Corinne Michaels completely shocked me in the best possible way with Defenseless. Romantic suspense isn’t always my cuppa- I really need to be in the mood to want to read one. I prefer more emotional books with all the feels (like her Consolation/Conviction series ;) ). No one was more surprised than me when MARK ended up being my favorite hero that she’s written. He’s laugh out loud funny, sexy and the sweetest. Completely lovable. And Charlie is just the kind of woman he needs- the type that will keep him on his toes and gives him a run for his money!

 photo 7CE33469-AF2B-499F-8CF0-3D44FCF78A3A_zpserdevnef.jpg

We all know what Mark does for a living. He was a Navy Seal and now he works with Jackson in his security firm. Charlie’s life is a secret. Her job as a CIA agent is a secret. Neither of them trust easily (especially Charlie). They both have something they’re looking for and trying to figure out, and they are the only ones that can help each other. Both of their reasons for looking into this person/case are extremely important and personal to each other. And both of them have to open up and trust one another. Which isn’t easy.

On top of all that going on, they are experiencing extreme chemistry and a connection to each other. As much as Mark tries to pursue Charlie, she is hesitant. Until the point where she can’t resist him anymore. Because it’s Mark Dixon. And we all know his charm is irresistible. He’s already fallen for Charlie and she’s well on her way to falling for him. She just won’t admit it to herself.
“I can’t fall for you.”

“Too bad.”

“You can’t fall for me.”

“Too late.”

 photo A3B5A884-7542-490E-AA24-6830B65ACFB5_zpsbqy1ot6w.jpg

Mark and Charlie were explosive together. They were alike in so many ways, yet different too. Their back and forth banter was wonderful. Mark’s fun and sparkling personality brought some light to the heavy story. And Charlie was fierce, strong and confident. Just the type of heroine I love.

This story did have a lot of suspense. It also had a lot of humor, love and steam. You get to see/catch up with some of the gang. Technically, it can certainly be read as a standalone, however I highly recommend reading Corinne’s other books first. You’ll get to meet Mark and see a lot of the back story of what’s going on with his side of things. Also, at the end, there were parts that really surprised me. I love not being able to predict every little things that’s happening.

If you’re looking for a romantic suspense novel that’s full of action, humor, friendship, romance and unpredictable moments- you’ve found your next read!

My life is a secret.
His life is dangerous.
We’re both stubborn, calculating, and controlling.

Mark Dixon doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know his games could cost us our lives. I have to do what is necessary to keep us alive, and that means guarding my heart. But I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.

If you're a fan of romantic suspense, Defenseless is definitely a book you should be checking out this year! After reading Consolation & Conviction last year, I fell in love with Corinne Michael's writing -- her stories are addictive, fast-paced, and absorbing -- so naturally, I just had to read this as well!

Defenseless is a sexy contemporary romance about an undercover spy heroine and a Navy SEAL hero teaming up to work a mission together to take down a big bad guy who has caused a lot of pain to people they love... and all the while, they slowly fall in love. The fun thing about their dynamic was that they were BOTH strong, stubborn, badass, dominant, and highly trained in their respective fields. These two operatives went toe-to-toe on everything and more-often-than-not ended up butting heads along the way resulting in some pretty fun and hilarious banter heavily laced with the sexual tension and sizzling chemistry that anyone could see they shared. While she desperately tried to not get involved with him, he was equally relentless in his efforts to convince her to give them a shot. Needless to say, the combination of these two together was... explosive! It was Alpha guy meets Alpha girl. No surrender.

“Sounds like we’re going on a mission.”
“The only mission is us.”
“And what are the risks?”
“That you’ll fall in love with me.”
“Is that so?”
I laugh as his arms tighten. “Yeah, I’d say the chances are high.”
I peer at him from the side. “I’m not so sure.”
“I never fail.”

Admittedly though, I've always had a love/hate relationship with the romantic suspense genre in novels. For some reason, I sometimes find the mystery side of things harder to follow in books (which is weird considering that all my most favorite shows are the ultra-tactical badass action ones like Strike Back and 24). So it always takes me just a little longer than usually to get 'into' these types of books. So, I did find the beginning a little slower, but once I really got into the swing of things, I was IN. Fully invested.

This story is told in alternating first-person POVs between Charlie and Mark. It swaps back and forth every chapter and I found the transitions smooth. It's also pretty evenly balanced between the romance and suspense sides of the story. There's a strong romance storyline (full details, no fade-to-black, lot of steam, swoon, and all-out sexiness) at the heart of the story, but there's also an intricate and suspenseful mystery going on as they try to figure out who these bad guys are and how to track them down.

“Sometimes the lie is safer than the truth.”
“I’ll protect you. Do you believe that?”
“Mark.” I can barely speak. I know he wants to think he can, but there are some things even he can’t stop. Instead of letting me finish, he takes me into his arms.
“I can live with your lies. As long as you don’t lie to me.”

And intersperced throughout this all is that awesome banter I was talking about earlier!

“You know you can’t resist me.”
“Is that so?”
“I rev your engine, baby. I speak your language. I’m your weapon of choice.”
“Oh, Jesus. You need a shrink.”

Teehee!!

After the 75% (ish) mark, things definitely picked up speed in a major way and I'm pretty sure I read the whole rest of the book after that point without putting it down even for a minute. No blinking!

I’m thrown to the ground and Mark rushes to cover me. Always protecting me, giving me his body as a shield. This is love. He’s the guy who will take the bullet. The guy I’ve dreamt of being with.

Luckily, this book has a fully resolved ending! Unlike her previous books, this is a standalone so you do get a complete story within this one book. It's fun, sexy, suspenseful, and romantic! A really great read!

“I’m not a man who easily throws things away. Even when this house is falling apart, I’ll find a way to fix her.”
“Her?”
The intensity in his eyes softens, “I’ve learned women are usually the ones that give me the most headaches. This house definitely fits the bill. So, she’s a chick. A giant pain in the ass woman who drives me bat shit crazy, yet makes me need her at the same time. Sound familiar?”
I burst out laughing. “I don’t know what the hell I see in you.”
“Humor, good looks, sex appeal, the fact that I have a big dick probably helps. I mean, really, the choices are endless.”
My eyes widen as I listen to his self-proclaimed attributes. “Perhaps the big dick helps.”
“Yeah.” He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me flush against him. “Feel free to tell me how much you love my ginormous dick anytime…”

*snort* LOL!

While this can easily be read as a standalone, it's also interconnected with this author's previous books. The author has structured it well so that if you read this separately, you won't be lost. The deal is that all the heroes work together... so their characters do cross over at times along with interconnecting elements. However, if you haven't read any of the other books, you'll get things filled in. So it's totally up to you how you want to read them. Personally, I've read Consolation/Conviction, but not Beloved/Beholden.

Bottom line is that this was a sexy and suspenseful romance that was equally hot and intense, with a strong, stubborn, badass couple falling in love in the midst of chaos!

“Shhh,” he murmurs. His lips press against mine. “You can keep fighting as much as you want, but so will I. And I fight to the end.”
“Why me?” I ask…
“Because no one else sees through your lies. No one has ever tried. You’re worth everything hiding behind those blue eyes.”

Rating: 4+ stars!!
Contemporary romantic suspense standalone.

5 "Just Us" Stars!
 photo Defenseless - Corinne Michaels_zps4sjl4smu.png

It's an amazing feeling to read an amazing book after not liking the last one you read. I am so happy to say that Corinne Michaels continues to amaze me with her novels, I really love them!

Defenseless can be read as a stand-alone novel but it is closely related to Corinne's Belonging Duet and Consolation Duet so I recommend you read the other four novels before reading this one! I am quite sure you will fall in love with the couples: Jack/Catherine and Liam/Natalie ;) Now, this novel is about Mark Dixon (Jack's best friend, former Navy SEAL and the funny and sexy man that is capable of everything to keep his beloved) and Charlie Erickson (a CIA agent that has helped Jack's team, a woman who seeks revenge after the death of her father and also one that makes the situations difficult for Mark because she is afraid of caring about someone).

This is what I wanted, what we both need, but suddenly I wish it wasn’t. I wish I could pull him close, kiss him, fuck him, and just feel.
But wishes are for little girls.

Mark and Charlie meet while saving someone in a mission and they instantly feel a connection. Time passes and now they work together as a team again now against a man that is guilty of the death of Charlie's father and also he is related to all the 'difficult' events that have happened in the other novels by Michaels.

Obviously, these two happen to be together all the time and the sparks are still there and stronger that ever. Mark is all in since the beginning (he expresses that very strongly! haha), he wants Charlie and he will have her. However, Charlie is afraid of the feelings she is having for him because she does not want to lose anybody else after losing her father on a CIA mission.

“I’m warning you, Charlie. For some reason, I like you. There’s something that keeps me coming back, even when I tell myself to stay away.”
“Mark.”
“I’m telling you, something’s going to give. It’s been a goddamn year and you infest my mind.”
“Mark.”
“There won’t be a way for you to avoid me forever.”
“Mark!”
“You and I will happen.”

Still, the h/H are not able to keep the distance and they start having super smokin' hot sex and this leads to, finally, falling in love. Mark and Charlie have an amazing chemistry: they are direct, funny, sweet and obviously, off the charts hot. I really enjoyed them as a couple and also their interactions with all the other characters.

“You can keep fighting as much as you want, but so will I. And I fight to the end.”
“Why me?” I ask as he pushes deeper than before.
“Because no one else sees through your lies. No one has ever tried. You’re worth everything hiding behind those blue eyes.”

“Just send Erik in,” he instructs.
“God forbid you use the damn phone and call him. I swear you only do this to me.” Natalie turns on her heel and stomps off.
“I love you. Let’s make more sparkly babies!” he yells after her and then turns to me. “I don’t really, beautiful. Don’t get jealous.”

Mark is so freaking funny lol I loved him to pieces, he is my favourite character in Defenseless! Again, Corinne does not disappoint with the story and the characters: they are complex but still have amazing relationships between them. I really cannot wait for the next story in this 'series' which I have seen will be about Quinn (Liam's best friend) and Ashton (Catherine's best friend). So exciting!!!!

“All night, beautiful. I’m going to take every second to show you.” I shiver as his lips touch the sensitive spot where my neck meets my shoulder. “Every inch of you will be touched,” he promises. “Every part of you will be mine.”

Therefore, my rating for Defenseless is 5 STARS because I really loved the plot, the suspense, the characters and the love story! Mark and Charlie are amazing together and again I love the good chemistry with the other characters too. I just can't say enough times how funny Mark is, seriously! Corinne Michaels.. I am definitely ready for more! So, if you want to read a good story, with amazing characters and a couple that has super hot chemistry? I highly recommend this one! :)

This STANDALONE story is PERFECT. Mark is PERFECT. The dynamic between the hero and heroine is PERFECT!

Defenseless is about ambition, survival, fear, revenge and love. It takes the reader on a romantic, heart stopping ride. A ride that's fast paced, action packed, intriguing and emotes the perfect level of emotion for the feisty adventurous couple at the heart of this Contemporary Romance. Since being introduced to Mark Dixon in a previous novel I very much anticipated his moment in the spotlight when his promise of fictional potential could be fully explored. He's everything the text promised and so much more. As he fully emerged through the course of Defenseless I fell hard for this devilishly sexy hero who’s loyal, protective, and enamored me with his charisma, intelligence, strength and power. His happy go lucky persona, confidence and forthright nature, borders on being a little cocky but is totally endearing and richly juxtaposes against the serious nature of his work with Cole Security Forces.

Charlie is more than a match for Mark with her hard working ethos as a CIA Agent, her ambition and a rich history forcing her to actively seek justice and truth. She’s strong, resilient, independent and brave, craving control in all areas of her life but, through the course of the story, learns how wonderful relinquishing control can be.

Their work throws them together but equally it could be the one thing that keeps them apart. They've both lost people. Their past shapes their lives and drives them in their present ensuring the mission comes first. They both have the same ethos but there’s a pull between them that’s depicted eloquently throughout the suspenseful narrative. The romance beautifully entwines itself through the layers of suspense that convincingly drives the story arc as the characters navigate their unexpected feelings. The author catches the romance of this couple with the utmost care to detail. I felt every ounce of their feelings. The angst of the rights, wrongs and the wants of their situation, the development of their feelings as they slow danced through the avalanche of their emotions, expectations and fears. Their banter is on point as is the brilliantly pitched tug of lust and intolerance of each other. The ebb and flow of their dialogue depicts them as tenacious and quick witted making me smile and laugh, and capturing my heart with the best kind of heart-warming, romantic book-feelings, the exact feelings I crave from my reading material. I basked in their flirtatious banter and the slow dance of their courtship. She’s not sure why he affects her and vice versa but the mutual chemistry is intoxicating. The character development, dialogue and banter between the hero and heroine are on point. Their dynamic and undeniable chemistry is brilliantly portrayed as their battle of wills plays out in the prose and they journey towards their destiny.

The supporting cast all add that little extra something to the shape of the story in terms of moving it forward and showing aspects of the protagonist’s characters. Fans of Jackson will be in Muffin heaven. I’m not familiar with his story but, even so, the narrative pertaining to him moved me, it’s so very, very beautiful. I fell in love with one of them, a supporting cast member who shows so much story promise; I hope to see him in the future!

Defenseless made me think and feel and love, it made my heart beat fast with the anticipation of what could happen as they fought through their mission and feelings. Secrets, lies and truths all unfold in this wonderfully layered romance with picture perfect prose that has depth, danger, intensity and suspense at its core driving the story and engaging attention. I was addicted from the beginning to the very end. I read Defenseless at the end of 2015 and my love for all things Mark and Charlie secured this story a place in my top 16 reads of the year! This story is a MUST READ for all those who enjoy Contemporary Romance with suspense, intrigue and wonderfully multifaceted characters leading the way.

Mark your calendars this book is coming soon and you will definitely want to read it! I loved it so much! It has everything I want in a book! I devoured it, it was hot, addictive, mysterious and suspenseful! I had already read Liam and Natalie's story and I loved it but I have to admit that I enjoyed Mark and Charlie's story much more! I loved the bond they had and just everything about them!Apart from the characters being interesting, the mystery that surrounds the story was also quite intriguing!

Charlie and Mark have to work together... But both are attracted to each other. Even though Charlie doesn't think her feelings for him are appropriate.

"And what if we find something else?"
"There is no room for feelings in this world."

But can they resist each other?

Mark is amazing! He is smart, hot, cocky, arrogant and funny! There were so many times that I laughed out loud! But he isn't the only one that attracted my attention, Charlie the main heroine is also fantastic! She is badass, strong, independent and sexy! Now you can imagine what would happen every time these two were together...It was like an explosion! I can't even explain how fantastic their chemistry is...And the sex was off the charts... It was simply passionate, intense and hot!!!

"I told you I'd kiss you again. If you don't stop me now, there's no getting away."

Overall it was an amazing story and the plot was captivating! This book can be read as a standalone but because I also liked Liam and Natalie's story, I think you should read all the books!!

If you have read The Consolation Duet or The Belonging Duet then you know Mark Dixon. I have been looking forward to this story since I really got to see him in Conviction. Mark has always been a leader, but he also knows how to keep things light and funny. Seeing Mark in Defenseless though, I hate to admit it, but it had me questioning my love for Liam.

The story really picks up a year after Aaron’s rescue. We learn that during that mission Mark met Charlie. A female CIA agent who was working undercover trying to locate a terrorist. Mark and Charlie are thrust back into each other’s lives when she offers to help him in uncovering the attacks on Cole Security. The decision to work together is mutually beneficial as Charlie is trying to uncover the secrets surrounding her father, the former Director of the CIA’s, death.

Mark was everything I thought he would be and more. Yes, he was funny and quick witted, but he is also a dirty talker and not afraid to boss Charlie around. He is a dominating, alpha male and watching him pursue Charlie brought a huge smile to my face.

Charlie is strong, confident and capable. She isn’t like a lot of our heroines that need reassurance or have issues with their past. She is the female version of Mark, maybe not as dominating, but in her own way she is a force to be reckoned with. Just as much as I loved watching Mark pursue Charlie, I loved seeing Charlie banter back and forth with him. . I loved how she was all about the mission, but when it came to Mark he always made her crumble.

I think Corinne kills this series and I loved all the feels in her other books, but she really surprised me with the suspense and intrigue in Defenseless. I can honestly say the plot was unpredictable and I didn’t see the ending coming. When an author is capable of delivering, funny and sexy and suspense - color me impressed!

I highly recommend Defenseless! It's fresh, fun and exciting definitely another win for this series!

This is my first ever read from Corinne Michaels and I loved it. I am totally hooked and have a lot of catching up to do.

Mark and Charlie's story is incredible.

I was not even half way done with Defenseless and I was so intrigued with the character of this story and the bond that they have developed I had to get the other books right away. Yes , this is a standalone, and it can be read, loved, and understood without reading the prior books, but once you read Defenseless you will be hook.

Defenseless is all about trust, friendship, love, loyalty, sacrifice, and battling your fears. What I loved the most about the story is the unbreakable bond that this amazing group has.

This is a must read.

3,5 “Vampire Boy” Stars.

Charlie is a CIA agent, her life is a secret and she keeps everything about her private and closed, especially her heart.
Mark (you probably know him from the previous books by this author) is a SEAL and he meets Charlie under the worst circumstances, in the middle of a mission.
Both of their lives are in constant danger and neither of them wants to get to close to another person, because they know everything can chance in a second. But they will also realize that some wars are just not meant to be won.

description

Since I’ve met Mark in the Consolidation Series that I was hoping for his own book. And it didn’t disappoint. I didn’t like it as much as Liam’s story but that’s probably on me. While the previous book focused more on the romantic part of the relationship, this one, maybe in spite of the heroine’s profession focused a lot on their professional life, turning this into a very good romantic suspense book. And I’m not the biggest fan of suspense romances (I need to be in a special mood for that). And during a good part of the book I found myself wishing for more “couple time” and less work scenes. However, if you are not like me and love romantic suspense full of actions and steamy scenes, this book is a very nice choice.

Characters Development: Charlie was a very strong heroine and I liked how she didn’t backed down from anything. There was moments where her strength and stubbornness were frustrating, but most of the time I did like her. Mark was also very good, he was sweet, sexy and I loved his goofy side that was always there even in the most “wtf” moments. It was nice to see more of Liam and Natalie!

Charlie Erickson is a CIA agent living in DC. She lives in a man's world & can take care of herself. Her life is always about the next mission & being the perfect spy. Taking on the secret life of whoever she is pretending to be can get lonely though. She recently is obsessed with investing a case concerning someone close to her & avenging them.

Not too long ago Charlie met a former Navy Seal named Mark Dixon while on a mission. She hasn't been able to quit thinking about him. Mark also can't seem to get Charlie off his mind. They have a lot in common. Both put their careers first & are used to being alone. They are also both extremely strong & will fight for those they love & consider family.

Mark has worked in Virginia Beach at Cole Security Forces since he left the military. Someone has been trying to destroy & take out him & his friends one by one. Everyone at the office is a potential target & he wants to protect those closest to him. When he crosses paths with Charlie again they decide it would benefit them both to pull their resources and team up to solve their problems. They clash over who's in charge and the sexual tension is through the roof. We get some action & some seriously hot sexy times! Mark is absolutely hilarious as usual & we also get plenty of all the other hotties from Cole Security. Really enjoyed this one.

**** 5 'JUST US' STARS ****

This book had my emotions all over the place. I can't say enough about how much I loved it. This book was hot and while there was certainly plenty of sex, there was also a romantic side to things and a fun, sweet family dynamic that came into play. Honestly, the suspense was so strong in this story that I was a bit surprised at just how well done the characters were. Their chemistry was viable and I truly hated to leave them when the story ended.

The both of them will work together to solve the mystery around Charlie’s father’s death and find evidence behind the ‘drugging her to sleep’ attempt at a party. Nothing makes sense because everyone seems to be a suspect and nothing is what it seems. It’s like everyone knows that everyone spies on everyone else. Spy networks are intertwined and Mark and Charlie need to know what plots are being prepared against them and who is behind them. Two are better than one!

My thoughts: The pace of the story was good. Mark’s character was so well written and I absolutely adored Charlie. She was a complex character, but had a lot of personal issues that she needed to work through. Wish she wasn’t such a hardass when it came to opening herself up to the possibility of love. Geez! She had me wanting to shake her. All in all thank goodness for her Mark an alpha male, which was the type the male she needed! I couldn’t help but feel all the powerful emotions that she felt when she was around Mark. What’s better than a guy who is totally hot AND completely hiralious!

The chemistry and tension between Mark and Charlie literally jumps off the page at you and sucks you in. Their worlds collide one day and they find it hard to separate them again. Can two people who couldn’t seem more different really have something in common and enough in common to try for a relationship?

It’s a book that can seem sweet, yet can turn up the heat, all at the same time. The female has the right amount of strength and vulnerability to make her a real person. The only thing I found frustrating was how much she fought what she really wanted and that was him. It’s a good romantic suspenseful read, one that leaves you guessing who did it all the way to the end and this really fit the bill for it. So all in all I give this story lots of thumbs up!

Mark was hoping to find his friend and teammate but instead found love. He found her. Charlie isn’t your typical romance heroine. Feisty, stubborn and completely kickass. Defenseless is the story of one former Navy SEAL falling head over heels for a badass CIA spy.

Cole Security is being targeted, but no one seems to be able to figure out why. With Jackson being shot, Aaron being captured and now more contracts under fire; Mark “Twilight” Dixon is going to stop at nothing to get to the bottom of this mess. Even if that means enlisting the help of the woman that stole his breath and all sense. Charlie has been undercover for two long years, upon her return to the states she finds herself pulled from the operation and with time on her hands. But it appears that the problems at Cole Security might just be tied to the same man that Charlie has been on the hunt for, but the reasons why remain a mystery.

Screenshot_9

Although Defenseless can be read as a standalone novel, it ties in to four prior books, so Mark has been a character that I’ve grown to love slowly over time. But nothing could have prepared me for him. He has always come across as this funny-take-nothing-serious guy, and even with his past as a Navy SEAL. I think what I loved the most about Mark was the balance between his humor and his resolve. Once he was in, he was in.

From the moment Mark meets Charlie, it’s over. He knows it. There is no going back.

“I’ve never seen anyone like her. I’ve never reacted to anyone like this before. I want her – any man would – but I want to own her.”

Screenshot_8

But our Charlie isn’t one to get swept up easily. Her life has been the CIA. From as far back as she can remember, she was groomed for this role. Falling in love wasn’t part of her plan. But once she gives into the physical attraction – it’s far too late to stop her heart from taking every bit that Mark is willing to give her.
“Love me, Mark. Love me for tonight,” I say as a tear falls. “I’ll love you for much longer than that.”

Now there is quite a bit of action in this one, a little bit different than the prior books; as this story brings us some closure to the open storyline that started with Jackson’s book. But I loved the balance of the plot related to the investigation and the love story unfolding.

There was no better match for Mark than Charlie. He needed someone that would put him in his place. Someone that could dish it out as well as she could take it. These two were such opposites in their behavior, but once you got them alone everything just clicked into place.

Screenshot_7

Corinne Michaels does a brilliant job with Mark and Charlie’s story. From every little moment to the much bigger picture, it all played out flawlessly. And although we get our moments of laughter whenever Mark opens his mouth, we get scorched when this man decides to push the sexual tension to the next level. For all his laid back behavior, he reminds us over and over again just how much of an alpha-male he is.

“You’re going to take it all. Every inch of you will be filled. I’m going to ruin you, princess.”

I was completely enamored by Mark. It did not take me more than a few pages to realize that this book was going to become my favorite of the series. There was just something about their dynamic that I could not get enough of. Although Liam’s books will always hold a special place in my heart, Mark just was so much more than I ever could have expected. Or wanted.

4 Solid Stars for My Mark!

This series was seriously awesome. I fell fast for Jackson Cole and then I was 100% team Liam. Their stories were emotional and steamy. There was always that one supporting character that never had enough scenes though... Mark Dixon!

Mark, aka "Twilight," is so totally fun. He is a constant breath of fresh air that keeps life moving and light, yet underneath all that bravado and brawn is a stone cold soldier. He is smart, strong and beyond loyal. Nothing interferes with his missions or his end goals...unless it has a pair of stunning blue eyes and can shoot an enemy with one hand tied behind her back. Charlie...the sassy CIA operative who seems completely immune to the charms of one Mark Dixon!

This is a typical push-pull relationship of sorts. A lot of chasing and resisting and even more hot steamy furious intimacy. It was all quite good. Unlike the prior reads in this series, there is still dire situations and danger all around, but the personality of Mark keeps even the most tense moments entertaining. It is really hard not to fall for this character and to want so badly for him to get a HEA. I guess if I had to rant it would be that Charlie worked me a bit. Don't get me wrong I loved the toughness and intelligence. Her internal dialogue and struggle was so good. I just found myself cringing at times with her actions and constant wall. I like sass but sometimes she worked the B**** angle a bit!

Obviously I still really enjoyed the read! Great storyline with even greater writing. There is mystery and a constant sense of fear, but among all else there is passionate love that comes to two people who are seemingly perfect for one another.

Ohhh My God can someone bring me Mark wrapped up with a bow on his d*ck neck...?????

Ok let's get to the book!
I really enjoyed this story.I loved Mark and I liked Charlie, and of course I read about my favorite Liam&Natalie from "The Consolation Duet".This book was funny, smart, hot, with strong
characters, more suspense and some surprises.....It was more light and funny compare to "The Consolation Duet" which I've read.

Jesus, these people are amazing.I mean they know the amount of time to keep coms down. How to trick the equipment.I should've been raised by them, not my cookie-baking, porn-stealing mother.

This book is Mark's story and how he found his soulmate...I really enjoyed this couple, they were so much alike it was terrifying...both strong, determind, competitive and really hot for each other....
Mark was my favorite he adored the ground Charlie walked...I mean he was very open about his feelings and tried hard to make her see that they were great together...Their interactions and arguments even when they were intimate were out of this world...AnD a great Forplay...!
Now I liked Charlie but I didn't love her because she was constantly in denial with herself about Mark...like I want you but I shouldn't all the time...which got me on my nerves a little bit...but I focused on Mark and his big ego....

This is the CIA op?This five-foot-four drop-dead gorgeous woman?
No wonder she gets information.I'd sell my soul if she asked.

These two were amazing together, I mean they argued hard and fucked even harder...

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a good military romance. Defenseless reminded me how much I enjoy the sub-genre.

Mark, a former SEAL turned independent contractor, and Charlie, a CIA undercover operative, meet during a mission. Mark is a cocky, irritating but loveable smartass, and Charlie is stubborn, secretive, and feisty. There’s instant attraction on Mark’s part, but definitely no Insta-love between the two. Together they are oil and water, which makes for some delectable chemistry. Charlie and Mark bicker constantly, and he’s quick to call her out on her crap, but it’s highly endearing and flat-out funny. There’s a lack of unnecessary relationship drama—which I really appreciated—and just the right amount of sexiness.

The first couple chapters seem bogged down by the number of characters and how each player relates to each other. Further confusing matters, Mark’s friends are sometimes referred to by their given names and nicknames interchangeably in the same scene. Natalie, Lee, Sparkles—I thought they were three separate characters, but no. It’s one lady. Once I got over that initial hump, it was fairly smooth sailing.

The intricacies of their dual mission were sometimes lost on me, and I confess I wasn’t overly interested in the investigation. However, the plot is primarily character-driven, and we’re given a fun cast of characters to enjoy.

This book has a little bit of everything: intrigue, action, bad guys, suspense, humor, and romance. Corrine Michaels cleverly ends each chapter on a mini-cliffhanger, daring the reader to put the book down. Defenseless is a delightful standalone novel.

Omg!!!!! What a ride!!!
My heart is still pounding! This isn’t your typical love story and that is why I loved it so much. It’s not anywhere close to predictable. Ms. Michaels took a lot of turns I never saw coming and I LOVE when that happens. Mark’s character is amazing. He’s a total alpha male with an amazing sarcastic sense of humor. He made me laugh and swoon with the same sentence. Mark is the total package! I totally fell in love with Charlie! She is one of the most amazing heroines I’ve ever met. She is very strong, very independent, and a straight-up all around bad a$$. When her and Mark get together it’s more like dynamite than fireworks. This book is hot, mysterious, swoony and addictive! This can be read as a standalone but if you’ve been following The Salvation Series you’ll get to see some of your favorites make an appearance!

A sexy sinful romantic suspense that captures every raw emotion, betrayal, fourberie and heart-pounding action as readers are immersed in Corinne Michaels' newest release, Defenseless. Prepare yourself for unguarded full force of passion, lust, hope, second chances, and revelations. Secrets and truths will be revealed. Loyalty will be tested. And hearts will be defenseless as two strangers fight the inevitable outcome. LOVE.

photo dab14068b56c25bf3315356ae4755a_zps56lhcqja.gif “Charlie isn’t the kind of woman you move on from. She draws you in with the brightness of her sun and then leaves you blind.”

Defenseless is the story of Mark Dixon and if you read The Consolation Duet or The Belonging Duet then you would be familiar with Mark and his relations to working with Jackson Cole's security firm. And to think that I got an idea of what to expect with Mark, Corinne Michaels surprises her readers as she melts hearts as we are bewitch with his raw and charming personality. Hearts will definitely be defenseless as Mark Dixon etches his way into book boyfriend category.

#Defenseless

photo dab14068b56c25bf3315356ae4755a_zps56lhcqja.gif “This is what I wanted, what we both need, but suddenly I wish it wasn’t. I wish I could pull him close, kiss him, fuck him, and just feel.”

Defenseless takes place a year after of Aaron's rescue and we are introduced to Charlie, a CIA agent who was working undercover during the time of the rescue mission. From the moment that Mark met Charlie, he was bewitched by her presence and feisty personality. And so Mark and Charlies are reunited as they are thrust again to work together as they discover and expose who is behind in wanting to cause harm to Jackson, Aaron and Mark.

photo dab14068b56c25bf3315356ae4755a_zps56lhcqja.gif “Every time I look at you, it literally takes my breath away.” When he returns his gaze to me again , I melt. Every part of me becomes liquefied, and I want nothing more than for him to take me in his arms. I’m falling for him. Against my will. “I see you, Charlie. I see it all.”

As readers are pushed and propel into a world of suspense, intrigue and mystery, Ms. Michaels turns up the heat as she seduces readers to the explosive chemistry of Charlie and Mark. Together these two detonate a story filled with passion, lust, heat, sensuality, sex and steam that will have readers like myself begging, craving and wanting more of Mark and Charlie.

#Defenseless1

photo dab14068b56c25bf3315356ae4755a_zps56lhcqja.gif “Our tongues dance as his hand grips my ass. Mark’s kisses aren’t gentle. There’s no give and take. It’s take and take some more. He growls and grinds his cock against my leg. His hands are relentless holding my face as he controls the kiss. He demands this kiss. He possesses this kiss. He possesses me. ”

I honestly don't want to say more of what to expect in Defenseless because this book is about peeling layers of secrets, truths and hidden desires. All I can say is Mark will definitely have readers questioning whether him, Jackson or Liam will be your favorite hero. What I can attest is Mark will surly leave his mark as one of the most sexiest alpha hero that I have read.

photo dab14068b56c25bf3315356ae4755a_zps56lhcqja.gif “His words , his heat, his touch makes me want to sob. I want him more than ever. I’m soaking wet, turned on, and pissed off. It’s not a good combination. ”

With Corinne's impeccable and exquisite detail, raw characters and electrifying prose, she will leave readers defenseless as we are doused with layers of passion, suspense, intrigue and love. So if you are ready to fall in love with a sexy hero, a sassy heroine, and one explosive story then I would definitely recommend you to read Defenseless.

4 Charlie and Mark Suspense Filled Stars

I have enjoyed all the books in this series and I just hadn't got around to reading this one but I was looking for a good audio book and thought that an excellent author paired with two cracking narrators , Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber , was a book well worth listening to.

Mark is part of Cole Security and is Jackson's best friend. Charlie is a CIA agent - she is involved in the backdrop of the drama that has been weaving through the books. These two have an instant attraction but there is no plan , certainly on Charlie's part of theirs being anything more than a hot , lusty , sexy physical experience. Charlie is a complex and guarded character but I liked how Mark got her to loosen up and just have fun. It was hard to warm up to her at first but I did like her once she unclenched a bit!

I'm trying not to give away spoilers, suffice to say there are a lot of twists and turns and the story is very violent in places (I don't often read suspense so I am aware that my opinion of 'very violent' is likely me being a bit of a wuss).
The narration was superb and the pace of the story was good - it kept me guessing.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

*ARC received from publisher/author via blog tour*

Ok, Ok, I’m gonna sound like a broken record when I say that this is my first Corinne read despite the fact that I own her previous books. Seems a pattern to me that I sign up for blog tours for authors whose books I already own but not read. I know it’s taking a chance bec had the book I signed up for ends being a dud (which has happened, unfortunately) then I’m stuck with previous books that I now have no inclination to read (which has happened, unfortunately). O well… I still think there’s a method to my madness going about it this way…

Moving on, this book luckily ends up on the winning side. Whew! (Jackson and Liam, imma comin for ya!!)

Mark and Charlie met during an assignment to rescue one of Mark’s friends. Friend got rescued, they each move on their own merry ways, they each have a mission to focus on, realized their individual mission has more connections so they decided to work together again. Along the way, feelings materialize. They’re always at each other’s throat which made the dynamics more interesting.

Charlie, Charlie, I’m sorry to say that she got on my nerves on more than one occasion. In spite of much details Corinne gave me as to why she feels and thinks a certain way, I didn’t always agree with her decisions. Mark, now he’s a different story. I thought Corinne did really well in making me fall in love with him right from the first page. He’s funny, he’s adorable with his snarkiness, he’s badass with his Navy SEAL ways, he clearly knows how to care, so really, swoonalicious in every manner I can think of, sigh…

This is like a meeting of 2 alphas. There’s much banter which was quite entertaining. The story, I thought, was laid out quite nicely so the suspense built to a good climax. By the 70% mark, as much as Charlie was testing my patience, that got put on the side when I realized sh!t was about to go down. Then, I was just really engrossed in the story. So I guess it’s safe to say that Mark and their mission carried me thru 2/3 of the story then Charlie also helped by the last third along with Mark and the sequence of events.

With what Corinne did with Mark and his interactions with the other members of Cole Security and their women, I get the feeling I will totally enjoy her previous books… Whew!

MARK!!!! I swear, if all of Corinne's past H are like him, definitely more excited to get to them!

I went into this book blind and read the belonging series but didn't read the consolation series. So you meet Mark in the belonging series and his hilarious so I knew I would love this book.

I really enjoyed the main characters their chemistry and banter was amazing! It had a fantastic suspenseful storyline and kept me listening all day.

Charlie is s bad ass take no shit CIA agent and as soon as my boy Mark sees her, well he literally falls head over heels. Mark was an ex navy seal and they two have very similar personalities maybe that's why they rev each other up so much.

A great read and would definitely recommend it to anyone. It is a stand alone and you don't really need to read the other series but it gives you a better idea of what's going on

“Charlie isn’t the kind of woman you move on from. She draws you in with the brightness of her sun and then leaves you blind.”

There are so many dynamic elements in play throughout this story that will not only leave you yearning for more, but leave you completely sated as well.

Action packed.

Adventurous.

Romantic and filled with sexual tension, Defenseless is just downright EPIC!!

Under Mark's silliness and quick wit hides a dominating alpha that will blow your mind. Meeting Charlie has brought perception to his life, he sees a future with her and he isn't afraid to pursue her. Charlie is a sassy, confident, kick ass woman who's quick to put Mark in his place and give him her two cents.

But in the world of spies and NAVY seals things can get rocky and putting your emotions on the line becomes a huge risk.

Their chemistry is off the charts hot and sexy. I just loved watching these two banter back and forth. It literally brought me joy, but what I loved most was watching Mark fight for Charlie in those moments where she struggled with her feelings. He made her feel alive, after enduring a major loss and that alone won my heart.

Defenseless is filled with suspense, emotion, and intrigue. Tons of funny times and so, so good!! Secrets are revealed and Corinne will make sure to leave you hanging on the edge of your seat once again.

Defenseless by Corinne Michaels
4 stars!!

“… I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.”

Well, finally it was Twilights turn aka Mark. He has always been the comedian of the group, the smart ass, he is overly confident, self-assured, comes across as flippant and has that “I don’t take anything seriously” attitude, but he was a fantastic leader, he just lightened up the office. But despite his demeanour and as much as Mark would never admit it, he was deep in his own way. Being an ex-Navy SEAL he loved control, he was alpha, he was intelligent, but he also had a heart of gold.

“I rev your engine, baby. I speak your language. I’m your weapon of choice.”

This book really carries on from the last and although this could be read as a standalone I would highly recommend reading all the books in the order they were published. The plot does continue on throughout and the characters also appear in other books, so for a better understanding and hell, all the books have been great reads I would recommend going that way forward.

Charlie is in the CIA, she is one ballsy woman and has a spitfire personality to match. Her father was also high up in the CIA so she has been born into the business and takes it extremely seriously. Charlie was feisty as hell, tough as old boots, extremely dedicated and was one kick-ass woman, she was deadly.

“…I know right then that this woman will not be owned, but she sure as shit will own me.”

Mark and Charlie’s paths cross and there was no denying the unmistakable chemistry that pulsed between these two, it heated the kindle to boiling point. The banter between these two was hilarious and Mark had really met his match. Charlie gives as good as she gets and while at first it comes across as that love/hate; you know underneath the barbs is some intense sexual chemistry that once unleashed was going to be extremely powerful.

“I can’t fall for you.”
“Too bad.”
“You can’t fall for me.”
“Too late.”

Mark being the forever bachelor had really met his match and the fact that Charlie was so kick-ass just turned him on even more. While there are criminals to catch Charlie and Mark try to keep their libidos in check but resistance is futile but it was fun to watch them try.

“Charlie isn’t the kind of woman you move on from. She draws you in with the brightness of her sun and then leaves you blind.”

Corinne Michaels really delivers the suspense with this book, I was kept on the edge trying to figure out the mastermind behind what seems to be a connection between the CIA and Cole Security. There were too many coincidences and it seems that Mark and Charlie’s paths are more intertwined than they ever thought. With danger lurking all around them would these two even survive to see where their relationship could go?

This book was intense at times and as ever Corinne Michaels really delivered on character connection. Emotions running high gave you that heart stopping fear at times as well as making you smile from ear to ear. The witty banter between Mark and Charlie has you laughing out loud so all that emotion, suspense and intrigue is perfectly balanced with some incredible dialogue. It is the relationship between Mark and Charlie that really cements them as great characters, one minute you are laughing your ass off and the next you are swooning, these two really endear themselves to you and you cannot help but champion them along. Another great addition to one highly addictive series. You have to love the guys and girls at Cole Security.

“Without you in my life…it’s worthless.”

Full Review on Brianna's Bookish Confessions.

If any of you make me choose between Twilight, Muffin and Dreamboat, I might cry. Usually I have a favorite in a series, but I LITERALLY CANNOT pick, I love these 3 men so so much and all for very different reasons! Asking that kind of question is like trying to ask what my favorite book/music/movie is… I can’t ever pick.

I’m so glad this wasn’t a cliffhanger- if you’re familiar with Corinne’s previous 2 duets, you’ll know those have cliffhangers, this one does not. Like the previous 2, this is intertwined. This follows Mark and Charlie – both characters we meet in Consolation Duet. (Mark before in Belonging Duet). Even though I read backwards and read the Consolation Duet first, I have been absolutely beyond excited to read Mark’s story – he was HILARIOUS.

Because this is a standalone, I don’t want to give too much away by doing a synopsis. I think the one above can give you something. I do recommend reading the other 2 duets first since they will make an appearance in this one. Unless you don’t mind being spoiled (some things from both couples books get mentioned), by all means read this first. But you should meet Jackson and Liam first! Mark makes plenty of appearances!

4 Twilight Stars!!

“Charlie isn’t the kind of woman you move on from. She draws you in with the brightness of her sun and then leaves you fucking blind. There’s something deep and dark inside of her.”

Corinne Michaels has done it again. Defenseless was so unexpected and has such a different feel from the other books involving these characters. Defenseless is Mark and Charlie’s story. Mark is a man on a mission, wanting to get answers for what happened to Aaron and why things keep happening that shouldn’t. Charlie has intrigued him since the moment she helped rescue Aaron. The two of them share an attraction, an explosive connection. They want to explore it, but can’t because they need to keep their head in the game. But, as time goes on; these two quickly discover that their connection won’t go away. They are defenseless against the way they feel about each other. But, as they give in to what they want, the stakes have gotten even higher…

As I previously stated, Defenseless is so different from the other books that I’ve read by Corinne Michaels. Without going into too much detail, I can tell you that this book will answer a lot of questions. You will get to see how the rescue mission happened and how all the dots will align. Is there romance? Yes, there is tons of delicious, sexy moments. Mark and Charlie do not disappoint. But, there’s more to it than just the romance. There is action. There is drama. There is suspense. There is intrigue. And there are lots of good twists and turns that will leave you wondering who you can trust and who you can’t. This book definitely takes you on one thrilling ride.

Defenseless was a great addition to the Salvation Series, but can be read as a stand-alone. However, I do recommend checking out the other books in this series prior to reading this one, only because, I think you will enjoy Mark’s story even more. I loved getting to spend time with all my old friends from the previous books and seeing how their lives have continued to go forward, has left me with a big smile on my face! Defenseless was a fantastic read. If you are a fan of the Salvation Series, you won’t want to miss out on Mark’s story!

Wow, this was a great read!!! It’s a fast paced romantic/suspense, the highlight of which is definitely the chemistry-filled, hot as hell romance between two stubborn alpha badasses. Full of fantastic banter, laugh out loud humour and a swoony, sexy romance, I absolutely loved it!

This is the fifth book in the Salvation series. It follows on from the Beloved Duet and the Consolation Duet, and features Mark ‘Twilight” Dixon. Mark has appeared in all previous books as an ex-SEAL, current badass working at Cole Security, and he is absolutely brilliant! Totally inappropriate and so, so funny, he is a total smartass, but has a huge heart and cares deeply for his friends and family.

Mark met Charlie on a mission in Afghanistan. Charlie was the undercover CIA agent who assisted Mark and the boys in rescuing a member of their team, and he was instantly attracted to her. Beautiful, brave and just as badass as he is, she showed no interest in him, but she still completely rocked his world.

We slink through the dirty hallway and come face to face with another guard.
I don’t have a moment to take the sight. Charlie doesn’t hesitate. No more than a breath passes before she raises the nine and shoots him in the head.
I’m in love. It’s official. I’m going to blow my fucking load right here.
This woman is going to be mine.

A year later and the Cole Security boys are closing on the person they suspect of targeting them and sabotaging their missions, and Mark has just the person in mind to help them with their investigation.

Charlie’s whole life is a secret. Only those closest to her know what does for a living, and she has learned to keep everything about herself private and is untrusting of those who aren’t in her (small) inner circle. Charlie has been working on a longstanding investigation that she is personally connected to, and is devastated when she’s pulled off the case. But then Mark comes along, claiming a link to her investigation and offering to work with her in order for both of them to get what they want. And here comes the fun times!!!

OMG, I love these two together! The chemistry between them is evident from the very beginning, and the banter and smutty flirting flies from the very start. They both want each other, but Charlie’s inability to trust and her determination to remain focussed on her investigation keeps her closed off. But as hard as she tries to push Mark away, he fights back ever harder, and the battle between them was epic! I laughed so hard at their back and forth.

“You know you can’t resist me.”
“Is that so?”
“I rev your engine, baby. I speak your language. I’m your weapon of choice.”
“Oh, Jesus. You need a shrink.”

Mark is determined to have her, and his persistent flirting and not-so-innocent touches push the UST to epic levels before Charlie finally caves in, and it’s all kinds of awesome.

“Take it, Mark.”
“There’s no going back, Charlie. Be warned, I’m going to fuck you so hard you’ll never think of another man. I’m going to take everything and you’re going to give it to me.”
“What makes you think I’m not taking something?”
“Oh, I don’t doubt you’re taking something.” He rises up on his knees and unbuckles his belt. I watch as he unbuttons his pants with a gleam in his eyes … “You’re going to take it all. Every inch of you will be filled. I’m going to ruin you, princess.”

The sexy time is super-steamy and intense, and their emotional connection deepens the longer they are together, but still with that playfulness that I love about these two.

“Feel free to tell me how much you love my ginormous dick anytime...”

It’s a great fall from ‘just sex’ to something more. It’s natural and well-paced, and I could feel it right along with them. And who knew Mark could bring the swoon?! The perfect blend of romantic, sweet, sexy, and funny as all hell, I loved him as a romantic hero

“Love me, Mark. Love me for tonight”...
“I’ll love you for much longer than that.”

And running alongside the romantic storyline is their ongoing investigation. The suspense is woven nicely into the love story (which is definitely the focus) and it all builds towards a fantastically exciting ending which is action packed and had me glued to my kindle. And, of course, it’s gorgeously romantic as Mark and Charlie literally fight to claim their HEA.

“You barrelled your way into my world and forced me to love you against my will.”
… “Don’t think this wasn’t hard for me, baby. Don’t think you weren’t the only one who didn’t want to love. Because you aren’t. I knew the risks, but you’re worth the reward” … “I’ll fight to the end of the earth for you.”

I really like how this whole series has been put together. Individual stories that all link together with an overarching storyline. It’s been really well done. And while I wasn’t a huge fan of the first two books in the series (Beloved and BeholdenThe Beloved Duet), Consolation and Conviction rocked my world, and this one was just as good. It has a very different feel to it than the first books, with Mark and Charlie having a unique, and highly entertaining dynamic, and though it finishes off the series, it could still be read as a standalone – although with the characters of the previous books playing a big part in the story, and having their own story progression, I think it would be more enjoyable having read the previous books first.

This was such a great read! I was hooked from start to finish and loved the action, the suspense and the feisty, chemistry-filled romance between these two fantastic characters.

What I love about Corinne Michaels' writing is her ability to capture me with her likable and relatable characters and her thrilling storytelling. Reading Defenseless was no exception and knowing her characters from her previous books only made me enjoy it even more. I was very much entertained. There's so much personality and love in Mark and Charlie. Also let's not forget the others. Jackson, Catherine, Liam and Natalie too. It was so great to be back with these people.

Mark and Charlie was so much fun. Their bantering was sweet and I could easily feel the sexual tension. They have a lot in common when it comes to their occupation but emotionally they're totally opposite. Mark is very open whereas Charlie rarely lets anyone inside. I was very intrigued by that and couldn't wait for Mark to break down Charlie's walls.
Their relationship was like fireworks. Beautiful, addictive and dangerous at the same time. They definitely had no problem showing how much they wanted one another. It was smoldering and insanely hot.

What made me want to read Defenseless was the characters. They made not only this book work, but also the four previously. I felt like I was part of a huge family and that's all because of Corrine Michaels. She knows her characters and I certainly hope this isn't the last I've heard of them.

Move over Muffin, Twilight has officially taken your place as one of my all-time favorite male characters!

I was so excited when I found out we were going to get Mark's book. I loved him as the friend of the guys in Corinne's Salvation series, but nothing could have prepared me for how much I LOVED Mark in Defenseless. He's hot, arrogant yet sweet and has such a sense of humor. I laughed out loud several times at the outrageous things that came out of his mouth. Mark meets Charlie, a badass heroine who works for the CIA. She's strong, powerful and highly skilled. Charlie and Mark are both used to being in charge and they found themselves constantly going to battle with each other for control in every situation. Their chemistry was insane and explosive. The banter was fantastic. The sex was off the charts hot!!

We also get to catch up with Jackson & Catherine, and Liam & Natalie, and it was great to see them woven into this story as well. Defenseless had an element of suspense that I enjoyed reading. It was an added bonus to the story and I couldn't read it fast enough. This book can easily be read as a standalone, but if you haven't read the other books in this series you're really missing out. I can't wait to see what Corinne Michaels writes next!
