The sword that consumes.
The encroaching darkness.
The waning Barrier.

Sainte, with his newly acquired sword, and his acquaintance Thedios set off to gather an army. One that can take on the forces of the Abomination and Malignin. However, as they travel Crearia they find that the Abomination seems to be just one step ahead of them.
Across the lands, Nadrian, Peng, Kial, and Seltrin have a similar idea. The men leave Precipeak to bring more people back with them. It doesn’t take them long to realize that the Malignin are gathering forces of their own.

The lovely, miserable Sainte, a prince, a drunk, and a donkey. My favorites in the grand finale of The Severance Trilogy. You also can't forget the epic final battle against the Malignin. This read like a redemption tale that wrapped up with a nice little bow at the top. It didn't feel nearly as dark as the previous two books, but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I still give the entire trilogy 5 stars.

This final book of The Severence Trilogy did not let down from the other two novels. I gave it 5 stars and the entire trilogy is five stars. I learned more about the White Wyverns, how the Malignins came to be, who use to be the Shield and can anything stop the Abomination. It was very satisfying.

Grim Dark lovers and those who want to read grim dark for the first time should grab this trilogy.

I want to thank the author, Daniel Wiebe, for an early copy of his e-book. I will be getting a physical copy for by bookshelf.

This was a great finish to the series!

We’re introduced to a lot of new characters but we also get to see some familiar faces, one I was very surprised to see.
I was also surprised at how many times I laughed and cried while reading and I don’t cry often over books but the writing is so descriptive and well done it feels like you’re there fighting for your life while having to watch your friends die.

Theres fighting, alliances and betrayal what more could you ask for?

This one is definitely the most action packed and emotional of the three and I loved every page! If you loved how dark and gory the first book was then you’ll be obsessed with Blade of the Knight.

I have no notes, 5/5 best book I’ve ever read, ever!

Just a man and his sword…

Doesn’t seem like much when the fate of the entire world hangs in the balance, does it? But Sainte Nore is no more an ordinary man than his sword is an ordinary blade. Imbued with the ability to transfer the lifeforce of its victims to the man who wields it, it gives Sainte a temporary boost to his own strength and ability to heal, and according to the mysterious White Wyverns, it is the key to destroying the evil King Zith and his army of Malignin, including the seemingly unstoppable Abomination. If only Sainte can get close enough to use it before the White Wyverns run out of patience and pull the trigger on the ultimate solution—The Severance.

Sure, it would put a quick end to Zith and his minions, but it will also put an end to everyone else on the planet.

With literally nothing left to lose, Sainte is encouraged by his new traveling partner, Thedios, to build an army from surrounding towns and regroup at Precipeak, where efforts are already underway to refortify the defenses of the colony after it barely survived the attack that concluded Book 2, The Shadow of Malignin. Meanwhile, Nadrian, a White Wyvern who has elected to remain with the people of Precipeak, approaches Peng and Seltrin, a former Blade, about making their own pilgrimage to enlist volunteers for Sainte’s homegrown army. Time as of the essence as Zith and his Malignin have fallen ominously silent, preparing in the shadows for an epic, final showdown, and the White Wyverns might not be patient enough to await its resolution. The Severance, their ultimate nuclear option, remains on the table and is very popular amongst their ranks…

Chapters interpolate between the viewpoints of our two teams of recruiters, each encountering obstacles at every turn. Wiebe allows the tension to slowly build as Sainte’s army grows like twin tumbleweeds set to converge into a single force to be reckoned with at Precipeak. As word of Sainte’s progress spreads, sightings increase of the Malignin as well as of the bloodthirsty cultists of Zith, ensuring that no one is completely safe as time is quickly running out.

Thrilling final entry to Wiebe’s grimdark trilogy really brings it all together in spectacular fashion. Loaded with action and plenty of gore that somehow manages to avoid being gratuitous, Blade of the Knight provides satisfactory and, at times, unexpected resolution for the wide canvas of characters who have populated this apocalyptic trio of dark tales, each one better than its predecessor. The deliberate pacing invokes a sense of dread while giving us insight into each character’s motivation, and never let it be said that grimdark has no sense of humor—the addition of a mischievous donkey (with a name that says it all) provides moments of much-needed levity to proceedings that feel exceedingly hopeless at times—and yet, holding onto that tiny glimmer of hope is the only thing that keeps Sainte Nore and his army of survivors moving forward.

After all, without hope, what’s the point in living at all?

They say the third act is the hardest, which I reckon applies to the third book in a trilogy too. But if it's true, you wouldn't know it from this one. This is outstanding.

The final entry in The Severance Trilogy brings together everything good about the previous books. The action is fast-paced and intense, the violence is gloriously gruesome, and the world building is fascinating.

Sainte's arc progresses as he battles his past, his troubling new connection with a magical sword, and the heavy weight of his responsibility. And it's rounded off in a supremely satisfying way.

It has the same dark, violent tone as the previous books, but Weibe has mastered integrating that into the plot. It never feels like it's for shock value; every decapitation and disembowelment is there to demonstrate a point.

There's a fight scene in an inn in the first act which is the best piece of action I've read in a long time, and there's one character death in particular that really hits in the feels.

The conclusion is epic in scale, yet sufficiently focused, with all the malignin slicing and dicing you could ask for.

And "Ass", the cantankerous donkey, might just be my spirit animal.

For the sake of balance, I feel the need to find at least one complaint in every review, so there's a minor plot twist that falls a little flat. But, honestly, that's really nitpicking.

An excellent conclusion, and the best book of the series. Highly recommended, so long as you don't mind a little (a lot) of gore and violence.

A huge thanks to Daniel Weibe for allowing me to read an advanced copy

What a finale! The Severance Trilogy got better with each book. This one brings the dark saga to a satisfying conclusion.

There are many characters I just love -- Seltrin, Iris, Thedios...and the donkey whose name might flag my review if I say it! While I felt the middle portion of the book dragged on a bit, it did allow the characters time to develop through their journeys and conversations.

I'll admit -- I haven'r been the biggest fan of the main hero Sainte. But the book does right by him and draws his adventures to a close in a great way.

It was great to see Wiebe's development as an author with each book and I'm on board for whatever comes next in this world!
