I guess kids really haven't changed much since the Middle Ages. In this medieval twist on the traditional bedtime routine, a young knight denies fatigue, demands more jousting, and flees the castle when it is time for bed, chased by a patient caretaker who keeps insisting that it is, in fact, bed time. Finally, after several goblets of water and being tucked in with Teddy Beast, the young knight settles down to sleep. Kids will enjoy finding new-but-familiar elements of the story, and parents will appreciate the sweetness of the ending as the young knight (and hopefully the reader) drifts off to dreamland.
I love this fun twist on a bedtime story. The castle and kingdom are winding down, but the Little Knight has no plans to go to bed. Parents will relate to the parent’s struggle. It’s a fun surprise at the end when we finally say Good Night! I love the classic techniques to stay up water and more books to read. They are written in a perfect way for the setting. The illustrations are cute throughout. (I read a review copy of this book)
Yet another piece of evidence that all the best bedtime books (in my humble opinion) revolve around knights and/or dragons. This delightfully illustrated book follows a knight desperately trying to get her little one to go to bed. The rhyming text is so rich and I loved how the kid constantly refused to follow the scheme, adding little interjections that mirrored their refusal to go to sleep. I will definitely be reading this for my next Bedtime storytime.
This book has a very cute art style and is super relatable for anyone with bedtime struggles. The rhymes flow nicely, and I love the unexpected twist at the end, because girls can totally be knights too! It won’t be a repeat for us, because after a couple of reads, my girls started to learn some not-so-great strategies to protest bedtime that they hadn’t come up with on their own prior to reading this book- smh.
THIS is an absolute delightful read! I mean there's the medieval setting, a dragon, a little knight who refuses to accept that it is time for bed. The engaging illustrations lend perfectly to the fun rhyming text as our little knight pulls out all of the typical nighttime stall tactics. Kids, parents, and teachers will enjoy this read.
A playful, medieval twist on the traditional bedtime theme. This young knight does not want to go to sleep! Filled with perfect rhythm and rhyme as well as jousting, chainmail, and dragons, this is a story we will read over and over again!
Review by a six year old: "The pictures were funny but I did not like that I did not understand so many of the words, about one or two per page. We had to keep stopping the story to explain the new words."
I adore this absolutely clever picture book! The humor will tickle kids and their adults alike with the all-too-familiar bedtime struggle, all with a cheeky knight-centered setting. Such a fun and entertaining read!
