Card, Unleashed: A Classic Western Adventure

Rate this book
The untamed frontier stretches far and wide, but danger always knows where to strike.

When a desperate letter arrives from his wife’s estranged uncle, Aaron, Card Jordan faces a new kind of wilderness—the snow-capped peaks of Colorado, where claim jumpers and cutthroats rule the mountains. Aaron’s gold and silver mine has drawn the attention of ruthless killers, and he’s counting on Card’s iron will and fast draw to bring justice.

But as Card tracks Aaron’s shadowy enemies, he discovers a network of violence and greed far deeper than one man’s survival. Armed with his Colts and a badge that carries as much weight as the past he can’t shake, Card must battle lawless gunmen, treacherous terrain, and his own doubts about whether redemption is possible in a land where justice often comes at the barrel end of a gun.

Can Card protect what’s right without losing his soul? Or will Colorado’s rugged peaks become his final resting place?

Card, Unleashed is the sixth installment in the Card Jordan series and perfect for fans of action-packed Westerns, deadly showdowns, and heroic tales of frontier grit. Prepare for a high-stakes ride through a land as unforgiving as the men who claim it.

Card is forced to take a different path in the newest release in the Card series.

Card Unleashed by Monty R. Garner is a thrilling Western adventure that follows the exploits of Card Jordan. When a desperate letter arrives from his wife's estranged uncle, Aaron, Card is drawn into the treacherous wilderness of Colorado. The novel's strength lies in its vivid portrayal of the untamed frontier and the complex characters that inhabit it. Card is a compelling protagonist, grappling with his own doubts and the weight of his past as he faces off against claim jumpers and cutthroats. The supporting characters, including Aaron and the various adversaries Card encounters, add depth and intrigue to the narrative.

It was a good story and my sixth to read in the series. It was really more like two stories in one book, that were very loosely connected. No foul, but a little odd. So why only three stars for a 4 or 5 star book? We all known that WolfPack books are going to have some proofing errors, but this was different. For example, in one of the chapters it read: “If it were me, I would be somewhere my horse could be hidden, and I could get to it quickly for my escape.” Huh? Did the author intend to insert his perception of Card’s actions? This happened two or three times. Very odd.

Likewise, there was a passage that said: “His actions evoked a sense of empathy, making the audience feel a connection with Card’s character.” Huh??? What the heck is going on here?

In the latest installment of the series, Maxine Jordan receives an urgent letter from her Uncle Aaron, pleading for help to protect his gold and silver mine from ruthless claim jumpers. At the train depot, Card notices a suspicious group led by Virgil Ward, whose intentions seem ominous. Traveling to Colorado, he discovers his uncle has been murdered. Determined to seek justice, Card identifies the claim jumpers and swiftly deals with them. Upon returning home, the story escalates dramatically as the Ward brothers launch a violent campaign against local ranchers, setting the stage for an intense and gripping narrative.

Another in the Card Jordan series. They just keep getting better. Card faces threats and violence to his family and friends in this story which puts him to exact justice. THis pits him against a vicious cattle baron who is expanding his holdings mostly through threats and violence. Once again Card puts on the U.S. Marshalls badge and goes after the bad guys. This story is full of action and good reading. Card is one of my favorites.

Repetition

Repetitious errors in tense agreement as well as spelling crop up often. Also, subplot elements are so familiar at times that they seem like cases of "deja vu" as I am reading. Editing is definitely warranted.

Excellent story nearly ruined by sloppy editing. Missing words, wrong words, grammar errors all interrupt the flow of a reader.
