Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings.
She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals.
Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along.

Nunca li uma história tão fofinha.
Temos de ser corajosos e unidos, com ajuda, conseguimos ultrapassar as dificuldades.
As personagens de que gostei muito foram as tartarugas (a Safira e o Kai) e a serpente.
As ilustrações mais engraçadas representam a serpente com a cara a parecer um disco, de tanto girar a cabeça, porque levou com um coco. A outra ilustração é quando o macaco salta e faz uma cara de Cristiano Ronaldo." 😲🙉🐢🐢🐍🦤

UAU! Posso ou não ter tido que me controlar imenso para não acabar este livro a chorar enquanto o lia para a minha filha! 🥹
A par dos pandas é o favorito da coleção.
Uma história amorosa e terna sobre o vínculo entre irmãs, sobre a capacidade de não desistirmos do outro mesmo que isso possa significar não chegar em primeiro, porque o mais importante não é ganhar mas sim estar juntos. 🫂
As ilustrações são lindas e chamativas tal como a autora já nos habituou.
Super recomendo! 🤍

This was so beautiful - both in illustrative style, presentation and in message.
Two sibling turtles (well, lots of turtles but we are following two) are racing to the sea, but one gets distracted by the city lights. The other must decide if winning is more important than their tiny sibling.
I love that this hugely good natured story is actually shining a light on some of the real concerns for wildlife like light pollution for sea turtles, but it does so in a way I don’t think children would necessarily recognise which is great.

An inspiring children’s picture book about never leaving your friends or siblings behind and realising that things don’t always have to be done the same way. You can change the future.
Lovely pictures, cute turtles, rhyming text.

Zoals altijd zijn de boeken van Rachel Bright en Jim Field weer een regelrechte hit bij mijn zoontjes. Goed verhaal, mooie platen en fijn beschreven. De boodschap die erin zit, is ook altijd goed voor de volwassenen. Dit boek mag zeker niet ontbreken in de boekenkast als er kinderen in huis zijn!

De boeken van dit duo koop ik bijna ongezien. De illustraties zijn altijd heerlijk speels en kleurrijk, en de verhalen bevatten steevast een diepere laag waar je in de klas prachtig mee aan de slag kunt.
Dit keer staat de geboorte van een groep jonge schildpadjes centraal. Meteen na hun geboorte moeten ze rennen, zo snel als ze kunnen, richting de zee. Doen ze dat niet, dan lopen ze het gevaar te worden opgegeten. Ook Dodo en haar broertje Dickie zetten het direct op een lopen. Maar halverwege het strand ziet Dodo tot haar schrik dat haar broertje de verkeerde kant op rent.
Wat doe je dan? Kies je voor je eigen veiligheid, of ga je terug om je broertje te redden?
Het is een prachtig verhaal (met opnieuw een zeer geslaagde vertaling) over moed, hulpvaardigheid en samenwerken. Dit boek leent zich bij uitstek voor een lessenserie in de klas: close reading, burgerschap, sociaal-emotionele vorming, het kan allemaal met dit verhaal.
De tekst is geschreven op een swingend rijm, dat in de vertaling knap overeind is gebleven. Een feest om voor te lezen aan jonge kinderen, vanaf ongeveer drie jaar.
