Her desire unites them. Her secret could destroy them all.

Cy’ren Rising, Book 3

The lord.

The sole survivor of the Sunsinger massacre, Lord Degalen Fairren spends his days reading tales of the family he never knew. When a rival house threatens to enslave Cyprena, Galen is forced to pull his nose out of his books and enter into an alliance with House Morningstar, and a dangerous mission to save his world.

The assassin.

Lady Andelynn Harrow isn’t House Morningstar’s eldest or prettiest daughter, but she is the deadliest. After her father’s murder, Andee must defend her new house and mate—the shy, reluctant Galen—but every battle risks revealing her terrible secret.

The slave.

Malcolm gets his first taste of freedom when the Cy’ren recruit him to locate the cure to a deadly virus—and feels the burn of desire for Galen, the lord he can never have, and for Andee, who awakens memories of a long-lost first love.

The danger they face fuels the heat between them, but with Cyprena’s fate hanging in the balance, the race to find the cure could come with devastating costs.

Contains a blushing, virgin lord, a sexy geek, and an empathic assassin who always brings lube on a mission.

I had some spare time and decided to finish reading series that I had started and somehow not completed. The Cy'ren Rising trilogy seemed like the obvious place to start. I read and loved the first book back in 2013. I four starred the second book in 2014. Okay so there is clearly a larger time gap with the third book but I was expecting more enjoyment this time due to the male male focus. I assumed there would be more focus on Malcolm and Degalen and their romance and I was given a huge disappointment on that front but I’ll get to that.
It only took me a couple of chapters to catch up on Cy’ren politics and the war that these people are fighting. Bachar has brought in the main characters from Nightfall (Talena, Carman, Dack) and Morningstar (Jace, Bryn, Sabine) as they still have large political roles as ruling houses in this society that is trying to acquire something similar to normalcy. Every step forward is a fight and there is a house that is so set in the old ways that wants to keep its own people oppressed in slavery.
Archaic traditions are about to have Lady Andelynn Harrow of House Morningstar wedding the virginal Lord Degalen Fairren of House Sunsinger. Galen is still a virgin because of his attraction to men. While it is okay for Cy’ren women to have female lovers, and Cy’ren men to have two female mates it is never okay for a male to take another male as a lover. I am told over and over on the page how attracted Galen and Malcolm are. It is written on the page how much they love each other. I know I’m getting an erotic ménage romance. What I actually get is a ménage romance where two men are all about a woman. I was confused about this. I didn’t feel the romance was real where Andee was involved. It felt forced.
The big bad that was Lord Bildanen and the Lazarus plague in the end had an easy resolution. Some things that could have had a resolution did not. I’m not sure if that was due to the author pondering the idea of continuing going on with this world or just not wanting to tie that up. It seems like things got lost with this last book or perhaps my reading tastes evolved since I read the first.

Another great adventure with a twist, the H chooses 2 mates and 1 is a guy. There is some buyer remorse as the H is young, and very insecure about his position and his desires, but his 2 mates are mature, kind and understand his concerns. Complex plot with perhaps too many characters, but I enjoyed it. It had great first time menage, sweet M/M action, torture, evil plots, cyborg-like additions to humans, space ships and romantic love scenes. Such a lot going on and it looks as if we might get more books in the series. I look forward to more.

Picking up where the previous book in the series left off, there's danger everywhere as the Houses are under attack from one of their own who's bent on total domination. To acheive that goal he's ready to unleash a bio-weapon recently discovered in the previous book. With the other Houses bowing down under the threat it's up to the House Morningstar to fight back with the help of Lord Galen, the lone heir of House Sunsinger, who's set on marrying Andee of House Morningstar. While theirs is an unexpected coupling it sets the stage for a complete change of the ways of their people when it comes to slavery, the role of women in battle, and the right to have a male mate. Aiding in these dramatic changes is the slave and computer whiz Malcolm, who's taken sanctuary with them but is still being controlled by a possessive man who's willing to rent him to the highest bidder. Their triad may be frowned upon by others but together they're a formidible team not afraid to sacrifice themselves for their people and each other.

Andee is a strong and capable woman who doesn't hesitate to run into the middle of a fight. She's not considered the pretty sister in her family and is therefore shocked by Galen's attentions. She's attracted to him too but fears that her secret of being an empath as well as other abilities will scare him or turn her into a pawn for others to use. Andee's an outgoing female quite comfortable talking about and engaging in sex which has her taking the lead in many of their erotic encounters. That's not the case for Galen who's a shy virgin. His only experience was a kiss with a young man that led to shame amidst his family covering the incident up. He's more comfortable in a library and prefers studying people as opposed to being around them. He's pale and lacks muscles but his authoritative presence and surety in a crisis are invaluable in their secret journey to find a cure. He's drawn to Andee and her calming and understanding nature and is quick to show his possessive side towards her. Being with just her though leads to frustration for him as he lets his thoughts of betrayal to his family name and new mate caused by a brief kiss with Malcolm consume him. It's not until Andee and Malcolm take control and reassure him of the rightness in loving another person that he finally allows himself to live his life for himself. He feels safe in the presence of both of them and it leads to sweet and sensual discoveries. Malcolm is a human slave who's dealt with loss and has finally found a sense of safety within the House Morningstar. He tries to ignore his attraction to Galen at first but jumps at the chance to be with him and Andee once she suggests it. He's quite comfortable in his role of teacher to Galen when it comes to sex and Malcolm is very enthusiastic in his role. He's a bit twitchy at times, a bit sickly too, but is a maestro when connecting to a computer. His constant talk of data streams is humorous and belie his fears of being returned to his master. Along the dangerous journey into the traitor's realm his life is put in jeopardy and he discovers some unsettling truths that could lead to a whole new series of books. Malcolm was an endearing character reminiscent of a mad scientist, but sexier.

This was an exciting sci-fi thrill ride full of battles from above and below. These battles were fast-paced, exhilarating, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Characters from the previous books had large roles in this story and with so many names things became confusing at times. I was often left frustrated trying to remember who was related to who and for this reason I recommend these books be read in order. The villain was truly nefarious and his plan included lots of twist and turns that brought out even more traitors. Amidst these bloody battles was a satisfying and erotic romance between three very different people who were perfect together. There was a nice balance to allow their relationship to evolve realistically while keeping the action flowing at a rapid and pulse pounding pace. From start to finish this was an engaging story with a definitive HEA. Though I see possibilities for more I'm not sure that will happen as this series is billed as a trilogy. Wherever Ms. Bachar decides to go though, I'll definitely follow.

This is the third book in the Cy'ren Rising series and I have not read the first two. As I began reading Sunsinger, I wondered if perhaps I should have.

BUT

As the book progressed, what I felt was missing was filled in. And it was filled in just as I was thinking that I might give up on it!

Degalen, Andelynn and Malcolm are thrown together. Galen is the LOrd of his house, Andee the Lady of another house, and Malcolm is a data miner, a slave. They should not, according to the Temples come together, a male should take 2 female mates. But Galen has feeling for Malcolm, feelings he fights hard, Malcolm makes no apologies for his attraction to Galen, but he tries to quell it for Galen's sake. Andee desires them both, and when Galen asks for Andee to be his mate, she see an opportunity for them to change tradion and says yes, on the condition its a 3 way with Malcolm and Malcolm only.

But first, the Lord of House Nightfall need defeating, and the world needs saving.

Sci-Fi meets space travel meets vampirific Cy'ren. A bit of everything here and once I'd got that missing bit, I found it a really engaging story. I would like, at some point, go back and read books one and two, if only for my only personal satisfaction. What let the book down was, the ending. They completed their mission, getting the vaccine, and stopping the Lord of House Nightfall and then....they were back on Cyprena. No filling in what happened to the moon base, or the people in it, nothing about what happened to the House of Nightfall after their master's demise. Whether that information will come in future books, I dont know, but it just felt off here, rushed almost.

I did like that Galen's innocence was not played about with. Andee and Malcolm both knew he was a virgin and treated him with kid gloves, for a while. Also, how although ANdee was NOT innocent, and she had partaken in many victory parties at the barracks, neither Galen or Malcolm held that against her. All three went into this relationship with open eyes, and minds and knew they only real challenge they faced was getting back from the mission alive, and changing peoples mind about 2 female mates.

All godd stuff, and I should like to read any future books in this series, indeed, by this author would be great!

"4 out of 5 stars! Follow Andelynn (Andee) as she uses all of her skills to help protect her new mate(s), prove to Degalen (Galen) that there is more to life then following the old stingy rules, and opens her heart to the possibility of a better future for herself then she originally planned. For this being the first novel in this series that I've read I liked how it could be read as a standalone novel while it still brings in the series' previous main characters in a way that the reader stays up-to-date about them and still staying relevant to the action going on."

SUNSINGER by Robyn Bachar is book three in the Cy'ren Rising trilogy. It's an erotic sci fi romance, but I feel like it failed at all three genres. I enjoyed the sci fi part of the book the best. For a Samhain-published book, the sex was tamer than I expected, and also fewer sex scenes than I anticipated.

Star-crossed lovers find acceptance and redemption

I sincerely hope that this is not the end of the series. There are so many stories to tell, so many questions that still need answers. I want to know what happens now that they have created the world that they want to have. I want to know how it all works out for everybody. I want to know how certain villains are dealt with. This is an incredible tale, and I really enjoyed it.

Hot. Thrilling. Compelling. Me likey. (I really enjoyed it, but the next time I read it I'm going to need to keep track of who-what-where on paper. Multiple mates with names and nicknames make remembering who's who complicated…)
