Frustration shouldn’t feel this good.

Onyx doesn’t need anyone, least of all a mate. He certainly doesn’t need his demon brothers, but can’t seem to get rid of them or their task of helping the magic world adjust to demonkind’s return to the Human Realm.

What’s worse than that? The most annoying, do-gooder witch won’t leave Onyx alone.

Nico Velázquez may have discovered demons in Shearwater Landing by accident, but he’s committed to ensuring a peaceful transition for everyone. Especially if it means working with Onyx.

Onyx is beautiful. Terrifying. Bratty.

Nico can’t get him out of his head. Onyx needs someone to be firm with him. Someone who shows up for him, and Nico would love to break through his prickly exterior and take charge of the demon hiding beneath.

Onyx doesn’t understand why Nico cares. Why does hating Nico feel so good? No one’s ever captivated Onyx like Nico. It’s maddening. If it weren’t for all the wrong reasons, Onyx might think Nico was his mate.

It was... okay. I mean, I enjoyed it, but I was mainly reading for the continuation of the plot. Even though I said on last book's review that Nico and Onyx were my favourites, the hype about them evaporated on these months away from this world and characters, plus the knowledge that they are an open couple put me off, and not by a little bit. I'm glad to say that it's not relevant to their romance on-page nor the plot, but still, not my cup of tea.

The romance felt rushed. And not smooth at all. It lacked depth. It was too easy. Still enjoyable, but cringe at some parts, and I think it has a lot to do with Rivera's way of writing dialogue. In the other books the blatant over explaining through dialogue was something that was kind of off putting but I didn't really care because the story and/or the romance made up for it, and I saw an improvement on that in this book, but it quickly went away in the last 3 chapters.

I still love the characters (I connected to them again at the 50% mark) and the plot is solid (even if everything about Luc's actions and relationships with his brothers sometimes feels too simplified in a way I can't really explain as I seem I can't put my finger on what exactly bugs me), the character development was alright (again, simplified) and I'm looking forward to see what the fourth book got for us.

Oh and Dex and Luc? CALLED IT. Since book one, bitches, HAHA!

Demon’s Desire is my new favorite of the Lovers of the Damned series!

I’ve always had a soft spot for Onyx but my love for him grew even more in this book. Yes he was our sassy, bratty demon with a soft spot for his brother’s mates but there was a lot hiding underneath too. I enjoyed diving more into his backstory although at times it broke my heart and just made me want to give Onyx a hug. As for our caring witch, Nico, he was the best. His protectiveness and his understanding of Onyx made me so happy. He never hesitated to give our demon what he needed.

On another note, there was some relationship repair between Onyx and his chosen brothers, Ash and Dante, and loved it. It has always been clear that the trio would do anything for each other and it was so nice to see them open up to each other.

I’m looking forward to the final book in the series. I can never resist a good redemption story.

*I received an arc of the book. All opinions are my own.*

ARC review

I have to say, Onyx was favorite so far (we'll see when Luc's book comes if it still we be). I was dying to read his story. That poor baby, he just wanted people to be with him and not leave him. To be loved and not forgotten. He was greatly misunderstood and just a brattie cutie pie.
Nico was so good. He was there for Onyx and saw his pain. He didn't let Onyx push him away, he stayed.
Honestly, I loved them. They suited each other so perfectly, it really was fate at work.

"𝙸 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚔 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚖𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚙𝚞𝚗𝚒𝚜𝚑 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚕𝚕 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚜𝚊𝚖𝚎."

Nico had quite the struggle on his hands to capture Onyx's heart, but he was one determined witch. Onyx didn't make it easy for Nico either. He fought hard, especially when he realized his own feelings were growing for the man. Onyx had been hurt too many times in the past by people who were supposed to care about him, so you could understand why he was so reluctant to give his heart away. Thankfully, after discovering their mutual kinks lined up perfectly, Nico was able convince Onyx to be his in much more satisfying ways than arguing.

"𝙸𝚝'𝚜 𝚘𝚔𝚊𝚢. 𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚖𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚐𝚘𝚘𝚍 𝚒𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝'𝚜 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍. 𝙸'𝚖 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚕𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚐𝚎𝚝 𝚊𝚠𝚊𝚢 𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊 𝚋𝚛𝚊𝚝 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚗 𝙸 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍."

While Nico and Onyx are navigating their growing bond, they also have to spend time working with the vampires to handle the little demon exodus which happened at the end of the last book. Of course Lucifer also has to pop up and throw more chaos into the ring. I don't know if I trust that man one bit, but I definitely softened on him a smidge by the end, which is good because Lucifer's book is next.

Back to Onyx and Nico. It was a bumpy road to their HEA, but I am glad they got where they needed to be. Their relationship isn't exactly conventional, which the author does put in the foreword of the book. Though they are mates and remain committed to each other romantically for the inevitable future, they also have an agreement which includes playing with others. Boundaries are set and both MCs are thrilled with the arrangement which is all I want in my romance. And ending where both characters are happy and content.

Updating to my actual review now and that star rating will not be changing only because there are no half stars on here. If there were I would be bumping this up to a 4.5 star rating cause the overall story is best with this book in my opinion. I did receive this ARC from GRR for my honest review.

Onyx: He is a little broken and feels abandoned by his brother Lucifer and by his found family Ash and Dante. He just wants to be wanted and wants to be loved and wants to not be a passing thought in people's minds. He also feels used like he isn't thought of unless someone needs something from him. This is why he is such a brat and gets attitude with people, especially his brothers. Now Harper and Ollie are the exception and it was so cute seeing his friendship with those two.

Nico: He seems a little timid at first and then all of a sudden he has had enough and fights back in a way. He realizes that Onyx is acting out more than trying to be combative. Onyx just needs a firm hand and Nico is going to be the one to be there for him. He realizes that he is a brat because it is how Onyx deals with his emotions. Nico is perfect for Onyx.

Ugh this story just had my heart all twisted up. I felt so much for Onyx and just wanted to give him a big hug. Lucifer of course is back and there are even more demons on earth as well. We are getting closer and closer to the ending of the major conflict and I am excited to have this closure.

Demon's Desire is the third book in the Lovers of the Damned series. This series is best read in order due to an overarching plot. This is the story of Onyx a demon and Nico a witch. This series just gets better with each new book. These two were definitely meant to be together with how well their personalities worked together. I loved watching these two work out their own problems while still helping each other. I loved the story and how it that family love is so important. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Dante and Ash have their mates, Luc is trying to kill them, they believe, and now it is Onyx's turn to discover that love, a mate, might be the one thing he has been avoiding and the one thing he really needs. As much as he likes to think, to show others that he doesn't need anything or anyone, Nico is getting under his skin and he might even like it...

The biggest problems Onyx is about to face all centre around honesty. He needs to be honest with himself about a lot of things, then he needs to be honest with his brothers, firstly about the 'visits' Luc has been paying him and then he needs to be honest with himself and with Nico about how he is feeling. Instead of bottling up all his frustrations, instead of boiling over and letting Nico calm him perhaps what he needs is to accept his needs. But Onyx is perhaps the most stubborn of the brothers and it is going to take a lot of convincing to make him see the truth, to surrender to his needs.

Nico is fascinated by Onyx. He is a witch and very aware of the paranormal, he is new to the world of the demons, it is his assistant, Ash's mate, who bought him into that world and he is able to introduce them to some vampires. All the species may not get along but there are connections, friendly, political and romantic to be made, being made. Nico is fascinated by Onyx. The demon is gorgeous, bratty and terrifying but none of that will deter Nico and when Onyx surrenders the pleasure is beyond anything either have known before. But someone is trying to get to Nico. They have been through his apartment and now the demons have strengthened the wards around it and the Herb Emporium, he feels safer but is he?

As the overarching plot continues to develop we still have plenty of Dante, Ash and the little mates (as Onyx refers to them) in the story but this is very much Onyx and Nico's. From the outset we can see there is something between them and I am a huge fan of the way Colette Rivera has developed both their characters, Onyx in particular is just brilliant, he is like a millennia old bratty toddler! With so much to enjoy about this series and this latest title I recommend taking time with them all. I did and its worth it for the sheer pleasure of watching the story unfold.

Nico is the stern temptation that can fulfill Onyx's need. This is the 3rd installment of this series and it is my favourite. grumpy/sunshine MCs, magic, witches, vampires and of course demons. Onyx the youngest and the smallest of the brothers and has made a life for himself in the mortal realm. He has created a literal wall around himself with an art gallery that blends in the city's upper crust. Because of his care for his brother's new mates, his walls begin to crumble. Onyx's likes to stay out of the politics of the mortal/immortal world but when his expertise is needed by his family he reluctantly joins the fracas. Nico is a witch comfortable in his life herbalist, friendly with the mortals and immortals alike. When he meets the beautiful Onyx and on coming changes to the world cause him pause. Onyx believes that he will never have or find a mate. Hiding behind cold indifference, the mating of his brothers through him through a loop. When he meets Nico, he can't get the witch off his mind. As far as grumpy/sunshine tropes go this story adds a need that can only be met by Nico. Nico is a strong and comfortable in his own skin. Onyx's power doesn't frighten him. He just wants to tame a little. The relationship grows from constant growly and sniping to under cover need that can only be satiated by Nico. Onyx and Nico's relationship progresses nicely. The banter, the consternation. hot spice competent each other. Both characters are made for each other. The change to mortal world isn't what kept my attention, their relationship did. I don't want to go into plot details but the world building was solid. Overall, the relationship felt real and it hooked me. I would recommend this read and suggest read in order (I did not).

This is Book 3 in the Lovers Of The Damned Series and these books are interconnected with an Overarching plot so do need to be read in order 🖤

🌶🌶🌶.5

This book Follows Onyx and Nico. I honestly couldn't wait for Onyx's book because I knew there was going to be so much more behind his Bratty attitude and then we find out Nico is his mate and I melted. Nico is the perfect mix of Protector and Care Taker which means he can take everything that Onyx dishes out at him but is also will be there to comfort him after too 🥹 Nico is able to read Onyx like no one else has taken the time to do before and he see's Onyx's prickly nature stems from his abandonment issues and him being a Brat is really a test to see who he can push away and who will stay so we really just have a broken boy here in need of some serious snuggling and maybe a firm hand 😉
Onyx has to balance the possibility of finding his mate with the whole chaos of Lucifer and the other demons while Nico also has his own dilemma with the Vampires and other covens so this one was just nonstop from the beginning but somehow these two come together and learn to lean on eachother and what it means to finally have someone in your corner that's not leaving. I'm so happy these two got their HEA and boy am I excited for this next story because this one left us with so much to unpack!

From the moment Onyx first appeared in the series, I knew his book would be something special—and it did not disappoint. Beneath his bratty, sharp-edged exterior lies a deeply vulnerable soul, and watching his layers peel back was both heart-wrenching and beautiful. The revelation that Nico is his mate. Nico is the perfect balance of strength and tenderness. As a Protector and Caretaker, he doesn’t just tolerate Onyx’s fiery attitude—he understands it. Nico sees through the bravado to the abandonment wounds underneath, recognizing that Onyx’s defiance is really a test: who will stay, and who will walk away? Nico stays. He stays and comforts, challenges, and cherishes. Their dynamic is electric, full of tension, healing, and yes, a little spice.
The plot doesn’t slow down for a second. Between Lucifer’s chaos, demonic threats, vampire politics, and coven drama, both Onyx and Nico are pulled in every direction. Yet somehow, amid all the supernatural turmoil, they find each other. They learn what it means to have someone in your corner—someone who won’t leave, no matter how hard you push.
Their journey to a hard-earned HEA is packed with emotional depth, action, and moments that will make you laugh, cry, and clutch your chest. I’m thrilled they found their way to each other, and even more excited for what’s next.

*I got an arc*

CW: familial abandonment/trauma, near-fatal injury of a MMC, bratty sub/caring dom elements in the primary relationship (consensual spanking), discussion of sharing partners in future, abusive ex-boyfriend of a side character targeting her and one of the MMCs.

Onyx is frustrated: his brothers have roped him into their problems and yet they do not keep him informed of things he should know. Worse, there's a witch named Nico who knows Onyx's identity and ~tragically~ seems to want to know Onyx better. But everyone leaves Onyx eventually-- why would Nico be any different? Lucifer *seems* to be making amends, but can Onyx trust the brother who betrayed him so many times and harmed Harper and Ollie?

***

This book is my favourite in the series so far (I've read it twice). I have a fondness for the brats and am especially fond of Onyx: I love how feisty he is with his siblings and Nico and how that contrasts with how careful he is with the dancers at Rowan's club. Nico & Onyx are well-matched and I think it's excellent that "Demon's Desire" thinks about the potential power imbalances between people in their twenties and immortal demons. This series manages to have moderately high-stakes coupled with the tone of an easy-read and it works wonderfully.

I can't wait to see more from the pairings alluded to in the epilogue!

Third in series (Lovers of the Damned), best if read in order. Paranormal. Fated mates. Light BDSM. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

To Onyx it seems like his brothers only contact him when they need something, and he’s trying to forge something between himself with their new mates while the witch Nico hovers. Nico feels some kind of pull to Onyx, maybe Onyx just needs a friend or maybe something else, but Nico wants to give it to him.

Being in each other's orbits allows Nico to peer beneath the bluster and walls that Onyx throws up, and fortunately Onyx slowly allows Nico to comfort him in ways he’s never allowed anyone to before. The push and pull between these two was so fun to read, Onyx is never hurtful and Nico never gives up as they banter their way into a tentative relationship. The turning point in their closeness came abruptly, I wish they had more communication between them, but I did enjoy how in tune Nico was to Onyx. This series is super entertaining, and even fated mates have to trust and learn to love and those parts are well done. 4.5 rounded up

Onyx never wanted a mate. All he ever wanted was to not be left behind, to finally find a place where he belongs. But despite the long history with his demon brothers, he still feels like he's just a convenience for them to reach out if they need him, but not more. Upon meeting Nico, Onyx' annoyance at having to work with the infuriating witch is at an all time high. But somehow Nico can read him like a book and is the first to give him exactly what he's been craving for all his existence.

This. Series. Is. So. Amazing!! I love all of the Demons and their mates so much. Did I think Dante and Ollie would be my favourites? Yup! Did Onyx and Nico prove me wrong and climb right up there next to the others? They sure did. The way Nico knows exactly what Onyx needs to hear, even if Onyx has a hard time admitting it to himself is so heartwarming and hot....holy shirtballs, these two have amazing chemistry 🥵.
If you love fated mates, stand alone love stories with an overachieving plot, action, found family and spice, go out the "Lovers of the Damned"-Series on your TBR!!

Onyx has lived his life alone and does not need his brothers. But things have changed and Onyx needs to help. He, along with Nico Velázquez, are to make sure the word goes out that demons are now on Earth. He finds Nico annoying, especially when he tries to help him. He has no clue why Nico would even care. Nico is not quite sure himself. He finds Onyx to be beautiful, terrifying and quite bratty. Maybe Nico can help Onyx.

Onyx was deeply hurt and used snark to keep every one away. Nico saw through him and wanted to break down the barrier he had built. Onyx really just wanted someone to see, someone who would stay for him. Nico wanted to do that for him, but had to work up to that himself. These two were perfect for each other in so many ways. It was a delight to watch them work toward their happy ending. This series get better and better. Luc’s story is next. We shall be anxiously awaiting that story.

Book 3 in the series. Continuation of the fallen demon brothers finding their fated mates along with underlying danger with Lucifer. I really enjoyed it...a lot of emotional moments but fun quirky ones that kept this a page turner. This romance was a little different then the previous ones I think since Onyx didn't recognize Nico at first as his fated. The spark was there but...it took a bit....I would say more than half of the book before the light bulb came on between the two. A lot of denial and bratty behavior by Onyx and Nico was there for it. He was a solid and trustworthy presence that Onyx needed. Their journey to love was rough but ultimately fate prevails. I love the wrap up/epilogue at the ending. Just like previous books we get a peek in the future of how the mates are doing and a very subtle look what's coming. Next book in series should be good...can't wait!

The love of brothers for their mates and each other

This book in this series is about how Nico and Onyx realize what they are to each other and also about the wider story of all of the other demons and what happened to them. I don’t want to give things away, but this book is very exciting and brings in the wider magical world more to the story. I liked how Colette Rivera makes the love of siblings more of a focus in this book and I really think a lot of people can understand Onyx’s feelings about not being loved and accepted. There always had to be some kind of reason behind how he acted in the previous books and this one. It’s this kind of thing that makes her stories more interesting and also makes them feel more realistic even though they are about magical beings. I know that the main group of brothers have found their mates, but I really hope that there are more books coming because I really like this series.

ugly-cry, earthy citrusy, reinforced spank, little butterfly, evil grin, reverse psychology, lavender pucker, toss the plug, painted ass

Although there's a Book 4 in the works, the series feels complete. The 3 hellhound brothers all have HEAs. I can't wait to see what Book 4 does! This book has moderate BDSM elements, and was bearable to me.

Nico's and Onyx's is fraught with challenges and angst. It's also ultimately heartwarming, steamy, anda beautiful supernatural romance. There's a lot of action, some mystery, and tense moments. Of the 3 books, I'd be hard-pressed to say which is my favorite. They're all great, fantastic even. And each of the 3 pairings are very sweet and satisfying.

Nico is steady and grounding to Onyx's snarky and rude brattiness. It's amazing how Nico can see through all that and actually tame him. I adored them and really enjoyed their story. I earnestly recommend it.

4.5/5 Oh, gosh, Onyx is such a brat, lol. But his abandonment issues are extremely well-grounded in reality, and I appreciated every minute that he learned to open up to Niko. Onyx is the prickliest marshmallow who has ever existed. I loved how much he cares for Harper and Ollie, as well as the growing attachment to Niko that he can’t admit.

The two of them fit together so well, even if neither of them is sure of it to begin with. I liked that they weren’t just compatible in the bedroom, and that Niko was also so good about working out what Onyx was really feeling and saying behind his snark. It was so satisfying when Onyx really started to feel safe and cared for.

I really like how everything was resolved, and I can’t wait for Lucifer’s book!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Review for (Lovers of the Damned-3) Demon's Desire by Colette Rivera

I have found another fantastic author. Colette Rivera sucked me in from the first page. Since I have reviewed for years, that means a lot. I have read so many authors and story lines that it is refreshing to find an author who can write a great world, along with the intriguing characters that keep me wanting more. To me, that shows a great writer. The story between Onyx & Nico was fantastic. I loved it when Onyx came to the human world, as told by Nico; it was fantastic. I was rooting for them from the start. I love it when a book pulls me in and helps me to escape from the real world for a bit. Sometimes we just need that to stay refreshed. This book did that for me. I will be looking to see what Colette writes next.

Man this series just keeps getting hotter! I knew Onyx and Nico were going to hit it off as soon as I saw them connect in book two but I was not prepared for the implosion. Onyx has always been my favorite brother with his snark and attitude coming from a place of deep hurt. I knew he was going to need somebody who could do wits with him yet also see underneath all of the pain that he hides. Nico with his ability to love everyone and be kind was rubbing Onyx the wrong way until Nico started to show his dominant side. Then he can rub Onyx in all the right ways for all the right reasons. The dramatic conclusion of the battle between Lucifer and his brothers was full of emotion and action just as I expected. It's hard to believe there's only one book left so I kind of hope we see some of the side characters because I'm going to be sad having to leave all of my favorite demons behind.

Demon’s Desire is book 3 of Lovers of the Damned. This series has an overarching plot and should be read in order.

Onyx, a sharp-tongued demon with a soft heart, meets his match in Nico, a protective witch who sees right through his walls. Their dynamic? Pure magic. The dom/sub tension, the emotional vulnerability, the “I’ll be good for you” moments…Rivera makes it all feel both filthy and tender.

What really got me was Onyx’s yearning to be seen, to be chosen, to finally matter. Nico gives him that with quiet, unwavering devotion.

The worldbuilding continues to impress, expanding the demon, vampire, and witch lore, but the emotional core belongs entirely to these two.

Demon’s Desire is raw, sexy, and heartbreakingly sweet underneath the chaos. Colette Rivera balances kink, emotion, and lore like no one else. My demon baby finally got the love he deserved. 🖤

Thank you to the author for the review copy.

I knew I was going to love Onyx's story ever since we meet him in the first book. He was such a soft person under the harsh act and rude voice.

Onyx and Nico were made for each other. It was all about how easily Nico understood how to read Onyx even though they had not known each other for long.

Onyx's bond with Ollie and Harper was so sweet. He was always so soft towards those two even before he started loosening up in front of others. His willingness to forgive His brother with time because he wanted His brother to still be a part of his life showed how he might be the best of all the demons.

I am also excited for Lucifer's story. I love a good redemption arc and even though some of his actions were hurtful I think there is a bigger picture here.

'Onyx didn’t want a mate. Didn’t need one. He had no desire to put his hope in someone like that. Tears streamed down his face as he flew, but no matter how fast he went, he couldn’t escape his thoughts.
What if Nico was his?
The possibility was terrifying.'

I was so happy to continue this series. I've loved it so far, and this book did not disappoint. Good world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Nico and Onyx from the start. Onyx was a sassy brat and I liked being in his head. He had a good heart, though, and his bickering with and grousing at his brothers made me smile. Nico was a great match for Onyx- liking his bite and up for a challenge. I liked the build up of attraction between them, and thought their personalities balanced each other well. This story was a fun adventure and a great romance. 5 stars

Alright

Thankfully, I was right. The writing has improved, and now I finally figured out why I know this author, I read another book by her, and I liked that one. Which makes these ones more disappointing in a way. The lore is still choppy, feels stretched out for too long with little to show for it, and even though Lucifer’s redemption arc has been supposedly been planned from the beginning, hasn’t been well set up. I think if the books were shorter and the lore better planned out, these books would be fantastic. A few revisions, some more ideas to make the lore and history make more sense instead of the author and writer figuring out the lore as they go would make these series fantastic. I’m hoping for a revised edition, because the ideas are great, the execution, not so much.

Such a great story! I knew Onyx was going to make me want to cry! He’s such a snarky brat pushing everyone away. That’s not exactly what he wants but that’s his way of doing things. He’s actually a very protective sweetheart! I love how he is with the mates! Nico is just the sweetest and sees right through Onyx which makes me so happy! These two are quite funny at times but they are just adorable together! It made my heart happy that the brothers’ finally talked and got some things out in the open about their relationship. So many wonderful characters and a great storyline. Very enjoyable and entertaining and I highly recommend! Can’t wait for the next one! What a great series continuation!

Onyx is SO fiesty, I wasn't sure what romance would look like for him, but Onyx and Nico!? Chef's Kiss. Love these two and they JUST WORK! They were able to match each other's freak and support each other through emotional moments. Great banter. Great spice. A fun couple to follow through and through..

Overarching plot in this one was great as well. Luc is back, but not in the way we think he is. And enemies are at every corner it seems! Great to see some teamwork across all our previous main characters as well as just the familial love. Fun collaboration with the vamps - VERY excited for the top vamp's book coming soon. And Luc's book? Oh I can't wait...

Demon’s Desire by Colette Rivera is book 3 in the Lovers of the Damned series. This one was not completely what I was expecting and to be honest I almost didn’t read it after I read the forward. Onyx and Nico are mates but choose to be non-monogamous. But I guess I didn’t really understand why….

But I pushed through because I desperately want to read Luc’s story. I did enjoy how the main overarching plot progressed and I’m looking forward to book 4. This one just left me wanting a little bit.

I am also looking forward to the vampire spin-off with Rowan’s coven. Should be good.

I received an ARC from GRR for my honest review.
