Rate this book
Novella (20,000 words)
Genre(s): Contemporary Gay Romance Erotica

When Ben Knox discovers a clean-cut, blond, apparently-straight teenager named Kyle Roth in his office, looking for a professional Dominant, instinct draws him in. Since the exceedingly particular Kyle has already passed on fellow Dominants-for-hire, Gabriel and Trace, Ben digs down beneath first impressions to expose Kyle’s true motivations. Reassured by Ben’s straightforward approach, Kyle demonstrates his willingness to obey and, quickly, their contract is signed. But, skillful as Kyle is at masquerading as the person the world expects him to be out of self-preservation, Ben has plenty of experience dealing with bruised souls. Kyle’s bruises, though, go deep and the vulnerable darkness that Kyle tries to hide lures Ben in and takes them both farther than either is prepared to go. Lynn Kelling began writing in order to tell stories that aren’t afraid of the dark, don’t hold anything back and always strive to be memorable, forging lasting attachments between character and reader. Her inspiration comes from taking a closer look at behaviors and ideas lurking at the fringes of life—basically anything that people may hesitate to speak of in mixed company, but everyone wonders about anyway. Her work is driven by the taboo in order to expose the humanity within it. Lynn is an artist, designer and lover of any form of creative self-expression that comes from a place of honesty and emotion, whether it's body art or opera. She has had multiple novels published, has written over fifty works of erotic fiction of varying lengths, and always has several novels in progress.

Fantastic! I love Kyle and Ben, they're probably one of my favorite couples, and it was really great to read this story of how they met and got together. I especially loved how much was from Ben's POV, he's such an interesting character. It just makes me want to go back and reread Deliver Us again.

Goodness! Holy sexy hotness, make you wiggle in your skirt looking for relief. This was hot as Hades, and I'll probably read it a million more times.

I've been holding off on this one for reasons. My reasons have everything to do with the love/hate feelings I have for Kyle. He's a manipulative bastard, and he knows it. The problem is, so does everyone else, and it's taken a long time for Ben to get to a place where he can have better control over Kyle. Control that's really needed, and seriously, wanted.

I understand Kyle a lot more than before, but I was not sure I wanted to go back and see how he was when he and Ben first meet. I'm so glad I did. Despite all my conflicting feelings for Kyle, he's so young here. He really is still a kid, especially at heart. He needs to trust someone. Needs someone to take care if him, to love him. No matter how he goes about it, he needed it and in glad Ben is able to give it to him.

The scenes are spicy. Outside their scenes, they're beautiful and surprisingly tender, despite how growly Ben gets. Ben is learning Kyle, figuring him out. And in this short story, he's really just kind of going with the flow, being taken by surprise, adjusting the best way he can to the situation. Trying to give Kyle what he thinks he needs.

I absolutely loved this. Anyone else who has issues with Kyle? I'd bet you'd love it too. I have more compassion for him, that's for sure. I'm also hoping that Lynn will write more of these little pieces of history. I love all these guys so much. So, so much. And looking back into their lives, seeing where they come from, it really builds an understanding, and more love for them and where they are now.

I just love how Lynn Kelling can paint characters that are far from perfect, with a lot of problems, and still make you fall in love with them. Beautiful short story.
