Sweets & Treats opened to enthusiastic response from customers, but a summer of torrential rain has dampened sales—and Clara’s mood. Determined to make her patisserie dream a reality, she’s working around the clock to refine her business model and attract customers.

Meanwhile, Maisie has launched her cooking school, adding new classes to meet growing demand. Both women find themselves inundated with unsolicited advice from the men in their lives, leading them to rely on each other for support and encouragement.

Tensions rise as Kurt wonders if Clara has time for their relationship. His doubts are reinforced when a chance encounter gives him the entirely wrong idea. As a tornado warning looms, Clara and Kurt face more than just the threat of an impending storm.

Follow along as Clara rises to every challenge, with Noelle at her side.

Tarts & Turnovers by Barbara Hinske is the fourth book in her Paws and Pastries Series. Although, when I signed up to review for this book, I didn’t realize it was part of a series. I just knew from reading her books in series she has done with several other authors that I wanted to read one of her books. Now, I know that I have already fallen in love with her characters and desperately need to read the first three books in the series.

The characters in this book immediately felt like old friends. Barbara has a way with her development of Clara and Kurt and their supporting cast that just pulls you in the minute you open the book. They are flawed but loving people and aren’t we all? I really can’t tell you what it was that was so different but, there was something different. I really care for all the people in this story.

They live in the little town of Pinewood. I assume it is not a big town. The people all seem to know each other and their business. That is what a small town is for. Right? I loved living in a small town and would like to get back there someday. There is nothing like making a quick trip to the store and finding a lot of people you know to talk to and that 15 minute trip turns into an hour!

Clara has just recently opened a Patiserie and Kurt is an attorney. Clara is so busy, Kurt wonders if she has time in her life for him. He understands since he went through the same thing starting his law firm but, a little insecurity is creeping in. I can’t tell you what all happens in this situation because I want you to enjoy the process of everything unfolding just like I did.

If you love a good love story that takes place in a close knit town, one that pulls together to help each other out in times of illness and troubles, and one that makes you feel like you have found home, then Tarts & Turnovers by Barbara Hinske is for you. Put this on your nightstand and you will be guaranteed a night of beautiful dreams. Until next time…Happy Reading!

DELIGHTFUL!

It is summertime, but the living isn’t easy for Clara or Maisie. Torrential downpours have kept customers from flocking to Sweets & Treats, Clara’s patisserie. Not one to go down without a fight, she has devised several plans on her own, and her staff surprises her with a few outstanding ways to help promote the store and take some of the burden from her. Maisie has decided to start a cooking school to teach basic cooking skills and equip anyone to learn how to cook an entire meal. Each week, she has the help of an assistant, and they gather all the necessary ingredients for their students. Maisie gives them the printed recipes, and then they make them during class and take them home to serve their families.

Clara is working so hard to find ways to keep Sweets & Treats in the black and not red and keep all of her employees that she unintentionally begins to be a slacker in her relationship with Kurt. Clara plans a special surprise for him that backfires in more ways than one. An unexpected tornado hits their small town, and suddenly, no one can contact Clara. Kurt finds her hurt and rushes her to the hospital. Friends rush to support Maisie as Kurt brings her husband in, too. The storm's aftermath shows the depth of love this close-knit group of friends have for each other as they rally to help Clara with Sweets & Treats while she recuperates and Maisie with the relocation of the Cooking School. Kurt has Clara helping him take care of business at his farm because he has long-term plans for her. Tarts and Turnovers is another delightful book in The Paws and Pastries Series and I highly recommend it!

Casa del Northern Publishing provided me with a complimentary copy of this book. However, my opinions are entirely my own and uninfluenced.

TARTS AND TURNOVERS is the fourth book in the Paws and Pastries series by Barbara Hinske and the only one I’ve read so far. But knowing this author makes all her small towns welcoming to her readers I jumped in and I immediately felt at home.

This is Clara and Kurt’s story and it’s filled with romance and love but also some disagreements, disappointments and misunderstandings. There are so many stories being told that are nicely woven together. We get to see many character interactions and can feel the love and respect between them. There are small businesses, caring characters, pets, injuries, health issues, new ventures, lots of food and baked goods, family, friends and friends who are like family. The story mostly has a good flow but there were a few occasions where we jumped ahead without a good segue. There is a better than expected happily ever after with nice closure but the story ended too abruptly for me.

I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.

This is such a sweet series, in so many ways. Clara is working very hard at making the patisserie a success. She wants to be the ‘place to go to’ for baked goods, even though some close friends feel she should not offer all the items she does. Summer should be a very busy time, but Mother Nature keeps getting in the way by throwing some curve balls her way. Clara is in love with Kurt, but both of them are very busy in their careers, sometimes to the detriment of their relationship. Will Clara be forced to accept help from others to work towards her goal for the patisserie, and spending more time with Kurt and her extended family? Beautifully written and emotionally charged, a wonderful story that is a must read.

This is a fun novella about Clara's patisserie, which had been doing well, but because weather had been terribly bad, she is afraid that she'll be dipping into the red ink before too long. And her relationship with Kurt, a lawyer, isn't going too well because she's so tied up in the shop and she's exhausted.

She's a great employer and a wonderful friend, also interested in helping her community and other business owners. This is the story about a traumatic time in the town. Not only Clara is experiencing difficulties.

I love books about small towns where everyone reaches out to help each other. This is one of those books.

I enjoy reading Barbara Hinske books and I've read most of them from the last few years. I was very happy to be able to get an early copy of this book.

I spent many happy hours of my childhood baking with my mother and grandmother. My love of the broader breadth of cooking came later in life. When I'm not in a rush (it's 6:30--everyone is starved--and I've got no idea what I'm going to put on the table), the kitchen is my happy place.

If I'd realized this when I was younger, I believe I would have loved owning a bakery. Thus began the premise of my Paws & Pastries Series. Through Clara Conway, I'm living out the life I might have had--going down that path not taken, even if it's only in my mind.

I hope you enjoy her latest adventure in Tarts & Turnovers as much as I loved writing it!

This was a delightful addition to the Paws and Pastries series. We are able to take a peek as Clara goes through the ups and downs of opening a new business. Learning to delegate, cut corners when necessary and achieve a home/work balance are just a few of her struggles. Kurt tries his best to support her, but he starts to question her commitment to their relationship. This, coupled with a traumatic event in their town, make for a wonderful romance story with a little drama thrown in for good measure, to use a baking metaphor. You will love Book 4 in the series, and when you finish it you’ll be looking for Book 5!

This series is one of my favorites by Barbara Hinske! This fourth book in the Paws & Pastries series is a lovely, sweet continuation of Clara's story as she continues to re-establish her life in a small town and discovers new ways to keep her bakery thriving. There are inner and external emotions, conflict, resolution and also unexpected gripping events that will keep you turning pages. It is full of realistic characters that have become dear friends and more to one another.... I see at least two or more future books in this series - thank you, Ms. Hinske, for your writing talent in providing this delightful reading escape! :)

I adore Barbara Hinske as she has bought us another GREAT book to read. We have continuing adventures for Clara and Kurt, and their friends in Pinewood. A lot of rain makes sales in Clara's new shop kind of low. Maisie is doing well with her new cooking school. All seems to be well, when there is impending bad weather with a tornado. Another one of those "Can't-Put-Down" books to read in this series. I was privileged to be an Advanced Reader for this book. I highly recommend this book #4 in the "Paws & Pastries series". Even though this is #4 in the series, it is easy to follow along with the characters, which you will soon love to read.

Sweets & Treats.
Barbara wrote a wonderful store about a patisserie the tough times . Clara was a wonderful cook and had help by co-owner Maisie and workers that helped out with making the pastries . Clara had a wonderful man in her like. Then they got hit with the terrible weather rain and they got hit with a storm . Clara had an accident and had no help till Kurt came to find her and found her out in the storm.
This is a fabulous writer and I will read more of her books. She kept me in suspense on what would happen next. Love the characters that where together.
I recommend this book to read.

I found this book to be a heartwarming sweet romance. Clara is under pressure in her new business, working day and night, when she realizes her relationship with her boyfriend Kurt is suffering. The emotions expressed were realistic keeping me engaged throughout the story. I liked all the characters including sweet Noelle. I recommend this entertaining book. I have not read any other books in this series but didn't feel as if I was missing anything.

Thank you to the author for a free advance copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This book was a lovely read with sweet characters and leaving a good feeling overall. It's the story about Clara, the owner of Sweets & Treats a patisserie she'd opened not so very long ago. The other main character is Kurt Holbrook, Clara's boyfriend a successful lawyer. The storytelling is excellent and it brings together nice people, including cooking and baking just making life go around. Re-inventing life and sometimes going the extra mile to do what counts in life. I really enjoyed reading the story and can definitely recommend this book.

I loved this story. These folks in Pinewood are so awesome. One of my favorite things is that Kurt bought his grandparents' house and is fixing it up. That is so special. Another would be the surprise Clara is giving Kurt. I have fond memories of this item at my grandparents’ house. As always, there are a few more surprises that I think you will love as much as I did. I received an ARC of this book, but my opinion is my own.

I’ve been waiting months for this book and flew thru it in one sitting. I loved it! This is the fourth installment in the Paws & Pastries novella series featuring Clara Conway, her rescue dog Noelle, and her growing bakery business. This installment features a home renovation, cooking, and a summer tornado in the town of Pinewood. I love every one of these characters and I wish they were my friends and neighbors. I sincerely hope Ms Hinske keeps going with this series.

Clara’s Sweets & Treats is open for business with great success! While Clara has that “can do” spirit, it lands her in some difficult moments that could change her life. Dearly love the characters in this story to whom Clara has given her heart to. A must read to continue Clara’s journey!

Great story. It's part of a series but easily read as a stand-alone. Great small town romance but with the usual small town dramas to keep you guessing. I enjoyed it and now want to read the rest of the series.
