Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

city of bones + the falconer = this book

a secret order of special individuals are tasked with hunting down the paranormal (like city of bones), which in this case are evil fae (like the falconer). everything else about this book is classic JLA. entertaining plot, fun side characters, steamy romance, and a cliffhanger you can see coming a mile away. lol.

i cant say this is my favourite book of hers. i am slowly, but surely, making my way through JLAs bibliography (i think this is book #31), and although i prefer her more recent fantasy books, i did enjoy this more than some of her others (*cough* the covenant series *cough*). i like that the fae are the villains, as its an uncommon perspective. i think thats was really drew me into the story and its a great set up for the following books.

overall, not disappointed with this and will most likely continue with the series.

Jen has done it again.
Where does she come up with this stuff?? I need to dive into her mind for a day to steal some plots, seriously.
I've read a lot of fae stories and even written one myself, but Jen's take on the fae? So fun. Just awesome.
And Tink might be my favorite character ever, hands down - I got the crazy giggles in some of his scenes.

”I’m a lot of things, but today I’m your fucking saving grace”.

Oh, wow. OH, WOW.

I'm pretty sure I start off every review for a book that Jla writes by saying something along the lines of this... JLA HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!! Another amazing novel. This lady can write anything. Contemporary, paranormal romance, NA lit, anything. If she published her target shopping list I would read it because I know she would make it amazing. Wicked was so wicked!!! To me it was like the polar opposite of her Dark Elements series and I loved that (I love The Dark Elements)!I just loved that it was so different.

Wicked is a paranormal new adult and a first in The Wicked Trilogy. Pretty sure at one point I told Leah I thought I just got pregnant reading this. Whoosh it was so hot! It wasn't just the steamy scenes that made this book. It was everything. The world building, plot, flow, and the characters. Ivy is funny, strong, and awkward. The things that go on in her head are hilarious. Ren is so upfront, charming, and wickedly hot. The relationship between Ren and Ivy is almost insta-love but falls closer to insta-lust. Which I think is a good thing. The things they say to each other (mainly Ren) is so so yummy.

"um, yeah. I do. Baking... is like a hobby." Okay that was a total lie. The only cakes I could bake came out of the box. It was Tink who baked the cakes from scratch. "And why haven't I been offered any cake?"..."You're going to have to get to know me better before you taste my cake."... "Was that an invitation? Because I'm willing to get to know you in any way possible if that means I get to taste your cake." "Invitation for....?" Oh my God. My words were replayed. My face turned crimson. "You are such a pervert!"

I really enjoyed Ren as a character so much. He is seriously like the sweet caring version of Roth from TDE. They even both ride motorcycles. He also knows Disney movies. For some odd reason men know Disney movies are hot. Hell, Jla seriously can make anything hot. She did some job on Ren. Kid you not this was me 99.9% of the time he was involved...

He was the perfect leading man. Romantic and Take charge. One of my favorite things however is how Ivy is described. She's a curvy frizzy haired ginger. Loved it! The romantic scenes between the two of them are written perfectly. Saying they were hot would be an understatement. I was reading this at work and had to stop because I couldn't stop blushing. I can't wait to see what happens between these two crazy kids as the story continues. As for sub characters the main ones are Val and Tink. Val is Ivy's best friend and is a little on the slutty side (no judgment). But my favorite, FAVORITE character is Tink. OMG I love him so much!!!! The one foot-troll doll lovin-pop culture junkie-little brownie stole the show. Everything he says is amazing.

"Grabbing a scarf off the chair, I threw it at him. He caught it, clutching it to his chest as he flew into the air. "You gave Tink a scarf. Tink is free!" He flew out into the hallway like a little cracked-out fairy, screeching, "Tink is freeeeee!" Ren looked at me. "What the actual fuck?" I sighed. "He's obsessed with Harry Potter. I'm sorry."

The Twilight, Dr. Who, Harry Potter, and Salt and Pepa references he threw around killed me. It had been a long time since I had laughed that hard, and at a sub-character too. He took this story too a whole new level

"He ignored me. "Sex is best when it's one on one!" Stopping in the hall, I turned to where he was doing a pelvic thrust. "Isn't that a George Michael song?" "Maybe. but he was wrong. I like to think sex is best when it's like three on three or something. Seems more adventurous." Whatever. Goodnight, Tink." I closed the door as he broke out in a Salt-n-Pep a song."

Every character in this book is so perfect. The plot is fast paced and action packed. There was never a dull moment, or a time I was bored. The plot starts strong and doesn't let up. There are two twists in this story. One was very predictable and one I had no clue was coming. I don't think I've ever updated my GR status so many times before, especially out of pure excitement. Seriously, I wasn't kidding when I said I needed water. This book was like a sauna!! And the ending. Holy sweet Jesus way to leave us hanging!!! Wicked has to be one of my favorite books and starts a series I've read all year.

Can I please give this more than five stars?!?!?!

I loved the cover but the story was...

Ivy Morgan is a red headed Fae hunter who lives in New Orleans. She is a member of The Order protecting us humans from the lurking Fae. Ivy meets Ren Owens who is new to the area and this chapter of The Order from Colorado. They slowly fall in love all the while they are working together trying to figure out what is going on with Ancients and their plan to use the gateways to enter our world.

The writing just didn’t measure up to the Lux Series to me and the characters were mediocre. Ren, the love interest was completely bland and the love connection was sadly the same. I just didn’t feel anything for this couple.

The best character in the story was Tink the Brownie.

description

The plot twist was predictable and sadly Jennifer Armentrout didn’t bring anything new to the Fae type stories that I have already read.

So good! I need the sequel now!!
Wicked is a hot romance set in a world where supernatural creatures exist, and the lovers must put their lives on the line to keep the people of New Orleans safe. The setting is vivid, the characters endearing, and there is a perfect balance of danger and beauty.

This one was a nice surprise! After seeing a handful of negative reviews on this one, I went into it with lowered expectations. I came out of this reading experience a very happy girl! And after 2 previous books I DNF'd, I need this gem of a story.

First off, this book is very much New Adult genre, so don't go into it thinking it's YA. The fact that in Chapter 1 the MC is discussing getting laid and orgasms is the first giant sign.

 photo Untitled.png

Ivy is a member of an Order that can see fae in our realm. Faeries aren't the good guys, in fact they feed off of humans with deadly consequences. Living in New Orleans, Ivy has a very tragic past and does her best to keep those around her at arms length. That is, until she's assigned a new partner Ren, who is hotness come to life and very much interested in her.

 photo Untitled.png

This book had me smiling the majority of the time I was reading it. It's not the most original plot, but it was enjoyable and it worked for me. Because my brain is a bit fried at the moment, I'm doing a breakdown review.

What I liked:
-Ivy: A great mix of kick ass woman with a little but of a vulnerable girl in her, Ivy wants more than the predicted short life span the Order has to offer. Ivy dreams of a future of more and I found that admirable.

-Tink: Loved this guy, he was freaking hilarious. Especially that Dobby house elf scene. LMAO!

“You gave Tink a scarf. Tink is free!" He flew out into the hallway like a little cracked-out fairy, screeching, "Tink is freeeeee!”

-Ren's determination: While he was spewing a bunch of instalust, Ren made the point that in their line of work, they had to chase after what they wanted with no hesitations. And he wanted Ivy and his pursuit of her was so much fun to read.

-Pop culture references: I'm fairly certain that this book is self-published, and I feel because of that JLA was able to include references to Harry Potter, The Walking Dead, Amazon Prime etc, which yes will date this book in the future, but gave the book a unique touch that I rather enjoyed.

“Why couldn't he say I reminded him of Ariel or something? Then again, Ariel was kind of stupid, giving up her voice for a dude.”

-Setting: I've always wanted to go to New Orleans, so enough said.

What I didn't like:
-Pacing: Got a little slow there in the middle and I did have to push myself a bit to keep going. But it soon picked up and remedied itself

-Cliffhanger: Gah! We have to wait until Summer 2015 for answers!! JLA you wound meh!!!

-Predictability: <---that pretty much says it all.

 photo Untitled.png

Bottom line, if you need a quick, unique New Adult read mixed with a little bit of Urban Fantasy, this book is for you!

♥︎ characters and chemistry
the characters are able to engage with each other really well and I love it how jla seamlessly breathes in life to each of them.

I might have blushed a few times when reading ivy and ren's dialogues. ren is so confident and charismatic.

enough gushing, another thing I thorough enjoyed was ivy's pov. it is just hilarious at times.

plot twist?
sadly, the plot twist is predictable, otherwise wicked will have earned 4 stars.

3.5 stars, enjoyable read with likeable characters 💗

Fae Fighters!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 🦁👱🏻‍♀️🦁👩🏼

The heroine(s): Ivy Morgan - she lives in New Orleans, attends Loyola University and is a member of the Order. The Order are the only people on Earth who know about the Fae. They have closed all the gates to the other world, but many Fae are still in our world, hiding themselves under Glamour and feeding on humans. Members of the order have wards and can see through the glamour. Ivy and her peers only need to put a steel stake through the heart of a Fae to banish them back to the other world.

The Hero: Ren Owens - an Elite member of the Order from Colorado. Ren has come to New Orleans because he is hunting down very dangerous Fae called Elders. They are strong, don’t need glamour, can do magic and steel stakes do not work on them.

The Story: While out on patrol, Ivy comes across a Fae man who wasn’t affected by her stake and materialized a gun out of thin air and shot her. After barely making it back to the Order, she meets Ren. Ivy notices how attractive Ren is and he is attracted to her as well. The leader of the Order puts Ivy and Ren together so she can show him around New Orleans.

The book has a plethora of interesting characters, such as Ivy’s friend Val, the brownie she found, took home and named Tink, and many of the other members of the Order. The narration was done by Amy Landon and though I like dual narration, she was pleasant sounding and I enjoyed listening to this book.

Told in Ivy’s POV, Wicked has all of the ingredients of a complex paranormal romance with action, passion, and intrigue. The connection between Ivy and Ren is both tender and sweet and it morphs into a burning inferno.

Overall, Wicked will appeal to paranormal romance fans who enjoy mystical creatures, mystery, and romance. I have long been a fan of Jennifer L. “You gave Tink a scarf. Tink is free!" He flew out into the hallway like a little cracked-out fairy, screeching, "Tink is freeeeee!”

Wicked tells the story of Ivy, a 22-year-old student from New Orleans. Since she lost her parents and her boyfriend in an attack four years ago, she lives rather isolated and lets few people come close to her because she is afraid of losing them too. While Ivy goes to university during the day, she spends her evenings hunting Fae that steal the life energy of humans to kill them. During one of her nightly patrols she suddenly encounters a Fae that not only has the magic to rob humans of their will but is also able to materialize an object in his hands, in this case a gun. As far as Ivy knew, normal Fae could not do this and in the fight with the mysterious Fae she gets shot by him. With her last strength she drags herself back to the headquarters of the Order. There she meets Ren, another member of the Order who has recently been transferred to New Orleans. Together they try to find out who this Fae was and Ivy soon finds out that there is more behind this than she ever could have imagined.
“You wouldn't lie to me, would you, Tink?"
"No." He grinned. "You have Amazon Prime.”

This book captivated me after the first 100 pages and hasn't let go since. Maybe because the characters of my last book were such a flop, it made me realize how damn well written they are in this story. Ivy is a badass main character who can stand up for herself and as you follow her story her feelings and problems are realistically described so you can easily put yourself in her shoes.
Ivys love interest Ren has his heart on his tongue and knows exactly what he wants. Since she has built up a huge wall around herself over the last years, she makes it difficult for him to get through to her on a personal level that has nothing to do with the work in the order.
“The fae went down, and before he could retaliate, I went all Van Helsing on his ass.”

I can really recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a great New Adult Urban Fantasy book. The ending is so good, even if it is not completely unpredictable, that you need the second book right away. No seriously, I borrowed it directly from the library and will continue reading now, which is why this review is so short.
Nothing more needs to be said, dive into the world of New Orleans yourself!

Leer a Jennifer L. Armentrout nunca decepciona.

Okay, so I'm not going to lie - I was expecting more out of this 😥 I have loved all books by JLA so when I heard that this was "new adult" with fae involved, I could not wait to read it! But then I started reading and I just didn't fall in love with it.

🆗 IVY WAS INTERESTING ENOUGH but she wasn't anything unique or special that I haven't read about before. Same for Ren, the love interest. They're both okay and don't have anything glaringly that I dislike about them, but I just didn't find them very memorable

I DID ENJOY THE ROMANCE even though I felt like it was more medium-burn than slow-burn. But I enjoyed the build-up and I appreciated that it was steamier than most YA fantasy 😏 Definitely new adult in that regard

TINK CARRIED THIS NOVEL for me because he was such a hilarious and engrossing side character. I definitely added a star just for him lol

THE STORY WAS PREDICTABLE and I saw the twist at the end coming from forever away, so the ending didn't have as much of a punch as it should have and was a little disappointing

🆗 LOVED THE SETTING IN New Orleans - it's one of those cities where I'm not sure if I'll ever get tired of urban fantasy stories taking place there! But overall, this spin on fae and the overall magical world just wasn't super interesting to me. Not my favorite spin on fae

Even though I enjoyed the romance and the steam level in this book, when it comes to fantasy-romance, I have pretty high expectations for the fantasy side of the story and that's mostly where I found this lacking. Overall, I'll continue reading the series but it's definitely is not my favorite so far.

Wicked was seductive, insanely addicting and had moments that were oh so funny.  I love picking up a Jennifer Armentrout book there's a great chance that I'm going to love the story.  But somehow I always forget how deeply immersed I become with the storyline and the characters.  So by the time I got to the end of Wicked, I couldn't help shaking my head because I had tears pouring down my face.  Again.  I don't know why I'm always shocked that I feel every single tiny moment of joy, hope and utter devastation with the characters she creates.  Because that's what always happens.  But her endings, oh my goodness, this one left my heart hurting yet I have lots of faith and can't wait to see where the story will go!
We lived with death and we knew it waited for each and every one of us. We were taught not to fear the inevitable, but again, what we were never taught was how to live on when those around us left.
It was so much fun being back in a world that somehow reminded me of the Covenant/Titan series.  I think I'm grasping straws here, but the setting took place in a world much like the one we are living in now.  Plus, the members of the Order have endured a lifetime of training and a dedication that they will protect those around them.  I was fascinated learning everything I could about them.
"Are you hitting on me?" Shocked, I shook my head. "Are you for real?"
"My momma probably thinks I'm real."
I ignored that. "While I have a stake at your throat?"
"You're also sitting on me, and sweetness, if you slide about an inch or so down, things are going to get real awkward."
Holy shit.
"Or fun," he added, and his lips did that slow curl again, like he savored the whole process of smiling. "I told you I found that move you made to be fucking hot. But I don't think you're going to be down for that."
Ivy is a member of the Order, and while she spent her days going to college, at night she hunted the fae.  I loved that she had aspirations to become more in life then what she was raised to be.  But it was fun watching her hunt the fae at night.  She was beyond brave and I quickly admired her strength and her perseverance to keeping others safe.  But during the day I got to see many other sides to her.  When she was around Tink, a brownie that she saved and was living with her, the humor that floated between the two of them was electrifying.  And then the naivety and uncertainty that she showed around Ren, a new transfer in the Order, just made me like her that much more.  She was so relatable, real, caring, ahhh you know what?  Ivy was someone that I would value and be grateful to have as a friend.
"You're going to have to get to know me better before you taste my cake."
Ren opened his mouth then closed it a second before he stopped and stepped right in front of me. I skidded to a stop to avoid slamming into him . The guy behind us cursed and shot us a dirty look as he walked around us. Ren ignored him. "Was that an invitation? Because I'm willing to get to know you in any way possible if that means I get to taste your cake."
"Invitation for . . .?" Oh my God. My words replayed. My face turned crimson. "You are such a pervert!" I smacked his chest hard. "That's not what I meant."
"That's a damn shame then," he said solemnly.
I hit him again, on the arm this time, then stormed around him. "You're such a dog."
Ren, oh my gosh. *shivers coat my skin* I loved how direct and to the point he was.  I loved that he knew right away that he wanted Ivy and he definitely had no problems physically and verbally expressing that to her.  He was forward, seductive, charming and I couldn't get enough of him!  While I'm usually not the biggest fan of a forward approach, he quickly had me begging for more.  The way he treated Ivy, the way he performed his job, actually everything he did I was a huge fan of.  I loved, loved, loved Ren.
"You wouldn't lie to me, would you, Tink?"
"No." He grinned. "You have Amazon Prime."
I couldn't end this review without talking a little bit more about Tink.  Tink was ridiculously hilarious.  That little bastard had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.  My favorite moment with him was the 'Braveheart' scene, oh my gosh I had tears pouring down my face!  Add in the fact that he was obsessed with Amazon Prime and sugar, well I honestly think we could be best friends forever!  And I'm just as excited to see what happens to him in the future books, as I am about Ivy and Ren!  So yes, I easily fell madly in love with this story and the characters and hopefully you will too!

P.S. I love that Ivy reads and that she mentions The Marked Men by Jay Crownover (I love Rule & Asa).

Was it enjoyable? Yeah. Was it original? Nope.

It had too many similarities with other books. Sorry, but it's true. Fae coming from another world? The heroine is something special? I'm not gonna name it, but you know the series. Still, I liked it. I liked Ren and Tink too. He was so freaking adorable (which reminds of another book). Even though I wasn't surprised, the ending kept me curious enough to want to read the next book ASAP. I hope the next one would be better.

PS: the cover is supposed to match the main characters descriptions. Or at least that's what I think.

Chapter One
Sweat dotted my brow. Tendrils of red hair clung to my neck. My legs felt like I’d been sitting in a sauna. I was pretty sure there was a waterfall of sweat coursing between my breasts, and that alone put my mood somewhere between slapping someone and pushing them in front of a trolley.
It was so hot and sticky humid that I was seriously beginning to believe that New Orleans was one of the seven circles of hell and the outdoor seating area of the Palace Café was the gateway. Or the waiting room.
A fat drop of sweat slipped from the tip of my nose and smacked off my Philosophy of Human Person text, leaving a little damp circle in the middle of a paragraph I could barely see through the sheen of sweat blinding me.
I always thought the title of my class was missing an ‘A’ somewhere in there. It should be Philosophy of A Human Person. But oh no, that wasn’t how Loyola rolled.
The small table rattled on its legs as a large iced coffee slammed down directly in front of my book. “For you!”
As I peered over the top of my sunglasses, my mouth watered like I was one of Pavlov’s dogs. Valerie Adrieux plopped into the seat across from me, her hand like a claw on top of my iced coffee. A mix of Spanish and African heritage, Val had an absolutely beautiful skin tone, a rich and flawless shade of brown, and she looked awesome in bright oranges and blues and pinks and every freaking color of the rainbow.
Like today, Val wore a loose, orange halter that defied gravity, a purple necklace, and as I glanced down, I saw a turquoise peasant skirt. She looked as if she had stepped off a catalog featuring urban chic. If I wore any color other than black, tan, or gray, I looked like an asylum escapee.
Sitting up straight, ignoring how the backs of my thighs stuck to the chair, I made grabby fingers at the iced coffee. “Gimmie.”
She arched a brow. In the sunlight, Val’s hair had a burnt auburn sheen to it. Pretty. Mine looked like a fire engine. Scary. No matter the level of humidity, her head full of corkscrew curls always looked great. Again, pretty. Between the months of April and November, the curl in my hair got lazy and turned into a frizzy wave. Again, scary as hell.
Sometimes I wanted to hate her.
“Don’t you have something else to add to that?” she asked.
This was one of those times.
“Gimmie . . . my precious?” I added.
She grinned. “Try again.”
“Thank you?” I wiggled my fingers toward the coffee.
She shook her head.
I dropped my hands in my lap with a tired sigh. “Can you point me in the right direction of what you want to hear? Play a game of hot and cold or something?”
“While I love that game most of the time, I’m gonna pass.” Lifting the iced coffee between us, she smiled broadly at me. “The correct response would be, ‘I love you so much for getting me iced coffee that I’d do anything for you.’” She waggled her brows. “Yeah, that sounds about right.”
Leaning back in my chair, I laughed as I kicked my legs onto the empty seat to my left, stretching out the muscles. The reason I was probably sweating so much was because I was wearing lace-up boots that ended just below my knees and it was like two-hundred degrees, but I was working tonight, and flip-flops really weren’t conducive to getting the job done or hiding the things necessary to get said job done. “You know I can totally just kick your ass and take the coffee, right?”
Val stuck out her lower lip. “That’s not nice, Ivy.”
I grinned at her. “It’s true though. I could ninja-kick your ass all up and down Canal Street.”
“Maybe, but you would never do such a thing because I’m your best-est friend-est in the world-est,” she said with another wide smile, and she was right. “Okay. What I want isn’t a big deal.” She moved the straw jutting out of the iced tea close to her mouth, and I groaned. “Not at all.”
“What do you want?” My second groan was lost in the hum of foot traffic passing the café, and the sound of sirens most likely heading toward the Quarter.
Val shrugged one shoulder. “I have a date Saturday night—a hot date. Well, hopefully a hot date, but Daniel has me on the schedule to work the Quarter, so . . .?”
“So, let me guess.” I reached behind me, draping my arms over the back of the chair. Not the most comfortable position, but it helped me air out. “You want me to take your shift in the Quarter . . . on a Saturday night? In September. Smack dab in tourist hell?”
Her head bobbed an enthusiastic yes. “Please. Pretty please?” She shook the iced coffee, and the chunks of ice rattled in the plastic container enticingly. “Please?”
My gaze moved from her hopeful face to the iced coffee and stayed there. “Sure. Why not? Not like I have a hot date.”
“Yay!” She shoved the coffee forward, and I snatched it out of the air a half second before she dropped it. A heartbeat later, I was slurping away happily, totally transported to a chilly, caffeinated heaven. “You know,” she began, placing her elbows on the table, “you could have a hot date, if like, you went out on a date once every year or so.”
I ignored that comment and continued drinking at brain freeze speed.
“You’re really pretty, even with all that hair.” She made a circle with her hand in the general vicinity of my head as if I didn’t know I looked like a Q-tip with my hair piled atop it. “And you have really great boobs and a total tap-that-ass kind of ass. I’d totally do you.”
I continued to ignore her as a dull ache started behind my eyes. I so needed to slow down on the coffee, but it was so damn good.
“Do you even like boys, Ivy? You know, I swing both ways. I’m more than willing to help a girl out.”
I rolled my eyes then immediately winced. Lowering the iced coffee, I pressed my palm to my forehead. “Ow.”
Val snorted.
“I like boys,” I grumbled as the icepick sensation faded. “And can we not talk about boys or swinging both ways or helping me out? Because this conversation is going to lead to the lack of orgasms in my life and how I need to get naked with some random dude, and I’m not really in the mood to talk about that.”
“What do you want to talk about then?”
Taking a slower sip of the coffee, I eyed her. “How come you’re not sweating?”
Val tipped her chin back and laughed so loudly an older couple strolling by with matching fanny packs stared at her. “Babe, I’m born and raised in Louisiana. My family can be traced back to the original French settlers—”
“Blah, blah. Does that somehow mean you have some kind of magical ability that makes you absolutely resistant to the heat while I’m drowning in my own funk?”
“Can take the girl out of the north but can’t take the north out of the girl.”
I snorted at that. It was true. Having moved to New Orleans only three years ago from northern Virginia, I still hadn’t adapted to the weather. “Do you know what I’d do for a polar vortex right about now?”
“Not have sex, that’s for sure.”
I flipped her off. Truthfully, I didn’t even know why I didn’t miss a single day when it came to taking my birth control pills. I guessed it was habit from when it actually mattered.
She giggled as she leaned against the table, her dark brown eyes surveying my philosophy book. “I just do not get why you’re going to college.”
“Why not?”
The look on her face suggested the heat had fried a few of my brain cells. “You already have a job—a job that pays extraordinarily well, and you don’t really need to get another one like some of the others do. We don’t have a lot of bennies, and we have probably the shortest lifespan of any job out there that doesn’t involve sky diving without a parachute, but that’s another reason to not waste your time on that crap.”
My shrug was my response. To be honest, I wasn’t sure why I started going to Loyola a year ago. Maybe it was boredom. Maybe it was the weird need to do something most twenty-one-year-olds were doing. Or maybe it ran deeper than that, and whatever that was, was the reason behind taking sociology with a psychology minor. I toyed with the idea of being a social worker, because I knew I could do both things if I wanted to. Maybe it had to do with what happened to—
I cut those thoughts off. No reason to go there today, or any day. The past was in the past, dead and buried with the entirety of my family.

Not even bothering with a long review.

Predictable.
So predictable.
Fucking awful. I could tell what would happen and in what order after 50 pages and oh-wow, it happened exactly like that. Damn, that was beyond boring.
Ivy's insta-lust and Ren's oh-so-clever remarks. It was nice with Damon, you know? It was tolerable in Sentinel, but pulling off the same shit in a third series? No. Just no.
And then the plot twists and Ivy's brilliant ideas?

The only character I liked was Merle. And even she was kinda...predictable. Every character fit into a certain box, and the events and revelations as well as plot twists were simply dull. You have the same scenario in 90% of the Paranormal NA.

During the first 10% (which took me several days to read because I kept falling asleep), I really thought this book was going to annoy me. Ivy’s narration was a bit over the top for my taste. But, then she went home and started up some A+ witty banter with her unusual roommate and then suddenly it was 2am and I’m staring at my bedroom ceiling trying not to go into cardiac arrest because omgthatending and holyshitRenOwens.

I’m pretty positive this is the first time I’ve encountered a book where the male lead knows how to communicate. Ren knows what he wants (😏) and he makes it clear the entire way through (😏😏). He’s observant, so he notices when Ivy is overthinking or feeling insecure, and he makes sure to be completely upfront (😏😏😏) so she doesn’t let anxiety twist situations around in her head.

Ivy’s roommate, Tink, is basically my new BFF. He’s sarcastic, addicted to carbs, watches trash reality tv, and loves Harry Potter.

The plot is really what snuck up on me. I didn’t realize how invested I was until I got to the big ending and was legitimately nervous about how everything was going to go down. I thought I was just here for the spice, BUT I GUESS NOT. I’m pleased.

I can't say that the ending was shocking or anything, but OH MY that doesn't mean I'm by any means okay with it!

Even though I love Jennifer L. Armentrout and I adore or at least like all of her books , I was quite anxious going into this one. Excited, but anxious. There is always the chance that you won't like a book that much, even, no ESPECIALLY, if you love the author.
Wicked sounded interesting, but not that promising.
So, now I'm even happier to be able to tell you: I absolutely loved this book!

For me it was always clear that Jennifer's strength doesn't lie in plot, but characters! I am always able to not only love them as persons but feel WITH them and that is exactly the reason why I love her books!
Wicked was definitely no exception.

Ivy and Ren were simply amazing. As individuals, but as a couple as well.
Like I said before the story in itself is good , but not special at all. That is something you definitely have to keep in mind going into this book.
I, however, didn't mind that at all. I was entertained, the writing was easy and hilarous (also Harry Potter and Game of Thrones references y'all), the story had a fast pacing and I just can't wait to read the next installment!

Next to the Lux series A Wicked Saga might become my favourite Armentrout series!

So... I started reading Wicked thinking this would be the book I vote for on goodreads Choice Awards 2015. But nope, not me. This book feels like Karen Marie Moning's Fever ugly stepsister. I tried telling myself it's me and not the book. But that's not true. Everything seems forced and underdeveloped in Wicked.

Ok, what's the book about? Faeries, evil faeries, and the Order, a secret group of people trained to hunt them down and kill them. Merida Ivy is such a warrior. She falls in love with Ren, a member of the secret group Elite within the secret Order. All the while there's a faerie apocalypse coming.

The nice, interesting thing is that they are both apparently human. No girl-fae impossible love. I didn't think that possible in a book and expected Ren to be some undercover supernatural being, but

I also have a problem with Ren using the F word so often and in all forms. And most of the times I feel he's using it at all the wrong moments. It's like the action is making him appear a frustrated teenager instead of a man. Ivy seems also a teenager in spite of her age, what she reads and the shows she likes. Her putting it all on loosing her former boyfriend all those years ago is not so convincing. Had there been a love triangle, too, I would have said this is definitely a young adult book.

The best characteristic of Wicked is Tink ! He is to die for!

"Let's talk about sex."
"No." Rolling my eyes, I walked away.
"Sex is good!"
"Shut up, Tink."
"Sex is fun!" he continued to shout.
I shook my head. "The only thing you're having sex with is inanimate objects, so what do you know?"
He ignored me. "Sex is best when it's one on one!"

There are also a lot of references in the book. Some of the best belong to Tink, of course.

Grabbing a scarf off the chair, I threw it at him. He caught it, clutching it to his chest as he flew into the air. "You gave Tink a scarf. Tink is free!" He flew out into the hallway like a little cracked-out fairy, screeching, "Tink is freeeeee!"

There should have been more Tink scenes. He's the reason I'm giving the book 2 stars and not 1.

All in all, I'm unsure if I'll continue reading the series or not. What I can say is that if you're looking for a good urban fantasy/paranormal book, you should try Darkfever or Halfway to the Grave.
