This is the third title of a four title set on seasons with the winter title yet to come. I enjoyed the other two, but I really loved this one as it has beautiful fall colors in the very stylized illustrations. The fall activities are the ones I really remember and cherish from long ago childhood.
This book, part of a series on the four seasons, is easy on the eyes and pleasing to the senses. The same child from the previous book, When Spring Comes, glories in the pleasures of time spent outdoors with her family and dog as the leaves turn from green to brighter colors. She says goodnight to the same groundhog she greeted in the spring, gathers bits of nature to collect, harvests pumpkins, rakes leaves, picks apples, enjoys a meal made from what the family has gathered, and then settles down for family game night since it's growing too chilly to stay outside for long. The language used in this story is melodic, comforting, and brings a sense of ease to readers as do the illustrations, which use colors associated with the season. The back matter includes a "Can You Find..." activity featuring 18 different objects or living things that encourage readers to reread the book, something that can help them to slow down and pay more attention to each page.
3.8 Stars When Autumn Comes by Ekaterina Trukhan is a delightful picture book that is part of the My Favorite Season series. It celebrates the beauty and activities of Fall.
What I Liked: The text is simple and appropriate for its target audience. The illustrations are the star of the book; their beautiful, warm seasonal colors bring the autumn vibes to life. At the end of the book, there's a "Can You Find?" page with various objects for young readers to look for throughout the book. I appreciate a bonus activity that helps readers connect with the book.
I highly recommend When Autumn Comes for its beautiful illustrations and engaging bonus activity, which make it a wonderful read for young children.
This gentle picture book perfectly captures the essence of the season. Illustrated in soft, autumnal tones, it has a muted warmth that makes every page feel cosy and inviting. A little girl explores the delights of autumn – chasing falling leaves, collecting pine cones and conkers, and picking apples – simple activities that celebrate the beauty of nature’s changes. When Autumn Comes is an ideal seasonal read for young children with a 'did you spot' page containing small items to discover throughout the book. Autumn is my favourite season and this book reflects the colours of the countryside and the slowing down of nature during this time.
This colorful picture book is a must-read for the little ones in your life.
"When autumn comes...the leaves are changing color on the trees. I put on my pom-pom hat and run outside to play."
In this fun read, we follow along as a little girl and her dog say goodbye to summer and enjoy fall activities such as apple picking and raking leaves.
I think this is a great book for anyone who is sad that summer is ending. It provides the reader with great examples of how to best enjoy the fall season.
I received a gifted copy of this book from Nosy Crow. All opinions are my own.
