One night. One kiss. That’s all it took for everything to change between them.
Dr. Nat Owens has come home to join her family’s medical practice. In the sleepy village, she struggles to be seen as a medical professional. Patients want her father. Staff go to her mother. Village residents respect her older brother. To everyone, she’s just the youngest Owens sibling. Even to the one man who she’s always dreamed of. Or so she thinks.
With the sexiest dimpled smile, Marine veteran Noah Wilson appears to be just the village’s handsome brewery owner. He protects and supports the community and people he loves, including his best friend’s younger sister. To the village she’s just Dr. Owens’ daughter, but to him, she’s his everything. A fact he won’t acknowledge until he decides to ignore all the reasons why she and him are a bad idea.
But is the village ready for this? Are their families? Are they?
A brilliant doctor returns to her hometown to prove that she’s more than just the younger sister in this Little Women inspired small town romance.
With a name like Melissa Whitney she had two choices become a Real Housewife or a romance author. Sorry Andy Cohen, she's chose romance!
A Jane Austen fangirl, Melissa hails from Western New York, but currently lives in Southern California with her husband and rescue pugs. When she's not brewing the perfect cup of tea, hunting for a delicious pastry, or traveling with her husband, she's writing swoony and steamy romance novels.
Melissa explores themes of disability, mental health, trauma, grief/loss, and family in her emotionally heartfelt and comedic stories. She often says, "Life isn't a romcom nor a high drama. It's somewhere in-between and so are my stories." As a legally blind woman and trauma survivor, Melissa taps into her own lived experience and her masters in social work to craft thoughtful/sensitive stories that delve into deeper themes, while still offering the swoon, steam, and humor that make us fall in love with a good romance.
This was another new author to me, but the story had really impressed me. Thank you so much for accepting me for this ARC, Melissa and Happily Booked Pr!
Natalie Owens was a young doctor who came back in town and was working alongside her parents. Noah was a war survivor who struggled with PTSD and was also best friend with Natalie's brother, Clayton.
Nat had a crush for Noah since she was a kid, but she didn't want to ruin the friendship her brother and Noah had. So, she had multiple relationships over the years, but neither of them were enough for her. That's because, unconsciously, she compared them to Noah, who was the only one that made her feel butterflies. Besides this romance part, Natalie was struggling with finding herself and with making the others accepting her as a doctor, being always in her father's shadow. In Noah's case, he was still having nightmares which haunted him and was still profoundly marked by the accident he had.
After Natalie tried and failed to give another shot with one of her exes (Duncan), Noah had realized that he had to fight for her and that was exactly what he did. Even though they were both afraid of their families reaction, especially Clayton's, they gave into their feelings and started a secret relationship. Will they be brave enough to face their families or will they just give up on what they had?
This story had a couple more sensitive subjects, like mental heath (PTSD), self acceptance and lost of a loved one. Natalie had the cutest and strongest support from Noah. He was her pillar, giving her strength and confidence to believe in her powers. On the other way, Nat was there to help Noah with his nightmares, as much as she could. This sweet mutual support was the part which melted my heart, feeling that angst, hurt and love.
It was a pretty emotional book, with many learning parts. Love and carrying can be healers in some cases.
Coming Home by Melissa Whitney is a fantastic & emotional romance that is Little Women inspired. It deals with some heavy topics such as grief, anxiety, PTSD & more, but it does it well & with grace. This was a beautiful story of reconnection, healing & learning to communicate along with so much more I don’t want to spoil.
This is book #2 in the Home series, but this is the first book I’ve read in this series & it can easily be read as a standalone.
Coming Home is great for those looking to read… 💙 Spicy Small Town Romance 💙 Little Women Inspired 💙 Doctor x Marine Vet/Brewery Owner 💙 Mental Health (PTSD) Representation 💙 Brother’s Best Friend
Melissa Whitney does an incredible job of showcasing disability & mental health in their work & I am so grateful for the representation. It was also lovely to watch the heroine come into her own as a doctor in the small town used to her father being the town doc. Both main characters have gone through so much & I loved watching their connection blossom again.
This is a wonderful small town romance with a lot of depth, emotions & heart. I highly recommend giving this author a read!
Massive thanks to the author & Happily Booked PR for the gifted copy, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.
This was a really good read but it just didn't hit me like I thought it would. Nat Owens returns to her small hometown to work alongside her dad in his medical practice. She’s ready to prove she’s more than just “Dr. Owens’ daughter,” but, of course, everyone still sees her as the little girl they used to know. Enter Noah Wilson, her brother’s best friend and a guy she’s had a crush on for years. Now a Marine-turned-brewery-owner, he’s the one person who really sees her for who she is—doctor and all.
The friends-to-lovers angle was great here, and it was fun watching their relationship evolve. There’s some slow-burn chemistry between them, and while there were moments when Nat’s character got a little frustrating (just a little), I still really enjoyed watching her grow and stand her ground. Noah, on the other hand, was a solid, swoon-worthy guy who was always there for her, and their dynamic worked really well.
The book also delves into some emotional depth with themes like PTSD and mental health, especially in how Nat and Noah support each other through their individual struggles. I liked how the story balanced romance with some real, honest moments about family and personal growth. The small-town drama was also nice to see—it wasn’t over the top, but just enough to keep things interesting.
Overall, this was a cute, easy read. If you're into friends-to-lovers stories with a little emotional weight, this one’s a good pick. It had a nice mix of romance, family dynamics, and a touch of angst without going overboard.
This was a really cute book. It was fun to read and I love the cover. Cartoon people are much better than real people!
The story was good and very well written. Can I point out that Melissa is legally blind and has absolutely smashed it with this book. I have so much respect and love for you Melissa!! I thought the story followed really well. There's no plot holes or any lingering questions after finishing my read of this one.
I loved the characters. Nat was a sweet lady. She has her issues but she smashed it. Noah. Oh my goddess what can I say. New book boyfriend number 5 of 2025. I'm really collecting them! He was so sweet and kind. He actually reminded me of my husband which was lovely. I adored all the side characters too! They were fun and worked well.
The book is written in third person from a single POV - Nat's. Would it have been nice to have Noah's POV too - absolutely! It didn't spoil that book or anything by not having it. Nat's POV only still worked really well.
I just want to point out that Noah's PTSD was written with such care and sensitivity. It was greatly appreciated. Thank you Melissa for writing about the subject with such respect.
I recommend this to romance lovers or if you want to read the genre for the first time, this would be a great start.
I absolutely love it. Coming back home after leaving for so many years is always hard and more when you are in the same profession as your father. So to make a name for yourself can be hard and challenging, but when you have the right people in your circle, you can conquer the world. When those around you lift you up and help you get through, it means the world. Plus, having a crush on someone you thought couldn't have can make you not want to be back. But life has other plans, and you need to push through to see it all unfold. Loved this story so much. It was so much fun seeing Nat get all she deserved♡
3.5 stars. This was a cute small town romance. It was missing a certain something to make it four stars, but I did enjoy it. Nat Owen's was a doctor who was excited to get home to her small town and work with her dad at their clinic.Unfortunately, everyone else still treats her like a little kid. Noah was a business owner in town, her brothers best friend and her longtime crush. The story was hard hitting at times dealing with grief. However, it was mostly heartwarming.
This is the second book I have arc read for this author and I love her books! They get me in my feels and there’s so many cute parts as well!
The MCs are adorable and I love their chemistry. They have known each other for most of their lives. She’s had a crush since she was a kid on him and it never went away
Did I mention before that the MMC is the FMC older brother?
I’m very grateful to have gotten an eARC of this book. Its a small town romance where the two characters have secret crushes on one another. He’s the older brothers best friend, I don’t want to spoil it but It covers grief and ptsd well and was overall a pretty good book.I wasn’t a fan of the third person narrative but thats just a personal preference that didn’t take away from it’s quality at all.
Honestly, I cried at the end of this book. It was sad, sweet, and just so healing. Just like the other Melissa Whitney books I’ve read, Coming Home really does an amazing job at depicting mental health struggles. I was sobbing as I read some parts of this book because, as an emotional person and reader, this book knew just where to hit me to make me fall in love with the characters. Dealing with the loss of a family member, plus some imposter syndrome-eque events…perfectly depicted and I loved every moment of this story. A great read, especially if you feel like you need some feels to feel :)
This was the first book that I read from this author and I will continue to read her books. I couldn't put this one down! It's a brother's best friend book, some tragic things happened in the past, and there's an ex boyfriend in here who doesn't take "no" for an answer.
I loved the "always been you" and "I stopped seeing you as a little sister a long time ago". I loved how the MMC always protected her and looked out for her even though he was fighting his true feelings for her. I loved how the family worked things out because they had a huge hole in their lives and they had to face it.
I can't wait to read more from this author! Great job!
“Elle, what do yellow gardenias mean?” “They’re the flowers for secret crushes or love.”
Plot: 4.5📍 Spice: 2.5❤️🔥 Overall: 4.5⭐
I swear, Ms. Whitney does the absolute best at writing the sweetest stories that are still a bit spicy! Her books seem to perfectly merge the emotional, sweet connection of a closed door romance, but with the loving, compassionate sensuality of an open-door one.
In book two of the Finding Home series, set in small town Perry, NY, two beautiful souls who are both fighting hidden demons and are the absolute best match for one another. Nat and Noah, Nat’s older brother’s best friend, have had a strong kinship from the get go, but watching them both (finally!) accept their feelings have genuinely, naturally grown into more and explore that connection was beautiful!
Nat is an incredible, smart, go-getter, however her self-doubt was something I struggled to relate to. I know I was absolutely blessed to have a mother and two amazing grandmothers who taught me the gentle art of “not giving a flying f-[udge].” (NGAFF). One who despite EVERY odds against her as a very young girl during the Great Depression still made it to college and thrived, the other a WWII wife whose husband served in the Pacific for literally years, understanding the necessity of NGAFF, and a mother who just OWNS who she is, wholly and unapologetically. So while I couldn’t relate to what I, personally, felt was a victim-mentality pity party, I loved, LOVED watching her finally accept herself for the amazing person any reader could see right from the get-go.
Suffering from both PTSD and (initially) survivor’s guilty inflicted during his time in the Marine Corps, Noah has held himself back from any and all relationships – but he’s willing to try for Dr. Natalie Owens. Sometimes, the biggest strength a person can show, is being vulnerable. And this green-flag-flying man is willing to be both the strong protector when necessary but also open-hearted and open-booked when appropriate.
One of the best messages in the story actually comes in the wrong form (and from the wrong person!) –
“You have to demand respect, not ask politely or remind quiet and hope people figure it out … people will miss [that you’re special] if you don’t show them you’re someone to be respected.”
The person delivering the line was referring to material “demanding,” dress, hair, makeup, etc. But it’s your actions that have to demand the respect. Your conversations. How you treat others. How you respond to situations. Poise and professionalism make a bigger, LASTING impact, than your clothes. (However, it will always be true you don’t wear the teensy mini skirt to the office. Erin Brockovich is the exception, not the rule!)
Thank you to Melissa Whitney & Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read and review this book! All opinions are my own.
NOT: As Ms. Whitney is legally blind and a huge advocate for accessibility to books for all, every book of hers will be narrated as well. At the time of this review, there is not a release date. However, keep checking back on the links above to see if it is available.
A best friend's brother love story and a small town mix romance. I think it's awesome to have a small town doctor's office run by the whole family. I believe Nat was misunderstood since she was the youngest sibling. She was treated like the baby for a long time and she had to stand on her ground. I also do believe she kept everything bottled up when she should be more honest about her feelings. I also believe she is closed up because losing her brother put too much on her and never stopped blaming herself for her death. Noah is a guy who has many scars from being a marine. He is a big warrior for not letting it bring him down. He is a good friend, loved by all around him, went for his dreams but a big scary cat when it comes to love. I was getting mad in the story when you could tell they both had a thing for each other. One of them needed to admit their feelings for one another. I'm glad it finally happened when he was protecting Nat from her crazy ex boyfriend. Their secret romance was adorable. The love they had fuming for each other was blossoming. No matter how many times Nat got mad with Noah. He was always patient with her and always found a way to make up for their arguments. He always brought her up and encouraged her for worth and dreams. They both brought each together up. Nat was Noah's comfort when it came to his PTSD. Noah was there when it came to her family drama, work drama, and sadness of the loss of her brother. I was happy to see towards the end that her father and her were more honest with each other about their feelings, about Evan her brother, how she felt being treated at the clinic. Her dad was supportive and understanding. It was funny reading about her brother Clayton walking in on Noah and Nat having sex. Even though he was mad because Noah was his best friend and Nat was his little sister. I'm glad he got his head out of his ass and was more accepting after. Their happy ending was sweet with all the family members being supportive about their relationship and then Noah asking Nat to move in with her. This is a great wholesome book. I recommend it and you should read it.

There has never been a book Melissa Whitney has written that I didn’t enjoy. Her ability to bring stories to life with real emotion and chemistry that leaps off the pages, brings her stories to life in an amazing way. The second book in her Home Series, she writes a lovely story of knowing what you want out of life, but not sure how to get it. How do you step out of the shadows when everyone keeps you there? The journey our MCs go on makes this book a great read.
Natalie has returned home to help with the family's medical practice, but is struggling finding her footing. In a small town, habits are hard to break and people want the people they have always gone to. She wants to make her mark, but isn’t sure how to do that. I loved Nat’s determined attitude, kind heart, and love she holds for her family. When her brother’s best friend shows back up, she can see something is brewing beneath the surface, but how can she show him he can trust her?
Noah suffers from PTSD from his former marine days. With the memories coming back nightly, he feels like he’ll never heal from the trauma. He is happy to have Natalie home and decides it’s time to fight for her attention. When they realize there is something there, they keep the relationship secret, not sure how their families will react. Noah is a wonderful MMC, who is loyal, big hearted, and resilient.
Melissa has always been able to capture human emotion with ease. I believe that is because of her having to view the world differently. I love the complexity she gives her characters, and even though her stories are light hearted and fun, real life topics always find their way in and round out the story in the best way possible.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

Thank you Melissa for letting me read this book ahead of the release date!
This is the first time I’ve read Melissa’s books and I’ll definitely be going back to read book 1!
All the characters in this story are so relatable. First we meet Dr. Natalie Owens who’s back in her hometown and working with her dad in the family owned clinic and trying to find a way from being under the family’s shadow. Next, we have Noah, who’s a former Marine turned business owner in their hometown.
I really love how the characters are so distinct - Nat is strong but doubts herself in a familiar environment but new role and Noah is her brother’s best friend whom she’s had a major crush on since she was a teen and that crush never went away becoming an adult. Then we’re also introduced to Nat’s family dynamics as well as Noah’s (their families are so close that their mothers are best friends!) and the family support is just heartwarming. Can’t forget our girl, Summer! She’s such a gem of a best friend! Can’t wait to read her story!
The push and pull between Nat and Noah is tangible as we go through the story and the way Noah supports Nat is *chef’s kiss*! How they come together to tackle grief and PTSD is beautifully handled.
Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read a somewhat spicy hallmark small town romance with a brother’s best friend who’s a golden retriever MMC . 💋

In *Coming Home*, the second book in the Home series, we follow Dr. Nat Owens as she returns to her quaint village, eager to prove herself beyond her family's legacy. But in a town that only sees her as Dr. Owens' daughter, Nat faces the challenge of carving out her own identity, especially when it comes to the affections of the charming Marine veteran, Noah Wilson.
This heartfelt small-town romance beautifully explores themes of family dynamics, self-discovery, and the complexities of love. I loved how the story delves into the struggles of being seen for who you truly are, rather than just a family name. Nat's journey is relatable and inspiring, showcasing her determination to step out of her family's shadow.
The chemistry between Nat and Noah is electric, and their relationship is not without its ups and downs, which adds depth to their connection. Their story is intertwined with meaningful themes of support and healing, including the importance of therapy, which I found incredibly refreshing.
The representation of LGBTQ+ relationships is handled with care, and I adored the subplot involving Elle and Cyon, culminating in a beautiful marriage that added an extra layer of warmth to the narrative.
With a fantastic start and a deeply meaningful ending, *Coming Home* left me feeling fulfilled and hopeful. This book is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of family.
Overall, I would rate this heartfelt read a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½! If you're looking for a story that combines romance, growth, and a touch of family drama, this is definitely one to pick up! 💖📚
We all had that one crush growing up that we thought about even as an adult. Melissa Whitney was about to write about that in Coming Home. But the reality of what Coming Home is about is about two people coming home to each other.
There have been a lot of books lately that have been giving me vibes of shows and Melissa did just that when she was writing Coming Home. If you are a fan of either Hart of Dixie or Virgin River, you will love this book from start to finish. Coming Home did have a serious tone with Mental Health and PTSD. As someone who has struggled with mental health, I appreciate how Melissa wrote about this very serious topic. She showed that there are good and bad days and there is no quick fix for Mental Health. It’s something you work on every day.
The romance in Coming Home had sweet and spice to it. I have to say how people found out about Nat and Noah made me laugh. Each person found out differently and how Nat’s brother found out was funny. The nice thing about Coming Home was there was no third act break up. Yes, there was a fight between Noah and Nat but it did not break them up. Later that night they talk and go through the fight like adults. Since I enjoyed Nat and Noah’s story so much I do hope this series continues with the telling of Summer and Todd’s relationship.
With all this goodness coming Home is a true 4-and-a-half-star read. Don’t worry about it being too sweet as it has 3 peppers on the Spice Level.
I really think everyone should pick up Coming Home and if you have Kindle Unlimited there is good news. Coming Home is part of the membership. If you use this link to get a copy you will be helping support the site.
Melissa Whitney has done it again with Coming Home! Nat and Noah’s story was everything I hoped for and more—a perfect blend of heartwarming romance, personal growth, and small-town charm.
Nat is such a relatable and strong character, struggling to find her place in her hometown while stepping out of her family’s shadow. Watching her navigate the challenges of being “Dr. Owens’ daughter” rather than just Dr. Nat Owens was so rewarding. Her determination to be taken seriously as a professional while managing her complicated feelings for Noah had me rooting for her every step of the way.
And then there’s Noah. Oh, Noah. The former Marine turned brewery owner might just be my favorite hero Melissa Whitney has written yet. His quiet strength, loyalty, and the way he supports Nat without overshadowing her made my heart melt. The slow-burn romance between them was everything! From that unforgettable kiss to their undeniable chemistry. The push-and-pull dynamic, paired with Noah’s respect for Nat’s independence, made their love story feel authentic and earned.
This book gave me all the feels—laughs, swoons.I can confidently say that Melissa Whitney has cemented herself as an auto- read author for me. If you’re looking for a heartfelt small-town romance with unforgettable characters and a love story that will stay with you long after the last page, Coming Home is an gem.
Okay, friends, let’s talk about this heartwarming gem that’s officially stolen my heart!
Nat Owens is back in her sleepy hometown, ready to prove she’s more than just “Dr. Owens’ daughter” or “the youngest Owens sibling.” And honestly, watching her stand her ground and claim her space was SO satisfying. She’s smart, strong, and relatable (even if she made me want to shake her a couple of times—lovingly, of course).
And Noah Wilson? OH. MY. GOODNESS. The dimpled Marine-turned-brewery-owner is now my official book boyfriend. He’s caring, loyal, and knows how to show up for Nat in the most swoon-worthy ways. That slow-burn chemistry between them? Perfection! Every stolen glance, every meaningful moment had me hooked.
This book gave me ALL the feels—love, laughter, a bit of small-town drama, and even some emotional depth with themes like family dynamics and PTSD. Melissa Whitney nailed the friends-to-lovers vibe without overdoing the miscommunication (THANK YOU).
What do I love most? The journey. Nat and Noah’s story felt so authentic—messy, sweet, and oh-so-satisfying. Add in the cozy, small-town charm, and a sprinkle of Little Women parallels (Christian Bale as Laurie, anyone?), and this book had me smiling from start to finish.
If you love small-town romance, friends-to-lovers goodness, and characters who feel like family, Coming Home needs to be on your TBR.
Tropes: -small-town romance -secret romance -forbidden romance -age-gap romance -friends to lovers -brother's best friend -cinnamon roll MMC -FMC is a doctor -mental health rep
This was such a sweet story full of emotional healing. Although it dealt with themes of grief and PTSD, at the core, it was a friends-to-lovers romance. After enjoying At First Smile by Melissa Whitney, I was excited to explore another of her works, and I was not disappointed. This book was excellent.
Natalie is a doctor who returns to her small hometown to work at her family’s clinic. Throughout the story, she grapples with feelings of inadequacy and a desire for acceptance, particularly in comparison to her father. Additionally, she is confronted with her childhood crush, which reignites feelings she never fully let go of.
Noah is a veteran coping with PTSD who tends to keep to himself. He is also the best friend of Clayton, Natalie’s brother. Noah has secretly harbored feelings for Natalie for years but never acted on them due to their age difference and his perception of not being good enough for her.
I enjoyed watching these two navigate their evolving relationship. Noah greatly supports Natalie, encouraging her and loving her unconditionally. This book is filled with deep emotions.
I adored this story and can’t wait to read more from this author. She has a talent for crafting beautiful narratives. This book is available on KU, and I hope you read it and love it as much as I did.
Quotes: “They’re the flowers for secret crushes or love.”
“Guilt is a powerful master. It not only keeps us locked in, but when we finally escape, it pulls us back in time and time again. I wish I could take the pain away from you so you didn’t hurt like this anymore, but I can’t…What I can do is share it with you. Let me share your sadness, your struggles, your happiness, your laughter…let me be here with you and for you.”
This is a new to me author, and I am excited to read more of her books! I didn’t realize this was the second in a series until I got into it, but that is not an issue. It is definitely a stand alone read just fine…but now I really want to go read the first because those characters are in this book too! I loved Nat and Noah’s story. The older brother’s little sister plot was hot hot hot. Noah was such a great male lead. I really liked Nat too, trying to find her place in her home town as the little sister, the doctor’s daughter. There were some tough subjects covered in this one, loss of a sibling….PTSD. All handled very well and definitely added depth to the “typical” romcom plot. There was just one thing that really rubbed me wrong…and it was Nat saying “Oh goddess” and saying that God was a woman. If it was just a comment in passing, I could have looked past it. But it was constant throughout the book, and it felt silly and immature. It really distracted me from the reading when it was thrown in constantly. That was a nit-picky thing of mine, and it might not bother others.
Bottom Line: Read it! I can’t wait to see what else this author has out there!
**I received an ARC from Happily Booked and Book Funnel and am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.**

I was gifted this arc by Happily Booked PR and Melissa Whitney. I am so glad I took this one bc it was everything. From The Little Women quotes to the crying I did, it was perfect in my eyes. It had every emotion and I felt them all deeply. There were way too many quotes for me to choose from and I had a really hard time picking. 😂
Noah was Nat’s bothers best friend and they fought feelings for each other until tension was tight. When that tension broke, it was fast and hot and beautiful. They both fought a lot of guilt about tragedies that happened in their lives and, together they worked to over come that guilt.
This story was raw and edgy and beautiful. If you love bothers best friend, small town, military, and a golden retriever mmc, this book is 100% for you. 😭😭 Buy it now on Amazon or read on Kindle Unlimited!
“Is Dr. Owens coming in, dear?” “I am Dr. Owens.” Same old same old, if truth be told . The patients respect her dad and the staff her mum ,even her brother gets aplomb ,praise from the villagers and their ways but they all are doctors. Even her the youngest but she’s all but ignored most of the time . She is just the Owen’s youngest sibling ,no rivalry ,as no one knows she even exists to compare except maybe Noah’ll care. It’s just not fair. Marine ,Noah Wilson is a veteran ,he’s seen some things ,and he’s suffered through them , but one thing he knows when she’s around ,his heart sings . Despite all that goes against their union. The best friend’s brother vibe and all. He’ll bide his time until one day he will say enough is enough and take this brilliant doctor in his arms anyway and say stuff it, I’m taking it all. Come what may, she’s going to be his one day and when that day dawns, his heart will shine and he will be ready for a love so divine , welcome it in with one almighty grin ,not a grimace in sight that’s the premise for this delightful story made up of a few tough and a mostly rough times of it thus far. But this beautiful lady will be his . Brilliantly penned by Melissa Whitney ,an awesome book. Beautiful storytelling and tropes to build hopes upon . Very well done with empathy for the subject matter in hand.
Three books in and I can confidently say Melissa has a way of pulling me into her stories! 😍
You know that feeling when a book just wraps around you like a cozy blanket? That’s exactly what Coming Home felt like!
From the very start, I was rooting for Nat. Coming back to her small town should have been easy—it’s home, right? But instead, she’s stuck in the shadow of her family, trying to prove she’s more than just the little Owens girl.
And then there’s Noah. Oh. My. Heart. This man...🥺 The quiet, protective, stubborn man who has always been there, always cared, but convinced himself she was off-limits.
The tension, the longing, every little moment between them had me absolutely hooked. The slow-burn? Top-notch! There’s just something about a love story where both people know deep down, but life and their own stubbornness keep getting in the way.
But what made this story even more special? ✨ The relationships beyond the romance. ✨ Noah and Clayton’s bond? Absolutely loved it. ✨ The small-town dynamics? So well done. ✨ And the Little Women vibes? Strong family ties, expectations, and figuring out where you truly belong—it all made the story even richer.
This book reminds us that home isn’t just a place—it’s the people who love you for exactly who you are.
If small-town romance, deep emotions and the best kind of slow burn are your thing, you need to read this book 📖
Coming Home is book two in the Home romance series. Nat Owens went away for med school and came back to town to help her dad run his practice. Coming back home as a doctor isn’t all she thought it would be. It’s going to take some work to be taken seriously as a professional instead of the little girl everyone used to know. Noah Wilson is Nat’s brother’s best friend and the guy she’s had a crush on for years. He is also one of the few people who sees Nat for who she is, doctor and all. Will their friendship cross the line into something more? Will one kiss change everything between them for the better?
I enjoy a good friends to lovers romance and I found this one to be cute and easy to read. I loved Noah and thought he was great for Nat. The chemistry between the two was perfect and I loved seeing their friendship progress as they finally admitted what they both had wanted for years. At time Nat got on my nerves, but she was still an enjoyable character. I haven’t read the first book in this series so this was my first time meeting everyone and getting to know the town, but I don’t think I was lost. Overall this was a good friends to lovers romance and I might just need to go back and check out the first book in this series.
Once again, Melissa has been written a story for me to get sucked into completely. I have been half hearted into books lately, not fully feeling but her writing always takes hold of me completely.
I can feel the tension between Nat and Noah from the beginning, I am analyzing every interaction. Even with Duncan, I could feel it was not quite right while it was happening.
Melissa makes me love friends to lovers stories; the secret childhood crush, always paying attention, and some mild miscommunication to get to where they need to be. NOT a miscommunication trope (ew). It’s always something unsaid and glances misinterpreted, kinda like real life!! Ugh I love it
I also love all the values the Owens and Wilson’s have. I love how caring and observant Noah is, how he always says “I got you” and shows her how special she is *swoon*
I love the non-romance content and foreshadowing as well. Nat and the real Dr. Owens drama, the PTSD representation, Liam’s autism, Summer and Todd. It all blends together so nicely. I feel like I am a part of the town of Perry
The little women quotes and parallels are also super fun in this one. I always had a crush on Christian Bale as Laurie
Her books are like therapy, healing me one page at a time
My return to Perry was just as delightful as my first visit. Much like the first book in the Home Series, COMING HOME feels like a warm hug with just the right amount of steam. I’ve been anticipating this book since meeting Nat and Noah in Melissa Whitney’s FINDING HOME.
COMING HOME is a small town, brother’s best friend romance that hits all the right notes. The main characters are truly likable as individuals and a couple. I’m not usually a fan of the age gap trope, but Ms. Whitney handles the ten year difference in a way that removes any discomfort. She also tackles serious topics like PTSD, grief, and relationship abuse with gentleness and sensitivity.
In addition to the romance component, the absolute best part of this book is being reunited with the good citizens of Perry. COMING HOME can easily be read as a standalone, but my experience was enhanced by reading the first book in the series where I fell in love with the extended cast of characters. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series to see what the future holds for Summer and Todd, and catch up with the rest of my friends.
Thanks to the author and Happily Booked PR for the gifted book. All opinions are my own.
This is Book 2 of The Home Series and my goodness... how on Earth did this book make me cry?
Melissa, I applaud you 👏!
The story follows Dr Nat and Noah - 2 individuals linked by years of family history, sibling friendship, and trauma.
Dr Nat has arrived home after becoming a doctor to work with her Dad at the family surgery but is struggling with 'small town' mentality.
After being discharged from the military, Noah, too, is battling his own demons while taking the rural business world by storm.
Both are constantly in each other's lives via Nat's brothers Clayton and Evan.
Oh my goodness, what a hard-hitting book this was - funny, heart-warming, and an emotional roller-coaster!
We do cover quite a lot of really important topics too, though, which is great to see: grief, lack of facilities in rural areas, autism and PTSD are just a few. The way Melissa approaches these topics has been done so sensitively, with each just seamlessly roll into the story, and it is very apparent that a great deal of research has been done.
I will definitely be going back to Book 1 to catch up and can't wait for the next instalment.
I loved this heartwarming, small-town romance. It was so rewarding walking through Nat and Noah's journey with them from beginning to end. I loved they way the past was brought up in a way that filled in a lot of gaps without feeling like an "info-dump." Noah struggles with things from his past military career that have affected who he is. Nat struggles with stepping out of her Dad's shadow. He was the only doctor in their sleepy little town until she became the "other" Dr Owens. She's lived her whole life as a daughter or little sister, and she loves her family deeply, but she's tired of not being taken seriously. I loved watching Nat embrace who she really is, and Noah encouraging her to be her goofy, happy self while still being brave enough to speak up about what she wants. Especially him. He was supposed to be off-limits. He was her older brother's best friend throughout their entire lives, and she didn't want to risk any of their relationships.
Nat was honestly so relatable in a lot of ways. The love and grief written throughout this book were so real and beautiful. And Noah was pretty perfect. Sweet and protective. Caring and insightful.

I really enjoyed this story! This was my first Melissa Whitney read, and it was a winner! This is a small town, friends to lovers story between childhood friends Nat and Noah. Nat is a smart, successful doctor trying to make a name for herself. I found her character very relatable as she struggles with getting out from behind her fathers shadow at the family medical practice. She is strong and determined as she finds her way while also navigating long-time family grief. What I love most is that Nat’s independence is never down played by Noah, in reality he embraces it. Noah is an ex-Marine turned small town business owner, while also being best friends with Nat’s older brother. He struggles with PTSD, but has worked very hard to move forward since the service. Noah is a true book boyfriend! He constantly supports, listens, and encourages Nat. With every action, he shows Nat how much he loves her for her. The little bit of slow burn was a tease!(I felt like the twins in It Takes Two “Just Kiss Already!”) However, Whitney brings them together in such a mature, seamless, and sexy way that it's worth the little wait! The way the MC’s communicate and support each other gave me all the feels… and don’t even get me started on their chemistry!🔥🔥
I often prefer a dual POV style of writing, and I very much wanted to know more about Noah’s POV. However, I still greatly enjoyed this story and look forward to more Melissa Whitney books!👏
