In this time of waiting and anticipation, prepare your heart by spending time with God each day of Advent. The Little Book Book guides you through this season with short devotionals that will inspire you. This year's Advent book focuses on the Resurrection Narrative according to Matthew and begins November 30, 2024.Little Books of the Diocese of Saginaw is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging people to pray and spend some quiet time with the Lord during the liturgical seasons.
Conceived and developed by the late Bishop Ken Untener of the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan, the Little Black Book debuted in 1999 as a Lenten reflection and quickly became a staple for individuals and congregations throughout the midwest. As demand grew, so too did Little Books, which now includes the Little Blue Book for the Advent/Christmas season and the Little White Book for the Easter season, along with titles for Stewardship and children, and other writings.
Each Little Book is faithfully written to correspond with seasonal themes and features daily scriptural-based lessons along with interesting facts about Catholic traditions, saints, notable people and symbolism.
Today millions of people rely on Little Books to enhance their prayer practice and provide spiritual inspiration. All proceeds from Little Books go toward serving the needs of the people and communities of the 11-county Diocese of Saginaw.
The Little Books from the Diocese of Saginaw provide a spiritual prayer supplement to the Holy liturgical seasons throughout the calendar. I have prayed with the Little Blue Book For a number of years. The daily reflections are unique and refreshing. The prayers and meditations follow the liturgical calendar, providing a spiritual aid during Advent and Christmas.
What would advent be without this little book handed out at Mass each year? I look forward to each evening spent in prayer with this little book and a cup of tea.
“The Little Blue Book: Advent and Christmas Seasons 2024-2025 Reflections on the Infancy Narratives of St. Mathew” is a book based on the writings of Catholic Bishop Kenneth Untener. The book was also written/edited by Erin Looby Carlson, and illustrated by MaryBeth O’Connor with editorial support by Jenny Cromie. “The Little Blue Book” was published in 2024 by the Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan. This book is based on the 43 days of the Advent and Christmas seasons from December 1, 2024 thru January 12, 2025. The writings about each day references Saints and the day’s celebration events. These references are interpreted in the context of scriptural writings of Saint Mathew. It is a book of reflections based on spiritual passages, feast day celebrations, and suggestions that stimulate personal reflections. “The Little Blue Book” is well written, full of wonderful historic references, and very thought provoking. Bishop Kenneth Edward Untener served as Catholic Bishop of Saginaw, Michigan from 1980 to his death in 2004. (P)
Finally finished this daily guide to reflections, oh, only three weeks late. :D
What does it say about my faith that I found the peeks into history and biographical tidbits about Christian figures and events a tad more interesting than the discussion about Bible verses? :(
Maybe I just need to take more time to be introspective, and perhaps delve into how the parts that I enjoyed more can serve as inspiration.
