Rosalie McKinnon's baby Sadie was kidnapped from the hospital right after birth 11 months ago. Rosalie has been searching frantically for her ever since. An RN, Rosalie finagled a job working on one of the baby farms, hoping to find some information that could lead her to her daughter.
One night, she drugs the guard, takes his Beretta and sneaks into the bossman's cabin, intent on interrogating him on the whereabouts of her daughter. (Why he would have any idea where or who her daughter is is beyond me. This book isn't big on logic.)
The 'bossman' turns out to be Austin Duran. But instead of being a scumbag kidnapper, he is an undercover FBI agent. He's also Rosalie's dead finace's (Eli) partner. The man Rosalie blames for Eli's death. He thinks that she's coming to his bed in the middle of the night to murder him in revenge.
Blah, blah, blah, eventually the two of them team up to find Sadie. ...
The weakness of Fossen's work is mainly her complete bungling of police work and police procedures. I have never, ever read worse, more incompetent police work or FBI work etc. than in this book. Cops and FBI agents do the stupidest and most idiotic things imaginable, the plans they make are terrible, they never have enough backup, their interrogations of suspects are incredibly sloppy. If you want to read about men with guns and badges running around like chickens with their heads chopped off, look no further than Fossen.
Add that to the fact that the romance is weak-ass, and you've got me as an unhappy reader.
The one good scene, and the only one I really enjoyed, was the very first one at the beginning when Rosalie sneaks into Austin's room and he pulls her into bed and they have a whispered discussion while pretending to have sex for the sake of the security cameras. The scene was really cute and also good and gave me hope for the rest of the novel. But the rest of the novel did not live up to this promise.
Good book with plenty of action to keep me turning the pages. Throughout the series, Rosalie has been searching for her kidnapped baby. Even though she's a nurse, not law enforcement, she found a way to infiltrate one of the baby farms. She's hoping to find out what happened to her baby. She drugs one of the guards, takes his gun, and goes to confront the head of security, hoping to force information from him. What she finds is Austin, her late fiance's partner, acting on his own to find his kidnapped nephew.
Rosalie has blamed Austin for the events that resulted in her fiance's death, but revenge is the last thing on her mind. Unfortunately, her actions have blown his cover and put both of them in danger. The person behind the baby stealing ring wants both of them dead and will do anything to make it happen. Austin is determined to protect Rosalie, while at the same time finding both missing children.
Austin had been drawn to Rosalie even when she was engaged to his partner, but being an honorable man he did nothing about it. Being with her now has the attraction flaring back to life. He still feels guilty over Eli's death, and that contributes to his determination to keep her safe. What he doesn't expect is for the attraction to be reciprocated. Rosalie isn't happy about her attraction to Austin, but she can't stop it. Being so close to him, she quickly realizes that her fiance's death wasn't his fault, and that there is a lot more to him than she had suspected.
One of the things I enjoyed about their relationship is the way that they worked together. Rosalie is a strong and capable woman who is determined to do whatever it takes to find her child. She isn't the type to sit back and let someone else to all the work. I loved watching her stand up to Austin and refuse to be left behind in safety. She's also smart and is determined to stay involved. Austin wants to find both missing children, but he wants to keep Rosalie safe. Her insistence on being involved frustrates him as it goes against all his protective instincts, but he can't deny her the opportunity. I loved seeing them be able to move on from the past and be able to look at a future together.
The suspense itself was very good. Austin and Rosalie had to work to stay one step ahead of the men who were trying to kill them. There were several suspects in the kidnapping ring, each of whom was blaming the other. The information that Austin and Rosalie uncovered could apply to any of them. Things got really intense the closer they got to finding Rosalie's daughter, and the final confrontation was nerve wracking.
A mother's baby is kidnapped from the hospital after birth. Now eleven months later the mother is still searching for her baby. My question is where is the police, etc. Why are they still not looking for the baby? Then she meets a FBI agent who is looking for his new born nephew who was kidnapped. Unbelievable story. I didn't like the lead female, Rosalie. The male lead Austin was ok.
Before I even started reading this book I prayed that I would read her daughter and his nephew would be found and they would be able to go home with their family… whether they were found or not is up for you to find out. That is the whole mystery of this book. When I read the first book reading all the other books in this series was practically a MUST because there was so much more I wanted to know… no needed to know.
Another story that we were thrown straight into. I found some of the text was repetitive but not necessarily to the detriment of the story as a whole. I thought the premise of the book was unusual and certainly added to the suspense. The end of story reveal was good. This person had been in and out of the spotlight but I was still surprised with the reveal. All in all a good story that I would recommend to other fans of the genre.

I enjoyed this book in a series. Follow Austin Duran, FBI agent and Rosalie McKinnon as they try to find her kidnapped daughter and his kidnapped nephew. Both are very much in danger as they rush to save these babies and others from so-called baby farms.
...and read them back to back! My only day off in a couple of weeks, now, and reading four of the books back to back and napping through out the day! That was totally awesome to be able to do this!
This was a story that I really enjoyed. This book had lots of action, and suspense, but it also had a great story line that pulled me in, and touched my heart.
Rosalie's daughter was kidnapped shortly after she was born. She can't just stand by and do nothing. She went under cover, and was hired as a nurse to one of the baby farms, hoping to be able to track down her daughter. Austin is a FBI agent. He is under cover, looking for his baby niece that was also kidnapped. Both Rosalie's, and Austin's cover got blown, and they had to work together to survive, and stay alive. There were several suspects that were part of the kidnapping ring. Everyone involved is blaming the others. It takes good team work, and a little luck for Rosalie, and Austin to find the person that was behind the whole operation.
This book had it all, Romance, action, suspense, and a great story line.
In Fossen’s romantic intrigue novel, FBI agent Austin Duran is undercover and the knockout with the Beretta is someone he knows. Rosalie McKinnon was engaged to his best friend who died on a mission gone wrong. She just blew his cover without intent—her infant daughter is missing and she’s determined to find her. The Texas lawman can relate as he’s on unofficial duty as he tracks his missing nephew. With a desire and a relentless adversary hot on their trails, they must trust each other to save the children.
A fast-paced addition to the Sweetwater Ranch series.
