Taken by the Alien Triton King

Rate this book
One minute, I am studying alien plants. The next, I am thrown over the shoulder of a blue-scaled king who refuses to let me go.

SamanthaLanding on planet Sanos was supposed to secure humanity’s future. Instead, it became a fight for survival. One moment, I was studying alien plants—then explosions shattered our negotiations. Before I could react, a towering, scaled warrior threw me over his shoulder and carried me into the ocean’s depths.

Kaerius, King of the Ondrithar, is as infuriating as he is mesmerizing. He calls me “mate” like it’s already decided, like I belong to him. But I refuse to be anyone’s captive. If I want to survive, I’ll have to fight—whether that means escaping or standing at his side.

KaeriusI had no use for the humans—until I saw her. From the moment I laid eyes on Samantha, instincts older than reason roared to life. She is mine. She just doesn’t know it yet.

I saved her from the attack, bringing her to my kingdom, where my word is law. But Sanos is dangerous, and my enemies watch my every move. Keeping her safe means keeping her close. And if she tries to run? She’ll learn nothing escapes the grasp of the Triton King.

This spicy sci-fi romance is part of the Abducted by the Ruthless Planet Sanos series and can be read as a standalone. It features one ruthless Triton king and a curious human scientist. Guaranteed HEA!

I don't normally read novellas but every now and then I enjoy a shorter book and Robin O'Connor never disappoints. The plot is pretty straightforward and I liked that there's actual chemistry between the characters, not just plain lust. The court drama was interesting and the spice was spicing!

"Listen to me very carefully, I'm a nerdy lab rat, NOT an adventuress!"

Samantha is one of seven human women allowed to leave Earth aboard the USS Legacy to go to Planet Sanos to try and sign a treaty to allow them to rebuild their lives on this planet.

They've just landed on the beach, and she's seeing a blue sky for the first time in ages. A tent is set up on the beach for them. They'd been told that several species of aliens, all of whom live in the water, live on Sanos. The only aliens she sees are Quxon, an imposing, tall, blue species. Are they the only ones wanting to negotiate with them?

She's too keyed up to enter the tent after being in stasis for so long. She and Imogen, who had been in the pod next to her, decide to do a little exploring first. As a xenobotanist, she wants to collect plant specimens to examine. They aren't too far into the wooded area when there's an explosion on the beach. Suddenly two somewhat humanoid aliens appear near them; one is glittering azure with red jagged shapes topping his head, and the other is as dark as night. She thought maybe the red shapes were a crown. Could he be a king there to negotiate? Although both aliens were surprised to see the women, the "king" grabbed her, tossed her over his shoulder, and took off running.

The other alien, Krak’zol, was of the Ondrithar species: deep-sea dwellers who reside in the Sanos Abyss. When he grabbed Imogen, he ran off in another direction. Unlike her, she was too scared to react; Imogen was screaming and cursing at her captor.

She finally recognized her captor as being from the Ondrithar species, and the name he had given her, Kaerius, was the name of their king. As he begins to wade into the water, she screams at him that she can't breathe underwater.

Earth's water is so polluted that she had never been immersed in water. On Earth there had only been rare, rationed water showers; a dry foam was the norm for "bathing."

Neither Kaerius nor Krak’zol, the other alien with him when they ran into Samantha and Imogen, was in favor of allowing land-dwelling humans to settle on Sanos, which is mainly water. Distrust had the two males arriving on the far side of the island's meeting place. Both had been fascinated by the land-living females. Grabbing Samantha had nothing to do with diplomacy or treaties. He took her because he wanted her, pure and simple. His ancestors would be appalled at how low he'd sunk.

Kaerius considers humans to be pretty worthless. They have no scales, no gills, no claws on their hands, and probably none on their toes since her feet were encased in boots, and how can they eat with those blunt teeth? This human seems to be quite a weakling — an Ondrithar female would try to kill any male who would even hint that she might need help.

Yet there's something about her that calls to him, even arouses him. Just as he's thinking that she's not what he needs, he hears in his head the whispering voice of his dead brother, Morven, that maybe she's exactly what he needs.

Samantha and Kaerius . . .

The backstory here begins with the fact Earth’s oceans have become poisonous to humans. Pure water is scarce. In a desperate effort to save humanity, we have sent down a capsule from the generational spaceship USS Legacy with 7 human women to land on Planet Sanos to negotiate a future for the humans of Earth. Will they succeed? (Dare I ask, will we ruin their water too?)

Samantha, the Earth botanist, was studying the fascinating alien plants. She was going to head into the woods to examine the plants there but wanted to let Imogen know where she was exploring. Imogen insisted on going with her for their safety. Sudden explosions and phaserfire shattered the start of the negotiations. Two huge aliens came into the woods, one blue and one dark as night. Samantha was thrown over the shoulder of the blue-scaled warrior king who refused to let her go as he carried her into the ocean! She was being rescued by Kaerius, King of the Ondrithar, who calls her his “mate” as if she belonged to him! Imogen was fighting hard against the other alien but he carried her in the opposite direction of where Samantha was taken. She saw a fire blazing beyond the trees. The alien who held her was heading toward the water, but she didn’t know if he realized she couldn’t breathe if he took her under. He did take her under the water as she fought in terror, then looked in her eyes and something changed before she blacked out.

When Kaerius realizes Samantha is his mate, how will he deal with those of his people who won’t like having a human live there? Will they change their minds when Samantha shows them the value she can provide to them when an enemy, the Shadefins with their bioluminescent spores, become bolder and attack Kaerius’ harvesters? Even as her own life is at stake, she continues to fight for them and deal with their enemy, trying to find a way to drive the Shadefin back into the Abyss where they belonged. Will she succeed? Will she stay with Kaerius? Or will she choose to return to the ship if she does survive?

He took her from the surface. She might be the only one who can save what's left beneath it.

Samantha arrives on the ocean planet Sanos to help secure a future for humanity. She doesn’t expect to be captured by Kaerius, the king of an underwater alien race facing extinction. He claims she’s his fated mate. She calls it a mistake. But when political tensions rise and a deadly threat spreads through the depths, neither of them can afford to walk away.

Trapped in a world of pressure, legacy, and control, Samantha refuses to be a symbol. Kaerius sees more than prophecy or politics. He sees someone who challenges him, someone strong enough to stand beside him. When betrayal cuts close and her life is nearly taken, he makes a choice that changes everything.

Their connection becomes a lifeline. As danger escalates and loyalties fracture, Samantha turns to science and Kaerius to instinct. What they discover could save a kingdom—or cost them more than they're ready to lose. Not everyone wants peace. Not everyone survives the deep.

Samantha grows from cautious scientist to decisive leader, learning to trust herself in a world that never asked for her. Kaerius, shaped by duty and loss, finds strength not in control but in connection.

Their bond, once rooted in conflict, becomes something real—built on trust, protection, and the choice to fight for each other.

Hot and steamy alien-human, fated mates, sci-fi romance, exploring love, survival, trust, identity, cultural conflict, political intrigue, loyalty, power shifts, sacrifice, adaptation, and resilience. Not just a love story, but a fight for something worth building.

Taken by the Alien Triton King by Robin O’Connor

Did you ever dream you could breathe underwater? I did, and I thought that dream was perhaps equal to the times I dreamed I was flying.

This author always provides me with an escape the mundane sweeping me off to another one where humans fall in love with alien fated mates. I put myself into the scene and am usually thinking about “what if it were me?” as I read.

Samantha, an exobiologist, studies alien flora and fauna who will find that her knowledge and skills will be valuable on plant Sanot. She will become the mate of a king and will find her purpose in life. She will also live my dream of being able to breathe under and move smoothly through water. The alien king that claims, Kaerius, is able to shift between a fishy body and a more human one but in either form he knows that Samantha is his. There are a few issues the couple must deal with that include jealousy, political intrigue, and deadly underwater killers; and they do so decidedly before settling in for their happily ever after.

The USS Legacy that landed with Samantha and others on board are searching for a safe place to settle and it seems there are more books by a number of other authors that have stories to tell of these women finding their fated mates, too.

Thank you to the author and BookFunnel for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Taken by the Alien Triton King is part of the Abducted by the Ruthless Royal series & can be read as a standalone.

Earth has more or less become uninhabitable & society is searching the stars for another home…even if it means negotiating for some land on the water-world of Sanos.

Samantha is a botanist & part of the team that heads down to the surface to start talks with various leaders of the planet, but instead of heading into the talks…she & one other scientist wander into the woods just behind the shore…

Needless to say…things don’t go as ‘planned’…the site is attacked…but Samantha is ‘rescued’ by Kaerius, King of the Ondrithar, who takes her back to his realm beneath the waves…

There…she finds that he has stated that they’re ‘mates’…but there are those in the shadows that would like to see him fail…not to mention there is the Shadefin…an enemy that Kaerius & his people are desperate to defeat…

Can they navigate their different worlds? Will they find something that can stand up to the Shadefin? The answers are in the pages of Taken by the Alien Triton King.

Four stars…I knew that this was a standalone book in the series, and that it really wouldn’t mention the other members of the team…so now I’ll be looking to get the other books…not to mention looking to see when the ‘finale’ comes out—because I’m super curious to know whether or not a treaty is agreed upon…

Taken by the Alien Triton King tells the story of human scientist Samantha who along with six other women has arrived on the planet Sanos on a mission to negotiate a deal with it’s rulers for humans to settle on the mostly water planet.

But not everyone on Sanos is happy about the prospect of having humans living there.

MFC Samantha decides to do a little quick exploring before the meeting starts, fascinated by the beautiful alien flora surrounding her and itching to grab some samples.

An explosion and chaos soon shatters the peace and she finds herself flung over the shoulder of one of the alien kings attending the talks.

Kaerius, King of the Ondrithar has found his mate amongst the humans and has every intention of keeping her as he rushes her away from the danger.

This seventeenth book of the Ruthless Royal: Planet Sarnos series was a very entertaining novella that had the action, danger, intrigue, and passion of inter species romance fast paced and entertaining as Samantha and Kaerius began their adventure beneath the Sarnos’ oceans.

Nice writing, and engaging characters delivered a solidly good read.

TAKEN BY THE ALIEN TRITON KING is part of the Abducted by the Ruthless Royal series. I'm thinking these books can be read in any order and as standalones, which is my case.

Samantha is part of a group of scientists charged with finding another world, as Earth is no longer viable!!! Kaeris is the King of the Ondrithar, who was initially unfazed by the humans, until he met Samantha and acknowledged her as his mate.

This is a fast-paced novella that is told from both perspectives, so hold onto your hats! There is a full story here, even if parts of it could have been expanded to give a bigger, better picture. There is steam, but only for one scene. The rest is s3xual tension.

A quick coffee-break book that I enjoyed reading and have no hesitation in recommending.

** Same worded review will appear elsewhere. **

This is a very quick read, full of action and adventure. It's a little less detailed than I'm used to with this author's work, but it has good world building, an engaging plot and fascinating characters. The premise itself is interesting; a ship is sent from Earth to the planet of Sanos and seven women are to negotiate a treaty so the humans can stay on that planet. Instead, there is an explosion and King Kaerius grabs Samantha and pulls her into the depths with him. He may recognize her as his mate but his people (the Ondrithar) are not keen to do so. She is a scientist, so she has the ability to save the king's people from a terrible scourge. The question is, will that gain her acceptance amongst the Ondrithar and will that allow the ship of humans to settle on Sanos? I am now quite keen to read the other books in the series, written by other authors.

Humans are desperate to find somewhere safe to settle. Landing on the planet Sanos they are negotiating with the local alien tribes when there is an attack. This story follows a human scientist Samantha and her rescuer, King Kaerius of the Ondrithar. Kaerius has instantly recognised Samantha as his mate and is determined that she will accept him. He also hopes that she will be able to help his people fight back against the scourge taking over their territory. Samantha finds herself drawn to the fierce King and recognises that they have a chance at something magical.
Action, mystery and challenges face the pair as they fight for each other. As always, the author has written an exciting story that has the reader rooting for the couple to get their HEA. A lot happens in the novella, but the storyline isn’t rushed and feels complete. This is only one of the stories set in the multi-author universe in the Abducted by the Ruthless Royals series. I will be reading more of the series.

I loved the story. This is one of the books as part of a multi-author collection.

I liked Samantha. I liked that she did not panic when others would. She uses her knowledge to help where others had failed. I also liked that she understood not everyone was going to be ok with an outsider among them.

Kaerius was of course protective from the very beginning, even if he did not know the reasons right away. He helped without asking if it was ok. He wasn't much for talking either.

Well written novella. There is steam to the eventual romance. POV of both. And of course an out of this world HEA for them. I liked the twists and suspense.

You do not need to read the other books in the collection, but there is references to the other humans who were with Samantha.

3.5 stars. This short story is dual POV, and a sweet and steamy, sci fi, merman king shifter/human botanist romance. I enjoyed Samantha’s scientific focus and the knowledge she brought to the relationship. I enjoyed Kaerius’ immediate focus on Samantha, and the balance of statesmanship with infatuation. I enjoyed the non-romance plot, though the story felt rushed. I didn’t feel like I got to know the characters well before the story was over. I really don’t believe this is the best of this author’s work and I really like her writing. If you’re reading her for the first time, PLEASE choose another story before deciding you don’t like her style (feel free to check my reviews as I have several of her stories at 5 stars).

A quick, sexy, fun read! Who wouldn't want to be swept away by a handsome man who keeps showing up to save the day AND thinks you're sexy as all H**L! In this book, the nerdy girl not only saved the day but also gets the guy - GO SCIENCE! This is a really fun series that you can read in a single sitting, but it is intended for those over 18 with mature themes. There can be violence, sexual scenes and certain tropes. The author did an excellent job not only building the characters but building an entire world for us - it's hard to believe that her book is only one out of several and that she didn't write the entire series. I'm looking forward to reading more of the adventures of the female crew of the USS Legacy and the beings of Sanos.

🤔A rather mixed read...

On the magnificent alien beach, Samantha and Imogen had just emerged from their capsule/pod ejected from the USS Legacy spaceship.

They had emerged from stasis and were enjoying the delicious warm air to the fullest...

******

I had a lot of trouble with this read, going back several times to see if I had missed a paragraph or a page.

I absolutely failed to immerse myself in the story, and I found the plot confusing for such a short format.

I was left with far more questions than answers.

The political tangle was certainly too much for me.

Despite the author's overflowing imagination, I didn't appreciate the underwater world described. I also didn't like the character of Kaerius, who gave me chills.

Not a novel for me.
To discover for fans of the genre.

a really good fast paced novella featuring samantha a human female scientist living on a spaceship searching for a new home on an alien planet and kaerius the king of one section of the under water world. when shy quiet samantha goes with other females to meet with heads of living areas, she is kidnapped when fighting erupts on the beach and taken to his underwater kingdom. She must adapt and figure out why he grabbed her and how to get back but when a multitude of events happen and she starts having feelings for the king will she even want to go back? this was an easy quick read perfect for a lazy afternoon or an hour to kill waiting for something even a lunch hour. contains excitement danger and drama, conflict and partnership. good descriptions and interesting story line.

Sexy Merman!

Taken By The Alien Triton King is part of the Abducted by the Ruthless Royal: Planet Sanos series and can totally be read as a standalone book. Each book in this series is written by a different author but takes place in the same world. There are a couple of authors here that I read consistently and Robin O’Connor is one of them.

I have really enjoyed Taken By The Alien Triton King and the under the sea excitement, drama, tails, scales and fins along with the perfect amount of attraction and spice had me captivated. There is so much packed into this novella with its fantastic plot, engaging characters and intriguing world. Based on the thrilling and well written adventure in this story I cannot wait to dive into some new to me authors!

I really enjoyed this sci-fi alien merman romance. Kaerius is king of his people and they’re struggling against a plague spreading through the ocean where they live. Samantha is human and a scientist. Humans need a place to live and she’s trying to negotiate it with the kings of the planet they’ve found. One day on the beach while waiting for a meeting to discuss this, she’s kidnapped by the very King she needs to talk to. This starts the beginning of their romance. There is castle intrigue and some of Kaerius’ people don’t love that Samantha is human. These two have several fronts to fight to be together not to mention the creatures trying to overtake them. You’ll really enjoy this story.

Enjoyed! It is a shorter read but it still has all the pieces of action, love, betrayal, and adventure! Just is very fast moving. I feel like there are not many books out there that take place under water, so it is interesting getting that perspective with this book. I will say though, while this was well written I do prefer this author's full length books more! This author has a way with words and I definitely appreciate that about them. This is nice if you don't have a lot of time and want to start and finish a book easily in one sitting. Which is often times ideal. But definitely check out this author's full length books if you haven't. Some of my favorites!

What a great alien story. Samantha has been in stasis since the ship left Earth. When she was on the beach with other females she decided to look at the trees with another female going with her. All hell broke loose on the beach and before she knew what was happening she was over the shoulder of Kaerius and her friend on the shoulder of another man. He is the King of the Ondrithar and says she is his mate. Their HEA is action-packed and must be in your TBR pile. I look forward to reading more in this series.

I liked it, but it should have been longer. The last chapter is basically a cliffhanger, and then we get the epilogue. Sure, in the epilogue all the loose ends are tied, but it wasn’t as good as it could have been if the book had been longer. Since it’s so short, there are a lot of things that are told to the reader instead of shown, some of which are kind of important and not very well explained. I was a bit confused. I like Robin O’Connor’s writing, and normally there aren’t any problems with this kind of thing, so maybe this was because of the nature of the series and the constrictions involved.

This was an enjoyable Sci-fi alien romance story that's written by Robin O'Connor in the "Abducted by the Ruthless Royal" series. This story is about King Kaerius of the Ondrithar and Samantha whom King Kaerius scooped up in the jungle while their meeting place was being attacked. What happens afterward was an engaging story that entertained me. The characters were likable, their chemistry simmered, the romance was steamy, and the drama was engaging as Samantha adjusts to living under the water. Will Samantha fall for her captor? I'd volunteer to read and review this enjoyable copy I've received.

This alien adventure was so unique!!! I loved it!!! Certainly humans in a generational ship trying to negotiate land to settle on a new planet is a common enough trope but I’ve not commonly read about ocean dwelling aliens (I know there are some out there, it’s just not that common for me to read them…and this race seemed so unique to me)😍. It had a great story, lots of action, passion and even intrigue, especially for a shorter book, which I loved!!! Even a fated mates aspect! That our FMC gets to be the absolute heroine is a bonus!!!.

'He was beginning to unwind around me; it was only a little, but I sensed it, and it made my feelings spike with something perilously close to happiness. I shouldn’t get attached. I should be asking the hard questions, not wondering if this king thought I was his mate and what that entailed.'

I loved this book. It was a fun, fast-paced adventure. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Samantha and Kaerius. I liked the dynamic and chemistry between them. The story had action, danger, and suspense, and I was hooked. I wish it was a little longer. An awesome new multi-author series and I can't wait to read them all! 5 stars.

This was a quick read that managed to pack in a whirlwind romance, high stakes and political unrest amongst a people. I enjoyed the tension and sparks between Kaerius and Samantha and I especially enjoyed Kaerius’ POV dealing with his court and royal duties in trying to placate and save his people and Samantha. The backstory added to the likeability of the characters and helped build the plot. Overall, I thought the underwater setting was very intriguing. There was so much going on in such a small amount of time that makes it a great time!

Gleeful Goblin Review: Robin O'Connor is an author that I never pass up when I see new books pop up so when I saw not just a new book but also one involving basically space mermen? Give. Me. Now. What happens when you have a bunch of smart, savvy, and hopeful women sent to make inroads with aliens and trying to find a new home? You get this book. This book is a bit on the novella size but has the feel of a full length novel in the best way. I had a phenomenal time reading this book and I'll definitely read it again. 5/5 Stars

Vibrant world‑building, a compelling emotional arc, and sizzling chemistry between star‑crossed lovers—all without ever feeling rushed. The story may be short, but it packs in a surprising amount of plot: political intrigue beneath the waves, obstacles to trust, and a blossoming connection between the human FMC and the MMC Triton king.

Samantha's resilience contrasts beautifully with the Kaerius’s regal strength, and their dynamic evolves naturally, making the romance feel both steamy and emotionally satisfying.

Kidnapped or rescued?

The Earth diplomats land in Sanos seeking peace and refuge. Instead, an attack leaves Samantha in the arms of Kaerius, King of the Ondrithar, as he carries her to his kingdom in the ocean depths. He does not call her his prisoner, but Samantha would not survive if she were to try to leave. Not everyone in the underwater realm is happy that she is there, and they are willing to do something about it.

A spicy alien adventure. Fun reading! I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.

Kaerious does not put much stock in the meeting with the aliens hoping for land for the last of thier species to live. He also has no time for politics. As a result, he is still a distance from the meeting point when an attack happens.
Samantha has ventured away from the meeting place to check out the local flora when she crosses paths with Kaerious - just as the attack happens.

Great quick read in the 'Abducted by the Ruthless Royal' series and a new to me author.

Lovely read by Robin O’Connor…this is part of a series in which multiple authors write individual stories about the Planet Sonos. It’s not often a group of authors do this but it’s great because you can compare the different writing styles of these contributing authors. I loved the character Samantha because she is strong and thinks on her feet. Kaerius and Samantha just have good chemistry which carries the story. I do wish it was a bit longer thus the four stars. It’s a sweet story that you will enjoy. Download and take a trip to the Planet Sonos.❤️❤️
