Deke Sommers knows staying with his boyfriend is a bad idea. Michael enjoys ménages just a little too much and often tries to get Deke to share someone with him. Deke is not interested. He gives Michael permission to occasionally enjoy them on his own as long as he’s safe and honest about it. Unfortunately, that’s not enough for Michael, and he surprises Deke by inviting a couple of friends to his apartment to play with him.
Deke does the only thing he can…he flees. Calling up his life-long friend, Dirk, who is traveling with his vampire lover, Deke asks for help. Dirk tells him to meet him in Stone Ridge. There, Deke once again sees Luther Caldwell, a wolf shifter he met over lunch in Las Vegas months ago and hasn’t been able to get out of his mind since. Except, Luther is straight, or in the closet, isn’t he?
When Luther is neither shy nor reticent upon their meeting, claiming they are mates, can Deke trust another dominant male?
Much like Stormy Glenn, Charlie Richards infuses her stories with just enough intrigue and endearing romance to make it possible for to me overlook bad writing. Not great, but a pleasant way to pass the time if you're in the mood for some sappy m/m shifter fun. Be warned that Richards sucks at dirty talk. The sex scenes can be a little awkward at times.
We finally get Deke's story. He is Dirk's friend from Crashing the Comicon. I usually like this series but this book didn't leave an impression on me. I think the blurb about Deke's past may have put me off. It felt as though the blurb was really a prologue but that wasn't the case. The assault scene is not overly descriptive and violent so don't let that put you off. We get to revisit some of the pack favourites and a few surprise guests. There is no heavy sub-plot going on as the story stays focused on the MCs. Worth a read.
Warning, the blurb for this book is really off and misleading.
Mehhhh. Didn't care for Luther - he was an insensitive, wimpy, passive, cowardly, closeted-bi-sexual procrastinator and thus created so many problems that could have been avoid. It required ultimatums, multiple assaults, and a kidnapping, for Luther to pull his head out of his ass and finally claim and protect his mate Deke. The conflicts in this story were created and/or could have been prevented by Luther and just showed what a weak character he was. For me, it was too little too late. I need to like and admire the MCs and Luther just didn't cut it.
It was nice. Felt slightly more substantial than the more recent instalments of the series, so I am quite satisfied. In the end, of course the drama was predictable and the sex took precedence to mushy interaction, but that’s par for the course.
Happening a couple of months after Crashing the Comicon, it turns out that Deke's on-again-off-again boyfriend tried to force Deke and he ran. Deke ran all the way to Stone Ridge and the safety of his friend Dirk and the wolf pack there. It turns out he has also run towards Luther, the attractive wolf shifter who both made advances and ran away in Vegas. Learning what Deke went through Luther just wants to make it right and claim and comfort his mate. The two start a courtship dealing with family and all.
The biggest obstacle in this book felt a bit forced to me. Luther had been getting hit on by a pack mate, Synthia, who suddenly decided when Deke showed up that Luther was her boyfriend. Despite them never have been together and nothing but refusal from Luther, Synthia is all about 'their relationship'. It felt so ridiculous and illogical, just a wedge to drive, and the story could have done without it.
I've been waiting for Deke and Luther's book for a long time. I think I remembered Deke being more aggressive / flirty/etc. Not really sure of the word I want there. I didn't like that Luther ignored him for so long though. Does Luther take blame for what happened to Deke? Loved the squealing pig howl. HA!
Ya know to be honest I feel like the abused mate angle is a bit over played. And I'm not sure that this one was any better than the others I've read. The only aspect that made this book unique was that Lawrence has a teenage daughter that doesn't know he is bisexual. But other than that the book was pretty average. ..readable but not re-readable.
Nice revisit with old friends in this one. Deke was treated badly and definitely deserved his HEA with Luther. Yes it's simplistic that the mate pull over came Luther's doubts and Deke's trauma so easily but that's why I enjoy the series. No angst, fluffy Wolves, sweet, hot HEAs.
Luther new for months Deke was his mate but wasn't sure how his daughter would react. Deke was attacked and ran to his friend Dirk. Luther was there also and decisions were made.
Did not like the whole Lex and Deke flirtatious thing. It is annoying how Deke allows Lex to just grab his ass and lick him in public. It is so fucking awful, since Lex know that Luther is Deke's mate. I know Lex did it to poke at Luther and get him to act. I also know Luther is an ass. But it is in bad taste just to make someone jealous. It is bad writing and something that a high-schooler would do rather than centuries old vampires. IT is in bad taste.
