Eheheh! Nurumi's Squad finally appeared. :D

Yuu lying and confusing the hell out of Narumi was just the funniest scene.

Shinya being Yoichi's mentor is doing things to me.

I still like it.

I really like the art (even though that I still can't keep Yu and Yoichi apart -.-).

Now, the plot thickens once again and I'm curious what the fight with the royal vampires will bring (and who will survive).

With Seraph of the End 7, our main characters along with Guren's squad are sent out on a 'suicide mission' to take out Vampire nobles in Nagoya. Shinoa Hiragi has to hone her 'kids' into a team-focused fighting force if they are to survive the coming battle. To test them, Guren stages a mock battle and easily defeats Shinoa squad. Even with 3 black weapons at their disposal, the team will be in the fight for their lives as they attempt to take out the vampire nobles.

With this volume, we get to see the post apocalyptic areas outside of Tokyo as well as are reminded of the relative inexperience of Shinoa Squad. But we do get to see more of Guren's squad mates - a treat for those who have read the light novels.

There's little about Mika and the vampires, though once again we're shown his struggle to avoid drinking the blood of captured humans - and survive to save his friend from the humans.

By the end of the mock battles and travel sequences (where the team members play pranks on each other), the battle to take out a 15th progenitor noble begins - and immediately goes wrong. It's almost certain that Shinoa Squad will lose members to the vampire menace.... Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Only thing that really stuck out during this was Hiragi appearing and Mika saying that Krul's blood wasn't enough

This volume is mostly setup: The Imperial Demon Army is trying to take out 8 noble vampires in a set of simultaneous attacks. Yu and the Shinoa squad will be participating in one of these – but is their teamwork up to scratch? We get a closer look at Guren’s squad – who, somewhat suspiciously, were all in the army at age 15 BEFORE the apocalypse! Brief scene of Mika being self-loathing as usual…but actually controlling his bloodlust quite well, to the point that the other vampires seem to think he has an eating disorder! Also, Shinya competes with Mika for “best boy” award, as he voluntarily and cheerfully joins the probable suicide mission solely to back up Guren, and serves as sniper mentor to Yoichi.
This volume is more like a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 because of the weird pacing. Some of the slower stuff at the beginning could have been cut (there is a LOT of bickering) or re-located to the next volume so more of Yu and company’s fight with the noble could fit in the last chapter of this one.

I've watched the anime some time ago and started to read it last year (but never cared to inclued the mangas I read) and I still like it. But I can't read more than 2 or 3 chapters at once. After that I tend to get confused.

Since manga and anime are still close together regarding the story I'm not surprised or totally fascinated, but I've some memories of what's going to happen. So I look forward to reading the next volumes.

4.5 ★

The story is really starting to pick up now and I enjoyed this volume a lot! The Moon Demon Company are preparing to launch their attack on the Nobles and Yu and the gang have been teamed up with another squad. I like that we’re getting some new characters, although so far all they’ve done is fight with Yu... But we got to see a lot more of Shinya in this volume so that made up for it ^-^ Looking forward to seeing where the story goes next, now that we’re getting deeper into the action!

I preferred this content when it was about one and a half episodes in the anime because I forgot how frustrated I got with Shinoa's squad being forced to challenge Guren, a member of his squad, and Shinya (bless his soul). Thankfully, we're now on the battle against Lucal, which is the turning point for the emotional content I LIVED for, so this series should look uphill from here.

3.5/5 brought up to 4 for what it adds for the series in terms of seriousness, militarism, and more complex fights. This volume covers the build up to and start of the Human-Vampire War in Nagoya. The volume has a heavy focus on the human military side and its squads as we're introduced to Narumi's and Guren's squad, and get a squad bonding experience that follows into a Guren and Shinoa squad battle.
This is a fairly battle-light volume with a few pages on a Shinao and Guren fight and the start of the fight/assassination attempt on Lucal. The Shinoa and Guren fight is very fun. It reorients the battles to be more team-based which is enjoyable. The need for teamwork allows for fun fights with powers working together and reinforces the theme of family that tje series is pushing and I'm looking forward to more team-based fights. This tracks with the Lucal fight which is far more tactical and "military" for a lack of a better word and is enjoyable.
The big military feel of this volume is welcome as it establishes the scale of the soon-coming Human-Vampire War in Nagoya. It also helps create a clash of idealism wih military realism in this volume. Multiple times in this volume the hopefulness and naivete of Shinao's squad is called out which is nice. The story wants to reward their hopefulness. Having it be called out considering the circumstances helps the world remain as dark and hopeless for their hopefulness to really shine and have weight (if that makes sense).
While we don't see much of the vampire side what is there is okay. It's a bit of a retread but we see Mika's moral struggle which continues to be interesting. We see it very little but he is continually slipping closer and closer to drinking blood / having to embrace and act as a non-human. The continued fragmentation of the vampire world into factions as seen with Lucal's dialogue is nice as well as see how those not aligned with any factions tiptoe between them all.
My gripe about the series being extremely talkative is still here but with intrigue, battle tactics, and army insider strife, and some funny scenes its okay. I get it wants to be a mystery/intrigue-action but sometimes the volumes are just a little bit too much intrigue and mystery with too little action. But next volume seems to be hyping up as action heavy.

Shinoa Squad heads off join the rest of Guren Ichinose and the various Japanese Imperial Demon soliders following him to the battlefield at Nagoya, only to find they’re far behind most of the other squads. Guren’s personal team isn’t hesitant to hammer in their shortcomings during a smackdown right before Yu and his new family find themselves pitted against a ruthless vampire noble, while working with a team that doesn’t trust them. In the meantime, Yu’s old family is finding it harder and harder to resist his lust for blood, torn between his former human sympathies and his vampire nature.

There was quite the character explosion in this volume. Not only did Guren and his team take a more central part, but Shinya Hiragi keeps showing up and insisting on helping Guren. Shinya is quite the fun, flirty character, teasing Guren and Yu alike, while being a helpful mentor to Youichi as a sniper. One wonders if Shinoa didn’t pick up her wicked sense of humour from him. Shinoa finds herself getting chastised for her playful nature in this book, while Yu makes steps towards becoming more a team player, defending Shinoa while clashing with both Guren and Makoto. It’s clear that Guren has a soft spot for his fiesty little punk, for all he picks on Yu. One also senses the beginning of a camaradie beneath the bickering between Makoto and Yu as well. The design of the new vampire was striking, reminding me of certain pop singers during the 1980s. The action and character development kept me engaged, even as if the plot of this volume didn’t move as fast as the previous one. The interpersonal interaction and lively banter made up for it. For all of these elements brought together in a gorgeous art style, I give this four stars.

A lot of build up but really fun!! The demon army is preparing to launch an attack and kill eight vampire nobles at once.

It's a lot of the kids goofing around and then getting roasted the entire time for being bratty kids. Like damn sorry the child soldiers are indeed children lmao.💀

When Shinoa and Mitsuba were pranking Yu and Kimizuki by leaving them behind when they were driving to the meeting place I'm sorry, that was so funny. Then fucking Shinya showing up in a sports car.😭

Actually lowkey in love with Shinya too now unfortunately. His gun weapon is soo cool and him constantly giving Guren shit while actually being friends was great. Excuse me for being a lover girl and always wanting to ship characters but it felt like they were flirting and I absolutely ship them now. 🫶

I loved the training fight between the squads like yeah you guys have some really cool powerful weapons but you're 16 and don't know how to work together for shit.

Guren and his entire squad though damn?? They are all hot as fuck and beat Shinoa's squad's ass. All the women on his squad have such good outfits and I wish they were more standard for all the other women because Mito's outfit is the best. 😭😭 This military is so weird how it lets everybody customize their uniform??? Anything for the drip I guess though.

The way we just keep constantly getting only tiny bits of Mika every volume and each time he's just suffering immensely?? I feel so bad for him, he's literally baby.😭

I actually don’t have a lot to say about this volume. 5 stars is my rating for the series as a whole, but this volume specifically would lean more towards a 4 star rating for me. It was quite boring, to be honest. I just finished reading it and I’m having a hard time remembering what happened.

Hazing the rookies? Not interested. Very unnecessary scene that didn’t really prove anything we didn’t already know.

Taking out the vampire nobles? I’d like to see them try, then we’ll talk.

Mika’s continuous starved attitude? It’s getting a little old. At this point I need to force him to drink human blood myself. Preferably Yu’s.

Guren’s new squad members? Hello. Nice to meet you. Already forgot everyone. Same goes for the newly introduced Narumi squad. If they actually want me to remember all these people they better be recurrent characters, in a non-boring way please.

What else. The 15th progenitor? I don’t remember this dude from the anime. He looks like a vampire, literally, unlike all the other ones. Sounds like trouble, but again, nothing too interesting.

It looks like they decided to stuff all the boring details in one volume. I’m expecting better in the next one. I really struggled with this one. Still love the story and characters, but since it’s 1 am, fighting off sleep while reading this was hard.

Kimizuki serves as the cover boy in focus and he looks amazing. Honestly this is one of my favorite covers so far and its not just because after Yuu and Mika, he is my favorite. I really like the colors the cover has as well as how well his hair color fits into it. Also his pose is so cool. Really cool cover.

The included miniposter is great too as it has most of the characters introduced so far. It is really good.

This volume is another one of those comedy ones where most of it are the kids goofy around, indeed one of the funniest scenes is when they take the car and goof around by leaving Yuu and attempting to leave Kimizuki behind. I loved the additional moment when they meet Narumi, who Yuu, seems to annoy (also Narumi so gullible). In any event the ensuing showdown is interesting.

Speaking of showdowns, we finally get to see everyone in their leveled up forms take on an actual ranked bloodsucker. Really awesome development.

Bonuses included afterward, chibi art, and more worldbuilding content.

Can we please get more of Mika? Every issue he is like there for only a couple of pages and been on blood lust for the last 3 volumes…

Shinoa’s team are on their way to the rendezvous point with the Moon Demon Army. The play plan to exterminate the Noble vampires that are gathering around Tokyo.

We meet other members of Guren’s squad. General Shinya tag along on the suicidal mission. The team arrive late and Guren is not please. This is a serious mission and many lives are at stake.
Yuu and his friends are assigned with Makoto Narumi’s team. There is this whole speech about the importance of family and teamwork. This start to become quite redundant. The gang of kids get some battle training vs the other squad and of course, they get their asses kick.

I didn’t like this volume that much, yes there is some funny moments, but I felt this way mostly filler before a more important part.

I’m starting to realize that I prefer watching the Shinoa Squad interact and the action scenes rather than watching anything story related. The vampires are annoying as ever so they’re never entertaining to watch. The only issue I have with some of the action is that some of attacks are blurry and make it hard to tell what’s going on.

I will say the opening scene where the girls keep ditching the guys is hilarious and seeing Yu and Guren’s interactions always put a smile on my face. Yu’s becoming a little too sappy for my taste, but I love his willingness to accept responsibility and even cover for his squad members. He’s grown quite a bit and I do like him a lot more now than in the beginning. The squad itself is fun, lighthearted, and genuinely great people who care deeply for each other.

A fun series to be sure, but can it keep the fun going?

Kagami provides a strong volume here. We're made witness to the youth and determination of our team, and he heightens the tension right before sending them into conflict by having them easily defeated by another squad in an exercise meant to demonstrate their need for growth and improvement. Nevertheless, as combat is finally joined in the last chapter, Yuichiro takes the lead, impulsive, angry and determined as ever.
