In the fragile peace following Queen Death’s defeat, Dr. Daniel Jackson arrives in Atlantis to indulge in some real archaeology. Naturally, things don’t go according to plan.

Convinced that an Ascended Elizabeth Weir saved his life, Dr. Rodney McKay argues that she must have escaped her replicator body in order to ascend. No one believes him, but when rumors reach Atlantis of a woman with no memory who calls herself ‘Elizabeth’, Rodney is determined to track her down.

Meanwhile, Daniel’s research uncovers evidence of Vanir activity in the Pegasus galaxy - evidence that casts both light and shadow over the mystery of Elizabeth...

I read these books to fill the hole that is in my life, left by no more Stargate on TV. And I honestly don't expect a whole lot from these books. So the previous 5 books in the Legacy series were a pleasant surprise. This book however...do we have to bring back every major character that dies? Fine, ok, I guess we do. This book felt so predictable.
***Spoilers***

Having Woolsey being recalled by the IOA, it is easy to see where this is going. There was no suspense about where Elizabeth was finally going to run into the team. And the encounter with Sora was mostly unnecessary. I could use a break from her. However, there was some good stuff in here. I loved when Teyla told off Daniel. The Alpha site problems were interesting and the first offworld mission of the team was good, I liked the wildlife. I like the involvement of the Wraith Ember. Ronon's difficulty with the Wraith treaty is spot on. I am not sure how I feel about the Asgard, yet.

***End Spoilers***
So for my Stargate fans, go ahead and read it. Be warned that you need to have read the entire Legacy series to understand everything that is happening. The book was enjoyable and quick paced. I do think the authors make these books too short and could go more in depth on a lot of things. But I realize these books are still approved by MGM so maybe MGM likes them short and only skimming the surface of people's emotions and reactions. For a light, quick, read that will leave you hanging for the next book, it is a good book.

Spectacular!! Keep them coming Jo Graham

I have loved the whole series thus far! Truly miss this show. Thank You for doing such a great job of incorporating SG-1 into the series. I would love for the creators to create a miniseries bringing the 2 series together, maybe even bring SGU into the mix. Think what BBC America did with Doctor Who. One hour a night for 5 to 7 nights. Just a thought. I think if promoted right, the fans would be there for the Universe we all fell in love with. On to book 8, wish there were more. With that said...TREMENDOUS JOB!!

Oh this book is very good!! I would go as far as to say that it is the best of the Legacy series so far. The story line divided into some good old Ancient and Asgard technology scavenger hunts and story of Elizabeth Weir is a great mix and the pace of the book is really really good and probably better than the pace of its predecessors. I have just three tiny little things that could have been probably better. First, the part where the Satedan was like "OMG You can read Lantean! No one in this galaxy can do that! I guess you really must be Satedan..." was pretty weird and it should either not have been mentioned or the book should have admitted she can be Lantean. Instead everyone played really dumb and I don't like that... Secondly, speaking of playing dumb the "oh that's why" moment regarding Asgard in the second to last chapter should have been figured out sooner. Five pages worth of wondering at painfully obvious thing is just a waste of time. Lastly, I am not to keen on the forced unascention deal, because I find it really hard to make it work in the Stargate universe we know from the TV series, but maybe it will grow on me... Anyway that was really just nit-picking. The book is brilliant and I love to see some more Weir-Jackson-Asgard action!

A reward for the patient Weir fans

Though this doesn't always happen in novelized sci-fi, even within one series, this latest iteration of the Stargate: Atlantis Legacy books captured the essence of the show. I could immediately picture what I read in my mind instead of having to struggle to make it seem real.

Dr. Elizabeth Weir is one of my favorite characters across all fiction—the Kathryn Janeway of the Pegasus galaxy. Reading this book offered me the hope that many Weir fans have held since the on-screen end of the character's arc. I hope Torri Higginson reads about this novel; it deals with the history and struggles of the beloved character that she brought to life.

The book makes strong use of the regular complement of characters and offers insight into and development of them as people, notably Teyla and Richard Woolsey. Dr. Daniel Jackson's presence is a treat, and the book takes advantage of plot elements from both the TV show and the preceding Legacy novels. I hope that the next novel is well under way by now. I can't wait to learn more. I, for one, vote for Rodney McKay to dye his hair back.

Unascended gently restarts following the events of the previous novel, Inheritors. The Atlantis expedition has entered a tenuous calm and things are returning to normal. Except for Dr. McKay, who is convinced the former leader of the expedition, Elizabeth Weir, is in need of rescue.

I enjoyed the story, short as it seemed. The books focuses more on character development and changes following the previous Atlantis books. The characterization felt just like an episode of the Stargate: Atlantis TV show. It contained action, humor, and just a touch of character growth. Tough guy Ronon begins talking with a very smart and very capable Psychiatrist who engages him without driving him away.

It also felt just like the 2nd episode of a season of the TV show. The one right after the big, high budget season premiere, where they need to do a small, introspective episode to save budget. After the highs and sweeping story implications of Inheritors, we spend most of the story waiting for Atlantis to find Weir. We see slightly missed connections, then,

The book was worth reading, if only to see Dr. Jackson as a member of Atlantis' expedition, no longer content to just be the exposition man, but actually wanting to learn. A good choice for an Atlantis fan, that I'm hoping is setting up good things for Third Path.

Exciting Continuation

Again, great story, exciting action. Loved most of the plot. But again you have the issue with no division between scenes and it gets crazy.

Also this book does not end at a logical moment. Instead it’s as if the author had been told her book was too long and just grabbed a stack of the book and said, okay end it there. I suspect if I didn’t love Stargate so much I wouldn’t give it 4 stars.

story great, formatting lacks scene breaks

Another fun ride in the Atlantis universe. I like when SG1 characters are brought in. The Genii are their typical selves, and we are that Teyla has her hands full with Robin and Daniel. I reduced one star because again there are no separations between scenes. Irritating. I've formatted books and ebooks. It's not rocket science.

After the end of the last book it felt like only a few loose ends had been left and this next one is certainly doing it's best to tie them up.

This Legacy series would have been spectacular on the small screen. It's got enough going on that it probably could have provided the story arch for another two or three seasons if not more. <3 !

I have to admit that I’ve never been a Weir fan. I loved this book when it wasn’t dealing with Weir because I have a feeling she’s going to be put back in charge and make some not so good changes... we shall see.

Good

Are they seriously going to not kill this Genii girl? She is the worst and they just keep not killing her, no idea why.

So much incredible potential in this story wasted because the writer got a two book deal and couldn't come up with more than 100 pages of content but still needed to hit the full book wordcount.

The plot meanders a bit, but this is still a pretty solid book. Got a bit emotional while reading that reunion scene.

Exhilarating

Another good read ended on a cliffhanger which means you need to read the next book ASAP to see what's happening

Long drawn out story until the actual meeting with Elizabeth! Although once I go there the book finished so I think this is quite short in comparison to some of the other books. Woolsey sidelined as soon as possible, Daniel made out to look like a bit of an idiot being slapped down by Teyla, not sure I really enjoyed this one as much as the previous books.

After his seemingly impossible survival of what was meant to be a suicide mission, Rodney is convinced that it was indeed Elizabeth who helped him - and that it is entirely possible that she has pulled a Daniel Jackson, i.e. ascended and now been kicked out of her higher plane of existence for interfering with the affairs of ordinary mortals. Hard as it is to convince anyone that he might be right, when rumours of a woman without memories who calls herself Elizabeth reach Atlantis, Rodney will do all he can to find her. Daniel, meanwhile, has decided to remain in Atlantis for the time being and use the opportunity to indulge in archaeological studies, thereby stumbling across technology left by the Pegasus galaxy Asgard.

Much as bringing back Elizabeth feels a little like a cop-out (can't anyone stay dead around here?), I still did a little happy dance first when we met her as an Ascended being in the previous books and another one when she came back in this one. Have I mentioned that I love what the authors are doing with the characters and storylines in this sequel series? I probably have, in every single review. But I've gotta say it again anyway: I love it. Gimme more.

Second review: Two years later and I like it more this time. Not one of the best in the series, but I'm enjoying the stuff in this series about the Wraith, the Asurans, & Elizabeths past and present more.

First review: This was underwhelming, and not just because of the lack of my favourite, Zelenka. The way the whole thing with Weir went was very predictable, and her part of the story, especially the flashbacks, wasn't that interesting. I found myself skimming through her sections. I am interested in finding out what's going on with this though.

, and doesn't seem in character for him at this point. That was a lame plot device.

Overall, this is my least favourite of this series which I'm basically really enjoying. At least since I have the last book to now read, I'm not annoyed by the cliffhanger.

I was wondering where they were taking the story next after finally reaching an uneasy truce with the Wraith. I love that Elizabeth is back. The book dealt with her slowly remembering things from her past and Rodney trying to convince everyone that he wasn't crazy. I thought it interesting that the author is bringing back the Asgard. Confined to a single planet in the Pegasus Galaxy, they have rarely been mentioned. Now they are the new menace. The book ends with a huge cliffhanger, so of course I started reading the next book right away to find out what happens. I'm really enjoying these books.

I actually really enjoyed this one. There was a lot more of the history and learning about other tech that has been sadly missing lately from stargate. I can't say I cared for Elizabeth's chapters at all, or her for that matter. I don't feel that her return was necessary at all and while I understand that the authors aren't allowed to kill any main characters that doesn't mean that had to bring long dead ones back. Can't wait for the next book!

More than any of the other books in the Legacy series, this felt like the return to the Atlantis I knew. There were a few tangents that probably could have been cut, that felt more like distractions - or at the very least, were overemphasized. That being said, the team dynamics more closely matched the series, and I absolutely love the return of Dr. Weir. I'm looking forward to where they take the story!

An action packed entertaining read, the only bad thing is that it ended on a cliffhanger! I was both happy and intrigued when I heard that this story was going to bring back the character of Dr. Weir and I look forward to finding out what is in store for her and the team.

Pleasant surprise! I thought this series within a series had ended. The post-TV storyline is very good. Has more depth and character building than one might expect. I'm looking forward to the next one!

the book gave what I was expecting from a Stargate fiction, action, light and fast reading, and realistic way for the series to continue. Enjoyed my time with the book and recommend it to any one who takes Stargate as good way to relax and spend some time.

The continuing saga...I just wish they were not all cliff hangers. Good story, and the characters mostly ring true. I enjoyed reading, torn between what next and oh no, ending too soon.
