I could never turn away a stray. So when a beast shows up in the dark of night, I not only let him into my life—I let him into my heart!
Harley
He’s different. He isn’t one of us; he isn’t one of them.
When one of the biggest houses on the lake is sold, word goes around. But instead of speculating what the new neighbors are like, I find out firsthand and am promptly hired as a swimming instructor.
What’s odd isn’t that my pupil seems to be a natural in the water. It’s that he sleepwalks. And not just around his property, but all the way around the lake—to find me!
I’m going away this fall. I’m finally able to make a career change and pursue my dreams of becoming a veterinarian. I can’t let a pair of storm-blue eyes stop me. Not even if my touch seems to be the only thing capable of soothing the beast inside.
But the secrets he’s keeping, the demons he’s hunting, they’re catching up to him. When they find him, they’ll destroy the fragile peace he’s found.
Silent Heart is part of the Vlasov Bratva, set in the Midwest Underworld series. It’s a stand-alone darker mafia romance, with no cheating, a guaranteed HEA, and no cliffhangers. A morally grey romance, this book may not be suitable for everyone.
His voice came out in a rough bass. Strained. Tormented. “Tell me to stop, Harley. Tell me to end this madness or else, so help me, I’m going all the way.” “Don’t stop,” | urged in an equally strangled voice. “Do whatever you want to me. I just don’t know how much more I can take.” 🪻💜🪻
Truth is- it’s probably one of my favorite books of this series. Simply excellent. The tortured hero and his HEA. Harley was simply perfect as Kolya’s other half. Read the preface to the book/the author’s statement- and it hits hard and close to home.
💜
I'm glad I read this novel and I truly want to jump right back & read this entire series again. Seriously under-hyped.
💜 Loved it . . . Need more like this in my life.
💟💟💟💟💟💟 Kolya & Harley were exceptional.

Beautiful broken boys for the win. 💜

The way he watched me, even when he wasn’t directly looking in my direction, excited me. The glimpses of the man behind the stony, silent exterior, intrigued me. And holy cow, that body turned me on, unleashing the wildest fantasies in the dead of night. ▬▬▬▬▬▬✖︎✖︎✖︎▬▬▬▬▬
The latest addition to the Vlasov Bratva series had my heart racing before I’s even cracked it open. I just knew Alexa was about to deliver another unforgettable ride, and wow, she did not disappoint. Harley is a heroine you can’t help but root for. She’s juggling multiple jobs to save up for vet school in the fall, driven by a lifelong dream and a quiet determination. Meanwhile, the old McTavish place gets new owners and Harley soon meets brothers Lucas and Kole (aka Luka and Kolya). Lucas is charming and talkative, but it’s the brooding, enigmatic Kole who instantly captures Harley’s attention. Though the attraction is mutual, Kole knows she can never truly be his. Not when he’s hiding more than just his real identity. What hooked me most about this story was how refreshingly different it felt from so many other mafia romances. Kole isn’t just the dark, dangerous enforcer type. He struggles with insomnia and terrifying sleepwalking blackouts. Episodes where he’s still functional, still moving through the world, but utterly unaware. This vulnerability added such a fascinating layer to his character. And then there’s his mission: to take down human traffickers one by one. But during one of his sleepwalking episodes, he slips up, exposing himself to the very monsters he’s hunting. Forced to lie low, he ends up in Harley’s quiet lakeside town. When she gets roped into giving Kole swimming lessons, the walls between them slowly crumble, and that simmering tension ignites into scorching passion. They both know it can’t last, but when it’s time to walk away, Kole vanishes like a ghost, convinced it’s the only way to keep Harley safe. What I loved most was Harley herself. She’s easily one of my favorite heroines in recent memory. Determined, compassionate, and mature, she goes after her dreams even without solid support from her family. She cares deeply for the animals she treats, she handles Kole’s sleepwalking with grace and empathy, and she isn’t afraid to claim what she wants. (Bonus points: she’s not a naïve virgin either, which was a breath of fresh air!) When she finally learns the truth about Kole, her reaction is understanding rather than melodramatic, proving she’s every bit the equal of the man who stole her heart. If this is the final book in the series, Alexa has gone out with a bang. Emotional, unique, and brimming with chemistry, this story pulled me in from page one and never let go. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“Silent Heart” is the fifth book in “The Vlasov Bratva Series.” It’s a stand-alone darker mafia romance set in the Midwest Underworld. This is the story of Harley and Kolya, aka Kole. Kole is an ex Navy Seal suffering from severe PTSD. He is the silent brooding type, involved in stopping the trafficking of women - known as the skin trade. Harley is a Wisconsin local, living with her grandparents and loves horses. She is a hard worker - works at the local veterinary clinic during the day, plus farm chores and waitresses at the “The Landing” in the evenings - all to save up for university in the fall.
Kolya is automatically attracted to Harley. “I clenched my jaw tight, breath coming hard and fast. Women didn’t affect me this way. I wasn’t some playboy, chasing every skirt. I was controlled, a well-regulated machine that was driven by objectives. And yet one look and it was clear to anyone with eyes that this wholesome beauty was far from normal.” He fights his attraction towards Harley, but it is not easy to….. “She’s not for you. She’s from the normal world.” She is a calming influence in his life, accepts him as he is and dies not judge him. His biggest fear, would that change, if she knew the real him?
The attraction between them is not one sided! “ ….immediately pinning me with a stormy blue stare. I fell. Not literally, but there was a moment I found myself spilling into those depths. It was as if a vast chasm had opened, and I was the lucky soul to peek into the abyss.” After a beautiful summer romance, he leaves with a simple message, “I’m sorry, Harley.” With both their hearts broken, Kolya knows, that this is the only way to protect her. Will the demons from his past destroy him, or will he destroy them?
This book had me hooked from the start! Being a Mafia Romance story, it is dark in places, violent at times, passionate in places, full of secrets, loyalties tested and let’s not forget the heat between them. You will fall in love with Kolya and Harley, hoping that everything with work out for them and if they have a future together. There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! I know I was - just love these two! A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊
DNF. Wow it’s dreary. Everyone treats Harley like a doormat, and she puts up with it.
It’s hard to find anything positive to say about this book. Harley is treat like a doormat by everyone, including Kole who blows hot and cold with her, has s*x with her then tells her she can’t be at his house. He puts flowers on her car, has s*x with her and tells her she can’t be at his house. Her grandparents who she lives with are awful to her as well, (What happened to her parents??) Her grandparents who want her to stay in their town and give up her silly dream of being a vet. She works three jobs to save money for college in Chicago and her grandad is awful to her about it. They say that she’s abandoning them and their farm, yet she has no say in the farm at all and it’s being left to her MALE cousins and she’s treat like it’s nothing to do with her. 😡😡
Kole is the brother of Luka and is also ex special forces. For some bizarre reason Dimi sent him to pursue human traffickers who killed Dani’s sister, ON HIS OWN! ONE MAN AGAINST HUNDREDS!!! When the inevitable happens and the traffickers find out who he is, WHEN HE’S SLEEP WALKING ROUND THEIR COMPOUND, (Oh good grief. 😂) they target him. He goes into hiding at a lake house that they’ve bought in Harley’s town. Kole had a severe head injury while he was in the army, yet they didn’t discharge him even when he’s sleep walking all the time! 🙄
When he meets Harley they have an instant attraction to each other, but Kole is determined to push her away, as she’s too good too pure, too sweet blah blah blah. When he starts sleep walking to find her she has to take him back to bed and stay with him. As one night he was in the lake when she found him. As they get closer Kole pushes her away, then gets closer to her, then pushes her away again. AAAAAARRRGHHH! In the middle of all this is her granddad who for some bizarre reason hates the rich people who buy houses in their town and forbids Harley from seeing Kole. WTAF AM I READING?
To be fair to her grandparents Harley uses their home as a hotel. Between working three jobs, she never does anything to help her arthritic grandmother in the house. It’s hard to like anyone in this book.
Harley’s voice pulled me in instantly. She’s the kind of heroine you root for without hesitation, compassionate, grounded, and quietly determined. She’s working multiple jobs, saving every penny to chase her dream of becoming a veterinarian. And when a mysterious new neighbor moves into the biggest house on the lake, Harley doesn’t just meet him, she’s hired to teach him how to swim. But Kole isn’t just another brooding mafia enforcer. He’s different. He’s not one of them, not one of us. He’s a beast in the dark, haunted by sleepwalking blackouts that take him places he doesn’t remember, including Harley’s doorstep. That vulnerability, that brokenness beneath the surface, is what makes him unforgettable. Their connection is slow-burning and electric. Harley’s touch calms the storm inside him, and Kole’s presence challenges everything she thought she wanted. She’s leaving in the fall, chasing a future she’s worked so hard for. But those storm-blue eyes, that quiet desperation in him, it’s impossible to ignore. What makes Silent Heart stand out is how deeply personal it feels. Kole isn’t just fighting enemies, he’s fighting himself. His mission to take down human traffickers is noble, but it’s also dangerous. And when his secrets catch up to him, the fragile peace he’s found with Harley is threatened. What I loved: Harley’s strength. She’s not naïve, not waiting to be saved, she’s chasing her own future. Kole’s complexity. His sleepwalking, his guilt, his protectiveness, it all made him feel real. The chemistry. It’s slow, simmering, and absolutely worth the wait. The emotional depth. This isn’t just a romance, it’s a story about healing, trust, and choosing love even when it’s terrifying.
Silent Heart is the fifth book in the Vlasov Bratva series, but you can totally read it as a standalone. It’s a darker mafia romance about Kolya, a broody ex-Navy SEAL with PTSD, and Harley, a sweet but ambitious heroine working multiple jobs to save up for vet school. They meet at the lake one summer, and the chemistry is there from the start. (Slow burn with a lot of push and pull.)
I really enjoyed the emotional mix in this story. Kolya is the classic broken, silent hero, but Harley brings warmth and determination, and together they create this addictive tension. There are sweet little moments (like swimming lessons and small gestures of affection) right alongside darker mafia themes, danger, and plenty of spice. And don’t worry, there’s a guaranteed HEA with no cliffhanger, which made the whole ride satisfying.
That said, a few things didn’t always work for me. Kolya has this habit of pulling Harley close and then pushing her away again, which can get a bit repetitive. Harley herself sometimes feels too passive, especially with how she lets people treat her, whether it’s Kole blowing hot and cold or her grandparents trying to control her life. The family dynamics are rough, and honestly, it’s hard to like her grandparents at all. Also, the “beast” comparisons for Kolya weren’t really my favorite.
Still, overall this was an emotional, darkly romantic story with hurt/comfort vibes, spice balanced with plot, and that satisfying “touch her and die” energy. If you like broken heroes, sweet heroines chasing big dreams, and mafia romance with a guaranteed happy ending, this one is worth picking up.

This book had me at the dedication….. “Just like the winds that blow the clouds away and spring that warms after the winter, the broken road can lead you exactly where you’re supposed to go”
Kolya the brooding, silent and mysterious assassin of the Vlasov Bratva is laying low at a small town by a lake. He is ex special ops and his current life mission is to eliminate a women trafficking ring. After a bad injury he is left to deal with insomnia and black outs… Harley is a next door sweetheart, early 30’s working two jobs to finance her dream to become a veterinarian. They meet at the lake ( Kolya’s brother Luka plays a big role in that) and the attraction is mutual. Harley has no idea who he truly is or what he does and Kolya makes sure to keep it that way. He must keep her out of his lifestyle and does not want to bring danger to her. He tells her that there cannot be a future for them (even though it hurts him deeply) and they both agree to enjoy their summer together (even though this breaks her heart too) and then part ways. She will go to college after all. Alexa can write that is fors ure. Another excellent book, with amazing character development, plot, feelings, spice (Kolya may bet he silent type, but in bed he was such a dirty talker). An emotional journey that of cource delivered the sweetest HEA and beautiful moments with all the Vlasov brothers /cousins and their ladies. A must read if you appreciate: ⭐️ Bratva assassin MMC ⭐️ Sweetheart FMC ⭐️ Touch her and die vibes ⭐️ Broken hero ⭐️ Hurt and healing ⭐️ Spice and plot ⭐️ HEA
Kolya has more depth in this book than the other MCs mainly because he popped in and out of earlier plots. He has brain damage from undisclosed war injuries, can’t fall asleep and when he does, he sleep walks, becomes violent and hurts people. Harley is a small town girl, lives with small minded grandparents and a ton of unpredictable cousins and has plans to go back to vet school. Her entire family is trying to manipulate her into staying and marrying a local boy. Any local boy would do as long as she doesn’t leave.
Harley and Kolya are a little awkward together. He doesn’t talk. She uses her intuition and her training with scared and injured animals to related to him. He’s afraid of hurting her. She doesn’t think he’s dangerous. They’re initially friends with benefits, which grows into a strong love match. Kolya has secrets he won’t talk about and Harley has plans to be a vet. They declare their feelings but Kolya abandons Harley with no explanation halfway in the plot.
So the breakup isn’t really in the 3rd act and as much as I hate those, it was necessary so these two could work on themselves and change the direction of their lives. I loved how the author used that plot device to show the progression of these characters, as well as the side characters. I think this was the best book in the series, with well rounded, strong characters. It ended rather abruptly and an epilogue would’ve been nice to show the lives of all the characters a few years down the road.
Silent Heart by Alexa Michaels ARC Review: 4/5 Stars
I am so sad to say this is the last book in the Vlasov Bratva series!!! And can I just say omg what an adventure it has been to get to this point in the story, and I am really sad to say it was an amazing ending to a beautiful series. I truly loved all the moments we got to have and or had with the Vlasov family, they were truly stunning and oh so full of chemistry and love that you as the reader felt like you were a part of it all too (in a way we were though)!!
But getting back into this plot, our lovely ending story follows our two wonderful MC Koyo and Harley (I don’t even know who I love more. Okay so don't ask!) But these two were so freaking adorable, watching them both grow throughout the plot really made my heart swoon because they are such a good match. Harley literally makes me think there is some hope in the world because she is such a great and awesome character and she has a freakin 'gift when it comes to patients and understanding people's emotions. Especially when it comes from Koyo because he is a lot more difficult in the reading emotions category due to the fact he doesn’t explain much or that he is just kinda quiet. Though I love his personality when it's mixed with Harley because she does bring out the best in him and the fact that she deals with all of it is just beautiful.
Silent Heart by Alexa Michaels is the final book in The Vlasov Bratva series. Wow what a way to end an amazing series. I truly loved the Vlasov family. Each couple had great chemistry and complimented one another perfectly. Koya and Harley were absolutely adorable together. The plotline in this book was interesting and I truly enjoyed it. The characters had depth and I loved watching them grow through out the story. I am sad this series is over!
Harley was loyal, understanding, and intelligent. I loved how she understood Koya. There were a few times where I thought it would be a miscommunication trope but Harley was so understanding and took the time to think things over before reacting. I truly loved her character and how she supported Koya. Koya was grumpy, morally grey, and badass. I loved his character since he was first introduced in this series. His book was everything I was hoping it was going to be. I loved his relationship with Harley!!
- Bratva romance - Small town romance - Secret identity - Touch her at your own peril
Oh, my word. Alexa has done it again. Her books are always a highlight for me. The characters are so dear to my heart and always have some aspect that make them memorable.
If you have read any of the other Vlasov series, you will have met Kolya before. He is a Special Ops veteran that is now plagued with a sleepwalking condition. He is basically hiding out in a small lakeside town for the summer because he blew his cover while having an episode.
Harley and her family live on a large farm. While most of the family is content to live there forever, Harley has dreams of leaving to become a veteranarian. She has been saving money and taking community college courses and is finally ready to go to the main campus in the fall.
The broody Kolya is so irresistable and infuriating to the driven Harley. And their chemistry is sizzling! I absolutely loved watching their romance unfold!
Be prepared for a love story that will test the organization (mafia) and your misconceptions about possession, and the mafia life itself. Harley is the heroine in this story, her dream to be a veterinary has her working to the extreme. That is how she meets Kole -a ex military suffering from PTSD- who is in charge of a mission but his condition (sleep walking) makes him a target. The beauty of this story is on their relationship, the way they see each other, the way they accept their weaknesses, and fight for what they want. Of course there is suspense, action, and darkness that surrounds them. But it is Harley who brings this book together, her strong personality, caring soul, passionate lover, planner, and independent will fight for what she wants, will Kole follow her? Can they get a HEA? This book is a great read!.

Brilliant brilliant brilliant! I'd give it 20 stars if I could. Such a warm emotional yet suspenseful story. I just loved it.
When Vet student Harley met flawed Mafia man Kolya she knew little about him even his name.
This pairing of a couple was inspirational. Kolya with his strong quiet ways with his secrets. Plus the blackouts that bought Harley and Kolya together. Harley who knew what she wanted and went after it but Kolya knew what he wanted also even if he thought he shouldn't have it. They were a genuine pairing and I loved reading about the slow build of the relationship.
I also enjoyed both his and her family and the huge contrast between them. But the ending was so fun.
Beautifully written with a simple but engaging plot and the best characters you could ask for. Sweet, steamy and oh so romantic. Just the best!!!
Alexa Michaels is a mafia writing queen. This series has been so good. This is my favorite book of the series with Beauty and the Beast vibes I devoured this one so fast. It was an action-packed, exciting, sexy romance that was humorous at times and full of swoon-worthy steamy moments.
Harley and Kolya have such great banter and hot chemistry. I appreciate when there's a mature FMC that not only has a good head on her shoulders but an excellent sense of humor. I loved her inner monologue. Koyla is such a grumpy delicious beast of a man. He gave good yearning. His protectiveness over Harley had me melting.

Overall a fantastic mafia romance I recommend it all day long.
Y’all, when I say I love this book I mean I devoured it in one sitting! I have been dying for Kolya’s book since Vengeful Dreams, and Alexa exceeded my expectations!
This is a mafia romance featuring a tortured MMC, and the sunshine veterinarian FMC that grabs his attention and won’t let go. Kolya is the epitome of quiet and broody. Harley is the classic girl next door. These two have such electric chemistry it just jumps off the page. I loved how protective Kolya was over her. Just everything about these two had my heart! I honestly did not want this book to end!
I would definitely recommend this book…really this whole series to you if you’re a fan of mafia reads!
I don't think I've ever come across a 'summer' Mafia romance, if 'summer' means boating and swimming in the lake. Hayley is in her mid-thirties; still letting her grandmother boss her around including sneaking into her room through the window to avoid her! She's working hard to go back to school to be a vet and escape her small town lake life. Kole is hiding out from the traffickers he has been eliminating. She completely loses her cool around him; babbles like a teen because of their sizzling chemistry. Kolya is silent and mysterious; Hayley is the 'girl next door' type. We know that because she says "oh, my lanta." The only interesting thing about these characters is that Kole is a sleep walker. The story is mostly told through narration. I lost interest. DNF.
Omg! This was just as amazing as its other counterparts. Kolya and Harley are so damn perfect for each other it’s not even funny. I felt Harley’s love for this big gargoyle of a man. The way she protects him from himself is nothing but a short of beautiful. And the way he loves her. Huh had my heart. Family means everything to Harley and the fact that she would protect the ones she loves is beautiful even if that means she gets hurt in the process. Her grandfather (a man of few words) delivers at the end! And omg did my heart stop for that ending. This man is so amazing in all that he does and the lengths he goes for; for his girl is simply amazing. I am in love with this whole series. it is simply beautiful.
Wow, could this book be anymore perfect? Each one Alexa writes in this Vlasov world has me falling more in love with the characters and their story. Somehow, each one tops the one before it! Kolya is amazing, Harley is goals. I love how they grow together and support each other, in the end they both are heading to a strong future that is fair and perfect for them. This book moved at a good pace, got to know the characters well, and there’s plenty of action - and spice. I only wish the book was longer or had a bonus scene, I’m not ready to say goodbye! This was an arc read that’s taken me a little too long to read, thank you so much to Alexa for letting me read this, I am so grateful.
Alexa did it again with another perfect Mafia romance. Kolya is one of my favorites in this series. A wounded man with love to give and he doesn't even realize it. There is something about men like him that make me swoon. Kolya and Harley make quiet the grumpy and sunshine couple. My absolute favorite thing about this book was that Harley was in her 30s!! Unfortunately she still acted like she was in her early 20s half the time but it was tolerable. Kolya was the serious to her childish making for some funny conversations.
Silent Heart by Alexa Michaels is a dark mafia romance novel. It features a small town girl FMC and a bratva MMC with summer vibes. This book is a part of an interconnected stand-alone series.
I really liked the tropes for this book. While I did enjoy the story, I found that the majority of it was more telling instead of showing.
But, if you've ever wanted to read a summer mafia romance set in a small town with a big crazy family and horses, then this book is for you.
Harley is a vet-tech and Kolya is a mafia with trauma. When he met Harley, Kolya knew he had to stay away. He was no good for her. Harley was determined to be around him even if her family only saw him as a snobby rich person. She refused to let them get in the way. No matter how hard Kolya tried to stay away Harley managed weasel her way back in. What will happen if Harley manages to get thrown into the mafia world?
A cowgirl and a quiet man, absolutely perfect for each other. This book is fast paced, and a fun read!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book initially. The synopsis didn't really draw me in as they're not the usual plots I enjoy reading. I mean I enjoy mafia themed books but was unsure about the sleep walking. The author was the reason I gave the book a try as I love a lot of her other books. This book was a slow start but it did eventually got me hooked. I like how the characters and their relationship developed and how they complement eachother. I look forward to reading the earlier Vlasov bratva series.

Harley and Kole were a great match in this book. Him laying low and not looking for a relationship. Her wanting to leave town and pursue her dreams. Didn’t exactly turn it the way for either of them. Kole runs into Harley and there’s just something about her that he can’t get past. His attraction to her was great. This book kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next throughout. I lived the twists and turns. The way they came together. Both of them were awesome. I’m definitely going to have to go back and read the others.
Although part of the Vlasov Bratva, set in the Midwest Underworld series this book stands alone. An interesting read that grabs you and never let's go. The characters were well written and developed. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well planned. The world building was excellent. All in all a very good read. Recommend.

Silent Heart is definitely a darker mafia romance, with some very interesting twists and moments throughout the story. What really stood out to me was the depiction of chronic illness—it’s described in a calm and logical way that feels authentic and relatable. It adds an extra layer of depth to the characters and the story, which I truly appreciated.

Loved Harley and Kolya’s story. Harley is trying her hardest to make her dreams come true, and she has bother hands full with her family. Kolya is in hiding when he meets Harley and can’t help but to fall for her. Loved Harley’s family and all of the drama that ensues along with how she and kolya end up back together. It took a while, but she finally was able to find her place in life with him and his family.
Harley and Kolya are the perfect grumpy/sunshine duo! Koylas tortured by his past and Harley just wants to pursue her dreams, when their paths cross the chemestry Ignites but his past doesn't stay that way and what happens when she learns his dark truths? Well written steamy, desires, chemestry sizzling characters, action and more
Alexa, created amazing characters and finding their most ideal love mates! Each story was very unique and more entertaining than most. Too often a story will mimic one I've already read. Can't wait to read her last in the Vaslov family series!!!! Cheers 😘
Just when I think I loved the last boom the most Alexa Michaels come out with Harley and Kolya. I just fell in love with them, the mid thirties Harley with priorities but still has some young at heart antics and Kolya the dark, family life isn’t for me. I knew I would love Kolya’s story when we got small glimpse of him in the other books and I was right.
