Carolyn Keene is a writer pen name that was used by many different people- both men and women- over the years. The company that was the creator of the Nancy Drew series, the Stratemeyer Syndicate, hired a variety of writers. For Nancy Drew, the writers used the pseudonym Carolyn Keene to assure anonymity of the creator.

Edna and Harriet Stratemeyer inherited the company from their father Edward Stratemeyer. Edna contributed 10 plot outlines before passing the reins to her sister Harriet. It was Mildred Benson (aka: Mildred A. Wirt), who breathed such a feisty spirit into Nancy's character. Mildred wrote 23 of the original 30 Nancy Drew Mystery Stories®, including the first three. It was her characterization that helped make Nancy an instant hit. The Stratemeyer Syndicate's devotion to the series over the years under the reins of Harriet Stratemeyer Adams helped to keep the series alive and on store shelves for each succeeding generation of girls and boys. In 1959, Harriet, along with several writers, began a 25-year project to revise the earlier Carolyn Keene novels. The Nancy Drew books were condensed, racial stereotypes were removed, and the language was updated. In a few cases, outdated plots were completely rewritten.

Other writers of Nancy Drew volumes include Harriet herself, she wrote most of the series after Mildred quit writing for the Syndicate and in 1959 began a revision of the first 34 texts. The role of the writer of "Carolyn Keene" passed temporarily to Walter Karig who wrote three novels during the Great Depression. Also contributing to Nancy Drew's prolific existence were Leslie McFarlane, James Duncan Lawrence, Nancy Axelrod, Priscilla Doll, Charles Strong, Alma Sasse, Wilhelmina Rankin, George Waller Jr., and Margaret Scherf.

(only book #1). Oh my gosh! Aside from a plethora of names that were a little hard to keep track of, this was a thrilling read. Will definitely read again in a few years.

I'm having trouble with books on listing. Take for instance this book, why are they not showing the cover? This book is in about its 15th printing.

On Basilisk Station is the first book by David Weber introducing us to Honor Harrington. First the setting of the story. A small star Kingdom consisting of three planets and a separate star system that he hold as a protecterate. This separate system is called by their navy Basilisk Station. The story is approximatly 2,000 years in the future. The human race has settled an area within a 5,000 light year diamenter sphere with earth about the center.

Manticore the star kingdom is considered to be a fringe government on the edge of settled space. To the Kingdom which has existed for almost 600 years they are the shining light of civilization Honor Harrington is starship captain, with a treecat bond from Sphinx. Through a convoluction of event in the story she ends up in command of Basilish Station.

There she becomes the first Comander to take her position seriously and does the job that is call on to be done. She basically catches every body doing business as ususl with the fingers in the cookie jar.

Complaints pour into the naval headquarters from merchants and dipolmats.

Naval headquarts? Well the rub their hands and grin. They plotted and twerks the rules to ensure that she stays in command. This is the beginning of her rise not only in her naval position but in her "social" position. Now here I have a problem discussing. What do you call it when a person goes for a commonner to a memberof noblitiy and then continues to increase her position.

Let me say, this story is very good. The series which at this time consiste of 14 books is really good. So good in fact and so realistic that David Weber has let Erid Flint begin to write a split of of the story.

And why don't they have a cover to this? Amazon does!

A favorite read! Great intro to the Honorverse!

One of the best "strong" female lead characters ever. Honor is both smart and vulnerable. She's someone you can admire and empathize with.

Great universe and excellent depth of technology.

Next book is even better!
