Eye-Opening
Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World by Brenda McDaniel is an eye-opening narrative of the power of demons and the danger people face when they have been invaded by demonic forces. The book is a short read. You will want to finish it in one sitting. However, despite its brevity, the message of the book is powerful.

The story centers on a couple, Linda and Ricky, and the events that unfold after the death of Linda’s parents. Strange spirits began to manifest. Eventually, Linda, Ricky, and other Christians form a group to battle these evil spirits.

The book reminds us that there is an invisible war going on. The war is between good and evil. The current anti-Christian America is the perfect place for demons to recruit surrogates that can easily troll for hapless victims. The author reminds her readers of these truths, but also reminds us that the power of Jesus Christ conquers all demons.

I recommend Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World to anyone who would like to learn the truth about the spirit world, especially those who need to be aware of what can happen when demons invade your life.

Just Okay for Me

An okay book for its content. I know things like this can happen but I don’t know if this book is a good proof of demonic possession. It has a lot of mistakes in punctuation but I know the author probably meant well. I’m not sure. Anyone interested will have to read and decide for yourself. It was just okay for me.

A Great Read for Christians, Probably.

The author, Brenda McDaniel, writes, “The moral of this story is to not believe just in things you can see and feel. For there is more to this world, than just eyes that can see or ears that can hear!! There is a constant battle and war going on, between the Lord’s Angels and the devil’s demons. The demons are trying to possess and control as many people as possible, before the Lord and Savior comes back. As HE holds the keys to the great pit called HELL.”

I suppose that’s the overarching message.

I’m really glad that this book is complete fiction because if not, what they do to this poor child is not just cruel but criminal: “Father Robert, told them, “ that Marietta, was still asleep in her room and they would have help to subdue her, along with the parents helping too, to tie her in a chair, this time with strong chains. As this was the only way, of having a possessed person listen to prayers.”

The author goes on to describe what they do to this girl, including the priest dumping holy water all over her and on a cross that they press into her forehead. She continues, “The group, quickly encircled her and put part of the chains around her body and legs, to keep her from kicking or hitting at them, then they bought the chair over, sat her down and chained her to that, too.”

This book reads like a fever dream. For example, in Chapter Two (page 22) the author describes a boy who wants to join the army so that he can kill people and writes, “So the boy, whose name was Neil Thompson went to the barn and picked up an axe and he went inside the cabin, to kill both his parents! He said, ” he never realized what he was doing, until a family member came to visit and knocked on the door before Neil had a chance to kill his parents! The visitor was an uncle, who was a Baptist preacher his name was Tommy Thompson, he saw Neil with the axe in hand and he looked as if in a daze! He was looking at his uncle with red, evil eyes! Reverend Thompson, had a Bible in his hands and a big, steel cross on a chain around his neck. His uncle fell on his knees and started praying to the Lord! “Please”, he said, “Lord, deliver Neil from this demonic possession…”

Continuing further from the same story, “After that day, he left to join the Army and never came home or to the cabin again, until now to warn the young couple, about the cabin. He said,” that it harbored a demonic spirit and it needed, to be removed by a priest or preacher!”

This modern day “exorcism” doesn’t work so the uncle magically knows to call Linda to ask for her and her prayer group to come to Canada to help with the exorcism of twin brothers who are now living in the same cabin that his nephew did as a child.

Another fever dream example comes from Chapter Three when the prayer group is in Germany and they’re in a house with two more siblings possessed, “Two policemen in the group, (John, Jacob), first use karate to kick the knifes out of the children’s hands . They put the children in two chairs and put chains around both to secure them.”

Also, it sounds like Linda is suffering from schizophrenia, which makes sense because her father had it too. Especially when the book mentions over and over again that she can see demons and people who are possessed (page 25). And her daughter, Sarah, seems to be afflicted with it too.

Further, this book is riddled with grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes, with way too many repeating phrases, (e.g., a “big steel cross on a chain around the neck” of someone in the story, is mentioned at least 11 times in a book that’s less than 30 pages) peppered throughout.
Listen, I’m a dyed-in-the-wool agnostic so perhaps I’m not the best person to review this book but I feel I was grossly misinformed about the subject matter of the book (based on the description provided by the author) prior to being asked to review it so I’m giving it 3 (generous) stars.

Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World is an unusual book. It sits somewhere between spiritual fiction, religious reflection, and cosmic tale. Told in third person but reading like a personal testimony, it blends visions of the afterlife with elements of divine intervention and human redemption. It carries a strong spiritual message, and despite some of its darker moments, it ultimately aims to reassure rather than frighten.

That said, the tone of the book leans heavier than expected for its listed audience. Marketed toward ages ten to eighteen, the themes feel more suited to a slightly older or more spiritually mature reader. There are moments of death, judgment, and cosmic reckoning that, while softened by the eventual happy endings, may land with more weight than younger readers are prepared for.

The structure itself is another area that stands out. Rather than a continuous story, the book reads more like a collection of spiritual journal entries or vignettes. There is an overarching rhythm, but not a traditional narrative arc. That is not a flaw in itself, but it may surprise readers expecting a linear, chapter-by-chapter story. The episodic style reflects the nature of visions or revelations more than it does conventional storytelling.

In terms of prose, the book could benefit from some streamlining. At times the language repeats or wanders, and a firmer editorial hand might have helped sharpen the delivery of its themes. Still, the sincerity in the writing is hard to miss. It speaks with conviction, and that gives the story its weight.

Interestingly, there is a faint echo of H. P. Lovecraft in the way the cosmic and spiritual planes are described as vast, overwhelming, beyond comprehension. But where Lovecraft left his readers adrift in a cold and uncaring universe, McDaniel presents a God who sees and acts. Here, the divine is not a terror but a comfort. The unseen world is strange, yes, but it is also full of light and mercy.

For a book that walks the line between testimony and fiction, it manages to hold its shape well enough. It does not pretend to be neutral. It is a story written with a message. And while it may not be for every reader, particularly those looking for polished literary fiction or detailed world-building, it offers a sincere and unique take on the spirit world.

For me, this landed at a 3.5 rounded to 4. It is a thoughtful, if uneven, read. One that asks big questions and gives answers shaped by faith and hope rather than fear.

So, anyone with any sense can tell from the sample alone that this is an incompetent mess. The ebook was either typeset by a blind person or someone who might as well be blind. The writing is rife with errors. You'd be hard pressed to find an error that isn't in this book. You'll find grammatical errors, punctuation errors, formatting errors, and so on. But some may argue that “unpolished” prose (I'd call it straight-up bad) can hide a good story. So, what's this thing about?

The description offers us no help. According to it, the book is about certain real-world themes like faith and spirituality. But this isn't a nonfiction work. No, it's narrative. At least, it tries to be. To reference the old cliche, the entirety of this book is “told” rather than “shown.” There aren't really scenes, but summarizations of scenes packed together in gargantuan paragraphs.

“Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World” follows the formation and activities of a prayer group that helps perform exorcisms. They do so several times. In between each exorcism, the text gives exposition about each character's personal lives. Rinse and repeat until the book abruptly ends. Overall, the story is bland, one-dimensional, unsatisfying, and worst of all, boring. You probably already knew not to bother with this one, so take this as confirmation.

All that said, I'm adding one extra star for the title, which is a pretty neat sequence of words. I just wish it labeled a better book.

This book is more than a story—it's a spiritual awakening wrapped in pages. From the very first chapter, it invites you into a world where grief and grace walk hand in hand, and where love and faith become the compass through life’s darkest valleys. It doesn’t shy away from loss; instead, it honors it, showing how pain can be a portal to deeper understanding and spiritual growth.

What struck me most was the way the author opens a window into the unseen. The spiritual realm isn’t treated as metaphor or mystery—it’s real, vivid, and active. Through powerful storytelling, we’re reminded that the battle between good and evil isn’t just folklore or theology—it’s happening all around us, often in ways our physical senses can’t detect. The message is clear: don’t limit your belief to what you can touch or see. There’s more. Much more.

This book is for anyone who’s ever asked, “Is there more to life than this?” It’s for the seeker, the wounded, the hopeful. It doesn’t preach—it reveals. And in doing so, it leaves you with a renewed sense of purpose, a deeper faith, and a heart stirred by the possibility that the spiritual world is not only real, but closer than we think.

If you’re ready to see with your soul and feel with your spirit, this book will meet you there.

'Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World' is a short novelette that is a quick read. It is heavily Christian-based, exploring the idea that belief should extend beyond what can be seen and felt, and that most of us are unaware of the constant battle between good and evil. The story centres around a married couple, Linda and Ricky, who are deeply in love and live in a small town. After the loss of her parents, Linda begins to have supernatural, 'God-given' experiences. Eventually, their daughter Sarah develops the same powers as her mother. To me, this narrative feels more like a piece of nonfiction than fiction, as it is mostly 'tell, don't show' (the reverse of 'Show, don't tell' that I prefer in my reading). Still, it is an interesting story of demon possessions and warriors fighting for the Lord, so if you like this kind of thing or enjoy young adult tales of good vs. evil and Angels vs. Demons, this may be something you'd enjoy. 2.5 score rounded up to 3. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

When Grief Opens the Door to the Unseen

Brenda E. McDaniel who appears to be a practicing Christian presents Death’s Open Portal to the Spirit World as a brief yet imaginative exploration of spirituality through the experiences of Linda Moore and her family. After the death of Linda’s parents, the family begins encountering supernatural manifestations, revealing a hidden world beyond ordinary perception.
The book emphasizes the ongoing spiritual battle between good and evil and delivers a powerful message: just because we cannot see something with our physical eyes does not mean it does not exist. It also reinforces the importance of faith in God as a source of protection in times of fear and uncertainty.
Overall, this is a thoughtful and engaging book for readers who embrace Christian spirituality and beliefs, especially those interested in stories centered on faith, the afterlife, and the unseen forces at work in the world.

"Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World" is an incredibly interesting fictional dive into the spiritual realm. McDaniel crafts a narrative that, while presenting spiritual beings in a more visible way than we typically experience, serves as a powerful reminder of the constant, unseen battle between good and evil.

While it is very rare for spiritual entities to manifest themselves so overtly in real life, this book truly excelled at putting me in a mindset to recognize their subtle yet pervasive presence everywhere. It highlights that there's far more to our world than what our physical senses can perceive. If you're looking for a compelling story that encourages spiritual awareness and reflects on themes of loss, hope, love, and faith, this is a worthwhile read. It definitely sparked some deep contemplation!

A Thoughtful Read.

A short story about a young woman who begins to see spirits after her mother's death. Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World is narrated through her eyes. Following her father's death, she believed the death of her parents had opened a portal into the spirit world, enabling her to see spirits, angels, and demons. When she witnessed demons in everyday life, she consulted the Bible for guidance, deciding that exorcism was her calling. For this purpose, she formed a prayer group with the help of others. The book illustrates their successes, sending a powerful message about the power of prayer.

I would have liked to see more structure, as it read more like a narration of events than an actual story. That said, it is a thoughtful read with a powerful message.

My rating 3.5 rounded to 4.

Author Brenda E. McDaniel writes about Linda Moore and her husband Ricky. Linda began to see into the spirit world shortly after the passing of her mother. Linda started seeing more and more into the spiritual world, especially seeing the demonic control being exerted over people around her. Linda and her husband, Ricky, started a "Prayer Group" which the ran for many years, where they were able to see many people totally set free and restored. If you are not sure that there is a spirit realm, this book will help open up your eyes to the reality of the spirit world. This book goes into detail of the various encounters Linda had with the spiritual world, and the victory she had through prayer.

Thought-Provoking

This book was thought-provoking, and I appreciate the author's effort to tackle complex spiritual issues. While it may not have resonated with me personally, I can see how others might find value in its unique perspective.

I was reminded from Ephesians 6:12-13, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm."

Perhaps with some refinement in writing style, this book could reach an even wider audience. Overall, I wish the author continued success in their writing endeavors.

This was an interesting novel. The author describes the struggle between Christians and demons who possess unknowing victims every day, in many different situations. The main character, Linda, is a devout Christian who finds herself able to see demons, who she identifies via their glowing red eyes. Later, her daughter Sarah also discovers that she has the same ability. They travel around the United States, Mexico, Germany, and Canada, performing exorcisms with other Christians. The “Prayer Warriors” fight demons that possess people by praying for them. It was a heavily religious and faith-based story, so if you aren’t as devout as the characters, it will likely seem rather extreme. But it was still an interesting account of Linda and Ricky’s beliefs and activities.

There are books that ask us to suspend disbelief, and there are books that suggest disbelief itself may be a fragile shield. This one does the latter. Through Linda, Ricky, and their daughter Sarah, the story traces how grief opens doors to unseen encounters—some comforting, some terrifying. Instead of dwelling on spectacle, the book underscores how faith, family, and persistence can steady people when explanations falter. Readers who appreciate narratives about resilience in the face of the unexplainable may find resonance here, while those looking for realism alone may be left unsettled but still reflective.

This is a book that may be of interest to those who believe in demons and exorcism as per The Exorcist, the battle of God and the Devil in real life. It deals with the opening of a portal allowing the protagonists--a couple named Ricky and Linda--who can seen demons in peoples eyes and, with their posse of prayers and clergymen go around the world ridding possessed people of demons. This happens over and over in the book. Although it was not exactly clear whether this was meant to be a true account or fiction, and there are numerous editing errors throughout, this may be just the book for those interested in spirits, demons, and exorcisms.

I appreciate what this author wrote for us; “The moral of this story, is to not believe just in things you can see and feel, for there is more to this world than just eyes that can see, or ears that can hear.” In this case, they were the “ Prayer Warriors”, who took cases of demon possession when priests etc were not able to help alone. They were successful, according to this author, because they were a large group, and were more intense and powerful through their praying. It’s good to know these good-hearted faith driven warriors travel all over the world to exorcise utmost evil.

If you believe the Bible, angels and demons are real and active in the world. I've often wondered about the relationship between mental illness and demons. This book is a story about this and the power of prayer to overcome. A scary look inside the world of this viewpoint. What is real and imagined? The truth is only the power of Jesus Christ can overcome demons and it is only by believing in Him that people find freedom.

Out of curiosity and my love for the supernatural/spiritual I picked up Death's Open Portal to the Spirit World. I’m glad I did. The book has a very personal and open feel to it, and Brenda E. McDaniel shares her experiences in a way that’s easy to follow. It gave me more to think and question, regarding life, death, and the spiritual side of things. Whether you fully agree with everything or not, it’s an interesting and heartfelt read.

Linda and Ricky, a married couple who after experiencing supernatural occurrences following the death of Linda’s parents, establish a prayer group to combat evil and help others heal from demonic possession. Blending spiritual fiction with religious themes, the story offers reassurance about the power of faith against darkness. Although it is targeted at young adults, its serious subject matter may resonate more with older readers.

The author opens the door to the unseen spiritual realm and helps you understand the ongoing battle between good and evil in a way that feels both meaningful and thought-provoking. Even though this book is only 34 pages long, I had a hard time getting through it because the writing was repetitive and in need of a professional proofreader. Therefore, I will not comment on the content.

I received this book free from the author, publisher, or other source. My only obligation is to provide a fair and honest review.

Could be better!

I think I'm been quite generous with 3 stars as this book needs a lot of work done especially in the editing area. I read a lot regarding the spirit world but each story seemed the same to me which I was expecting some variety. Also is this book fictional or factual? Not sure unless I'm missing something.

This is a story about a husband and wife who, through loss, had miraculous encounters with others, both good and evil. It explains how they are called to heal others. The storyline was difficult to follow due to punctuation and grammatical issues. Suggest having the story professionally edited to help it shine.

This is a short Christian based story about the fight of good against evil. The story centres around a couple using the power of prayer to defeat demon's possessing others. They create a prayer group with other like minded individuals and go where they are called to rid the world of evil created by demonic possession.

The overall story is very short. It doesn't grip you in the way that I believe it should & I found myself losing focus. The writing itself is fairly basic although it's cohesively put together. It feels like something my 15 year old would write. It lacks character depth. Overall it's not terrible but nothing here keeps me hooked. Also the front cover looks like it was done on Microsoft Word.

This story started off well but kind of went sideways with the grammatical errors. It was quite difficult to get into the meat of the story which could really blossom into something after a few more revisions.
