The Iron Fey Series Collection, by Judith Kagawa. The Iron Fey Series Collection comes five books. The titles in this set are: The Lost Prince, The Iron Knight, The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, The Iron Queen.
I enjoyed reading this series a lot. The main plus points are: 1) the detailed, well made fantasy world 2) lot of action Really, these books are anything but boring. Of course, there are some typical faults as in many similar books: ancient beings speaking (contemporaly!) English, heroes surviving dozens of clearly deadly situations despite the odds, teenagers saving the world while the adults are totally innept, etc. But that's nothing to hold against. What I had a problem with was the main character, Meghan Chase. I had problems in getting to like her. At the beginning, she's your typical teenager (means "a whinning brat"), I really wanted to smack her a few times. Poor mother. Especially as the girl leaves home for long time periods and never calls or sends a "I'm alive and O.K." message when she has the opportunity. But since these books are probably intended for teenage readers, they can probably well identify with the character. What was worse, the girl was often dumb as a brick. Sometimes it took her so long to get the idea, I got that "like to smack" feeling again :-) For example: Robbie being in love with her (obvious since beginning), why was her boyfriend giving her a cold shoulder in Iron Daughter, using gremlins, and finding out the identity of the false Iron king. All she had to do was to ask, there were several hints later. But no :-(. This was obviously illogical and made her look stupid.
What really get to me was the sheet music scene in Iron Daughter. Anything is possible in a fantasy book, but a 16-years-old girl that has never seen a sheet music in her life? Come on, the education at public schools in the USA cannot be THAT bad. I hope.
So that's about it. Despite some reproofs, I really like and recommend this series. At least up to Book No. 4.
So for my choice read, I read one of my favorite series the Iron Fey series. It’s about a 16 year old girl named Meghan Chase who finds herself traveling into fery with her best friend Robbie Goodfellow who happens to be Robin Goodfellow to save her little brother. After looking all around and meeting the dark Winter prince Ash she trick him into a contract. Help Puck and her find her brother and she will return to the unseelie court with him. (Shes the daughter of Oberon the summer king) they find her brother and return him home from the iron King. Second book, She’s at the Winter court for some time during her trip to the iron kingdom Ash and Meghan fell in love. While he’s there he breaks her heart and the iron fey sneak in and still the specter of seasons. Ash breaks meghan free betraying his court for her, (He always loved her he just couldn’t show his love for the Half-breed of the summer king ancient rivals of winter.) Ash tells Meghan they can’t be together so alone he goes after the specter. Meghan and puck go after it as well teaming uo with iron horse. After a lot of struggles they return it to mad, Then Ash and Meghan are exiled because they will not renounce their love. In Iron queen basically it’s a battle against the false King and in the end Meghan becomes the Iron queen. After releasing Ash from his promises and Knighthood banning from the Iron realm knowing it would kill him. And in the last book it’s from Ash’s point of view, he made a promise he will return to Meghan so he’s on a quest to gain a soul. Needing his long lost loves help, Ariella. Pulled in two different directions Ash continues his quest with Puck and Grim to the end of the world. In the end he gains a soul and becomes half mortal half fey. And goes into the iron realm where Meghan is waiting and they live happy ever after. So the main characters in this story would be Meghan and the Iron kings. Meghan in the protagonist or the good person the light that fights evil. Throughout the story no matter what she comes across she continues, through heartbreak, loss, anger, through all of it she continues fighting for what’s right. She loyal and never backs down and in the end that’s why she becomes the hero faery. The antagonist in the story would be the Iron kings, wanting to destroy faery and take out the summer and winter courts so the nevernever will belong to the iron fey. Evil and greedy the iron kings are deadly to the normal fey, and if it weren’t for Meghan Chase the iron fey would ruin everything. The themes in this book take awhile to find They aren’t all obvious. But the most obvious ones would be right vs wrong, good vs evil, light vs dark that kind of thing. Because throughout the story it’s Meghan that know what’s right and wrong because she has a soul and can feel guilt and shame and hurt. The fey don’t have a soul therefore they aren’t bound by guilt. And that’s one of the main reason Meghan is the hero of faery, because she’s loyal and brave and knows right and wrong. So Meghan is the light in this story, the good, the hero. But some of the more hidden themes would be like loss, sorrow, anger, regret, love, and hope. Each and every single one of these emotions ties into the story, and without even one Meghan would not have made the decisions she did. Love and loss helped her find her brother, sorrow when puck got shot motivated her to continue. Anger helped her defeat the first Iron king, regret led her to the winter palace. And she continued to fight for what and who she loved. Now it’s very close to A Midsummer’s Night Dream, the author took characters straight for the play. Like Robin Goodfellow, Oberon the summer king, mad the winter queen. But instead it’s a look into the world of fey. Where puck came from and his past and what he is. This is obviously for fun reading, but it teaches a lot. The themes taught a lot and I think that was her purpose, she also wanted to take from a famous poem to drawn in more people. All in all she made a great story. In the story the characters in the books really long for the past. Ash always longs for the love he lost but tries to move forward with the love he has. Meghan longs for her past a normal life and her family and Ash. And so they could be together Ash got a soul that symbolizes their love. Past sorrow and love made it difficult to move forward and together they made it. Puck symbolizes the friend zone, and Grim impending danger. So all in all it’s the most amazing book i’ve ever read, It’s one of my favorite series and I’m definetly reading again.
I love love love! This whole series. The world Kagawa crafted is elaborate, fun, exciting, dangerous, and beautiful. The never never is like a rose with thorns. Beautiful, but you are going to get pricked (in more way than one).
I love Meghan and Ash and Puck. I love their shenanigans and adventures. The story line never dulls. I was happy with every ending and outcome. Meghan was strong and rarely whiny (which I adore in a heroin).
I even love the spinoff series with Ethan, even though it ended abruptly and could have continued longer!
This is a wonderful series that incorporates fantasy, romance and action very well. You will never get bored reading one of Julie Kagawa's books. She is that amazing. And her books are other worldly.
Been my absolute favorite series since Freshmen year and it still is. Nothing can beat the fantasy and chemistry in this series. So grateful for your outstanding work. Look forward to many more amazing books/series from you. :D <3
"The series is very good because of the details and the characters are very relatable even though the book is very much made out of imagination" - Terry Rose Fuentes, EDH Library Teen Council
