NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Kaylee Ryan brings you a new standalone series surrounding the Nashville Rampage football team. Change the Play is a found family, forced proximity, workplace, sports romance.
Foster I learned early how to survive on my own. Keep my head down and my past locked away. My childhood taught me that nothing lasts and no one chooses you forever. So I built a life free from love—and pain. Football gave me discipline. Success gave me distance. Silence kept me safe. Then Eden walked into my house. My new housekeeper. Someone meant to clean my messes and remain on the edges of my life. Except she didn’t stay on the edges. She saw me—really saw me—and didn’t look away. Her laugh somehow turned my empty house into something that felt like a home. With her, the walls I spent years building began to crack. Loving her means risking everything. It means believing I’m worth choosing. She makes me want to stop hiding… and change the play.
Eden I know what it’s like to grow up unwanted. To pack your life into boxes and pretend it doesn’t hurt when no one ever unpacks them for you. Loneliness taught me independence and resilience, to build a family from the people who stay. I never expected more. Then I met Foster. He’s quiet and guarded, carrying the weight of a past he refuses to name. Working for him was supposed to be simple—do my job, keep my head down, don’t cross lines. But the more time we spend together, the more I see the man beneath the armor. The one he hides from the world. We weren’t looking for love. Yet somewhere in the stolen moments, we chose each other. And for the first time, I’m not just building a family—I’m finally home.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kaylee Ryan has earned the affectionate title of “Queen of Swoon” from her devoted readers. With over sixty romance novels to her name, Kaylee has built a beloved catalog of heartfelt stories that celebrate love in all its tender, emotional, and undeniably swoony forms. Her signature blend of charm, chemistry, and genuine happily-ever-afters has captivated readers around the world.
When she’s not crafting new love stories or dreaming up her next unforgettable couple, Kaylee can usually be found with a book in hand, fueling her creativity as a lifelong reader. She cherishes the time spent with her family and friends, embracing the moments that inspire the heart of her stories.
This book wasn’t loud or chaotic — it was quiet, aching, and deeply emotional in a way that sneaks up on you.
Foster and Eden aren’t two people looking for love. They’re two people who learned early that love doesn’t stay.
Foster’s character hit hard. The emotional restraint. The discipline. The way he built his life around control because control felt safer than connection. Football gave him structure, but it never gave him home. Watching his walls slowly crack — not because Eden forced them down, but because she made him want to lower them — was everything.
And Eden? She’s strength in soft form. She doesn’t need rescuing. She’s already survived. Her resilience isn’t loud; it’s steady. She chooses people. She builds family. And the way she sees Foster — truly sees him — without trying to change him made their connection feel earned.
The employer/employee tension adds that subtle edge, but this isn’t about scandal or drama. It’s about two lonely people recognizing something familiar in each other. The stolen glances. The quiet moments in an otherwise empty house. The realization that maybe love doesn’t always leave.
What I loved most is that this story isn’t about fixing each other. It’s about choosing each other. Over and over.
It’s soft healing. It’s vulnerability. It’s “stay” instead of “leave.”
And that kind of love? That’s the one that lingers. 🖤
Incredibly slow pace. Too so long to get to a point. Very surprising for this series. Had to force myself to finish because it dragged so badly. Upset that this is how the saga finishes for the guys. Don’t even want to see what Coach’s story will be now.
#Review: *Change the Play* - Kaylee Ryan - ARC [18+] 4.3/5✨ 2.5/5🌶️
Foster Vaughn had his heart broken by his long-time girlfriend, Violet, who decided to part ways after he got drafted. He thought that she was the love of his life, so it was a moment which marked him, especially because he had just proposed to her and everything went sideways. That whole thing made him decide to stay far away from love. Years have passed and he had successfully kept his promise, but that was until Foster met his new housekeeper, Eden Miller. The woman had completely stolen his attention even from the first second he saw her. He should stay away from her because she was working for him, but can he really do that when there's a crazy chemistry and an unique connection between them?
So, this book was full of banter since the first time these two have met. Foster and Eden had a different kind of bound, because of their similar past and that pulled them together as magnets. It was sooo hard to ignore all that tension between them, even if it seemed like they were slowly building a nice friendship. But no, it was clearly something else! That was impossible to ignore when everything about them screamed 'more'. The past of each of them was pretty heavy and sad, but they were lucky enough to have built a nice life for themselves in spite of everything. I liked how they leaned on each other in facing all those things that bothered them, against which they didn't have enough courage to start fighting. Their connection was, at the same time, so vulnerable, but also super sexy.
A book which proved me that love can come unexpectedly, even when you gave up on it a long time ago. I loved that Foster had his chance at his happy ending, being so darn perfect together with lovely and innocent Eden.
I wanna thank Kaylee for accepting me to be part of her ARC team and for offering me this book🤗.

Kaylee Ryan absolutely did it again! I have loved the entire Nashville Rampage series so far, but Foster’s book is one I have been waiiiting for since early in the series!! This one absolutely didn’t disappoint!! By far my favorite I’ve read!
Foster & Eden’s story had me feeling so much! This one as sweet, emotional, and the perfect amount of spice that just had me loving it every second!
Two people with rough pasts, who are able to not only heal, but give each other a safe place to feel seen! This one tugged so hard at my heart string and had me rooting so hard for them!
Again, Kaylee has written the best found family/ friend group with these side characters and just created something so beautiful within their friendships! I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!
Kaylee Ryan is one of my favorite go-tos for low angst, feel good, deliciously sweet reads, and I am just loving this Nashville Rampage football series! Watching these men fall one by one has been such a ride… and now it’s Foster’s turn. 💜 FOSTER IS HERE Y’ALL! And this one might be the sweetest. Foster and Eden’s story is tender, powerful, and beautifully real.
Foster has always lived guarded. Growing up in foster care and carrying the weight of a painful past taught him not to rely on anyone. Love? Not worth the risk. At least that’s what he’s been telling himself. Then Eden shows up…..
His new housekeeper is sunshine wrapped in strength. She’s warm, resilient, and carrying her own scars from the foster system. There’s an immediate connection neither of them expects, and suddenly the man who swore off relationships is looking for every excuse to keep her close. There is just something epically delicious about a grumpy football player falling first… and falling HARD.
This story brings all the signature Kaylee Ryan magic. Emotional depth, tender healing, found family moments with the Rampage crew, swoony romance, and the perfect touch of spice. It’s heartfelt, hopeful, and packed with the kind of chemistry that makes you smile while you’re reading and leaves your heart so full.
I can’t believe we only have one book left! But hey, audio girlies rejoice, the first in the series will be out on audio in May!

I have been waiting for this man's book since book one and Kaylee didn't disappoint!
Foster believed without a doubt that he once had the love his teammates do. But everything changes the day he meets Eden.
They both have a similar background. They grew up in foster care, distanced themselves from relationships due to the fear of rejection. But finding each other was the missing puzzle piece they needed to feel whole.
Foster and Eden both gave pieces of themselves to their new friendship and relationship, that they never gave anyone else. It was scary but the voices seized to exist when the other was around. They found their footing together and it was absolutely beautiful.
The chemistry between them was so good, I loved the little things they did for each other and the spice! 🔥
I loved the friend group, they are amazing as ALWAYS.
Foster and Eden meet when she is sent as a new housekeeper. Their relationship begins with a slow buildup of trust and friendship. Opening up about their childhoods truly brings them together especially when they learn how similar their upbringings were.
Foster understands how special she is and quickly realizes that she might be the best thing that has ever happened to him. She is his safe haven when everything is hard, and he is a steady shoulder for her when she needs it. He wants her to be his forever - she just needs a moment to accept that fate has finally brought her someone who will love and cherish her without expecting anything in return.
I'm so in love with this series. Every couple has left a mark on me, and I'm certain I'll be coming back for rereads for a long time to come.

I have loved the entire Rampage series so far, but Foster took everything to the next level. It is one of those stories that burrows under your skin and before you know it you are hooked.
Foster and Eden’s story is an emotional roller coaster, two people whose pasts are still driving their futures. Foster is all about control and discipline. In football and his life he is in control. He does not need anyone and has build his walls strong and high. Meeting Eden has allowed him to look at life a little differently and as he slowly lets her in, she becomes his everything. Eden is a survivor; she chooses who she surrounds herself with. I love the connection she has with Foster.
This book is special, the story, the characters, and the way I was pulled in. It is like the author was speaking to my heart. I am looking forward to what is next.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
It's only as you read this one that you can see Foster kinda closed himself off from the others. Sure he was still in the group, but there was that arm's length that kept them a bit away. I liked that Eden brought out so much in him, that seeing Eden and how she was in her life, helped open him, that their shared type of past didn't have to hold a person back. Even the other guys noticed as Foster started to shorten that arm length. It was nice to see how things ended for them and how happy they were.
I fear I'm at a point where I see Kaylee Ryan has written a book therefore i read it. It's a simple if then statement. This book was another lovely edition to this series of low-angst feel good books. I will be honest though, the fact they mentioned every 5 seconds that they were in foster care got on my nerves. We get it, you don't have to bring it up at least once a chapter.
Kaylee Ryan does it again! She weaves this romantic tale between two people who are perfect for each other and shows the joys, concerns, uncertainties, and elation of falling in love! Ryan’s writing is softly romantic, full of understanding and care, and emotionally raw. Change the Play was such an easy book to fall into and from page one Ryan’s world wrapped around me like a warm blanket!
The Nashville Rampage has been such a delightful series, I have adored watching this found family of footballers find the women who bring balance and comfort to their worlds. This romance is between Foster and Eden, and it is so beautiful watching these two find understanding and comfort in each other. It is in the soft and quiet moments that these two shine. Ryan is not afraid to explore the depth of emotion, and the stillness of everyday life as these two fall comfortably in love with the other. Seeing these two build a foundation of friendship really pays off as insecurities might try to tear them apart, but it is the solid friendship and how the can relate to each other than makes them such a strong pair. Even with the soft and sweet nature of their relationship, Ryan still shows the tension and chemistry in a beautiful way and makes this relationship one that is believable and strong.
Kaylee Ryan is one of those authors I know I am going to fall head over heels for. I cannot recommend her enough, this book enough or this series enough! If you are looking for a low angst romance that will fill your heart with warmth the Rampage boys are the answer!
Thank you to Kaylee Ryan for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Foster and Eden's pasts are more similar than either of them expected. They grow a bond over the short time they've known one another and it blooms every day. Foster never expects to fall for his housekeeper and Eden to fall for her boss of sorts.
Foster was given a chance to heal from his heartache because Eden showed him he could heal. Eden was given a chance to find her special someone. Foster.
Neither one of them expecting it to be their one true love.
Definitely MT least favorite of the series. There was way to much inner, repetitive dialogue. The author should have spent more time showing the relationship growth instead of the inner ramblings of the characters.
Change The Play is the fifth book in the Nashville Rampage series by Kaylee Ryan. Foster and Eden’s story can be read as a standalone, so if you are new to this series and want to start with this book, that should be fine. But, be warned, you may have a strong urge to marathon this series once you start this book. The characters and the storylines in the Nashville Rampage series are all so addicting! I can’t seem to put these books down once I pick them up!
Anywho, we are here to talk about two people and one great love story today. If you’re a fan of slow burn romances with a little extra charge tension, this one should be your next read. Foster should be having the time of his life. He has four best friends, he considers brothers, he’s a professional football player, and he has the security that comes with a multi-million dollar contract. But something is missing, something has always been missing, and the guilt resurfaces every time he thinks about not fighting to keep that one element that is missing. Growing up the way Foster did, he came to an early conclusion, rejection lives within you forever.
Eden hasn’t had a charmed life. Growing up in the foster care system taught her one thing, you have to work for what you get out of life. She’s also learned about rejection and all the emotions that come with it. That’s why Eden doesn’t allow anyone to get close. That is, until she meets the man of her dreams who shares those fears and a similar background. The only issue, He’s a professional athlete, and she happens to be working for him. Nothing good can come from her getting closer to him, or can it?
My Thoughts:
Kaylee Ryan has done it once again! She’s forced my hand and made me fall head over heels for, yet another, one of her book heroes! Foster swept me off my feet, and Eden helped pick me up! I couldn’t put this book down!!! Kaylee Ryan added just the right touch of emotions throughout this novel. I felt my heart hurt and heal moment after moment.
Let’s start with Eden. I loved the strength Eden showed throughout this novel. I also loved the fact that there was a vulnerability that lingered just behind the surface. Her character is as independent as they come. Growing up, in a way that she grew up, forces you to be independent. I also adored the fact that she didn’t let her childhood and teenage years define her negatively. My heart adored Eden’s personality and Eden’s ability to grow and flourish into the person she is today!
And then we have Foster. Where Eden had grown from her past. Foster kind of pushed himself to hold onto that fear of rejection and fear of the unknown in a way that no one was going to be able to hurt him again. My heart shattered for Foster and his fear of letting anyone in again. I think Kaylee Ryan executed these emotions flawlessly.
I adored Eden and Foster’s story. The thing I loved most about this novel was Foster and Eden sharing similar backgrounds, and in that retrospect, Eden helped Foster through all of his pent up emotions. She helped him see that he could trust again, that he could love again, and that he could have hope once again. And those moments were so inspirational! I knew from the very moment I picked this book up that it was going to be my favorite. And that notion wrang true! I loved every single moment!
Let’s not forget about the spice! Change The Play is somewhat of a slow burn romance. Eden and Foster took their time to develop a friendship that garnered trust and adoration. The more time they spent together, the more this fire burned between them. The more time the brighter the flames got. And this is the moment that had me really feeling a connection between the two. I loved the getting to know each other phase, and they grew a strong foundation of trust before any sexy time was introduced. But holy crow, the sexy time was just as sweet as it was spicy!
Overall, my heart adored Change The Play by Kaylee Ryan. I’m thrilled to have found another five-star read within this series, and I’m so happy to say that Foster is the ultimate book boyfriend and hero in this series! My heart couldn’t get enough of this man and all the growth he went through during this novel! I loved every moment!!
Change the Play by Kaylee Ryan is absolutely incredible! It is a superb age gap/love at first sight love story and is the fifth book in her Nashville Rampage series. Foster Vaughn is so hot and the perfect hero. Kaylee Ryan is an amazing storyteller and is a must read; one click author for me. I was hooked from the first few pages, it was impossible to put Change the Play down, and I loved every moment on every page. It filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions. It is the most enjoyable books that I have read recently. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? I love how Kaylee Ryan always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy men. Change the Play is the story of Foster Vaughn, starting halfback of the Nashville Rampage, and Eden Miller, house cleaner for Dust ‘N Shine. Foster walks in on Eden cleaning his kitchen, she informs him that she is taking over his account, since his former cleaning lady, Tiffany’s husband job was transferred. Foster does not want to cross the employer/employee boundary with Eden, even though he is immediately attracted to her. Eden and Foster both have suffer from trust issues and soon discover that they have more in common that they originally thought. They both grew up in the foster care system, even though Foster’s experience was slightly different from Eden’s even if he does not realize it. I love the chemistry between Eden and Foster, their conversation flows so easily, with innuendos and playful banter, and Foster constantly flirting and dirty talking. As Eden comes three times a week to clean Foster’s condo, prepare meals, and spend time together in his condo and at the children’s home things change between them. I love all the little things that they do for one another and some of the advice that Eden gives to Foster. I love all the changes that both Eden and Foster are willing to make in their lives to have a life with one another. One of my favorite parts of the story are the heart-to-heart conversations between Eden and Foster, when they discuss their shared experiences in the foster care system, and when Foster discloses that he proposed to his college girlfriend, Violet the night he was drafted by the Rampage. I especially love the conversation that Foster has with Hope and Nathan Pruitt, his high school football coach and last foster parents. I love all the changes that they are willing to make to have a life with one another. The text streams are another favorite part of the story. I love how the wives of his teammates embrace Eden. I love all the unexpected plot twists that happen in Change the Play. Another favorite part is the gift that Sloane gives to Eden to wear for the first pre-season game. My favorite part are the epilogues one told from Foster’s perspective, the other from Eden’s perspectives and how it goes above a happily ever after. I love the surprise that Eden has for Foster. My favorite part is Foster’s proposal, and how he realizes that Eden has helped him find hope, and love again. Another favorite part was the bonus scene shown from Foster’s perspective it is the perfect ending of their love story and all the changes that they have made together. I really enjoy how the book is told in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. I love that the dialogue that Kaylee Ryan chooses perfectly fits her characters. My favorite part of the book is how Kaylee Ryan incorporates the title of the book and the picture on the cover into the love story, and how the title is used multiple times throughout the story. This page turner is filled with heartbreaking, heartwarming, poignant, and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists and surprises, as well as all the moments that make me laugh that I have come to love and expect in a love story and was not disappointed with Kaylee Ryan’s delivery of those things. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Change the Play. The characters feel like family and friends, especially Eden’s relationship with Corie, Rowan, Bellamy, Sloane, Amanda, and Foster’s teammates. I love that their friendships feel like family. I enjoyed all the interactions between all the Nashville Rampage football players it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I love the descriptions of the Nashville location. I loved the relationship between Foster and his teammates. I loved Change the Play and am so excited to read the last book in the series, even though it will be a bittersweet series ending book. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? This book had my interest from the start, and I fell in love with the story. I thoroughly enjoyed Change the Play who does not love a love at first sight/age gap love story. Highly recommend this incredible love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.
Change the Play is book 5 in the Nashville Rampage series and follows Foster, the last standing bachelor in the core group of friends, as he falls for Eden, the one woman who truly understands him.
Foster has had a very tough childhood. He grew up in the foster care system and was shuffled between foster homes and group homes. He was an angry child until he found football. It was the one thing that he was able to work hard at and focus on to make himself the best at. In high school, he found a home with Coach Pruitt and his wife. They loved him and only wanted the best for him. But he was always walking on eggshells not knowing when they would send him back.
Eden grew up in the foster care system, as well. She is local to the Nashville area, and spent time in a local group home. Not all of the foster homes were good, but she was lucky that for a few years, she had a home where she was safe.
Foster has always held himself back from his core group of friends. They know nothing about his past. He chooses to hold everything inside. But now that the other four guys in the group have settled down and either have children or are trying to have children, he feels like the fifth wheel.
When Eden enters Foster's life, he is shocked. She is not the usual cleaning lady. He does not understand why the agency did not notify him of the change. During her first day, she and Foster have a conversation that leads her to believe she no longer has a job and leads him to believe he no longer has a cleaning lady. Surprise surprise, both of them are wrong. And so begins a new adventure.
Between making breakfast for Eden, visits to the local group home, Foster is bonding with someone who knows his history. And completely accepts him. Someone who understands him and his fears.
Foster and Eden spend a lot of time together talking about their pasts and the families they have made for themselves. He has his teammates and their wives. She has her best friend, Carrie and her family.
But Foster has kept everyone at arms length in the past. His friends and family as well as Coach and his wife. He has no idea how to fix this. It is time for him to finally tell his family about his past. But he is nervous. He is afraid they will leave him like everyone else has done his entire life.
Can Eden be the one who helps Foster open up to those who matter the most to him? Can she help him realize that not everyone leaves you? Can he show her a life like she has never known. Can he teach her to trust again? And can she teach him to trust again?
This is a story of being in survival mode. Do not let people in too deep because they could hurt you. Keep to yourself so you do not form attachments.
Many of us know people who grew up in foster care or an orphanage. There is good and there is bad to the system. This story seemed so close to what some have said about the system. Foster was lucky to find Coach and Hope. Although he was nearly an adult, they gave him as much love as he would allow them to give. He set the boundaries, not them. That is what makes a good family. Knowing when to step back and knowing when to stand your ground.
I loved seeing two people who grew up in the foster care system find each other. Two completely different backgrounds, but somehow they work.
Eden encourages Foster to open up, and he can just talk to her without even thinking about how much of himself he is sharing with her. He finally found the one person he can be himself with.
Foster wants to give Eden everything she has never had that is on her bucket list. Going to the ocean and walking along the beach. Such a simple excursion for many, but it is something she has never done. He makes it happen, and in quite a big way.
But my absolute favorite moment was when Sloane gave Eden her special gift she has given all of the girls. And all of the guys knew exactly what was in store for Foster when the two of them got home. They have all been there, but Foster was the only one who had no clue what they were talking about.
So who will be the characters in Risk the Play, the last book in this series? I am thinking Coach and his ex-wife, but after reading this story, I am just not sure I have it right. I cannot wait to see how this series ends.
Oh, Foster. You had my heart from the very first page of the prologue and you never, ever gave it back! Foster wasn’t broken but definitely a little bent and watching his story unfold was so, so good. So, what can you expect in Foster’s story?
The Tropes: 🏈 Sports Romance (Football) | 💼 Workplace Romance | 🏠 Forced Proximity | ❤️ Guarded Heart | 🫂 Found Family
This book is a masterclass in the guarded heart trope. Foster and Eden are two people who have been battered by life and watching them navigate their forced proximity/workplace romance was everything I could ever want and more. This isn't just a sizzle-and-burn sports romance; it’s a deep, tender slow-burn that feels so incredibly earned.
My Favorite Parts:
• The Emotional Connection: Their love doesn't just happen; it develops. I am a sucker for romance built over shared meals and the quiet peeling back of layers through stories of their similar pasts. • The Healing: The way Eden helps Foster piece himself back together while he fixes her broken pieces right back? Ugh, my heart. It felt so balanced. They really and truly see each other. There is a steady understanding between them that allows them to be their most authentic selves. They are so well suited to each other and I absolutely ate that up. • The Steam Factor: I loved that the spice wasn't over the top just for the sake of it. It fit the story perfectly. It was intimate, intentional, and reflective of the deep bond they were building. • The Rampage Family: The found family vibes in this series continue to be a massive highlight and my favorite part. The camaraderie between the guys and the bond between the gals makes the world feel so lived-in and supportive. I loved checking in with the other couples from this series. This is found family at its finest.
Why it wasn't a full 5 stars: As much as I adored the lead couple, it felt a little repetitive especially regarding the “odd man out” internal monologue. The rejection themes, specifically surrounding Foster’s ex, felt like it circled the same drain a few too many times.
In the end, no one deserves a happily ever after more than Eden and Foster. Their love is deep, and tender and so sweet that it absolutely melts your heart. If you’re a fan of emotional sports romances who prefers healing over high drama, don’t hesitate to add this to your TBR. It’ll wreck your heart but in the best way possible.
Oh my heart! I’ve been patiently waiting for Fosters book since book 2 of The Rampage Series. And I will tell you the wait did not disappoint. Foster Vaughn has stolen my heart just like all the other Rampage men. Foster has always felt like the odd one out even. Last one of his whole friend/family group that’s single, looking from the outside in. Fear of opening up. Foster had a rough childhood, one he’s never spoken about or even told his rampage family about. His HS coach and his wife took him in and cared for him, but he was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. He believes that the past should stay in the past and he’s okay with that. Until a special someone comes and knocks down all his walls, a day at a time. Oh I could talk about this book for days! Believe me when I say this will not disappoint. It will give you all the feels! The love, laughter, heartache (good kind I promise) HEA. You will just fall in love with Foster instantly oh and don’t get me started with Eden. Eden! I loved her. She was so sweet and kind and brave! She knew what she wanted and was not scared to go after it. After years of shying away and following her everyday life she finally decided to take the leap with Foster. I loved that she knew exactly how to bring Foster out of his shell without pushing him. Their attraction was instant! My favorite thing thought was that they started as friends. And it grew into so much more. They bond over their past experiences & hardships and they understood each other in ways that made Foster question his fears and wondered if he’s ready to move past them. Foster and Eden were just perfect! It was all so easy and natural. The banter, comfort level, and the emotional connection between the two was amazing. They built the friendship, trust and it lead them to their forever love. I’m a sucker for found family and how everyone is always there for each other 🤧😭 . My favorite part was when Foster finally got to experience the gift that Sloan gifts all the rampage ladies. Hehe. If you have loved the series so far I promise you Foster & Eden story will not disappoint. This was such a heartwarming, sports romance. Every time I read a Kaylee Ryan book I remember why I love romance books. Beautifully written. I’m so incredibly honored and grateful for the ARC 💕
Kaylee Ryan absolutely did it again. I’ve loved every book in the Nashville Rampage series, but Foster’s story? I’ve been waiting for this one since early in the series—and it was so worth it. This is hands down my favorite so far. 💜
Foster and Eden’s story is quiet, tender, and deeply emotional in the most beautiful way. It isn’t loud or dramatic—it sneaks into your heart and settles there. Sweet, aching, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice 🌶️, this book had me feeling everything from start to finish.
Both Foster and Eden carry the weight of rough pasts shaped by the foster system. They aren’t searching for love—they’re two people who learned early that love doesn’t always stay. Foster is guarded, disciplined, and built on control because control feels safer than connection. Football gave him structure, but never a home. Watching his walls slowly lower—not because Eden pushes, but because she makes him want to—was everything. A grumpy football player falling first and falling hard? Epically delicious. 🏈🖤
And Eden—she’s strength wrapped in softness. She doesn’t need saving; she’s already survived. Her resilience is quiet, steady, and powerful. She chooses people. She builds family. And the way she truly sees Foster, without trying to fix or change him, makes their connection feel so real and so earned.
The employer/employee dynamic adds a subtle tension, but this story isn’t about scandal or chaos. It’s about stolen glances, quiet moments in an empty house, and two lonely people recognizing something familiar in each other. It’s not about fixing one another—it’s about choosing each other. Over and over. 🖤
Kaylee Ryan once again delivers her signature magic: emotional depth, soft healing, swoony romance, and one of the best found family friend groups. The Rampage crew shines, the friendships feel genuine, and the sense of belonging is so beautifully written.
This book is healing. It’s vulnerability. It’s “stay” instead of “leave.” And that kind of love? That’s the one that lingers. 💜✨

O Kaylee Ryan! This series is just so damn good! Change THe Play is book five in the Nashville Rampage series. This series has such a STRONG sense of love, laughter, growth, healing. The found family in each book makes you wish you had this in your life! And the spice is always burning hot!
We met Foster Vaughn in the first four books but never knew his story. And I knew it would break us beautifully. He was always closed off and quiet about his past. And we finally learn why. Growing up in foster care, he learned quickly to never truly count on people or love. He learned to survive by himself and called it good enough. This man had been through some hurt and closed himself off to the chance of real love. Bring in Eden Miller. Come to clean his home and from day one there is just this underlying connection. The story of Foster and Eden is a beautiful romance about being enough, about belonging to a family that isn't blood, about being loved for who you truly are unconditionally and being vulnerable and letting people see the real you, past and all. This book is so so swoon over and over again! Go read this book and series! And we have one more! And I cannot wait!!

“I don’t want to hurt you.” “Oh, Foster, don’t you see? You’re putting me back together. Fixing broken pieces that I thought would remain shattered.”
Ugh…I love the Nashville Rampage - these guys are swoon-worthy and down bad for the women in their lives. Kaylee Ryan did it again with this one - Vaughn and Eden are perfect! They weren’t looking for each other, but when they found each other, they realized they had found exactly what they needed. This was such a great read and made me fall deeper in love with the Nashville Rampage and the found family that these guys have! Foster and Eden find the family and home they both needed in each other. It's a beautifully written book! This is the book for you if you love a workplace romance that has a bit of forced proximity where the main characters have built walls to guard their hearts, but ends with a happy ending!
I love how Foster (MMC) and Eden (FMC) are so much alike, with similar backgrounds and an understanding of each other without having to discuss it. Foster is a star football player on a championship team that he loves, part of a found family that he adores, but he watches as those around him find happiness with a partner and starts to think he wants the same thing, but because of a hurtful romantic past, he is afraid to open himself up to anyone. Eden grew up in foster care. She learned that she had only herself to rely on and that it was up to her to provide and protect herself. It was a lonely and isolating life, but she was protected from hurt. Both Foster and Eden are convinced that they are better off alone to protect themselves from getting hurt. Foster didn’t see Eden coming - she comes into his life, and he starts to see that maybe he is not better off alone. From the first interaction, the walls that both have spent years building start to crumble. They realize they have more in common than they could have imagined and that, together, they can build the family and home they both have always craved.
What its About: Foster I learned early how to survive on my own.
My Thoughts: 4/5 stars. Fosters book did not disappoint at all. I have been intrigued by him and what his story was going to be from the beginning. He is such a sweet man and im so glad that he found his forever and let himself love/be loved. Eden is a sweet girl with a past just like Foster's and these two are perfect for each other. I honestly wish all friend groups were like these football players and their families.
Spice rating: 🌶🌶. Spice is definitely not the main focus of the book here.
I am so incredibly grateful to Kaylee Ryan for this Arc opportunity. All of these thoughts and opinions are my own!
Change the Play by Kaylee Ryan gave me ALLLLLLL the feels! This is one of those books that you want to slow down with and savour, but you can't stop yourself from flipping the pages to get to the HEA! Foster is the broody one of the group....he's the "damaged" one, the one who has built a wall around his heart so high and so strong it seems impervious to romantic love. He loves his friends, his "family by choice" and now that they have all found their "one" and started having babies, his family has expanded (right along with is love for them all) BUT, he's not open to finding that for himself. If you don't wager your heart, you can't get hurt, right? Foster knows exactly how that feels and has vowed to never be in a position to feel it again....until Eden blindsides him, that is!
Eden starts working at Foster's house as his housekeeper. Her friend group is small, she really only has her bestie, Carrie, her husband and kids. The instant chemistry between Eden and Foster is obvious and only deepens as they get to know one another. The slow and steady build to becoming friends takes both of them by surprise, but it's how they understand each other and their pasts that leads to MORE! Eden manages to bring Foster out of his shell and makes him realize just what he's missing in his life! Will he be brave enough to let the past go and trust in what he and Eden are building?!
This book had me all up in my feels pretty much the whole time! The heartache, the banter (especially between Foster and his chosen Nashville Rampage "brothers" and their spouses!), the tears when Foster opens his heart the whole way with the people that he loves, the love overflowing for these characters that FEEL real!
Ms. Ryan did NOT disappoint with the BEST book in this series (in my humble opinion) Foster and Eden are right up there with my fave couples from this author!!! You NEED to read this AMAZING, topsy-turvy, rollercoaster ride of a romance that grabbed a hold of my heart and hasn't let go ASAP!!!
I always enjoy Kaylee Ryan’s writing. She has a wonderful way of developing her characters and creating stories that feel heartfelt and real. Change the Play is a cute, easy read with emotional depth.
Both Eden and Foster grew up in the foster care system, which gives them an immediate understanding of each other’s pasts. Foster finally finds stability when he ends up with Coach Pruitt and his wife Hope, who take him in and give him the support he’s never really had before. At the same time, he’s building his football career and is accepted by the Nashville Rangers. In a moment that should be one of the happiest of his life, he asks his girlfriend Violet to marry him, but she says no.
After Violet, Foster closes himself off even more. He never talks about his childhood with his teammates and avoids real relationships, only allowing the occasional one-night stand. Several years pass before his new cleaning lady, Eden, enters his life.
When Foster first sees Eden in his house, he’s immediately drawn to her. Eden feels the same unexpected attraction when she meets him. As she continues working at Foster’s home, their relationship slowly begins to grow. Foster starts making her breakfast in the mornings, and those small moments together turn into something deeper.
Because they both grew up in the foster system, they understand each other in a way few people can. Eden helps Foster realize something he has struggled to believe, that Coach Pruitt and Hope truly chose him and that he likely means far more to them than he realises.
Foster has always had a hard time letting people into his life. He lives with the fear of rejection, even keeping parts of his past hidden from those closest to him. Eden is the one person who slowly begins to break down those walls.
The banter between his teammates is fun, and the care and support between the women highlight the beautiful found-family dynamic in the story.
Overall, this is a beautiful story about healing, learning to trust, and realizing that love , real, unconditional love , is possible.

😊What i liked -
✔Friends To Lovers/Found Family/Forced Proximity/Forbidden/Boss-Employee/Sports. ✔This was such an easy going book. It felt that the story just seamlessly fell into place. Foster has had my attention since the first book. There was just a calm vibe about him. Eden too had a very soothing and calm vibe about her. Their past was sad but it did not overpower the story too much- for which i am grateful because i did not realize i needed a book where i don't shed too many tears and i understood that after reading this. So thank you for pulling my heartstrings without making me ugly cry. I loved how the relationship grows- slowly and steadily. It felt more real. As usual I loved this whole gang of family by heart and really stood with each other in everything. With each book the author has managed to give me a different experience but the end result has been that I have loved them all. So it's safe to say that this Found Family book/series has my heart.
🤔What could have been better-
✔The wait for the next is torture.

Foster Vaughn has always been the quiet, guarded one of the Rampage crew. He's the man who loves his teammates fiercely but keeps his own heart locked away. Growing up in the foster system taught him early that people don’t always stay, so he built his life around control and emotional restraint. Football gave him structure and family, but it never gave him the sense of permanence he craved.
Then Eden walks into his life.
Eden is strength in its softest form. Raised in foster care herself, she understands Foster in ways no one else ever has. She’s resilient, kind, and quietly powerful. She doesn’t try to fix him. She doesn’t push. She simply sees him and offers him safety, patience, and understanding. And somehow, that’s what breaks down his walls.
Their relationship unfolds beautifully and naturally. What starts as small talk turns into friendship, comfort, and trust. Quiet dinners. Easy conversations. Shared vulnerabilities. A slow, steady build that feels completely earned. There’s no unnecessary drama, no messy misunderstandings; just two people learning how to open their hearts and choose each other.
The employer/employee dynamic adds subtle tension, but it never feels forced. Instead, it gives them the space to grow closer in a way that feels organic and believable. Their chemistry is undeniable, but what truly makes this story special is the emotional intimacy.
And the found family? Absolute perfection.
The Rampage crew is the heartbeat of this series. The banter, the loyalty, the unconditional support — watching them wrap Eden into their circle and stand beside Foster as he finally opens up was incredibly moving. These relationships feel real, meaningful, and deeply earned.
At its core, this story is about belonging. About being enough. About learning that family isn’t always blood — sometimes it’s built through love, loyalty, and choice. It’s about trusting someone with your past and believing that this time, love might stay.
