Ex detective Emily is approached by her ex partner who arrested her when he gets a bad feeling about a case he just got. A major soccer star is found dead on a beach and it’s ruled suicide. He and Emily soon find other evidence that seems to support murder. Emily and her friend Mike soon uncover a conspiracy. Don’t want to spoil this but let me say you will NOT be disappointed ! Literally non stop action, murder, mystery and intrigue along with a great cast of characters and a superb storyline will keep you on the edge of your seat !

I enjoy reading the Emily Tizzano series and Deadly Verdict although it gives the culprit from the title, has a good plot, enables Emily and Lou to make amends to their friendship, proves that Mike is "the best", and that corruption and greed might permeate all levels of society.

Deadly judgment

This is another great addition to the Emily Tizzano series! The case was intriguing and I really loved how we got perspectives from the investigators and the other side of the coin. This book felt a bit more plodding more police procedural. It’s very methodical right up until it’s not and then it moves fast and furious. I was fascinated by the case and how the teeniest details set off a chain of events that lead to murder and a bit of mayhem. A very enjoyable read!.

More than 5 stars are needed here!

This is a story about power, corruption and consequences. When a celebrated soccer player is found dead on the shore of Lake Michigan, Chicago PD Detective Lou Gonzalez is called in to investigate. Lou is a seasoned detective currently partnered with Detective Courtney Green, a relative newbie to the Homicide Division. While Courtney is quick to call the case a suicide and be done with it, Lou is not so sure. He’s been on the job long enough to trust his gut and his gut is telling him there is much more going on here than meets the eye. Hoping for an unbiased take on the situation, he contacts his former partner, Emily Tizzano. They have a bit of a rocky past, but Lou hopes Emily can overlook that and be willing to help him uncover the truth behind what happened to the soccer star. While Emily is less than thrilled to be consulted on this case given her history with the Chicago PD, she has to admit that Lou’s instincts should not be ignored if justice is to be served. What unfolds as a result of their investigation will rock the state of Illinois. Cover-ups, corruption and multiple murders lead our intrepid duo to the doors of some of the most elite and politically powerful individuals in the state. Not surprisingly, those privileged folks do not want the truth to come out. What follows is a highly dangerous game of cat and mouse that will have you reaching for your blood pressure pills. KJ Kalis never fails to deliver high octane-thrillers that are so realistic they leave you with a lingering doubt about whether or not they have some basis in actual events. I certainly hope that is not the case, but then again, you know what they say about absolute power…

Emily Tizzano is a no nonsense take no prisoners kind of person. She was railroaded out of the Chicago Police Department and now works as a private detective. She reluctantly agrees to help out her former partner on a case that has a lot of questions about it.
This author is excellent at spinning mysteries that leave you guessing. She keeps the action tight and doesn’t inflate her work with a lot of excessive wordage. I look forward to more from this author.

Fascinating read

The world of politics. I've been told it is a nasty, dirty and corrupt place to be. This story surely points in that direction. Although it is purely fiction it could also be reality.

Detective's unease with police politics leads to serial killer - 4.5 stars

This story is exciting and quick. An ex-Chicago PD brings her talents to a not quite suicide. After an elite soccer player is found dead on the shores of Lake Michigan, the few available facts do not support the notion of suicide. But the police brass wanted the case closed fast. Writing it off as suicide was easy It has been done before.

Lou Gonzalez' ex-partner Emily Tizzano has the skills and a friend with tech talent. As police business becomes computerized, the world of hackers has ample opportunity for gathering information behind weak digital barriers. Once closed off because paper records were hard to vier, the new all-digital storage is easy for knowledgeable software experts to view data at will. Snooping into police files is illegal but difficult to prevent.

Up against a serial killer who was a digital wizard, the scales of justice were pushed by heavy fingers on both sides of the law, good and bad. It still takes interviewing skills and following leads to even realize that there has been a pattern of a serial killings in the Windy City. Past grievances up the ante. When a smart killer meets a smart investigator, a long history of apparent suicides is uncovered. The unhinged killer gets sloppy and increasingly dangerous.

In retrospect, the reader may realize that clues were dropped throughout the story. Until nearly the end, the reader, much less the Chicago Police, has no cause to suspect the unlikely killer. Detective Tizzano's relentless investigation latches onto the killer's depravity. She is relentless, muscular, merciless and on target.

I received an ARC through "Booksprout" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with Lou, Emily's former partner, being called in the early morning to the discovery of a dead body. Upon arriving at the scene, Lou examines looks over what appears at first to be a suicide. Lou's current partner, Courtney, appears and immediate decides it is a suicide and then leaves. After the ME arrives, the body is found to be the face of the local soccer team. After the ME leaves, Lou looks around for evidence. Lou leaves the scene and feels there is something definitely wrong.

Lou eventually calls Emily asking for help. Emily is hesitant at first but in the end decides to assist in the background. Mike, Emily's tech guy, begins looking into data relating to the area where the body was found. His discovery brings to light 3 more similar cases to Lou's current one. Emily goes to interview the families. Unknown to Emily, there is someone working behind the scenes to stop her.

Emily learns from someone she met on the beach about an individual that was probably behind them. She also discovers after a video is released and Mike proves it a fake, who the next target is and goes to warn him.

To discover who is behind the killing, who the other cases Mike found, who Emily talked to on the beach and how it all worked out in the end, then you need to read this book.

Once you begin this book, you can't put it down. You are hooked and turn page after page until the ending! It starts off with Detective Lou Gonzalez is called into a case with his partner, Detective Courtney Green, new to the Homicide Division. The deceased is Ander Sabate, a major soccer star. As Lou and Courtney look at the scene, Courtney is quick to call it a suicide. But Lou is not so sure. Something is not right and he calls on his former partner, ex-detective, Emily for help. Since he had her arrested and she was thrown out of the force, she was loathe to help. But finally convinced to help, evidence if found to show it really was a murder. So Emily with her friend, Mike, they uncover a major conspiracy that goes to the top and it now becomes very dangerous when there are those that want the case closed and secrets kept secret. This is a page turner and you just can't put it down once you start it! I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what will be next. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Emily gets a call from her former partner Lou. She had not talked to him since he had put the handcuffs on her. She felt betrayed and at first was not willing to help him. He told her about his new partner and the suicide of a pro soccer player Ander Sabate. Lou felt it was getting pushed aside and covered up and he was not able to investigate it properly.

Emily felt that Lou had good instincts and that something was going on. She knew about corruption in the department from her arrest. She starts to dig into the case and she is convinced there is more to it.

This is a very good book and there are twist and turns that make you want to keep reading all the way to the end. This is a stand alone book and once you read it you will want to read others by this author.

A body on a Lake Michigan beach - unfortunately not a one time occurrence. But for Detective Lou Gonzalez, there was something ‘fishy’ about this death. The fact that his young partner immediately labeled it as suicide, made him even more uncomfortable. Was he right to be concerned? You’ll have to read on in this fantastic story that will keep you guessing all the way to the end.

Emily Tizzano, former CPD detective does not want to help Lou, but gets drawn in anyway. There are other suspicious deaths - are they being covered up? Judge James Conklin has the Governor seat in his sights. To what length will he go to achieve that dream? Plenty of questions and action are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

An early copy of this Detective Emily Tizzano Thriller was received through BDM, LLC and BookSprout. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

Emily Tizzano, former Chicago Detective once arrested by her partner Lou before being exonerated. Now he asks for her help. Can she get past his having put her in cuffs? She hasn't had a case in a few months and gets drawn in. The body of a soccer superstar is found on the beach of Lake Michigan and everyone seems to want it to be suicide before the ME has even made her findings.

As she delves into the case, it seems that particular park along the beach is a magnet for more than is normal of killings, suicides, OD's etc. Someone wants this case closed from the Chief of Police down along with Lou's new partner but is the pressure from someone even higher up the chain and how many deaths are linked to this one.

Fast paced, good storyline -a solid 3.75.

Deadly Verdict by KJ Kalis
Detective Emily Tizzano Vigilante Justice Thriller Book Seven
Emily Tizzano gets a call from her ex-partner from Chicago PD, Lou. He wants her help with a case, but this is the same guy who publicly put handcuffs on her all those years ago when she was falsely accused. And yet, she gives in.
A high-profile case of a man found dead on one of Lake Michigan’s beaches. Lou’s new partner—whom he never wanted—proclaims it a suicide and seems to ignore the job of digging for evidence. Something’s not right.
As always, KJ’s books pull me in and don’t let go until the final page.

In the new book of the Emily Tizziano series we see her working again with her ex partner Lou Gonzalez, the same one that put the handcuffs on her, is she making a mistake or is this going to lead to them reconciling? Is she putting herself in danger by helping Lou? Her past is catching up with her.
In this book a famous soccer player is found dead in the edge of Lake Michigan, did he committed suicide as Lou’s new partner decided or was he killed as Lou believe? And what is the relationship of his death with the greedy judge running for Governor of Illinois?
With lots of twists and turns and a high caliber story this book will keep you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Deadly Verdict by K.J. Kalis. A Detective Emily Tizzano Vigilante Justice Thriller. Book 7.

Another installment in this series about Emily Tizzano, who solves criminal cases and gets justice vigilante style for the victims. My suggestion would be to read this series in order even though each book can be read as a stand-alone book.
Emily is a complex person; her sense of what is right and wrong served her well in her job as a detective with a high clearance rate working for the Chicago Police Department, but corruption, jealousy and inept leadership caused her to be arrested for corruption and be dismissed from the police department. Her court case against the Police department which she won with her name cleared of any wrong doing is a daily reminder of why she does what she does now. Emily now operates in the gray area without back up and without a badge while doing her best to live with the moral compass of doing right by the victims and giving closure to their loved ones.
I really like this series and looking forward to see what is next for Emily as there were a couple of sub-plots left unanswered at the end of this book. A great read. 4 stars.

Emily is asked by her ex partner to help investigate a case that he is not quite sure is a suicide. She has a rocky past with the Chicago PD but she does trust his instincts and will help him in his search for the truth. If you like nonstop action then this one's for you. Plenty of action and mystery to keep you reading non stop until the end. Throw in a bit of corruption along with a great cast of characters and you have a fantastic read.

Detective Lou Gonzales has asked his former partner Emily Tezzano to help him out on a case. Emily is very leery to help because of their past situation that let to them not being partners and longer. With lots of thought, Emily has decided to help Lou. There seems to be a lot of suicides at a near by lake of people very unlikely to be suicidal. This is a great book with an amazing story behinds the deaths.

This is another one of those books that just requires the word...d*mn. Holy cow that was so good! I honestly was hoping it would end that way. 🤣🤣 Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I love Emily's character so much. She's been through a lot and keeps fighting for what's right. Even if it means bending the rules just a tad. I'm ready for more from her!.

The Verdict is my least favorite of the KJ Kalis series. When a professional soccar player is found dead on the beach along Lake Michigan the police are just too quick to determine the cause of death as a suicide. Thus, Detective Gonzales reaches out to Emily requesting that she take a look at the case.
Emily and Mike give the investigation their all and something continues to bother Emily.

A surprising turn of events leads to breakthrough in the case.

Another gripping story in the Emily Tizzano series. Emily is asked by her former partner in CPD to help him with a case where CPD appears to be covering things up and rushing to an incorrect verdict. Initially reluctant, Emily takes on her own investigation, aided by Mike, and the relentless pace of the action and the twists and turns in the story keep you gripped until the end. Excellent book.

A body turns up on the beach and the Chicago Police Dept hastily rule it a suicide but why would a major soccer star who has just signed a generous new contract want to end it all.

Emily's former partner has suspicions and calls on her to uncover the truth.

An entertaining murder mystery thriller. An intriguing plot that grips the reader and flows nicely to its satisfying conclusion.

Emily has to put her past relationship with Chicago PD and her old partner aside to help him investigate the truth behind a suspicious suicide. As the investigation continues more suspicious deaths are found as is more corruption within the PD. A good thriller that I enjoyed.
