Arturius: Twisted Tales of Familiar Faces

Rate this book
Can one man be the answer? In the spring of 490 AD, a relentless tide of invaders crashes over the lands once held by Rome. Those who resist are mercilessly slaughtered, while the unwilling flee to the western territories—lands even Rome failed to conquer.

Amidst the rugged, fog-shrouded hills, where ancient gods still whisper through the trees, the last free Britons find their champion in Arturius. A towering figure robed in the legacy of Roman purple and clad in the relics of his ancestors’ armor, he rallies his people.

To stand a chance against savage, battle-hardened enemies, Arturius must summon the spirit of the land itself and forge alliances with old foes. All while navigating the dark and mysterious forces lurking in the wilds of his homeland.

Arturius is a dark retelling of the King Arthur legend. This dark story is part of the Twisted Tales of Familiar Faces collection, featuring classic beloved characters twisted into terrifying nightmares.

Being a huge fan of King Arthur, druids, the knights, dragons, etc, this retelling was one of my very favorites of the Twisted Tales of Familiar Faces!
Arthur is not a king in this retelling, but he is leading his men and women into battle. The Gods guide him on several quests that he must prove himself in to ensure he can save his people from total destruction!
I LOVE all the Quests, the fantasy, and the storytelling. The change up in the characters from previous tellings was fun and interesting.
There is some gore, of course, being it is during war/battle. The lead up to the end is exciting, and then the big twist at the end seals the story off very nicely!
This definitely had moments that were completely devastating and satisfying to me once I grew to know the characters. I highly recommend this!

I seem to be making it a pattern by not knowing anything about the books I pick up. Sometimes, that's good. Other times, not so much. This is a King Arthur retelling, a tale of war and magic with the loss of friendship and love. While I enjoyed this tale, it was not one I would have typically chosen for myself.

Arturius sets out to save his people from a murderous clan, only to find trickery, deceit, loss and witchery. An excellent, unexpected twist at the end, gives this retelling of the Legend of King Arthur, a totally different aspect. Highly recommended.

This is a retelling of King Arthur. The writing is excellent, the characters are well developed and the plot is vivid, detailed and filled with bloody scenes. The twist at the end was one that I didn’t see coming.

An imaginative retelling of the King Arthur legend. It's a slow burn but stick with it because of the twist ending! Very well done.

A retelling of King Arthur's tales. Arturius is looked to be the savior of the kingdom. Arturius is the one to do battle with the enemies. A twist to the King Arthur and the round table tales.

This is the only one in the Twisted Tales series so far that I could not get into. Unfortunately this book is not for me.

This is an exceptional reimagining of the tale of king Arthur. Well written with excellent characters and a bold, bloody plot. You've never seen Arthur like this before! I always thought he seemed kind of boring, but this Arthur is definitely not!!
