USA Today bestselling author Jane Blythe writes action-packed romantic suspense and military romance featuring protective heroes and heroines who are survivors. One of Jane's most popular series includes Prey Security, part of Susan Stoker's OPERATION ALPHA world! Writing in that world alongside authors such as Janie Crouch and Riley Edwards has been a blast, and she looks forward to bringing more books to this genre, both within and outside of Stoker's world. When Jane isn't binge-reading she's counting down to Christmas and adding to her 200+ teddy bear collection!
The book is phenomenal. You get dragged in from the start and it’s hard to put it down once you start reading. The Battle that poor Willow goes through is so hard and yet she finds the strength to keep going and fight for her life and love. Cooper wasn’t looking for love but ended up finding Willow and from her strength to survive he couldn’t get her out of his mind and heart. The chemistry is so strong. I love this book so much and can’t wait for the next one.
Deceptive Lies captured my attention right at the beginning! Cooper and Willow's backstories endeared them to me and kept me turning the pages to see how all the puzzle pieces came together. As always Jane Blythe does not write ordinary or boring. This story was an edge-of-your-seat ride as the characters navigate struggles, revelations, and unexpected twists. Great start to the series!
A great start to a new series with a new ongoing mystery to solve and all new team. Trying to discover the truth about what happened to his parents Cooper goes to Egypt and runs across way more than he bargained for. Lots of trauma and so much evil around every corner. She always puts her characters through the wringer but in the end is there HEA!!
This book is described as a romantic suspense, and there was a suspense plot, but this was the primary focus. It definitely had a military protector theme, and Cooper was a strong, former special ops guy turned private government security specialist. However, although very protective, he was not really what I would describe as a sexy, alpha male. Willow was a very strong, intelligent and independent woman, but not really sexually aware or confident. The entire first half of the book was devoted to Willow being rescued by Cooper, after being kidnapped and beaten. There was little if any romance and certainly no steam…not even a foreshadowing of an exciting, spicy romance developing. This book needs a lot more edgy, sexy alpha male, and a sassy, seductively confident female in addition to an edge-of-your-seat suspense theme to keep my interest. This PG-13 romantic suspense was just not doing it for me.
Deceptive Lies is book one in the Prey Security: Charlie Team by Jane Blythe. Willow Purcell had one aim in life: to clear her father's name. However, she thought that she would never achieve that when she became a prisoner in an underground cell in Egypt. Cooper Charleston and his siblings were looking for the murderer of their parents when they came across Willow Purcell, and forgetting about his purpose of being there, he decided to save Willow's life. The readers of Deceptive Lies need to discover what happens.
The readers of Deceptive Lies will begin to understand the issues faced by children who suffer traumatic situations during childhood and their desire to find answers. I also learned about some of Egypt's tourist attractions, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Imhotep Museum. I appreciate Jane Blythe's writing style, which consistently engages me with her stories and characters. Deceptive Lies continues my engagement with her books.
I love Jane Blythe's portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other throughout this book. Deceptive Lies is well-written and researched by Jane Blythe. I appreciate Jane Blythe's description of the settings in Deceptive Lies, which enabled me to envision myself as part of the book's plot.
Action from beginning to end! This book was a definite page-turner. With a surprise twist i didn't see coming and wonderful characters, it's the perfect start to the Charlie Team series!!! I loved Cooper and Willow's story! A terrific book that will leave you wanting more!
My rating – two stars. There’s so much I want to say about this book … and not all good! I cannot understand how this book had got such great ratings! The plot had potential but it was executed badly. Willow is portrayed as a strong, vibrant woman, but in reality was starting to get on my nerves! She was too perfect, too in control, too strong, never giving in to pain … everything a normal person should experience! Literally, the first half of this book we’re dealing with Willow getting beat up, trying to be strong … and repeatedly saying that she was sorry about Cooper getting caught! Then, we have Cooper who was totally inept. For a man who had military experience, it certainly didn’t play out that way at all. He bumbled from one scenario to the next. The scene where Willow watches her father die, left me shaking my head! There was no recourse …. no justice for her and her mom? The men walked away with no consequences …. like, whoops we got the wrong man … sorry!? As for the mandatory sex scene, Willow had been beaten to the very inch of her life and she wants to have sex? I have had cracked ribs before, and there was no bloody way I was letting my man near me! Just saying! I spent 90% of this book glossing over pertinent parts to get the gist of the book … which I found very unrealistic, cheesy and predictable. Willow was a story, the men were just accessories.!

If you want to start a series with a bang, this is how you do it! The Charleston brothers (and sister) make up Charlie Team for Prey Security. Since their parents died in their childhood, they have been searching for the reason why. After serving in the armed forces, they join Prey Security. On a trip to Egypt to talk to a source who claims to have info on their mom, Cooper stumbles upon an American woman being held captive.
Reporter Willow is in Egypt to expose the Charleston Brothers’ source, a professor of Egyptology, as a radical terrorist. She is taken by the professor and held captive for weeks. When Cooper finds her she is one big bruise, with some broken bones thrown in for good measure.
If you read military romance you know Cooper and Willow will have a hard journey to their HEA. But, dang Jane! I have never seen a couple go through so much. You had me in tears! This is one of the best rescue stories I have read in years! Y’all read this book! It is non-stop action, highs and lows, Hero saves the girl who turns around and saves the hero (multiple times!) Only the fact I KNEW there was a HEA kept me reading through my tears! I love the Prey series, and this offshoot series is building up to be the best one yet. 15/10 recommend!
I was immediately hooked by the story from the get-go and absorbed all the way through. It is slightly different, and I was there for it, in that the story mainly takes place where the protagonist is and things evolve rather quickly. Being introduced to the Prey Charlie Team is another bonus and their background is also intriguing.
Extremely hot, unhappy, in excruciating pain and never knowing when it will end was how we met Willow. Her capture, subsequent torture and imprisonment in an underground cell was a living hell. Her character’s inner strength was incredible and she had my utmost admiration. She is one of the most selfless characters I’ve read about and the whole way through the story I was cheering her on. Cooper was an alpha protector who was in Egypt on another matter but thank goodness he was there. His character was honourable, loyal and determined. I liked him immediately, too.
Set in Egypt the descriptions are fantastic and I even felt a bit warmer with the recount of walking in the desert. The suffering both lead characters went through made me cringe, especially poor Willow. The emotions that came through the writing reached deeply into my heart.
A great start to a new series and I am eagerly awaiting the next book now.
They are both driven by the need for the truth, they want answers, they get secrets and lies, but they also find each other and a once in a lifetime love. Willow is amazingly strong, she refuses to let them break her and even when she's moments from death, she puts Cooper first. Her body takes an unbelievable amount of torture, of pain, but it is her mind that is most impressive and Cooper can only look on in awe as she fights to survive, fights for freedom and fights for the answers they both need. This is going to be a brutal series, the losses suffered by this team at such an early age are definitely life changing, thankfully they have each other and the six of them being on a team together doesn't make them a higher risk....it makes them stronger. They understand each other in a way that nobody else can, and this is why Willow fits into the team so well too, she unfortunately has the same understanding, the same need to protect innocence and dig out the truth...no matter how well buried. I cannot wait for the rest of this series, I love all of the Prey Security team series, but I have a feeling these guys are going to find a special place in our hearts. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Jane Blythe hit a grand slam with Deceptive Lies . It went zero to one hundred in the first couple of pages and didn't slow down until the final two chapters. I'm talking extremely fast paced action, highly intense drama and riveting suspense. Willow Purcell and Cooper Charleston both suffered tragic events early in their lives that shaped from that day forward. You talk about courage, fortitude and perseverance. Willow has it in spades. Copper is a protector to his soul. He's not afraid to use his strength and intimidating stature to achieve his aim when it comes to protecting his family or his charges. He knew from the moment that he spotted a small black draped figure sitting in a corner of the kitchen belonging to the man he was questioning, that something was off. Saving, protecting and getting Willow to safety is his primary focus. The fearless, stalart woman crawls into his heart almost immediately. For her part, gratitude doesn't begin express what she quickly finds herself feeling for Cooper. He demolished the walls she's built around herself in a heartbeat.
This new series in the Prey Security world certainly hits the ground running. I was cursing Jane Blythe in the early hours of the morning when I really could not put this book down. Willow and Cooper find their romance while Cooper is on an unrelated mission and from that moment on, it is all systems-go with an absolutely crazy trip towards their HEA. I love that Jane Blythe is always unpredictable in her story telling so you can never work out what is going to happen next as the plot twists and turns. I was thrilled to discover that Cooper's siblings are also members of this team so there are several more stories to be told in this new series. I recommend this book unreservedly and eagerly await the next in the series.
What a fantastic start to a new series Cooper and Willow are amazing. Both Cooper and Willow suffered through horrendous traumas with their parents. For Cooper it was the arrest and death of his mother and step father, so quickly after the death of his father. Willow watched her father be tarnished by a less that honest journalist and vigilantes beat him to death. These incidents impacted who they are today and the strength in their character. And boy, Willow is strong. This is a suspenseful and thrilling romance. Can Cooper and Willow make it out of Egypt, keeping each other safe? Their exciting story will have you at the edge of your seat! Hang on and enjoy it! I'm so excited for the next book for the Charlie team.
An explosive and action filled start to a brand new series by Jane Blythe. This books takes us on a massive roller coaster ride of emotions and with all the drama from the very first page you constantly have your heart beating a hundred miles an hour. I loved Willow and Cooper and their journey had me constantly on the edge of my seat. Willow was a very strong woman and her courage and determination will win you over. I loved the chemistry between Cooper and Willow and I just loved this book and all the characters. I am so excited to read more in this series which stars Cooper’s brother and stepbrothers. An amazing book and start to the Charlie Team series. Well done Jane Blythe! You never let us down and you continue to always give us outstanding stories and characters.
OMG! What a FANTASTIC story by Jane! This story is about Cooper and Willow! The story begins with Willow being held captive and beaten on a daily basis. Wow! Willow is definitely a very strong woman, no matter how badly she was beaten. Cooper met her on his second visit to the man holding Willow captive. This couple find they have strong feelings for each other. It isn't until towards the end that Cooper's brothers finally find him and Willow. It's a sad story but you have to be very amazed at Willow's strength and endurance. As expected, the bad guys threatening Willow have been taken care of. FANTASTIC job Jane! I would highly recommend this book! Great start to the next team!
What an amazing way to start a new series. I was grabbed right from the start with Cooper and Willow. All Cooper wants is to get to the truth about his mother for his siblings sake, he never imagined he would be saving an American woman from imminent death. These two are on the same track to the same person, and when Cooper figures out the woman needs his help there is no way he would leave her behind. Cooper’s decision puts them a target on their back and on a path to do everything they can to survive and get home. The connection between them is undeniable, and their story is action packed, intense and will have you flipping the page until the last page.
I got no words on how bad this book is. This book focused on suspense than on romance, but it's not like the suspense had an amazing plot anyway.
Cooper supposed to be a hot and amazing security specialist, yet he brought Willow to his hotel (which he booked under his real name) first thing after the rescue. I mean.. Even I'm not that dumb. Plus the connection between the two seems like.. opportunity rather than chemistry. The rescue seems too fast, they keep running and running, yet the deep connection they supposed to have is none! Plus from the beginning Cooper not level headed at all. He seems frantic all the time, and it's annoying.
Jane has done it again. It's time again to fall in love and get enthralled by another Prey security Team. Charlie Team starts off with a bang. Charlie team is formed by a group of brothers who are fighting for justice but are also on a personal quest to find out what happened 20 years ago to their own family. Cooper thought he was in Egypt to hopefully find a peice of the puzzle to his past what he does find is Willow who is also on a quest of her own. What happens next is a journey that includes, danger, and maybe some insta love?? Get ready because Jane never disappoints.
With so many Prey Teams there is no dull moment of reading. And Charlie Team is no different! Its hook, line, sinker again. Hooked the minute you start reading, line, because you keep the lines reading until you finished the book and sinker, because the preview the end will leave you with has you repeating the process again. One would think Jane Blythe would run out of ideas but nope, think again she comes up with something totally different and you are blown away by her creativity yet again. Keep it coming Lady Jane!
Oooowee a new series from Jane Blythe and she does not disappoint! This story starts out from page one grabbing your attention. Both Willow and Cooper have suffered unimaginable losses and are both out to uncover the truth to help heal their respective pasts. They were on two individual, separate courses in life but their goals brought them to the same path. Their instant bond and connection is a heart tugger but the mystery and danger that surrounds them is a heart stopper! I am so excited for this series and judging by this book it’s going to be a great series.
Jane Blythe is back again with another Prey Security Team. This one is comprised of 6 brothers. This first book is Connor and Willow's. They both lived through traumatic losses in their childhoods. They are drawn to each other almost immediately. They defy death with each other's help, multiple times. They are both strong characters with sweet soft sides. There is a lot of action and intrigue and a storyline that looks like it will arc throughout the series. I am looking forward to getting to know the family better.
I really enjoy Prey Security and what an action packed drama this story was. It all started about 2 decades before when the main characters lost parents in tragic circumstances. This led them both on their paths through life. Willow is an investigative reporter and has found herself in deep trouble, the grim reaper is knocking. Cooper is in Egypt for another reason and they both found themselves in the same place. Will he rescue her and will they both survive? This story is intense, the drama and action never ending. I really enjoyed it.
Omg great book. A little confusing to start but after that wow.
Willow had been held captive for a long time, but eventually she sees help in the form of Cooper, a man with his own demons to slay.
This was a story that stuck with me. The dynamic of Willow and Cooper sure had chemistry and a unique connection. Both with things to prove and forces at work against them. But sticking together they eventually work through it.
So well done. An amazing plot that kept me involved and an interesting mix of characters that made the story work.
Wow - moving of story of survival. Epic story of life & death, sacrifice & soul mates!
Willow is the main character of the story. It is so fitting for her name the song about a Willow tree how it is strong enough to hit the sky or bend to the ground but never brakes. The story of the child into an investigating report with survival skills that most would have died rather then endured. Cooper who was on a mission but made a sacrifice to save a stranger and earns so much more. Military ops, evil torture and can be a trigger for some violence. Story was so moving.
Deceptive Lies is the exciting & action packed first Book in Jane Blythe's new Charlie Team Series. Charlie team is made up of 6 brothers we have been trying to prove that their parents were not traitors. Cooper & Willow's story is such a fantastic read, full or suspense, action and steam! These two have an instant attraction to one another and the chemistry is off the charts. I loved this book and can't wait to read the rest of this exciting series!
This is one of my favourite story lines, I love a good rescue and then a fight for survival!
This was a great introduction to Charlie team and the Charleston brothers, I can’t wait to read more from them.
A great story which kept my attention throughout. I read this in one sitting and devoured each page. I loved both Cooper and Willow, they were perfect for each other.
Overall a great book and as per usual with Jane’s books the ending leaves you needing book 2 now!
Wow, Couldn't stop reading this book, what a page-turner. Willow and Cooper both had traumatic childhoods. Willow is a journalist and she went to find out more information about Professor Mahmoud and he kidnapped her. Then Cooper went to find out information about his mom from the same man and realized that Willow was an American and he needed to help her. He made the decision to save her. Willow and Cooper had to go through a lot to get away. Highly recommend.
I absolutely loved this story. It was so good. Willow was put through h*ll all trying to clear her father's name. She was kidnapped and abused all at the hands of a man she is trying to take down. Cooper and his brothers are doing everything they can to clear their mother's name. One thing Cooper knows and that is when someone is in trouble and he knows that Willow is. If you like action, a lot of suspense, revenge, tenderness and of course some steam then this book is for you. I loved how Cooper was so protective of Willow but she was just as protective of him. I absolutely love this book and can not wait for the next one. I highly recommend this story.
I was captivated from the get go, literally could not put it down. Willow went through something as a child, that no child ever should, which set her on her path as an adult. Cooper also went through something, while similar, but very different. These two meet in a pretty horrific situation. What comes out of this encounter is action, mystery and pure adrenaline.
What a fantastic beginning to the next series of Prey Security.Willow is a journalist who has found info on a possible terrorist organization.Cooper is looking for any info he can regarding his mother. They come together as the person is the same for both . There is a lot of action going on in this book and can hardly wait for the next one. Jane has knocked it out of the park
