Spicy fun
Spicy fun, this didn’t take itself too seriously, and that made it an easy, bingeable read. This couple had chemistry from the moment they met, so it wasn't long before the heat was dialed up a notch with tons of tension-filled moments. Perhaps too many, honestly, but I'm really not complaining. It’s got a bad boy/good girl pairing that’s a classic for a reason, with an adorably insecure hero who is convinced that he’s not good enough for his girl. What starts as a fling turns into something else entirely, and it was a sexy, fast-paced ride from start to finish. It was a solid 4-star read for me the whole way through - a few things rubbed me the wrong way, but it was very entertaining overall.
The story follows Jessa, a woman who is visiting a small town for her best friend’s wedding. After a mixup, Jessa finds herself staying with the bride’s cousin while she’s in town. Remy is the town playboy and a brash, heartbreaker of a man. He doesn’t hide his interest in Jessa, but his over-the-top antics don’t seem to work on her - at first. That’s because her longtime crush is in town for the wedding too, and Jessa is convinced that now is the time they’ll finally become something more. But instead of focusing on her crush, Jessa can’t seem to stop growing closer to Remy, and that’s sure to cause trouble for everyone involved.
So I actually read the blurb and interpreted it completely different, thinking the best friend’s cousin and longtime crush were the same person. That’s not the case, so I can’t say that I liked the love triangle aspect, though it was clear from the start that Remy was the guy for Jessa. Most of my hangups about the story revolve around how long the crush was in the picture, and how inappropriate some of Jessa’s actions were if she truly did intend to start up something with him. Other than that, I really did enjoy this. It was light, SUPER spicy, and totally playful. Remy was also a great hero, the kind of cocky guy who hides his vulnerability behind a bold personality. He was gone for Jessa from the moment they met, and I loved that. Their connection was largely sexual with some more serious undertones, and I wouldn’t have minded a few more moments of emotional connection, but the spice was fun too. This is definitely the spicest book I’ve read from Hart, but that kept the story light, bright, and easygoing.
