Based on one review, the FMC is a sports reporter, and the MMC is a hockey player who broke up with her on-air for another sports reporter. So maybe there's cheating??? I mean, he did end things because of OW, after all.
But, idk, I could be wrong. I guess I'll never know, since I won't read this. I'm only interested enough to put a reminder why this is not for me. 🤷♀️
Some reviews said that he regretted his actions and that his relationship with the OW only lasted for a few months. And after that, he tried to contact the FMC but wasn't successful.
Nevertheless, I really don't care. This is why second chance stories don't do it FOR ME.

This had potential but all the angsty parts happen off page. Plus I don’t forgive him for breaking up a year long relationship on live tv just so he can sleep With another hot reporter.
Great book, recommend it to everyone, it will keep you reading maybe longer than you intended. The h is a sports reporter on television. The H is a NHL star player. They have a long relationship, but then the H breaks up with her on live TV for another sports reporter. The h quits her job and gets another job far away. The H ends up regretting his actions and tries to make up with the h. She refuses all contract with him.The H then so regrets his actions that he develops anger issues on the ice and is continually fighting during the games resulting in the most time in the penalty box. He is sent down to the team’s minor league team to learn to control his anger issues. Before joining the team he takes a brief vacation and ends up being booked in the same hotel suite as the h. The h is unable to get a different room because the hotel is all booked up. The H is eventually able to make up with the h. They end up going their different ways after the vacation. The h decides to find another job and takes one unknowingly with the same team that the H is now playing on. The team is practicing when the h arrives. The H is impressing his teammates with his long distance shooting ability when he sees the h and accidentally sends the puck flying into the plexiglass around the rink and with such force it knocks her down. Due to the comment of a fellow player he gets into a fight. The coach finds out about their previous relationship and writes into his contract that if he gets into another relationship with the h he will be fired. At first the H stays away from the h, but the h forces him to soften their interactions and they return to their relationship in secret. All goes well for a time but then in a team building outing they are caught kissing by the coach. He kicks the H off the team. When the h finds out she goes to the coach and resigns also telling him it was all her fault. The coach doesn’t believe her but puts the H back on the team. When the H finds out that she has left he tries to find her but is unsuccessful. He does find the letter she left him. The H proceeds to try and make up with the h by sending her favorite flowers every day but she doesn’t respond. When the team starts their season they lose so many games that the coach realizes his mistake and asks the h to return. In the end she does and the team begins to win their games. The major league team is having a bad season and realizes that they need their star player back and contact him calling him back up to the team. In the end he decides to stay with the minor league team. The H and h get their HEA.
This is a closed-door, second-chance romance between Jesse, a sports reporter, and Jagger, an NHL player, who were once in a relationship until Jagger broke up with her on live TV. When he realizes she’s the one and an opportunity to win her back presents itself, Jagger seizes the moment, determined to charm his way back into Jesse’s heart.
I really enjoyed the sweet second-chance love story. It’s lighthearted and low on angst, which made it a refreshing read. The happily-ever-after was exactly what I was hoping for, and I loved how the author not only focused on Jesse and Jagger’s relationship but also on how they interacted with the people around them. Whether it was with coworkers, teammates, or family, these interactions helped paint a fuller picture of who they were as individuals, making the story richer.
The chemistry between Jesse and Jagger was palpable, and it was fun to follow them through their stolen moments together. On top of that, the vivid descriptions of Montana’s natural surroundings created a beautiful backdrop for their story.
The only part that didn’t quite work for me was the beginning. It was a bit hard to get into at first because some of the chance encounters felt forced, and I wasn’t sure if Jesse’s situation at the start was entirely necessary for the overall story. However, once I got past that, the rest of the book flowed well and was a pleasure to read.
Overall, this is a charming, lighthearted romance that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a feel-good story with a guaranteed happy ending. This was my first Kinley Raine book, and I’m excited to read more from her—especially if we get to see a future story featuring Talon and Willow!
Kinley delivers a book all about second chances, there are people worth fighting for, and while jobs come and go; true love outlives it all.
Jesse is a female sports reporter and is dating Jagger, our pro hockey player. While doing an on air interview, Jagger breaks up with Jesse. Humiliated, she leaves and cuts all contact off with him. After the relationship that Jagger broke up with Jesse for ends shortly after, he finds himself realizing what a mistake he made. As Jesse is not returning phone calls, Jagger spirals. He is getting into fights, spending a lot of time in the penalty box, and not playing how his team needs or expect him too.
Jesse, after some time away, comes back for an opportunity. She is thrown back into Jesse’s life by a wayward puck. She is careful around him and guards her heart. As he continues to show her how he has changed, she begins to soften. To their dismay, Jagger’s coach has put a clause into his contract that he can’t date her again. Secret relationship it is!
But even that doesn’t stay secret for long. When they are found out again, consequences are delivered, decisions are made with the other’s best interest at heart, and determining what is really important in life takes place. As these answers all come to a head, will Jesse and Jagger keep their relationship or will hearts be broken again?
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Uhhhhh…..wait….what???? So there’s a person in your room taking a shower that shouldn’t be there so instead of leaving, you lay down and….take a nap????!!!!! What??!! Then when you wake up and determine that person is no longer there, you don’t call the front desk to make sure the mix up has been cleared? You go take a swim cause that’s more important??? NO! Just NO! What did I just read??!!!!!!
OMG. Mabel killed me!! I love her! I laughed out loud and Jaggers description of meeting her in the hallway for the first time. I almost cried!
I stared laughing out loud again at Jaggers description of him under Jess’s desk and I snorted I laughed so hard!
I can’t believe Jess went and told Tina everything that has been going on with her and Jagger! I’m calling it right now that Tina will spill the beans to Coach somehow. I was wrong and I’m glad! Tina did not spill the beans.
So I obviously was writing my review in real time as I read through the book. I will tell you - READ THIS STORY!! Now! This story made me cry I was laughing so hard. It also made me so mad and I was yelling at JJ because they were being dumb! I will say the one thing that surprised me was how quickly the story moved on from the altar jilting. I really thought at some point the story would circle around to that because J would need to tell J about it but it never happened.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I’d give 10! 100!
This was my first book by this author, and I am so glad I took a chance. This book was impressive. You do not have to be a hockey fan to appreciate this book. Yes, there is a lot about hockey, but it is about so much more. There were many great scenes in this book. I’m not sure if the jellyfish or the mountain goat scene is my favorite, they were both so funny. I liked how the book focused on the personality of the team as a whole, as well as the individual characters. There were a lot of supporting characters, and I enjoyed getting to know all of them.
If you have never been to Montana or the Glacier National Park area, this book may motivate you to put it on your bucket list. It was the perfect location for the story and the descriptions of the area were spot on.
Raine has written a delightful story about a love lost, never forgotten, and found again. Love drips off the page. Raine also has a way of describing the MCs emotions that in turn evokes emotions in readers. The book was well-written, so readers know how much chemistry the MCs have without written steamy scenes. I recommend this book for readers that enjoy sweet romance stories that include small towns, nature, and plenty of humor. Take a chance on this book. It is worth it.
I love this book! It was a quick read and entertaining throughout! How does it feel to be dumped on live TV by pro hockey player Jagger West for “Lottie the Hottie”? Sports reporter, Jess Lockwood can tell you because it happened to her! Jess thought that she and Jagger were meant to be, and that he had been “tamed”, but it wasn’t so. She transferred to Chicago, from Miami, and was engaged to Tobey, another pro hockey player. It’s now four years later and Jess has left Tobey at the altar. She decides to go to Jamaica and guess whose room she has been double booked into? None other than Jagger! He is there on a break because he is being shipped to the minor leagues in Montana. They manage their time in Jamaica, but she won’t get back together with him. She ends up in Montana, but they can’t date due to his contract. Will they ever get their happily ever after? You must read this book to find out! There is plenty of humor, including many of the secondary characters such as octogenarians Mabel and Gus, and Jagger’s teammate Dax (aka Lightning)!. There is a hilarious incident involving Jagger and a mountain goat, as well as a show with Dax taking off his shirt in the arena. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and my review is my own voluntary opinion.
a sweet small town, second chance, Hockey romcom with no cliffhanger. Some of the lines I really like ---- “Jellyfish. Why does something so cool looking have such a nasty sting," ---- What is that thing people always say about unfogiveness? Something like, it’s the baggage you carry while expecting someone else to feel the weight... ---- “Lots of testosterone around this place. We need all the estrogen we can get.” ---- You take what comes and try to handle it with as much grace as you can. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?” ---- a classic truth: a team that clicks and works together can outplay even the most skilled and experienced opponents. ---- Chocolate is life.” ---- “Chill out? Who do you think is going to get eaten first? Ill tell you who. The slowest guy, that’s who. And that’s me. I’m also like two meals for a bear, let’s be honest.” ------ What is Mabel up to? What's with the Coach's special rule in the contract? These and other questions will all be answered. I loved Jess and Jagger's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and can't wait to read her next book.
Kinley Raine’s Second Chance on Ice is a beautifully woven tale of love, resilience, and the magic of second chances. Set against the picturesque backdrop of a winter wonderland, this romance is both enchanting and emotionally profound.
The protagonists, a former ice skating champion and a dedicated coach, share a past filled with both triumphs and heartbreaks. Raine deftly explores their journey as they reunite to rebuild their lives and rediscover their love for each other. The icy setting serves as a metaphor for their initially frozen relationship, which gradually melts as they confront their past and embrace their future together.
Raine’s writing is lyrical and evocative, painting vivid scenes that immerse readers in the chilly yet beautiful environment. The character development is exceptional, with each protagonist showing growth and vulnerability that make their rekindled romance all the more touching.
Second Chance on Ice is a must-read for fans of sports romance and stories about finding love when least expected. Kinley Raine delivers a heartfelt and inspiring narrative that celebrates the enduring power of love and the beauty of new beginnings.
This is a first book for me from this author. I really enjoyed the book. The emotions presented themselves throughout.
Jessica is a sports anchor that is originally from Miami and transferred to Chicago after a television breakup. Jagger is a NHL player, that performed said breakup.
Jessica tried to move on from Jagger and was on the way down the aisle when she bolted due to her feelings for Jagger. The lady Jagger brokeup with Jessica for only lasted a couple of months. Now he regrets ever letting Jessica go. They run into each other in Jamaica and they don't really now how to react to each other. Jagger wants a 2nd chance and Jessica is to scared to follow her heart.
Will they be able to love each other again? Will Jessica get over her hurt from Jagger? Will Jagger get to go back to the big league? Let's finish reading to find out!

This is the first book I've read by Kinley, but it certainly won't be my last. This is a closed-door, swoony kisses, Second chance, forced proximity, one bed, runaway bride, sports reporter/social media, hockey player, forbidden romance, and lots of sunflowers. Look up the type of sunflower she loves; it's real and beautiful. It was entertaining to watch them figure out how to forgive/be forgiven, find their way back to each other, and fall in love. The desk scene, as did many other scenes, made me laugh so hard. Mabel and her new beau were fun side characters. I'm definitely hoping this turns into a series so we can get to know the side characters of this one's stories.
4.5 stars! What a lighthearted and humorous contemporary, closed door romance that is chock-full of funny scenarios, dialogue and witty characters. Jagger, a major league hockey player moved down to the minor leagues, is adorably persistent to get the love of his life back. When he has a second chance to do so, he’s going all in. Jess, a reporter/media manager wishes to move on from some past decisions but it is her past that keeps coming around. The enemies-to-lovers story is told with a dual, first person POV and is very immersive with their internal thoughts. Thanks to the author for gifting me an ebook!
After Jagger, dumped Jess on TV, both are living their own lives, trying to get over from each other. Jess, was about to get married but realised that she is still on Love with Jagger abd goes on a holiday, not knowing whom she will meet.
Jagger, struggling after breaking up with Jess, realising making his biggest mistake, leaving his Coach no other choice to sent him to the minors to learn to control his anger, but how can he, if he needs to work with the one person he loves.
Not everyone gets a second chance in their lives, but will Jess and Jagger, take that second chance?
Thank you for being patience with me to read your book.
Jess Elope from church when she was going to marry, she realized that she didn’t love him so she went away. Four years back she was with a guy he was a hockey player he broke up with her while they were in live on television. She went to Jamaica to forget about her past and out of town, she went into the sand for a peaceful time there were a lot of jellyfish and one came at her feet when she was going back at the hotel a man asked her if she wanted that he peed on her feet until she recognized the voice, she couldn’t believe that he is the same man she couldn’t takes off her mind.
This book is amazing,I really appreciate reading it. It’s a clean and a good story. Highly recommend reading it.
Jess & Jagger, loved these two characters. Jagger and all star NHL player broke up with Jess on national TV & Jess has been trying to get over him ever since. When the two end up in Jamaica & then in Montana together, Jagger has his chance to get back the love he’s regretted losing, but can Jess forgive him? The side characters were also well written & had me wanting a sequel with their stories, especially Dax.
“She made me want to be a different man, to leave the old Jagger behind.” Jagger
Jess and Jagger were TOTALLY meant to be! I loved all the ways that they just kept getting thrown back together, and I absolutely ADORED Jagger's grand gestures. They were SO heart-warming!
I really enjoyed this read, and didn't want to put it down. It was fun, funny, passionate and intense.
Kinley Raine does it again with another fabulous story and the start of a what promises to be a really great series!.

This was a great book. It was mind blowing. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. These characters chemistry and physical attraction were sexual tension. Was it love at first sight as his reputation was being destroyed by his imagine of being the bad boy. The passion for hey had for one another was sweet and second chance at romance again with them. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones
If only we could get second changes on some of our less wise moments. Breaking up with Jess on air would qualify as one of those for Jagger. Leaving her groom at the altar was a wise decision by Jess, just not the best timing. Be prepared to laugh your way through this book, while Jagger and Jess are trying to get their ducks even in the same vicinity. I’m not sure any of us are ready for Mabel, Gus, or Dax, but they will make you laugh. I hope we will get to see the other members of the team find their happily ever after.
Alright, I’m going to be brutally honest. I didn’t even give this book a chance after reading the first chapter. What do you mean the MMC broke up with the FMC on LIVE TELEVISION just because he wanted to “see other people”, especially another anchor which he addressed as “hottie over at Channel 5”. Nope, immediate DNF. This books is probably a hit for someone else, but I just had an issue with their initial breakup. So nope, not for me.

This was a fast paced fun read! I knew from the start I would enjoy this book. Jagger and Jess were fun together and I enjoyed the side characters as well. Everyone needs a Dax in their life! I have now read two of Kinley’s books and they both have been so much fun! I appreciate her witty banter, plots, pacing, and writing style! Thank you Kinley for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!
After 14 years as a hockey scorekeeper (amateur leagues, thanks,) I thought I'd seen everything, but this book still impressed me. It was so much fun! It was even technically correct, except perhaps for the plexiglas scene, but even that could have happened under the right conditions. I could go on, but that might lead to spoilers, so read it for yourself. Even if you hate hockey, you'll like this book. It's that good!
Lovely read! It had me smiling towards the end. It also had me giggling in a couple of places. I really enjoy all of the characters in this book! They each have such a distinctive personality. Anyone who loves second chance romance with a hint of spice (think one step above first/sweet kiss) will enjoy this book! This is the first boom I have read by this author, and I look forward to reading more of her work!
I had not read anything written by Kinley Raine, but the reviews of other readers made me want to read this. They were not wrong! This story is funny (the jellyfish meeting, and the Dirty Dancing move - hilarious!), but the emotional moments sneak up on you and grab your heart. This book is a masterful blend of everything you want in a romance story. I give it a ten! I loved it.
I almost quit this story a few chapters in. By the end,I was glad I finished it. I have to say,it was a really nice, sweet read. I know a lot of readers of the sports romance books are really invested in those very steamy sex scenes, but, for this book,I didn't miss them. I really liked both the MMC and the MFC,their character development was good. Definitely an easy read.
This was soo cute!! I absolutely loved this second chance romance! He dumped her on live tv but they never forgot each other. He knew he made a mistake and he grew from it. I can’t wait for the next one in this series! Some of my favorite parts: the jellyfish, the flowers, the ankle kisses and Jamaica I received an ARC of this for my honest review.
Good story of love lost, found, lost, then found again. Tetesterone filled jock who is in lust, love, lost, and then lonely. Estrogen filled writer who is cast aside and can't catch a break. Hockey's fickle finger shoved in his eye, relocation at it's worst for both of them. Mmmmm, somethings got to give.
This is a charming second chance hockey romance. I enjoyed getting to know Jagger and Jess and the rest of the Hawks team. The characters are relatable, and the reader becomes invested in their futures. This is an easy story to read with good flow.
