10 books61 followersChris A. Bennett grew up on the shores of Klamath Lake in southeastern Oregon. For a young boy it was a dream world of water, hills, forests, and abundant wildlife. His love for action and adventure morphed into a lifelong love for books when his Mom read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to the family on a long road trip.
It was routine and normal for the family dinner table discussions to involve history, politics, and anything interesting going on in the world. So, when he attended the University of Oregon it seemed perfectly natural (and easy) to study history and political science. But everyone said you couldn't make a living in those fields, so he decided to try his hand at Computer Science. He's been writing professionally, in the software development business for more than 35 years now.
However, Chris's thirst for adventure never faded and he began to live out his love of history onto the pages of his first book, Road to the Breaking. Once he started writing he just couldn't stop and the result is The Road to the Breaking series; an epic journey across a young nation seething with debauchery, brutality, corruption, and political intrigue, unwittingly on the brink of an unimaginable disaster: the American Civil War.
Chris currently lives near Seattle with his wife Patricia. His three adult children Nick, Rachel, and Josh also live in the Puget Sound area.

Excellent events well written but a lot of writing detailing emotional content
Mr. Bennett is an excellent author in event descriptions and inter weaving fictional content. But he devotes an excess of description on emotions and personal characteristics. I also felt he over did the amount of content in writing devoted to the travels from Boston to Quebec. Granted it was a monumental and difficult trip. But I’d estimate +20% of book was devoted to it, for me it was too detailed. Still good author.

Road to Revolution is the start of another excellent historical fiction series by Chris Bennett, author of Road to Breaking. The initial book introduces us to the Chambers family from the Virginia colonies in 1775. The first chapter is one of the most riveting I’ve read in years. A serious accident with life changing results changes the lives of everyone in the family, especially 17 year old Ethan. He has to become a “man” overnight.
The chance encounter with the man who rescued his father leads Ethan towards a path he could never have imagined. The impending war of independence from Britain overshadows everything. Ethan’s need to provide for his family causes him to join forces Daniel Morgan, a soon to be hero of the revolutionary war.
The story evolves from there as their company makes their way to Massachusetts colony to join forces with General Washington and other like minded men wanting to be rid of England’s yoke. Their adventures and the deprivations they experience make for compelling reading. It is impossible to imagine the difficult conditions they face and how they overcome both success and failure as they try to fulfill their mission.
This is a well written narrative about the early days of the fight for independence and the different ways many people contributed. It highlights how difficult it was to bring together the different regions of the potential new country.

The readers are introduced to the ancestors of Nathan Chambers, the heroic character we met in the Civil War series, Road to The Breaking. The story begins in the year 1775 with Ethan Chambers at his Winchester home in Virginia colony.
When his father Gideon experiences a tragic accident Ethan is suddenly forced into being the man of the family. The storyline follows the main character through a journey that takes him from Virginia into Canada when he is involved in the American attack on Quebec City. Ethan is taken under the wing of Daniel Morgan, the famous leader of a company of Virginia riflemen. He becomes a member of the Continental army and begins an adventure that will have him cross paths with the likes of George Washington and Benedict Arnold, among other historical individuals involved in the American Revoloution.
The historical background is accurately maintained throughout the narrative. The physical description of the terrain set in colonial Maine,Fort Ticonderoga, Lake Champlain. and Canada, including Quebec City and the St. Lawrence River are meticously, and thoroughy described.
I highly recomend The Road to Revolution to all readers, especially those who enjoy historical fiction with characters such as Ethan Chambers, who smoothly interact with famous real life people! I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment to the series!

When I heard that this author was starting a new series before finishing his previous one (Road to the Breaking), I was surprised and a bit apprehensive. For some reason I thought this series might be rushed or not as well fleshed out because the author is in the middle of writing the last book of the Road to the Breaking series. Well, I didn't have to worry. I thoroughly loved this book and finished it within a day of starting it! The characters are excellently written and the historical context is well-written and easy to follow. I think I may even like this book a bit more than the first book of the Road to the Breaking series because it throws the reader straight into the action rather than the slow build-up of Road to the Breaking. Chris Bennett remains on my short list of authors whose books I NEED to read AS SOON as they come out.

An excellent account of early actions of the revolution and its main characters
I really appreciated the straightforward and precise writing of this author. In creating a fictional character embedded into so many real ones and the true actions of the Continental Army written so clearly, he has created a novel that teaches and entertains immensely. As a teacher of Am. History this book was hard to put down and teaching me more than just raw facts. The sacrifices these men made for the idea of a country never ceases to amaze me. They were all truly heroes is every sense.

A well written Historical Fiction that seamlessly blends fictional characters with actual people from history. The writer makes these fictional characters come alive and they interact with the actual people . The storyline has 17 year old Ethan Chambers joining Morgan's Volunteer Group of Virginia frontiermen, at Morgan's request, and traveling to Boston, to join the Continental Army. The story follows Ethan and Morgan's Volunteers as they trek north to Canada to attack and capture Quebec.

For me, got off to slow start taking number of chapters if I would continue reading. However, interest held better after march to Canada got started. Good weaving history within the novel. Now looking for

Enjoyed the tale, not many books cover the early years of the rebellion. Action was detailed but please next time put the maps in the beginning of the book!
