How fragile this tapestry of reality is, yes? What happens when you pull at the lone, loose thread that tethers together the concept you call “human consciousness? What perceptions will be the first to fall as time and space gives way to the endless cascade of the fourth and fifth dimensions beyond? Can your quaint sense of self handle the unraveling of everything you once thought constant? WE SURE HOPE SO . . . BECAUSE THIS COMIC MIGHT BE THE ONE THING KEEPING YOU SANE! Peril and panic await within these pages as EC Comics and Oni Press unveil the final, awful truths of this CRUEL UNIVERSE—brought to you by some of today’s most brilliantly maniacal minds! Penned with awe and disbelief by the likes of Corinna Bechko, Cullen Bunn, and Amy Roy, and brought to terrible fruition by the limitless atomic collisions of the terribly talented artists Daniel Irizarri, Claire Roe and others. Rejoice, for within these pages, we have found the quantum equation for FEAR!
Corinna Bechko has been writing comics since her horror graphic novel Heathentown was published by Image/Shadowline in 2009. Since then she worked for Marvel, DC, Boom!, Image, and Dark Horse, among others, on titles such as Planet of the Apes, Star Wars: Legacy, Savage Hulk, Aliens/Vampirella, Invisible Republic, and Green Lantern: Earth One. She was recently short-listed for the Aeon Award for her prose short Sooterkin. She is a zoologist by training.
So this is the last issue of Cruel Universe. It’s kind of been a mixed bag and not as strong as Epitaphs- but every issue has had one story that I especially enjoyed (in this issue it was “the billionaire trust”) and the cover art has been really on point. Anyway looking forward to the next issue of Epitaphs with a holiday helping of Suspense Stories… and the launch of cruel kingdom in Jan 2025… seems timely…
And Cruel Universe goes out with maybe its strongest issue. BILLIONAIRE TRUST had the best art, INK SPOT TEST was quick, dirty, and mean—maybe the weakest story though. PARING KNIFE was a good concept of an obvious ending. Looking forward to Cruel Kingdom.
Real crap of a comic. Megawoke writer was hired to write 66% of it. The series as a whole had a few good moments, and was better than Epitaphs, but this is the last one I will buy
