Before the age of 27, Ning Zhiyuan’s name was Cen Zhiyuan. His family was wealthy, and he possessed both capability and means. With ambitious aspirations, he single-mindedly aimed to compete with his elder brother, who was the designated successor of the family business. This continued until a paternity test overturned everything.
As it turned out, from the very beginning, he didn’t even have the qualifications to compete.
With this change in identity, the first person to extend a helping hand to him was none other than his elder brother, whom he had always found disagreeable and incompatible.
Cen Zhisen had always felt that, aside from having a good-looking face, his younger brother had no likable qualities. He was overly competitive, scheming, and frivolous. From childhood to adulthood, their relationship had always been at odds, deteriorating to the point of hostility over the family inheritance. However, when he saw the usually composed man, upon learning about his true parentage, suppress red eyes and briefly reveal a moment of confusion and helplessness, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy.
His s*xual orientation leaned towards men. The former Cen Zhiyuan was his unpleasant younger brother, and now Ning Zhiyuan… Having restrained those confrontations and sharp edges, he was surprisingly appealing.
—He became the object of his interest.

My next complaint is about the faux incest. At first, it’s emphasized that they’re estranged brothers. They didn’t grow up together, and when they met again, the dynamics was pure rivalry. The paternity test surfaced, and they’re proven to be not biologically-related. All okay.
However, as the story progresses, the emphasis shifts to them being brothers. Zhiyuan keeps referring to Zhisen as his brother, and gradually remembering the good things about their childhood. He clearly has a brother complex, and until the point I was reading, it's not clear if he really feels something for Zhisen, or if he’s simply obsessed and prefers any attention instead of “being ignored.” This is where it gets uncomfortable for me.
Zhisen, the "older brother", also made his move so fast after the paternity test. I think it was within 1-2 months when he started to get attracted to Zhiyuan. I'm also not exactly clear what triggers the change (it's also not clear for Zhiyuan, because he asked about it, too). It almost seems as if their feelings have developed even before they knew they weren't related. Anyway, as they keep reminiscing the past and the story continues with the boring narrative, I think it's safer for me to just DNF this.
Fan translation quality: it's pretty readable, but inaccurate. Not sure if this is an edited mtl, or the translator doesn't understand English/Chinese language structure, because the translation sometimes states something opposite of what I get from the context. Also, when we get to the smut scene, they confuse the c*ck with the cr*tch. 🤦🏻♀️
Wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did, but the UST between the main characters was some of the best I've read in ages. I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship, but once they got together, it was less interesting as a lot of that UST went away.
The premise is that our MC, Cen Zhiyuan, is the younger son in the successful Cen business family and has always had a bit of an obsession with and competed fiercely against his older brother, Cen Zhisen, for everything . Unfortunately, all of his efforts went to waste after he realized that due to a mistaken baby swap, he's not actually part of the Cen family but actually was born to the Ning family. He then distances himself away from the Cen family a bit and changes his name to Ning Zhiyuan.
After Zhiyuan leaves the family, his relationship with Cen Zhisen actually improves as he no longer feels the need to compete against Zhisen, and the misunderstandings they had between them are slowly resolved. Zhi Yuan realizes that a lot of the ill will he holds towards his Cen Zhisen actually stems from the insidious words of other relatives when they were kids, who took advantage of their young age to turn the two siblings against each other. A lot of their conversations center around the past, and both MC and ML can get closure on each other's past actions.
Initially, Ning Zhiyuan accepts the ML's chase not out of mutual interest, but because he wants to have more leverage over the ML. The build up of their relationship was amazing, as it's a constant push and pull between them and you wonder who's really chasing who. This is an excerpt from the story that describes it perfectly:
The only person he cared about and even had an obsession with was Cen Zhisen.
Longing for this brother, and hating the unfairness he suffered because of him, competing with him, snatching from him, trying to win over him, and wanting to be seen in his eyes.
When Cen Zhisen personally uncovered his origins, most of his frustration came from being "abandoned" by Cen Zhisen.
Without this brotherly relationship, he lost all reasons to chase after this person.
The desire to go to a foreign place to find himself was just an excuse. Only he knew that he had already fallen into the abyss of despair.
Fortunately, just before drowning, he managed to grasp another lifeline.
His brother, who had developed an inappropriate affection for him.
He had known early on that Cen Zhisen liked men. Confused, non- understanding, and even resentful, he never thought that after their relationship changed, Cen Zhisen would silently pursue him.
He didn't reject it; he was even pleased.
In the relationship between him and Cen Zhisen, he was no longer completely at a disadvantage. If this was what Cen Zhisen wanted, he was willing to cooperate.
Playing ambiguous games for him was like picking up something within arm's reach. All the push and pull, the back and forth, were all within his calculations.
But it was not enough.
He wanted to see Cen Zhisen lose control, lose composure, lose his calmness, just these were not enough.
Initially it's not clear how much Ning Zhiyuan obsessed over his brother, but as it slowly comes out you're like, that's definitely not normal. From early on, he hired people to follow his brother and take pictures of him so that he knew what his brother was up to, and that's how he found out his brother was gay as well. He even tried dating men because he didn't want to "lose" to his brother in this respect. For Ning Zhiyuan, his brother was always special, in one form or another.
Another thing I liked about this story was that because the MC and ML are both older (MC and 27 and ML and 30), they don't act like immature kids anymore and approach everything with a more mature attitude. That was also a pleasant surprise.
My main problem was the story was that Cen Zhisen's interest in the MC seemed to start as soon as he found out they're not real brothers. That's a real quick turnaround there buddy...
estuvo muy interesante esta historia, me gusto muchisimo la narrativa, todo se sentia tan romantico y erotico al mismo tiempo! senti que le falto algo mas, pero aun asi, es una buena novela y se lee muy rapido <3
