When I was eighteen, I fell in love with Delaney Warner, the district attorney’s daughter. Someone I wasn’t supposed to have because I was from the wrong side of town.
Amazingly enough, she fell for me, too.
Our love was clandestine, hidden in the shadows. Just like the secrets between us.
One day, it exploded, ending in a catastrophe that shattered my world as I knew it. I was left in the dark, barely able to climb from the depths of my despair.
Fifteen years later, I’ve returned to Green Haven, seeking revenge on those who tried to destroy me.
With vengeance burning through my veins, I’ll take everything from them, just like they did me.
As secrets come to light, everything is turned upside down, leaving one nagging question—is Delaney my enemy… or the one I was destined to love?

Jennifer Rose lives in a small town in Pennsylvania with her best friend and husband, two dachshunds, and a rabbit. She loves frozen mocha coffees, fall/Halloween, and long walks in nature.
My first Jennifer Rose novel left me with a whirlwind of emotions. It's a gripping, angsty, and frustrating tale that tugged at my heartstrings and left me in tears by the end.
Zayne is the bad boy on the other side of the tracks who wants the forbidden rich girl. He's a possessive hothead who jumps to conclusions and loses the girl he loves. Delaney is a rich girl with a terrible secret, trying to protect those she cares about and losing the boy she loves.
My heart broke for Zayne and Delaney as the lies and misunderstandings grew incredibly. I was so frustrated as they withheld the truth and wasted so many years to be together. They lost so much before they finally found their way back to each other.
Ms. Rose does an incredible job of immersing this reader in the intense and raw emotions of the characters. However, I found the pacing too slow and repetitive at the beginning, a choice that tested my patience as I waited for them to get on with their lives. In the end, their reunion and forgiveness were worth waiting for, and their happily ever after was beautiful.
If you enjoy suspenseful tales of vengeance, forgiveness, and the power of first love, this book is a must-read.
Thank you to Ms. Rose for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Zayne and Delaney. The author does a great job developing the story and paints her scenes perfectly. She brings a poor bad boy/rich good girl romance, broken up by her father. Fifteen years later they meet again. This is a story of betrayal and lost love, revenge, misunderstandings, deeply felt emotions and finding forgiveness and love in the end. The story moves fluidly and is a fantastic read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
I love the world of the King Morine series!! I recommend reading Buried Secrets and Deceived before diving into Left in the Dark. The misunderstanding trope is heavy in this one but I freaking loved Delaney and Zayne’s story. Friends to enemies to lovers with a little heavy stalking mixed in. This was so well written, I couldn’t put it down. The emotional trauma 😭😭 but the way they found and got their happily ever after!
All my heart minx” “All my soul Z” are the most beautiful words that has come from friendship to becoming the soulmates that couldn’t not be apart from m&lice people that try but failed to keep Delaney and Zayne apart. This story broke my heart seeing the love that this two have was so beautiful and so heartbreaking to see how they both fought and at the end of their hard journey got their second chance to get that love back and to find their happy ever after.

Jennifer Rose’s newest novel Left in the Dark is an incredible experience to read. With twists and turns at every corner, you’ll find yourself incapable of putting this book down.
This is book 3 of the King Morine series. I recommend reading this book after you’ve read Deceived and Buried Secrets for continuity. There, you’ll meet our cast of supporting characters that makes the storyline pop. If you’ve read Devious Bastard you might see a familiar name make a cameo.
I could go on and on about how much I love the story of Zayne and Delaney (aka Zelaney). They feel so real, so incredibly unique, and filled with raw emotional energy. They stick to your soul in a way that makes you want to fully submerge yourself into their lives. You’ll become an active bystander as you watch their story unfold into something more beautiful than it was ever before.
Zayne and Delaney have a complicated relationship and history. He’s the poor bad boy and she’s the well off good girl. Zayne’s father would do anything to help him while Delaney’s father would do anything to hurt her. They couldn’t be more opposite but the love they share is vibrant and filled with skeletons. When Delaney is forced to end things with Zayne she cannot tell him what is going on. She was forced to break his heart by her abusive father and as a last resort, running away from the city that she had called home. 15 years later, both Delaney and Zayne find themselves back in town… which is perfect for Zayne is perfect for Zayne. After living in California, he’s out to seek revenge on those that hurt him and destroyed his father. Delaney is on his list for retaliation. As tragedy strikes Delaney, the carefully crafted facade starts to shatter. Zayne soon comes to realize that maybe… Delaney isn’t the person he thought she was when she broke his heart.
Left in the Dark is a wild ride. From betrayal, lost love, and a hot man in Michael Myers mask… you never know what (or who) is peaking into your window, watching your every move.

This book had me in an emotional chokehold from the beginning. We start with the MMC who comes from a hardworking family who falls in love with the FMC who comes from a privileged background. Their worlds won’t allow them to be together. The ups and downs broke my heart but that final moment made it all so perfect.
This book deserves more than just 5 stars, it’s perfectly written and the characters are believable.

Zayne and Delaney are the two people who should not be together but can not be apart until forced to be. Time is wasted upon lies until they renite and take a chance on each other.

Jennifer Rose wields words like a maestro conducting an emotional symphony. Her latest tale is as captivating as it is frustrating, pulling you into a whirlwind of raw emotion and high-stakes drama. At times, you’ll want to scream in sheer exasperation as senseless lies and misunderstandings drive an ever-widening wedge between our two main characters. At the heart of this tempest is Zayne, the archetypal bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, who falls hard for Delaney, the rich girl from a world of privilege. But Zayne’s hot temper and possessive streak cloud his judgment, ultimately costing him the love of his life. Fast forward fifteen years, and fate (or is it something darker?) has drawn both Zayne and Delaney back to where their story first began, though for very different reasons. Zayne, now fueled by a thirst for revenge, has Delaney squarely in his sights. Armed with a scary mask, Zayne keeps a very close eye on Delaney. What is it about a man in a mask that’s both deliciously spine-chilling yet undeniably seductive. As he edges closer to exacting his revenge, Zayne is forced to confront a painful truth: Is Delaney really the villain he’s built her up to be? This is where I thought story really hit its stride. Zayne’s conflicting emotions as he fought his feelings for Delaney and then discovering he may have been wrong all along. As secrets unfold and buried truths come to light, the story shifts from one of betrayal and heartbreak to a story brimming with emotional intensity, healing, and the chance for redemption, proving once again that sometimes second chances are worth fighting for. This is book 3 in the King Morine Series. This series has characters that overlap. I wouldn't say that is necessary to read the other books though. All of the books in this series are about a masked man who stalks the woman he desires. Each man and woman has gone through something traumatic.
This book is about Delaney Warner and Zaine Morine. A good bit of this book is spent developing the storyline and plot that happens when Zaine and Delaney are teenagers. I liked that instead of the book starting in the present and only being told in flashbacks. A lot happens when they were teenagers that eventually tear them apart. I really felt bad for both of them at that point.
Then the book moves forward 15 years to the present. Delaney and Zaine both go back to the corrupt town of Green Haven. Their reasons are not the same for going back. Zaine wants revenge and he will have it. Zaine just has to decide if Delaney is still his enemy or also a victim?
The book had plenty of spice and drama. I liked that Zaine called Delaney his little minx because Delaney was devious, independent, and defiant. Zaine could be romantic 🛻🌠but he could also be the stalker hiding under her bed. I hated that this couple spent so much time apart because of a total misunderstanding. Delaney really needed Zaine especially when they were teenagers and Zaine never knew. Zaine thought he was just a dirty little secret because he was poor. In turn, Delaney was the first person Zaine ever needed and trusted. Also, this is a good read for Halloween vibes because of the mask aspect.

It wasn't until I was nearly half way through this book that I realised I've read the first book in this series, Buried Secrets, and loved it. What can I say about this one, Left In The Dark? It is a dark, dark book with topics that you need to check for triggers such as assault, abuse and more. Yet, it is a steamy friends to lovers story from young adult to years later, with plenty of things unsaid for various reasons. One for you if you like your books a bit darker, heavier topics and a group of friends who will have your back no matter what.

I was a little hesitant with the trigger warnings but was pleasantly surprised! I was hooked from the very beginning. The back in forth between the past and present gave the perfect picture of how they came to be. This book was dark, twisted, passionate and I had a hard time putting it down. The suspense had me in the edge of my seat and there were several "no way" moments. I highly recommend if you like dark romance!

Once I started reading Left in the Dark, I didn't want to put it down. Zayne and Delaney have a past that didn't end well. The emotions this book pulled from me were intense. I didn't want them to lose those years together. Years later they meet again and will they get their second chance? Will they get to their HEA? I sure was cheering them on.

The beginning of this book is extremely slow for my usual taste and a bit repetitive. But oh boy does it pick up. I cried many times. I really love Zayne and Delaney. I just wish they would have been more open from the beginning.

Wow that's intense! It's spice and fire and debauchery from page one. I love the difference in their backgrounds. I love Zayne. He's just crazy enough. This was the first from Jennifer Rose but definitely will not be the last.
