Rate this book
When secrets are buried, bodies are next.

When a man from Dieter Bergheim’s past shows up demanding payback for a decades-old betrayal, Dieter refuses to budge. Days later, a break-in at his brother’s ranch leaves one man dead and a stash of cash exposed. And Noble County deputy Adam Cash is called in to investigate.

A combat veteran with his own ghosts to silence, Cash uncovers a pile of a mysterious hole in a workshop floor, a murder weapon with no clear owner, $1.4 million gone missing, and a suspect list longer than a Texas highway. With the past clawing its way into the present and the body count rising, Cash must track a killer who’s getting bolder by the day.

But when the murderer breaks into his home, Cash has to face the truth—he might not be chasing the killer. He might be the next target.

A buried past. A stolen fortune. A relentless deputy. And a killer who’s getting too close.

Murder Creek is the third gripping installment in the Adam Cash Mystery Series, perfect for fans of Craig Johnson, C.J. Box, and gritty small-town thrillers with big stakes.

Award-winning Texas author Jeff Kerr delivers his most personal and high-stakes novel yet—packed with authentic characters, razor-sharp twists, and the spirit of the modern West.

The cover was lacking for me. Not as impactful as the first two.

Well, I’m here to tell ya, this is one of the only series that kept my attention. Yes, I’m ready for number four. Mr. Kerr’s ability to weave a great plot is most evident.

Once again, Adam Cash is thrown into an investigation that is going to keep attention from the beginning to the end. And what’s even more fascinating, is just when you think you know what’s going one, you’re wrong and I mean wrong!

There’s been a robbery and shooting at Emile Bergheim’s place, the man Cash helped build fences before he joined the Pinyon police force. His brother, Deiter has been placed in a very nice assisted living home that isn’t cheap and Emile worries about paying the bill since over 1.5 million in cash was stolen. Cash is confused why anyone would have hat much cash lying around till Emile tells him, Deiter didn’t trust banks.

What Adam uncovers as he investigates the theft is unbelievable! You will travel to Austin on multiple occasions chasing down leads and visiting Adams’ parents, because it’s the right thing to do and back to Pinyon. As the pieces come together, he’s also trying to get his personal life in order with Edie. He screwed up ten years ago with her and doesn’t want history repeating itself.

At about the seventy percent mark, you’re going to wondering why the story is continuing since the character Hooch has been killed. I sure did. Well, let’s just say, there’s more than one Hooch in this tale and it shocked me. I did wonder at one time if one of the brothers might have a role in the theft. I will let the reader find out for themselves.

Even though there a few minor grammatical issues, eight, they do not interfere with this page turning, screen swiping thriller!

If you are looking for a great who dunnit set in a not so sleepy small town in Texas, this story is for you!

A glowing four and-a-half stars round up to five!

Adam Cash's life in Pinyon, Texas, is finally settling down. He has proven worthy of being a police deputy. Bernadette Fenster lets him visit their daughter, Emma. The idea of a committed relationship with Edie James seems less frightening. Cash even has time to embrace an old hobby. How will he react when a brutal attack endangers one of the first people who welcomed him back to Pinyon? Let’s pull on our boots, leap into Jeff Kerr’s new novel Murder Creek, and find out!

Story
Adam Cash’s family is growing. He has gained Sheriff Gabe Santos’ trust and sees him and his wife Katrina at social events. Cash may not be a match for Keisha Hodge on the basketball court, but he likes the whip-smart deputy. He gets along with Deke Conrad, even if the holdover from Sheriff Turner’s tenure prefers writing speeding tickets to solving crimes. But before he secured his dream job as a deputy, Emil Bergheim hired Cash to help with his fencing business. Cash found Emil an honest and fair employer. So, when a robbery and shooting puts Emil in the hospital, this shakes Cash up.

Cash is also having trouble on the home front. Things are going so well with Edie James that he bought a bed for Luke and gave her son a room for the nights she spends with him. Suddenly, Edie is talking about leaving the Firewheel Café and applying to nursing programs at distant universities. When he tries to talk her out of going, Cash pushes Edie away. Then there’s Bernadette. She has a new boyfriend, and Cash worries how the man’s growing relationship with her might affect their daughter, Emma. Finally, there is Reid. His younger brother’s burgeoning career in the music business encouraged Cash to pick up the guitar again. But when the trail of clues from a corpse on Emil’s property points toward The Whistling Armadillos' drummer, Reid accuses Cash of hounding a prized bandmate for no good reason.

Adam Cash has been on rocky ground with his parents since he returned to Pinyon after graduating from Sam Houston State. His parents envisioned a different career for their eldest son, and he learned something disturbing about their past. Many of the suspects live in Austin, where his parents currently reside. In Murder Creek, Cash loses time with Edie and his work family at the police station. While spending days away from the town he loves, Cash opts to spend his free time with his brother or casual acquaintances over his parents. And in Austin, Adam Cash takes advantage of all the restaurants he can’t enjoy in tiny, remote Pinyon.

Cash may be a good dancer, but he’ll need to mind his footwork if he wants to solve a murder, recover all the money the thieves stole from Emil, protect Bernadette from her worst instincts, mend his fracturing relationship with Edie and everyone else in his life without blowing up his life in Pinyon, Texas. But then, getting everything you want out of life can prove more difficult than mastering the Texas Two-Step.

Final Thoughts
When robbery and murder endanger a former employer, Cash risks everything he has built in Pinyon and endures familial difficulties with his parents and brother to protect a man battling the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s Disease in Jeff Kerr’s novel Murder Creek.

ADAM CASH SERIES: Source: The author.
MURDER CREEK - Starts about a month after SD ends. Interesting, entertaining story lines with good characters and dialog, set at a fast pace. A bit of romance and family. 5*

AMBUSH, prequel - A short but dramatic introduction to Blunt Force Trama. Set in Afghanistan. Having read BFT, it is not necessary to read this short. The only thing left out from this short is an event that proves how quick life can change in an instant. 4*

BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA - Another interesting and intriguing story complete with good characters, a mess of bad characters and interesting story lines. Some of the fight scenes aren't realistic but that doesn't stop the pace from flowing. After all, the story needs to continue to get to the good parts. 5*

SECOND DEATH - Another interesting story from Mr. Kerr, which picks up from where Blunt Force Trama ends. It's easy to dive off into this story but I cannot deprive a reader for discovering this book the way I did, without any spoilers, or a clue actually. It's not necessary, but best thing is to read BFT since these stories build on a foundation. Good characters, even the baddies are well done, good storylines, and plenty of intrigue throughout set at a good pace. 5*
ADAM CASH SERIES END.

MIRANDA FLORES:
Refuge - Please realize this is a work of fiction, created by the author, which does not mean these events are not possible. An intriguing, suspense filled story about the USA falling victim to racism that reaches the presidency and laws are formed to evict or kill any one not of American birth. Of course, this is against non-European and Native Americans, whites are kosher. I found the racism extreme until I realized it was not present times but during a presidency that allows racism to run amuck and even murder is not a problem. The prequels are an interesting place to begin, and personally, they should have been the starting chapters. Well written with a variety of characters but too much vulgar language for me concerning some of the characters. 4*

FIRST CASE, prequel - Interesting introduction to Jodie, her friends and their histories, plus Jodie solving the murder of a close childhood friend. 4*

MIRANDA FLORES - A character sketch of Miranda, partially used to give her more substance in The Refuge.

INTO THE FIRE, prequel - The story of Miranda and her family's journey from El Salvador to New Mexico and back to El Salvador and Miranda's return journey to NM. 4*

DEATH TRAIN, prequel - Miranda's journey from El Salvador to Mexico City with her final destination, New Mexico. 4*

END OF THE LINE, prequel - Interesting introduction to Miranda, her family and their journeys between New Mexico and San Salvador. 4*
MIRANDA FLORES END.

There is a lot to like in Jeffrey Kerr’s Murder Creek.

The story is loaded with intriguing characters, led by Adam Cash, who is a deputy sheriff in the fictional county of Noble Texas. He is put in charge of finding out who perpetrated a million-dollar robbery and committed four murders.

While Cash investigates these crimes, a second plot line develops around the woman of his dreams, Edie. Cash is articulate with other people, but with Edie, he keeps saying the wrong things over and over. The reader hopes this romance will succeed, but it is so rocky that we don’t learn until the end whether it does. In addition to solving the crimes while keeping his romance with Edie from self-destructing, Cash also must protect a young daughter from a previous relationship.

In pursuit of one of his suspects, Cash plays guitar for a few gigs with his brother’s band. He plays numerous pieces of music, such as “Folsom Prison Blues,” that will prove satisfying to any reader who is a fan of country-western music.

These intersecting story lines lead to several plot twists that keep surprising the reader until the end as Cash and his sidekick Deputy Sheriff Hodges track their suspects across the landscape of Texas. In the process, the author gives us substantial local color for small town Texas, the topography, the culture, and the people.

In sum, if you’re in the mood for a fast-paced murder mystery with plenty of twists and thrills, Murder Creek is the book to read.

Murder Creek is the third book in the Adam Cash mystery/thriller series. I would like to say that this installment is the best yet, but I can’t honestly say that because they’re all action-packed, adrenaline-fueled, rollercoaster thrill rides, each in its own unique way. These stories actually build upon one another, but they can also be read in any order as standalone thrillers and fully enjoyed. Jeff Kerr is the master of red herrings and unexpected, twisted endings, and no ending more twisted and unexpected than the way Murder Creek ends, an ending that left me saying, “Wow! I never saw that coming.”

The Adam Cash books have something for every reader. There's enough violence to satisfy the diehard adrenaline jockeys like me, and enough romance and personal intrigue for the diehard romantics, but everything works together as a unified whole. Kerr has created a cast of characters so realistic, so lifelike, that the temporary suspension of disbelief is never an issue for the reader. Anyone who has ever walked the walk will see people they have known in real life in Kerr’s characters, at least I can.

Personally, the Adam Cash series is the best new series I have read in a long time, and has earned a place among the top five on my favorites shelf.

Jeff Kerr is an excellent storyteller. His Adam Cash series and the free prequels are all good, but I found this latest Cash take to stand out from the others.

Cash is becoming a better detective though he does still make some rookie mistakes in the novel. Also present in the Murder Creek are Deputies Hodge, Conrad, Frida Simmons, and of course sheriff Santos whom Cash knew from the military.

In this story some money was stolen and one of the perpetrators was shot and killed. With almost nothing to go on in the way of clues, Cash makes a number of false starts before finally figuring out what happened. Of course it could be argued that his false starts, taken together with all he learned from them, are what enabled him to solve the crimes.

There was not simply the death of one of the thieves, but several more deaths throughout the book as well as some well placed twists and turns that kept the story moving forward.

I highly recommend this book. I've read several of author Kerr's and I find this one very near the to of the list. Five more stars for Jeff Kerr and Adam Cash.

Dive into this convoluted murder mystery where there are many suspects to wade through but very little proof! As the bodies begin to pile up, Cash, now a newly minted deputy sheriff is learning the ropes and has his hands full with solving the crime.

Join him as he navigates the complications in his personal life while trying to decipher who is telling the truth and who is lying. Set in a small town in Texas, you can feel the heat, both literally and metaphorically, as the hunt for the murderer intensifies, but nothing is as it seems and Cash soon finds himself in the crosshairs.

It's nice to have a main character who is vulnerable, makes mistakes, and is big enough to own up to them. Each of the characters are well developed and relatable which makes them even more engagaing.

A fast paced murder mystery, with a twisty plot and plenty to keep you guessing. Third book in the series but can be read as a standalone.

Third in the thrilling Adam Cash series. Not sure how Jeff Kerr manages to keep up the momentum but Murder Creek was just as exciting and nailbiting as the first two in the series. Adam Cash is a gold mine of a character and the supporting characters just add flavour to the pot. Some giving a solid base and others adding that spicey bite to the roux. Fabulous writing, fabulous tales. Derserving of more than 5 STARS. If this is your genre, then don't miss out.
I received a free copy of this book and am leaving my voluntary opinion of the tale.

A Very Interesting Book

This was an interesting book to read. The characters are all good and easy to relate to. I grew up in a small rural town in Texas and it seemed like I knew some of the characters. Cash’s mouth keeps him in trouble with Edie all the way through the book. This makes for good laughs. The author does a good job of keeping the murder hidden in plain sight and the mystery of who planned the robbery and for what reason. All of Jeff Kerr’s books about Cash are interesting and fun read. Read and enjoy.

Adam Cash is back in another nail biting, action packed story that kept me turning the pages. The characters are relatable and believable. The plot is realistic and the red herrings made me second guess everything I thought. The ending surprised me. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy action packed stories. I received an advance copy of this book via the author and this is my honest review.

The third in the series and best Adam Cash story to date. A robbery occurs and over $1m goes missing, but who is behind the heist? A fast-paced multiple murder mystery with intersecting story lines that lead to plot twists. Who are the people causing confusion for the Deputies? Eventually everything falls into place with the final subterfuge! An interesting & well plotted read. Recommend. (Can be read as a standalone)

Murder Creek (The Adam Cash series Book 3), my second read from authorJeff Kerr. An enjoyable well-written, murder mystery, the third in the series. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. The second book in the series is Second Death (The Adam Cash series Book 2) which I'll have to read after reading this book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

4* A well written thriller with a great plot.

Murder Creek continues shortly after the end of Second Death.

Two murders occur shortly after a shooting and robbery. Adam Cash, the newly appointed deputy sheriff of Noble County, Texas, is convinced they're connected. With few clues to connect the three crimes, Adam is working long hours to identify the murderer. Possible culprits are named and cleared, with red herrings to confuse the reader.

The third book in the series, may be read in or out of order.

Recommended.

I enjoyed this book, and I’d have to say that the characters are the jewels of the story, ranging from younger to elderly , not sugarcoated but with all their foibles. Adam Cash, the main protagonist weaves through this plot interacting with the good and bad. An interesting story with a few unexpected twists, very hard to put down.

I love small towns! Did I say that before? Everybody knows everybody or knows someone who does. Adam Cash meets more of those people, and starts to make connections to maybe solve his latest murder. Is his little brother involved? Or someone in his band? Is his baby mamma involved? And really, who is Hooch? Hey, Cash! Look more into the old guys! It's a rollicking story - just read it!

Fascinating read

I loved all the characters. At first there were so many it was hard to keep them straight. Turned out to be a lot of people involved who made bad decisions by the pushing of one very bad manipulating individual. In the end justice still wins. You'll enjoy the story.

Murders over buried treasure. There are too many suspects and Adam has to figure out how to eliminate some and get more evidence to further incriminate the guilty. But who is who? A well written story with a lot of great characters. As with Jeff Kerr's other books, I can highly recommend this one!

The three star rating is because of the confusion with the names and the fact that a better solution could have been made with the money.
