Dissenting with his destiny as a Vampire Courtesan, Kutra “K” Lapin resolves to flee Los Angeles in 2125. His ticket to Meridian, the only human controlled city in an otherwise suprabeing-ruled US, is a transporter known as Tiger, who —by the way— has decided to keep calling K “Bunny.”
Thirteen hundred miles of free-for-all superhighway separates Los Angeles from Meridian. In this journey, the courtesan and the transporter will face clingy former clients; bar brawls; Werewolf, Fae and Warlock outlaws; invisible, firebombing hovercrafts; discover unknown powers, and survive spells and enchantments, all to reach K’s freedom.
And perhaps, in the meantime, find a love that is beyond appearances.

Dear Author, In futuristic/apocalypse USA, most cities are led by the supernaturals. We, humans, become the second class citizen. New York’s leader is a werewolf, Chicago is led by a warlock, and Los Angeles? Los Angeles belongs to vampires. Los Angeles human citizens are marked by numbers on their wrists, based on our blood type, and we must donate our blood on scheduled days for those vampires.
This is where I live. I’m 18 years old, I’m blood type AB, and I dream of going out of this city. I hear that there is still a city where humans still have controls, where they are able to keep the supernaturals out. That is where I’m going— with this bad boy on a bike, whom everyone knows as “Tiger”. I have a deep crush on him and well, on his bike (they both are just so sexy). Even if he annoys me by keep calling me “Bunny” (yes, I know I’m kinda lightweight). But heck, I’ll survive this road trip and who knows, maybe I’ll make him fall in love with me too *smile*
Photo Description: Anime-style depiction of two men embracing at night. A brightly lit, futuristic city is their background, as if they stand on a hill. One man is tall and blond, and the other is shorter with dark hair. They seem to have come to this place on the shiny motorcycle beside them.

Born a Sagittarius in the fabulous year of the Rooster of ’69, at the hour when his cat was about to become a complete dragon, Gabbo de la Parra landed on the Caribbean Coast of the outlandish Republic of Panama to start the adventure of life.
Love and the Internet brought him to Middle Tennessee to embrace the American Dream and his husbandly romance. Writing has been an important part of his life since a very early age, and it’s a pleasure to share his stories with others thanks to the wonderful opportunities this land provides.
Gabbo cherishes Life with a southern gentleman in a townhouse (crowded with the spirits of his characters), close to a man-made lake and with their pets: street-smart Russian Blue Bella and rambunctious Rottweiler Alex.
What a fun story that brought an interesting perspective to all that is paranormal supernatural!
Here, America has been divided into territories ruled either by vampires, warlocks, weres, or fae. K (aka Bunny) is fed up with being a blood slave to the vamps, and he has the perfect plan to get himself to Meridian City - the last human sanctuary where he can finally find refuge and freedom. Thus, he employs the help of hot biker “transporter” Tiger, and what should be a simple road trip ends up being anything but.
Ensue mad chases, magic shenanigans, power struggles between the races, all of which Bunny and Tiger are unfortunately caught in the middle. Throw in a delicious plausible slow simmer between these two and their ultimate win was very yummy and satisfying despite the low smex level.
Another fabulous premise executed with aplomb giving the reader a solid adventure, no doubt leaving them wanting more!
Fun romp in the seemingly incongruent dystopian future where humans have fallen to the bottom of the bipedal totem pole. Bunny's looking for an out and Tiger's his coyote. Nice characters that mix up the "normal" roles and some entertaining escapades along the way. Of course, appearances are deceiving and discoveries are made as they traverse the desolate roads to Meridian. Expect some cheese, some sass, and a whole slew of supras--supernatural beings.
I actually wouldn't mind a bit more. But, I applaud the result in limited time constraints of the event. Might be 3.5 half, but in this case I round up for entertainment value.
Favorite passage:
“You know, I have a name.”
“Using a single letter is too badass for a little bunny like you.”
This story was from MY prompt -- and interestingly, my name had been immortalized as a character (ha!). The banters were great, Bunny got SASS!! LOVED the idea of the Meridian as not simply just a city being controlled by human but also sort of safe-haven from the rest of the supras. By the way those supras that took Tiger and Bunny to see Ami (yes, yes, that was my character's name haha) were crazy but fun!! I wonder what their story is!!
So yep, THANK YOU Gabbo. It definitely fit with what I requested (though I slightly cringed to the sex-industry tag -- but since it was not on page, I was happy) including keeping the sex until the very end. And oh, way to go BUNNY! I loved that ending (). Fun story all around :)
So much fun, and I wouldn't mind if the author decided to write a follow up story with these characters or other characters that were in this story (hint: Tats and Bones) and this fascinating, supernatural world.
For some reason, when I added Meridian, I'd assumed that it was sci-fi. It's not. It is futuristic dystopian paranormal fluff (which is a mouthful, but is also entirely accurate).
In Meridian we follow Kutra Lapin, i.e. 'Bunny,' and Tiger. Tiger is helping Bunny escape vampire-controlled Los Angeles for Meridian. In this futuristic world, America has been divided in to 4 separate areas, each controlled individually by warlocks, werewolves, fae and vamps. Meridian is the only place left that's under full human control.
Bunny hopes to escape to Meridian and begin a new life. In Los Angeles, he's been forced to not only provide regular blood donations for the vampires, but has also been forced in to serving as a courtesan for the city's rulers. I'm glad that the author didn't dwell on this point too much, as it could have taken a very angsty turn.
For his part, Tiger just wants to take Bunny to safety, collect his payment and then go off and find himself a big hairy man to settle down with. He can't imagine himself being attracted to a 'lightweight' like Bunny, let alone wanting to build a life with him.
As it is, Meridian is just a fun, easy, quick-to-read romp. There's a bit of action, and some sexy times. And it's funny. Overall, I liked it. It was a nice addition to this year's Don't Read in the Closet event.
I'm torn again. Started very promising and then kind of got entangled in a whirlwind of ideas and story threads. I found it hard to follow in places. Also, while Bunny was a great cheeky character in the beginning his extreme (verbal) aggressiveness got on my nerves. Also, the romance moved too fast for me, I couldn't really feel the spark between Tiger and Bunny. There were definitely missing 100 pages to this story - it was rather elaborate and the short story left many many questions unanswered.
Meridian take place in a America where the fae, witches, werewolves, and vampires have split the country and rule north, east, west, and south. But, there is the Meridian, where humans have a city and it's to there that K or Bunny hires Tiger to take him. It's a run for freedom that at the end of they'll find out more about each other and what they are than they first suspected.
This book was awesome. A hot bike, a hot biker, a cool road trip and just the right dash of violence. And Madonna found herself a vampire to turn her, so she's still making music 130 years from now! I'd love to read more stories set in this universe, it's absolutely intriguing.
