Kohta Hirano (平野 耕太 Hirano Kōta) is a Japanese mangaka most famous for his manga Hellsing. Starting his career first as a mangaka's assistant (self-described as "horrible" and "lazy" in said assistant position), and later an H manga artist, he went on to enjoy somewhat limited success with other relatively unknown manga titles such as Angel Dust, Coyote, Gun Mania and Hi-Tension. His first major success came with his manga series Hellsing, which got its start and was subsequently serialized in a monthly manga magazine, Young King OURs, towards the latter half of 1997.
Had recently watched the anime, it has a unique artistic retelling of the story of so many well known figures in history by the clever use of isekai genre. One of my favorite characters in the story is Joan of arc at first I was a bit offended by the way she was portrayed ( despite of opposing and somewhat hating all of her beliefs I can not be anything but respectfull towards her. She is one of those type of people whose charachter demands respect) but she was given an internal monologue at a certain point which made it all ok. I remember few days ago I was telling my mother how I had seen Joan of arc getting put in an anime and the artistic writing decisions of the creator and when I got to tell her about what Joan was saying I suddenly realized I was crying... so yeah I absolutely loved the anime mostly due to its strong, clever, emotional writing but to be honest didn't quite like the art I think I continue reading the manga at least up untill Joan's story comes to an end.
If you ever wanted to see elves, dwarfs, and an army of 500 gay elite soldiers fight Jesus' dark hordes for the capital of Hitler's empire - Drifters got you covered.
(I'm not yet convinced the Black King is actually Jesus, but we'll see.)
Caught up and now I'm hooked. It took a little time to get into these but it was well worth the wait. The plot is an easy "let's take over the world" setup, but along the way they free just about everyone who's downtrodden.
Don't let this fool you, though, because THIS is our tactical genius hero:
The real hero just wants to take his enemy's heads. He's well adjusted. Seriously legit.
The plot is thickening with elements of politics thrown in alongside the awesome action. Not only is Nobunaga Oda a fearsome leader, but also a cunning politician. Sometimes its very hard to determine if he is the good guy or the bad guy, even though he is on the good side (for now it seems).
