Three exciting, self-contained stories that further explore these classic heroes and expand upon the continuity of Mad Cave's ongoing Gatchaman series!
Ken goes undercover to infiltrate an underground gambling ring where martial artists from around the globe fight to the death. There, the winners are captured and brought to a secret Galactor recruiting base. If they refuse to join, the captives are dropped in the jungle and hunted as prey for Galactor's training program. Can anyone make it out alive?
Meanwhile, an elite squad of motorcycle-riding death bikers have successfully hijacked an armored train transporting experimental International Science Organization tech. These thieves are fast and ruthless--they carry out their orders with razor-sharp efficiency. The only thing in their way is Jun the Swan and her G-3 hover-cycle mecha!
Lastly, Ryu finds himself on a high-seas oceanic adventure to defend his harbor and its citizens from an attacking group of scavenging pirates!
Collects Ken: Deathmatch, Jun: Apex Heart and Ryu: Scavengers

Call it nostalgia or bias but I love Gatchaman or G-Force as I knew them then. The artwork is amazing it is anime style and in colour. The stories are also very good. Then there is the action.
Ken thinks he is infiltrating an illegal fighting tournament, but what he has stumbled into is a recruiting ground for Galactor. He is alive and outnumbered. However, they are locked in with him.
A daring motorcycle gang have been pulling off a number of high-profile robberies. Jun notices something familiar about their riding style. Is she ready to go head to head with them.
Ryu is just the pilot of the group right? What happens when it is time for him to get physically involved?
Three great stories highlighting G1, G3 and G5. I hope the other two members also get the same treatment. I can't wait for what is next. The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.
There is a definite benefit to the fact that the Reserved pick up shelf in my library is right next to the graphic novel section. I keep finding things I didn't even know existed. Like this.
Battle of the Planets was one of my favourite cartoon shows as a kid.
So of course I picked this up, even though it's using the original Gatchaman version. Which did make me smile a few times when I was like "what do you mean they're called Ninja Science Force?" and "what do you mean Jun (Princess) is the older sister of Jinpei (Keyop)?" and "what do you mean they yell out BIRD to transform?". You know, fun stuff like that.
I am a little bit confused as to why, if this is all solo stories, there are only three characters represented. I mean, everyone shows up, but these are three stories centred around Ken (Mark), Jun and Ryu (Tiny) respectively.
It suffers from the same issue a lot of anthology comic books do. Different artists. I really wish Mindy Lee who did the Ken section had done all three, because her style suits the material the best.
Also, suddenly finding the Galactor (Spectra) faceless minions kind of sexy with their cat themed masks and long hair was... a surprise.
Of the three I didn't really care much for the Ryu story... it was a little too wacky, which is kind of odd, given that it's written by Steve Orlando. I would say that it's actually the worst written of the three. Also, I never much cared for Tiny in BotP, so that didn't help.
I do wonder if there is going to be another volume for Joe (Jason) and Jinpei (Keyop) though.
Three solo adventures featuring Ken, Jun and Ryu. Ken gets involved in an underground fight club. Jun goes after a motorcycle gang. While Ryu tackles one of Galactor's kaiju. They're all OK.
