Worth the wait!
Beyond Oblivion is the long-awaited sequel to Beautiful Oblivion , continuing Trenton Maddox and Camille Camlin’s story, now a few years into their marriage and told in dual POV. I wasn’t sure what to expect—I just knew I wanted more Maddox family content, and this book absolutely delivered.
Returning to the Maddox world felt like coming home. Even though the timeline is a bit tricky (I had to revisit A Beautiful Funeral to refresh my memory), the emotional payoff was huge. If you're trying to read chronologically, I recommend reading Beyond Oblivion up to the final chapter, then switching to A Beautiful Funeral, and only afterward reading the epilogue. Trust me, it makes way more sense that way.
Was the wait worth it? For me—absolutely. It's been nearly a decade since this book was first announced (2015!), and while that gap might leave some readers feeling disconnected, I think it gave the author time to develop something richer. There’s a noticeable maturity in this installment, especially in how Camille is written.
Let’s talk about Cami. She’s long been one of the fandom’s most controversial characters—mainly due to her past with both Trenton and Thomas. She was involved with both Maddox brothers at the same time, and yes, it was messy. Still, they found a way through it. Yet, lingering trust issues remain, especially with exes now part of the family.
One thing that bothered me a bit was Thomas in this one. He clearly still cares about Cami—not romantically, but as someone important from his past. Still, things like rubbing her arms if she's cold or giving her his jacket, while likely innocent, blur boundaries. Trent picks up on this and at times questions whether Cami’s feelings for Thomas are truly resolved. That kind of doubt doesn’t fully fade, and it made me feel most for Liis. She’s not openly jealous, but I’d be wary in her shoes. She handles it with remarkable strength.
As for Cami herself, she’s been criticized for not deserving Trent because of her past, particularly how she behaved in A Beautiful Funeral. But let’s face it: Trent loves her deeply. He worships the ground she walks on. He says it himself—she could cheat or rob him, and he’d still love her. So, we have to respect his choice. This book gave me a new perspective on Cami, it really softened me toward her. Despite her past, she’s fully integrated into the Maddox family and found her place. We didn’t see her often in the role she played here—how she helped keep the family together and how much she cared for Papa Jim on top of working at Skin Deep Tattoo. We see Cami as a wife, a caretaker, a support system, and someone who genuinely loves and fights for her family. Her infertility struggles and miscarriage added weight and realism to her arc. I knew going in that she didn’t have a baby in A Beautiful Funeral, but seeing it unfold still hit hard.
That said, there are a few timeline inconsistencies between this book and A Beautiful Funeral. They didn’t ruin the experience for me, just made me wish the series had been planned with a bit more continuity in mind:
1. Cami and Trent’s Infertility Struggles: In Beyond Oblivion, Cami and Trent have been seeing doctors regularly for their fertility issues, and it’s well known among their friends. Yet, in A Beautiful Funeral, they seem to still be “just trying.” Abby’s behavior also feels too harsh in light of what she should have known about Cami’s infertility and miscarriage. Additionally, at the end of Beyond Oblivion, Cami and Trent decide to stop trying for a year and avoid pregnancy tests, but in A Beautiful Funeral, which takes place only about a month or two after Beyond Oblivion (three months tops), it’s revealed that they have been taking pregnancy tests monthly. It doesn’t add up. By the end of Beyond Oblivion, Liis is heavily pregnant and about to give birth to Stella, showing that the timeline doesn’t align with the pregnancy test gap stated in Beyond Oblivion as A Beautiful Funeral opens with Liis having just given birth to Stella. Plus, Cami’s avoidance of doctors out of fear of being told something is permanently wrong in A Beautiful Funeral feels out of place when she’s about to undergo a hysterectomy in Beyond Oblivion.
2. Liis and Thomas' Relationship: In A Beautiful Funeral, they’re engaged, but this book strongly implies they’re already married.
3. Trent’s Knowledge of Falyn: By A Beautiful Funeral, Trent knows that Falyn is Olive’s biological mother, and the book makes it seem like he’s known for much longer. However, in this book he doesn't know that despite it ending around two or three months prior. It's unclear why he wouldn’t have told Cami about this, especially since that doesn’t align with his character. Cami seems completely unaware of this fact.
4. Trent’s Reaction to Cami’s Secrets: In A Beautiful Funeral, Trent is devastated that Cami never told him about Thomas or Travis. However, this reaction feels inconsistent with Beyond Oblivion, where he had already partly figured out that Thomas and Travis were in the FBI—and he knew that Cami was aware of it too.
5. Cami’s Car Accident: The book calls it “a few years ago,” but it’s been closer to a decade. That’s a pretty big stretch.
These details, while minor on their own, add up when the books are read back-to-back. It’s understandable—A Beautiful Funeral came out eight years ago—but the disconnects, especially around Cami and Trent, make the inconsistency more noticeable.
Let’s not forget Liis. She deserves a whole paragraph. I adore her. She’s a powerhouse—in the final stages of pregnancy and still kicking ass. Her strength, patience (especially with Cami and Thomas’s shared past), and unwavering loyalty make her a standout. Honestly, Thomas doesn’t deserve her. Never did. But I’m beyond excited their story is next in Beyond Redemption.
As for Trenton, he defines ride-or-die. He’s loyal, attentive, emotionally raw—he loves Cami without hesitation. Sure, some of his reactions to Thomas might feel extreme, but that vulnerability only made me root for him harder. He’s endured so much and still clings to love with everything he’s got.
Plot-wise, the book follows two main threads. First, Madison Davis—Mackenzie’s younger sister—suddenly returns. (Reminder: Mackenzie was Trenton’s college girlfriend who died in a car accident she caused.) Madison is mentally unstable and fixated on Trenton, jealous of Cami and determined to sabotage their marriage. It added plenty of drama.
The second plot ties into the mafia storyline with Benny Carlisi, the Vegas crime boss. Travis, Thomas, and Liis have been working on the case for years, and the Carlisis strike back through Madison, targeting Trent and Cami. I found the story really thrilling. There were moments that had my heart racing. It added tension and excitement, and I enjoyed how the story mixed romance with FBI intrigue. It kept me hooked the whole way through.
The romance between Trent and Cami is beautifully portrayed, striking a good balance between emotional vulnerability and heat.
I was really rooting for Kody back in Beautiful Oblivion, so I was surprised to see that Reagan’s love interest is now Wesley. Finding out that Kody gambled away their savings—which led to their breakup—was shocking. That said, Wesley is dreamy, especially in the way he adores Reagan. Both Reagan and Hazel were great characters, but Hazel especially stood out—she was hilarious and helped ground the more intense scenes.
And that epilogue—what a setup. Clearly hinting at the next generation. We’re getting Beyond Redemption (Thomas & Liis), Beyond Sacrifice (Taylor & Falyn), and Beyond the Burn (Tyler & Ellie), and then it looks like we’ll be diving into the kids’ stories. I’m ready.
Personally, I’m most excited for Beyond Redemption—Liis is my favorite, and Jamie confirmed it’s next in the Beautiful Disaster Universe! I’m also looking forward to Beyond Sacrifice—I love Falyn… even though I’m still mad she stayed with Taylor. If he suffers a bit and grovels in their book, I’ll be satisfied. Let’s be honest—it’ll probably be the most drama-filled one, and I’m all for that.
The arrival of Oliver Maddox—Trent and Cami’s miracle baby—was incredibly moving. After everything they went through, seeing them get their happy ending felt so well-earned. Naming him after Olive was such a sweet tribute. It made the epilogue hit even harder and brought the story full circle.
In loving memory of Olive, whose name lives on through little Oliver. 🕊️
Also—can we talk about that cover? It’s hands-down my favorite in the series. Stunning, and totally captures the book’s mood.
If you’ve been waiting for this one, go in with an open heart—and maybe refresh A Beautiful Funeral first. It’s emotional, chaotic, romantic, and messy—in all the best Maddox ways. 💙

I'm not going to read this book bc everyone knows how problematic the author is, but this is the first time I wish the MMC would cheat on the FMC!! I hate this bitch so much.

I wanted to love it like the rest of the books but this one just felt wrong. Why continue with a story that was finished? The books does very little to support the series.

So in love with this newest addition to the Maddox Brothers books! Cami was never my favorite person. Although I've always adored Trent, this book completely won me over for Cami.
Cami is smart and kind and so thoughtful, but she's also tough and stubborn and gets it done, and she's able to see through the lies and manipulations going on around her and Trent. Uncovering family secrets? Check! Winning over Abby and even Liis? Check! Proving her love for and devotion to Trent while still respecting her and Thomas's past, and setting everyone straight about it all? Check, check, check!

Beautiful love story
It's been awhile since a book has come out from this author and as usual, she didn't disappoint. This book has both Camille and Trent's pov. Their story has love, suspense, and heartbreak. They have to deal with Camille not being able to conceive, Trent having a crazy stalker, and secrets within the family. When tragedy does strike, Trent pulls away from everyone and almost destroys what he loves most. The ending was a beautiful way to end their story but I hope there is more, like from the next generation of Maddox

This took me forever to get through. Jumping back into this world after Beautiful Funeral, the book felt so off going back in time like that.
I feel like I read it specifically for the epilogue.
Trenton is my favorite brother, but man, I had zero swoon for him this time around with this depressing story line.

Listen, it took me over a decade to finally finish reading this series. I did it. I did not enjoy the latter half of the series at all. There also seemed to be a strange angry-ish vibe that entered into this universe that really put me off most of the characters (even established ones) and story lines. It also took way too long to finish the "mystery/crime" drama angle of the series. More importantly, there comes a point when I don't need to meet all the established characters progeny. There's a lot and it turns into a rather irritating bunch of nonsense.
So, okay, I finally get to this most recent release, and I have read this sentiment in a few reviews already, but there's no reason for this book's plot/story/character development to exist. I don't mean the book shouldn't exist. In fact, I would make a case that this book should exist, but it should reside in the already established timeline the series has dictated. I would have loved to read more about the grieving process of losing a particular character (happened in the previous book) because it was shocking that that character was killed off.
I don't want to bash the author. They can write what they want, but, if you loved what thematically sorta seemed like the end of the series, I would question whether you should read this installment. It's not really that great, is confusing as hell, and ends rather abruptly.

Trigger warnings!!! - infertility, detailed threatened miscarriage and miscarriage.
Would have rated this book higher had the author put trigger warnings somewhere. Now I knew it dealt with infertility based on the description but not the miscarriage. I have been through both and while I appreciate an author actually put this in a book I think for others just picking it up they should know about it.
I’ve read all the books in this series and have always enjoyed the Maddox brothers and their stories. While a little chaotic, they are always raw and emotional and cami and Trent were no different. I feel like before you read this you should go back and read beautiful funeral. I may need to go back and read it because it’s been so long since I have. It may help tie some pieces together. Some parts of this book felt disjointed and didn’t all go together but I did still enjoy being back in the world of the Maddox brothers.
Also don’t watch the movies if you don’t want to picture those characters in your head because I just recently tried watching beautiful wedding and ugh it was rough.

It was amazing!!!!! Everything and more!!!! SOOOOOO GOOD!!!! I was torn apart and put back together in the best way!! I loved getting to wrap myself in the Maddox world again. I’ve missed all the characters and loved every moment and conversations!!! The Maddox men are all grown up!! Even sexier than before and I am here for it all!!
Cami is a rockstar!! I never had issues with her but know she got shade. She got to shine in this one and actually feels like the head woman of the family not Abby!! Wow, just wow! OMG Jamie, you’ve done it again! If I could give this book 10 stars, I would give it 20. The Maddox family is an absolutely amazing crew. I love Trent and Camille as much as I did Travis and Abby. Their struggles were so real. I love the way Camille read Madison’s intentions. I love the Man Trent became. He was an amazing, husband, loyal, attentive, and loving. Camille had so much patience and love for him. It made my heart sing. I’m so upset though. No, where does it tell me what happened to Jim and olive. How could you just dump that on us with no explanation?? I hope that means that soon there will be another book that will fill us in… I hate this feeling of upheaval and the unknown. Hurry, Jamie, please!

I loved this book because I am so invested in all things Maddox family. Trent was one of my favorites, aside from Travis and I loved reading about he and Cami’s adult, married life. I will say, I’ve read all of these books so spread out that it’s made me enjoy it less because I can’t always remember the details from 10 years ago when I started- so that’s why it gets a 4 instead of 5 star for me. I had to stop to look up certain details from the other books to remember what happened.
But, I did enjoy reading this one and it made me consider rereading the whole series again. Cami and Trenton’s love story is so pure and genuine and they are always there for the good and the ugly. Reading about real adult problems and struggles has my heart aching for the characters.

This was just what my heart needed! Trenton & Cami Maddox are back, and better than ever! I loved that the timeline for the Maddox brothers books jumped ahead a couple of years, but the events take place before A Beautiful Funeral. I really appreciated the gentle approach to topics of infertility, and I always appreciate anyone bringing the topic of endometriosis to the horizon. As someone who struggles with it herself, I could really relate with Cami's struggles. Her strength and resilience in the whole book was amazing to read. And she's more than earned her place among the Maddox's. I also appreciated seeing cameo appearances of the other characters from the series!

I love Trenton. And whilst Cami annoyed me last time I liked her in this book. Her quiet strength. Their banter. Her love for Jim. Obviously I've read beautiful funeral so I keep waiting for that to collide with this book I'm both glad it didn't and annoyed that we skipped over it haha. I just felt like the jump between the dessert and the end was too big and I needed to see Trenton Grieve Jim and Olive. I'm still pissed they were taken out so that's why you get 4 stars instead of 5 Jamie. Ew would have been the best with a baby of Trenton's. Still want more daddy Trenton thanks. Ended too soon lol

I really, really wanted to love this book as I have all the other Maddox Bros. books but it was very difficult for me since I already read Beautiful Funeral and kind of already knew what was gonna happen. I didn’t have any incentive to quickly read threw it. I finished every other book in one sitting. Kind of wish this came out before Beautiful Funeral. That would of been a huge difference and would of earned a 5 ⭐️ for me! The timing of it all was just off for my liking. Did enjoy the epilogue, though!

Another fantastic installment of the Maddox Brothers series! I missed them! This is the continuation of Trent’s and Camille’s story as they struggle to get pregnant while everyone around them can. Their marriage is tested because of this and the secrets Cami is hiding. There is the underlying suspense that continues from the other stories which is a great tie in. Loved the epilogue which tied into Beautiful Funeral which is the next story. I hope we will see more of the Maddox family in the near future!

Totally wonderful to be embroiled in those Maddox boys and woman again. The humour and quips are as fast as ever, and the detail and emotions are so real. There is a journey of many ways, one being loss, another trust, another drama, totally out of the past. The way needing a baby is covered is so accurate. All the Maddox families are expanding, but Trenton and Camille. Not from want of trying. Tragedy sticks, and truths are revealed about other characters, but there is a fabulous ending that leaves the reader both happy but said. A long wait but most certainly worth it.

I need a moment to just reel in all of my emotions. Jaw dropping with pure shock. That's what I feel when I finally finished this book. I've been invested with the Maddox since book one but dang, Jamie out did it again. I mean, I knew the outcome and it was so good to see a different perspective but dang, she hit every single emotion more than once. Oh and the unanswered questions. I'm going to have book withdrawal for a week.

where do I start… well it was nice to re-visit one of my favorite couples but the whole story line and plot was a little ridiculous and rushed. and I’m sorry but the end? killing olive was UNNECESSARY and ruined the epilogue for me. I was very confused (because I didn't read the previous book), why all the characters were alive throughout the whole book and then in the epilogue two characters (who didn't make any sense on the plot for dying) had died. wtf was that?

I was so worried that this book would be a pointless addition to the series, I didn't realize how bad I needed it. Trent and Cami were my 3rd favorite couple in the Maddox brothers. Even still, I loved every second of this book.

Absolutely love this series and was so thrilled to head back into the world. Was disappointed that it went back in so far to the storyline. Happy they finally got their ending but would have rather had the story start there than end.

I have loved this series and all of the characters in it. The hardest part of me has been the story timelines with the order the books have been released. I think once the author is done adding to the series I will work to reread the entire series in timeline order.

I love this series! I was so glad to get back into Cami & Trent’s story. This book was full of so much love, heartache, tears, laughter and reminiscing. Loved it!

Of course I dove into this series after the amazement that was the Beautiful series with the story of Abby and Travis, and wanting to follow the brothers on their own crazy, energetic, steamy journies was addicting! Frothing at the mouth for every real!
