Six Months. That was all it was, just a short few months of being the fake wife of some pretentious business man and I would have enough money to escape from the misery that has been my life for five years and start fresh somewhere else. Just six months.
Or so I thought…
The moment I discovered the identity of the man who had hired me, the man who was responsible for the hell that I was living in, I knew that this contract wasn’t going to be so easy. And apparently he hated me as much as I hated him.
Six months? I wasn’t even sure I was going to survive the weekend.
Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. Aisling created characters I cared for, I held my breath for, and cried for. I am excited to start her other books of the Trivium Universe.
This was the prequel I needed after finishing the Regents of Covenant House Series recently by this amazing author. Although this story was made in between the writing of that series, I feel like reading it after those was the way to go! As I dived back into the Trivium universe and finally got a look into Sabastian and Lily's relationship that I had gotten tiny pieces of through the Regents series, I was heavily entertained and put through it emotionally alongside our beautiful FMC. This story followed in true Trivium intensity, with its secretive plotline and heavy dark subject matter. But like always, you get a lot of satisfaction alongside your torment.
I already knew the outcome for these two characters from the other books they popped up in, but reading their beginning was so exciting. Sabastian is such a strong and dominating force when he shows up for Cade in the Regents books. He carries quite the reputation, and his skills are those of very specific natures. In this book, you hear how that started and how he ended up as such a power player within the Trivium and why he deals with some of their elite the way he does. He is not a man to be messed with, and his abilities were only just beginning in this book. Where they reach over time is heavily impressive, and he only becomes more intense with what he involves himself in, which is why his character is called in to assist in future books. It was heavily satisfying. But with Lily, we really didn't learn much in the other books. We had small ideas shared by Sabastian due to the situations Cadance goes through and have a general idea of the darkness she would face within the pages of her own book, but reading them was a totally different impact.
Like most of the young women who deal with the Trivium and it's dark and political elite society tactics that it carries, Lily is truly in a bind as she's signed away her existence to be used and handed out to its members under contractual agreements. The contract stipulations she has to abide by are less than luxurious in many ways. Unless you are the type of woman who wants to be used for her body by men you don't love in exchange for galas and champagne in high-end dresses dripping in jewels. Unfortunately, Lily is not the type, and she is desperate to get out of the Registry she is now owned by. With endless debts climbing and involved in a situation that seems impossible to get out of, she has one more chance to fulfill a contract through the Registry and finally fix the situation she was so unfairly put in. Six months of devotion to an unknown buyer, and she's free to escape into a future of her own choosing. Seems simple enough...
Until Sabastian enters the chat, of course. Still plotting his revenge on the young woman who He thinks stole his life and legacy after accusations from five years ago that came up during his attempts at claiming her the first time. Well, this time, he won't fail, and their will be contracts in place to see to that. Lily and Sabastian's history is something that unfolds throughout this book. With a hatred that runs deep for the other between them both, this will not be a simple marriage of convenience, and debts will heavily be paid. In flesh. Sabastian is out for the throat, and poor Lily is stuck within the stipulations of a legal agreement that she must follow, or her future will never be one of freedom. When she realizes who she will be spending the next six months with, she truly feels the weight of both her past, present, and future that may now be forever out of reach.
This story is spicy and ruthless and raw. Sabastian is not a man of softness, but his edges seem to be heavily smoothed by the force that is Lily. These two go head to head more than once as power dynamics play out, gauntlets are set, threats are made, and debts are called due. He owns her, and there is nothing she can do about it. Although, maybe there is a way out.... But definitely not before he gets his hands on his new wife. He takes that's title and ownership very seriously. This man's possession is pure obsession fueled by vengeance and heavy desires for our FMC that he didn't get to make good on the first time they crossed paths.
Like always, evil powers and dark secrets are bubbling to the surface of our story in between toe curling spice scenes and building unwanted connections of our main characters. Is the past really how we thought? Are the ones we've been blaming really the ones we should be? Past friendships and new forces come into play as Sabastian tries to secure his legacy, and Lily tries to scramble for her freedom, but these two aren't the only ones making moves on the game board. This book takes a dramatically dark turn when Lily is taken and the darkest of the Trivium underworld gets involved. Secrets and hidden agendas take the wheel as contracts start falling apart and the safety of Lily heavily hangs in the balance. Sabastian must see the truth before he can ever take full domination over her and his own future.
The dark subject matter that Lily faces is not for the faint of heart. In true Trivium universe fashion, there are situations that are being navigated of the most vile and evil nature's. We hear very mildly what Lily went through in the Regents books, but we get a front row seat into the torment she suffered in these pages. It is stomach turning at times, and this girl has to really fight.
Overall, this isn't a heavy spice book, but there are several heavy and explicit scenes between our MCs that show how deep the power of ownership through intimacy and desires can be. You won't be left unsatisfied.
I enjoyed this book immensely. It was such a satisfying read after finishing the Regents series, and I was so thrilled to learn the full story between these two characters who carried such dominating strength and power on page of the other stories. Seeing them interact and fight it out was entertaining, spicy, aggressive, and I was so pleased with our outcome!
1st off- once again! There are ZERO trigger warnings listed in any of the 5 books in this series . The link to the authors website listed is not available- so why bother listing a dead freaking website link??
If I had known that I was going to be reading forced exhibitionism- THREE TIMES- I would've skipped the book. By forced I mean the FMC is forced to have foreplay & sex Infront of a virtual stranger she just met 3 minutes before.
Then it's in the back of the car as the driver listens & can look if he wants. Mmc ignores the pleas of the FMC each time. This was worse because he already knew at this point she was innocent of the betrayal from 5 years ago. He still treats her like property though. Telling her to get used to it because he likes being watched.
Then later on she's forced to attend an orgy with the MMC, who is totally fine with exhibitionism, of course doesnt matter if the FMC is nt though. The MMC forces her there & pretty much threatens her with the contract being voided & forcing her to a sex club where she'll be raped by random men IF she isnt obedient while at the orgy. (His 2nd threatens to do this btw).
All this orgy stuff is done to the reasoning to "protect you" trope, yes, I must degrade & humiliate you infront of everyone to protect you from danger. I rolled my eyes so hard I could see Saturn.
This was ludicrous, the was no real reason for this behavior, there was a need to be present at this orgy that obviously wasn't "mandatory", no, it was gratuitous and unsexy..there was legit no need to force her there at all.
Again the Mmc threatens her & is well aware that she'll hate him come tomorrow but it'll be "worth it" and he of course threatens that she "must comply" . Which leads to him making her get on her knees and suck him off, she's forced to do this & derives zero plessure from the act. She's actually crying.
The mmc in his own ignorance doesnt at first notice a rich rapist jerk, is fingering his wife at the time? This supposedly possessive, obsessive MMC that fights & shuts down sex traffic rings doesnt notice the old guy at first? Doesn't even kill him on site. What was even the point? Are you kidding me right now?
Way to ruin a side character like Sebatian Lynch. He was anything but a hero and good guy.
Then she gets kidnapped right after- the MMC who legit just pulled a rapist guys fingers out of her vjay, humiliated her by making her get on her knees (which also hurt her knees) just leaves here there, unattended while he deals with old rapey dude? Of course she's kidnapped. So all this public humiliation "for her protection" was pointless since he managed to not protect her TWICE!.
Author is constantly changing rules of these Covenant contracts for the FMCS in this series, it's impossible to keep track. It's fluid every time some guy wa ts to fuck over the FMC, but she's hopefuless to find a loophole everytime. Ridiculous. You mean to say that everyone is just ok with lifetime contracts where the FMCS are properly of men forever?
And I'm supposed to root for the so called mmc heroes that just go along with it? Like James Killingham? Sebastian? Logan, Cole & Ryder? This is the secret society they all want in on??
The rescue of the raping of the FMC, my man. You guys find her mid rape, she's naked, in shock & bleeding on the floor & it takes exactly 2 freaking pages before someone thinks to cover her with their jacket??!
Men in tactical gear are walking through talking to the MMC, standing over the naked fmc! The mmc couldn't be bothered since he was to busy beating the unconscious rapist first?!
Fmc had to turn & curl up on her side to preserve modesty. The freaking driver FINALLY gives her his jacket.. im serious- this took 2 freaking pages !
"You gave me my life back. I'm even going back to school."... No, hon. He didnt. Everything he helped with happened indirectly. He didnt do a thing directly to help you, until the end where he deleted the contract. All of a sudden he's like she belongs to herself!
At least in the series books , the rape thing was done well. Logan didnt play with it when he found Cade, immediately covered her & carried her out etc
Sebastian leaves Lily, no therapist scheduled for her either (lazy writing, authors will commit to a rape storyline but not to the aftercare afterwards, like much needed therapy)
"as his thumb circled my clit and his finger pumped in and out with practiced precision". Unless the MMC has a mechanical thumb that can spin on it's own this is psychically impossible & I wish authors would stop writing this. I think i read this in nearly every other book that I read (I read 1100 books in 2025 alone). I cringe every time.
Ass, such a waste. Hated the MMC.
Can't believe this is tge same author who wrote the Regents of Covenant House Series
Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐: This story started off slow but really picked up and answered a lot of questions that will push us into the second book. The dark themes in the story were there and the character’s reactions showed very well. There were some errors and repetition but they didn’t stop me from wanting to get to the end of the story.
Introduction: This is my book review of Vow to Ruin by Aisling Elizabeth. This is my first time reading a book by Elizabeth and I may read the second because I am curious about what will happen between Lily and Sebastian.
Summary: Lily Appleby is on her way to perform her duties for a contract that will change her life and relieve her debts from the Trivium. The Trivium resembled the Free Masons secret organization that isn’t a secret as they run all the darkest corners of the world. They deal in shady behavior and Lily is caught in the middle of this as she is pushed to become Sebastian’s wife so he can take over a seat in the Trivium and rid his family of their debts.
Lily and Sebastian’s history goes beyond the Trivium when they were at university together. The two dated and a series of unfortunate allegations and creepy behavior split them apart. To see that Sebastian is her “husband” over a decade later is a really good premise for the story although Sebastian uses his ownership of her to punish her for what happened when they were at university - “Sebastian Lynch, entitled prick that he was, decided that my rejection of his advances was grounds for retaliation. My scholarship was revoked on fake accusations of cheating, causing my reputation to be in tatters.”
Though they both have vendettas against each other, Lily can’t deny how her body responds to Sebastian - “A part of me, the part I tried desperately to silence, responded to his dominance, craved the intensity of his possession even as I feared it.”
Character Analysis: Lily is blond, blue-eyed and property of the Trivium. She’s an orphan with no information about her lineage until the very end of the story. She’s assertive and I hope that we see more of this in the second book among intimidating men.
Sebastian is a businessman with a side job of helping people who have been tra$$icked or sold to nefarious people/organizations. He’s known as someone that has taken lives, but we find out that he’s done this to help others. He has a vendetta against the Trivium and Lily - “I would work with the devil himself if it meant that I would secure what belonged to me.”
Conflict: There’s a lot of conflicts and they are: Sebastian and Lily realizing the truth about each other, Lily being used by other parties and kidnapped/assaulted, Sebastian dealing with the investigation he headed against one of the Trivium members and how it backfires on him and Lily.
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️: The spice started immediately between Lily and Sebastian though it was coerced. The dark themes got in the way of a budding romance as well as the miscommunication trope.
Conclusion: Vow to Ruin by Aisling Elizabeth is a story with dark themes that exposes an organization of powerful nefarious men who are pulling the strings in society.
This is the premise for a lot of dark romances although there is no romance between Lily and Sebastian until the end of the story when they both find out the truth about each other.
There’s some repetition and the story reads slow until the kidnapping and everything picks up. Also there is some writing that is a little confusing.
Warning to the Readers: Tra$$icking, uanliving, assault, and grape
Recommendation: I do recommend that you read Vow to Ruin.

"Screw the contract," I snarled "Oh, the only thing you will be screwing for the next six months will be me, sweetheart,"
First up as always read the triggers there are definitely some triggering subjects.
Once again Aislings writing as hooked me from the get go. The way she creates a world you can fully be immersed in is thrilling. Being able to build relationships with fictional characters through reading alone is hard but she does it so well. I cannot wait to explore this over the Regents of Covenant House series. I love a plot twist and this book had a few surprises along the way.
I went from hating characters to genuinely rooting for them. From liking characters to hating them. NO ONE is safe when Aisling is writing. Forget your theories as they will be blown up and left to disintegrate.
Being thrown into a 6 month marriage contract isn't the least of your problems when you owe the Trivium more money than you will ever have. But this contact could be your last when they offer you a way out, enough money to pay them back and escape the hell that is your life.
My biggest complaint with this book is the same I have with Haunting Adeline. You can’t have a main character whose life’s work is dismantling sex trafficking and rescuing woman repeatedly coerce a woman into sex. It makes no sense.
Not to mention, I just do not believe the relationship between Sebastian and Lily. If I was her, when I was freed from the contract I would have run to the hills and never looked back. He never did anything to earn her trust or love.
There’s also quite a few typos and mistakes which took me out of the book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First of all, a warning! check your triggers as it gets dark.
This is a re-write with so much more content. Aisling wasn't afraid to release her true self when writing this book. We have enemies to lovers, fake marriage, kidnapping as well as 🍇 (not with the mmc, he is more dub-con). Sebastian likes to toe the line and push boundaries, but our lily while boundaries is very much into how he makes her feel.
I really enjoyed this read but make sure you check the triggers because there is some very dark parts to this. The story was well written with some great spice. Lily is a bit feisty and Sebastian is a man you love to hate. She is doesn’t want the chemistry between them and he wants to possess her. I would recommend this for anyone who l likes enemies to lovers, spice with a bit of pain, and a good twist in the plot.
I started this book and within 2 days I finished it. This story had me captured and drawn into the world of Lily and the Main male character don't want to do any spoilers but I was rooting for them, the spice is next level , please read trigger warnings but this book was 10/10 for me. Enemies to lovers check Possession check Dark romance check
Story line 10/10 Characters 10/10 Ending give me more /10
It’s a bit of a slow burn, but when it starts cracking, good lord does it take you in a chokehold!!!! The storyline is great and leaves you wanting more!!! You start out really disliking Sebastian, but are rooting for him to come out on top once you see his true character!!! Lily is a victim through and through at the beginning!!! It is great fun as she finds her strength, especially in the trauma she has sustained!!! Definitely read it!! You won’t be disappointed!!
This was such a fun ride! I enjoyed the characters and looking forward to reading more about them in future books. The reason it’s 4 star instead of 5 star is because I figured out the villain the moment they appeared in the book. But the story was great and hooked me right away!
Once I started this book, I seriously couldn't put it down. The book has really good story line, characters, plot twist, and really good spice. Make sure to read the trigger warnings before you start reading. I highly recommend this book!
If you’re looking for a morally grey character who edges closer to the dark than the light, then look no further than Sebastian Lynch.
After locking Lily in a 6 month contract to act as his wife, courtesy of The Registry, Sebastian feels this his revenge plot against her is finally becoming reality. But when you work with a secret society where women are passed around like possessions, you’re always guaranteed to meet someone even more cruel than the cruelest of people.
This story is pretty intense (definitely check out the triggers) because just when you think it’s all wrapped up, the drama keeps on coming.
TL;DR ✨MF ✨Dark romance ✨Enemies to lovers ✨First person dual POV ✨🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Lilly - Has discovered the identity of the man who hired her. A contract was made for her to be his wife. She thought her new life would be hell, but can her new husband change her mind?
Sebastian - Signed a contract for his new wife, it was only supposed to be for six months, in those six months will he fall for his pretend wife?
This is a beautifully written slow burn dark novel, one where we see a morally grey MMC, who we see fall for his fake wife.
There is alot of emotion with this read, there is mention of r**e, k!dnapping, fake marriage with enemies to lovers trope!
This is the first novel of this authors I have read and I can honestly say it will not be the last . It had me hooked from the start!
I can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next!
I absolutely loved this book, I could not put it down and read it within days I am officially obsessed with her and can not wait to read the rest. Sebastian is my current favourite book boyfriend. The Steamy scenes are amazing and the story line is impressive and kept me fully engaged. 1000% would recommend. Everyone needs to read this.
