Jennifer Moore is a passionate reader and writer of all things romance due to the need to balance the rest of her world, which includes a perpetually traveling husband and four active sons, who create heaps of laundry that are anything but romantic. Jennifer has a BA in linguistics from the University of Utah and is a Guitar Hero champion. She lives in northern Utah with her family.
I love Jennifer Moore's books. I've read just about every single one of them, but somehow this one was skipped. I've wanted to read this one for quite a while but every time I went to I didn't have access to it and didn't want to spend $10 on an ebook. So I waited, and waited, and waited. Well I'm happy to say that I finally read, well listened to it.
I had a really long car ride a few days ago and needed something to listen to that would help me pass the time. And something that I could listen to with all my daughters in the car, something that would keep their interest as well for the long drive. They weren't quite sure when I started it, but were quickly hooked. Yes, I watch and read and listen to many Regency era movies, and novels and have helped foster a love for them with my children. I love it! So to say that we all enjoyed ourselves while listening to this book for many, many hours would be an understatement.
My daughters oohhhhed and ahhhhhed and held their breath in suspense. Some covered their eyes, some shrieked, some giggled. It was awesome!
Lady Emma was a great character and I love how the author portrayed her as a young girl who was taught to look pretty in a sitting room, at a ball, etc. but she was a young woman in love. She didn't let society dictate what she should do and when the one she loved was in danger, she threw aside everything to go to his aide. A great love story and several great characters. I loved Emma and Sidney and reading about their history. Sidney was a perfect gentleman and I loved watching his character throughout all of the different situations they found themselves in.
Content: Clean. Moments of peril, some talk about the ravages of war, blood, fights, etc but nothing overly graphic.
I listened to an audiobook from Deseret Bookshelf.
I was playing on Goodreads one night and went to look if Jennifer Moore had any upcoming books, I was pleasantly surprised when I found her blog and it showed Lady Emma's Campaign was available! I hopped on over to Amazon and grabbed a copy. This is a companion novel to Becoming Lady Lockwood, but can stand on its own.
Emma has had a hard life, growing up with an abusive father has given her an inner-strength that she doesn't even realize yet. Because of her hard childhood her mother and brother tend to shelter her, as well as the men trying to court her. She is also secretly in love with her brothers best friend, Sidney. When an opportunity arises where she can help rescue Sidney from worn-torn Spain she jumps (or sneaks) at the chance.
I loved the romance in this one. I love stories about girls falling or their brothers friends (or similar). I like that they already have an established relationship and so their transition from friends to...more, is believable. Emma and Sidney are perfect together. I like how they bring out the best in each other and how they respect one another. They treat each other kindly and build each other up. It takes awhile for them to figure things out, but it was a nice journey to be on.
While the romance was great, the setting and subject matter is pretty heavy. War is just a horrible thing and it can be upsetting to read about some of the things that go on in war. The majority of the book is with them on the run and there was never a slow moment. It was definitely a page turner. I appreciated that while the subject was heavy there was no overly detailed violence. There was a good balance of war and hope.
The side characters added a lot to the story, I loved Serena, Jim and Marco. I hope they all get books. :)
Overall, a great read. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good Historical Romance.

Wow! The only thing wrong with this book was it eventually ended. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end...and I was so sad to be done. As with Becoming Lady Lockwood Jennifer Moore has a way of describing her characters and their stories so wonderfully that you become a part of their world....and I didn't want to leave just yet. I adored Sidney in book 1 and I was ecstatic to see that book 2 was His story! I wasn't disappointed in the least! Such a great series!!
What a sweet story! This is a companion novel to Becoming Lady Lockwood but it can stand alone.
Emma had a brief encounter with Sidney under the kissing bough one Christmas and never quite removed him from her heart or her mind. But as a man of the sea, he leaves shortly afterward. When they receive word that he's in trouble, nothing can stop Emma from stowing away on her brother's ship; nothing can stop her from attempting to rescue the man she loves; and nothing can stop her from persevering through unthinkable horrors to find peace and freedom.
Emma is very spunky and full of personality. She doesn't always think things through clearly, which leads to some frightening situations, but she is full of faith and determination. Sidney is brave and resourceful. His sense of humor carries him through the bleakest of times and he's very easy to like.
The story takes a few intense twists, as these two, along with their unlikely companions, journey by foot through enemy territory. I wasn't sure who they should trust and how they would get out of some of their scrapes. I love it when I can immerse myself in a story. I actually felt anxious because of what was going on. There's no way I would be brave enough to travel through a war zone! I was really drawn in by the romantic moments, too. I loved the little words and glances and found myself cheering them on, even in their moments of doubt. Things don't always end the way I expect them to and there were twists in this one that kept me on my toes.
I'm looking forward to the next installment!
Content: Squeaky clean romance; no language or religious elements; moderate violence due to war (torture, death, etc)--nothing graphic.
Jennifer Moore is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her first book, Becoming Lady Lockwood, was fantastic and I knew she was an author I wanted to read again.
We meet Lady Emma and Sidney Fletcher in the first book of this series, Becoming Lady Lockwood. While they are not the main characters, we get a sense of who they are. I'm so glad they got the starring roles in this book. When the book begins, Emma is a girl on the cusp of womanhood. Sydney loves Emma as he would love a sister. But Emma loves Sydney as a woman loves a man. She is just waiting for the day when she steps out into society as a woman so Sydney can take notice.
Emma begins this book fairly naive. She makes choices led by her heart and finds herself in some serious trouble. Her lack of worldly experience allows her room for growth though. The inner strength she has shines through when she needs it the most. Sydney helps bring out that strength in Emma but it is her gentleness that pulls Sydney through the tortured spots in his soul. I love that together they are the thing the other needs the most.
This is a clean romance. Just a really good, clean romance. The romance develops slowly and it just feels natural. The book is set in the middle of a war so things get bloody and difficult but provide the exact things this book needs for the characters. I loved it. Love, love, love.
I read this book through Deseret Bookshelf. It magically appeared there for me to review and I'm so glad. This book was one of my favorites.
Jennifer Moore is one talented lady. I thought her writing couldn't of gotten any better with her first book Becoming Lady Lockwood, but I was wrong. I was blown away by this book. It was so amazing. Emma was beyond anything I could have imagined her to be. She was an impressive gal when we first meet her, but what she had to endure through this book astounded me. She was a rock star. From the summary we know that Emma loves Sidney, and has for years, when he is thought dead, she does whatever it takes to try to find the truth and save him. At one point while reading, I just screamed (out loud mind you, with an empty house), someone please help them! Emma endured a lot as a child with her drunk father, but oh my goodness, she amazed me throughout this book. Sidney was incredible too. I loved the journey he took with himself as he figured out how he felt about Emma. What he had to live through as a prisoner for two months, was heartbreaking. I was impressed that the author didn't skirt around the issues that he and Emma faced. Nor did the author shield the reader from the spoils of war. Her war details were so descriptive, it helped me get a glimpse of the horrors of war.
5 out of 5 stars. Although this book could be meant as a stand-alone, I think you will understand and relate to Sidney (as well as William and Amelia) if you have read Becoming Lady Lockwood.
For some reason, it’s harder to subjectively analyze a book when I find myself really enjoying it more than the usual stuff I read for entertainment. It’s hard to put my finger on why it’s easier to connect with one author’s characters over another’s when I have just as little in common with them as far as life experiences are concerned. Is it a failure in the writer or the reader? My gut tells me it’s less about failure and more about difference of people in general. The works of a writer can touch one person and fall flat for another. So…. there I go waxing philosophical.
For me, I tend to really like a story when I can see symbolic parallels to my own life. And that was the case with this particular story. I loved it. I may not literally have to maneuver my way through a war zone to safety, but sometimes living life can feel that way. I like that the heroine found her own kind of strength and that partnering that with the hero’s strength was able to get them through.
Content-wise, the violence did get pretty descriptive.
3.5 stars I struggled with this book for the first half which is why I'm giving it 3.5 stars. Emma irritated me and seemed very selfish. Her actions were endangering so many people. -__- But by the end of the book she redeemed herself to an extent. This book had a lot more graphic talk of war and prisons, and I wasn't really expecting that. But you could tell Jennifer Moore did her research! Sydney was back. I loved him in Becoming Lady Lockwood, so it was great to catch up with him and see how his future unfolds. He's awesome. Overall, a good book, just not a favorite.
3.5 stars This book was a quick read. I can't quite call it a "fun" read, it wasn't quite lighthearted enough to be called that, but it was enjoyable. It took me awhile to warm up to Emma's character, she was so naive and frankly stupid in the beginning, but she improved with time making the ending satisfactory.
Review: Who didn't L-O-V-E Sidney in Becoming Lady Lockwood? He was just so fun, and the way he teased William was fantastic. It reminded me of the awesome BFF relationship between Sarah Eden's the Duke and Henry, two of my favorite characters. And here, in Lady Emma's Campaign, I got to get deep into Sidney and find out so much more about him. It really rounded out his character. While the way Emma got to Spain was a bit of a stretch for me, once there everything went really well. I've discussed on Twitter with Sarah (and also Jennifer) about how we love that Jennifer's characters can get into trouble but still remain ladies. One big pet peeve of mine in historical fiction is how many authors try to make heroines too modern in order to appeal to modern audiences. Lady Emma's Campaign walks that fine line with excellence! Emma behaves exactly as a lady would when first thrown into the situation, but also grows exactly as we want to see her and becomes stronger while still behaving as a lady would. :) I'm pretty sure I loved this book even more than Becoming Lady Lockwood.
Content Sex - 1ish (Sidney and Emma go off together alone as part of a plan and some men assume naughty things) Language - 1 (Strong language of the Regency era. ;) ) Violence - 2 (Battles are mentioned, details, not too graphic, of death, injuries, etc related to war) Rating - PG
Emma has loved Sidney Fletcher since she was 11 years old. He is her older brother's best friend and always saw her as sister rather than a young woman.
When she learns that Sidney has been captured behind enemy lines in Spain, drastic measures are called for. She stows away on her brother's ship so she can help rescue him.
Plans made out of desperation rarely go well. Emma finds herself behind enemy lines along with Sidney and a few other prisoners. This is her opportunity to show Sidney that she is no longer the school girl in braids.
This book was just what I needed. A great love story that pulled me in from the beginning. I loved the characters and laughed at the escapades the characters found themselves in.
I really enjoyed this book. Some great historic background and a good story that built well and ended beautifully:} I loved the first one as well and highly recommend Becoming lady Lockwood and reading it first. I love a good changing character that you like but you are saying come on get a back bone and they do! This was written in a time of war and had some pretty gruesome scenes that I wished had been a little tamer or glossed over. There is no talk of religion but the book is very clean except for the violence.
This book was so so good, I loved it! I loved watching all the characters friendships and relationships grow. The love story was so sweet I just loved it!! This is the first book I have read by Jennifer Moore, and I didn't know it was the second book in a series so I will be downloading the first one very very soon. I think I will be reading this one again, so so good:)
3 1/2 stars. I really enjoyed Becoming Lady Lockwood, so I was super excited to read Lady Emma's campaign. There was much more war action in this one--which wasn't bad for me, but I know will be for other readers. I liked that Emma, who was a pampered debutante, was able to tough out all she had to do. I will definitely watch for more by Jennifer Moore! language:clean, heat level: mild,
I was excited to find out that this book would be about Sidney's story, but didn't love it right away. It took me some time to like Emma and really appreciate her. But once I got into it, this book was fun and adventurous. The story was great! Not quite four stars, but close enough. Now I must read the next one. :)
I loved this book so much! While technically a regency, this story takes you on an adventure through war-torn Spain. Jennifer Moore transports you to ships, prisons, abandoned towns, and the beautiful Spanish countryside. She brings this time of history alive for the reader and supports it with an engaging plot and lovable characters. In so many other regency books you read about the Napoleonic war, but this book actually takes you there and puts you right in the middle of the conflict. Filled with action, suspense, danger and the realities of war-time this book kept me hooked from the first to last page. And while it does include some of those inevitable darker moments of war and battle, overall I thought the book had an underlying message of hope, strength, resilience, and the beauty of the human spirit in hard times. Emma and Sidney were two great main characters and their struggles and triumphs added so much to an already great story. I loved finally getting their story and I hope we get books from characters we’ve met in this story. Lady Emma’s Campaign is the perfect book for anyone looking for a regency adventure that is completely different and wonderful.
Very exciting story from beginning to end! I was about a third of the way through and thought, what else could happen during the rest of the book because it can't just be 'happily ever after' now... Don't worry. It wasn't! Lady Emma Drake's brother is Lord Lockwood (who is featured with Amelia Becket in Jennifer Moore's book "Becoming Lady Lockwood") and his best friend Captain Sidney Fletcher is missing/killed in action during a war between Spain, France, and England in the 1800's. Lord Lockwood decides to find a ship to go see if he can find Sidney. Emma can't just sit home and wait because she has been in love with Sidney since she was little, so the adventure begins!
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Usually, when the funny best friend sidekick gets his own love story in a sequel, I have a hard time seeing him as a love interest. But Sidney and Emma made it work 😁 This book had great supporting characters, the good guys and the bad ones.
Oh my goodness, this book was so good! I wasn't sure about it at first, but at the end, I just couldn't put it down. I love Sidney so much and loved seeing his character development and struggles. Emma's character development was so good and I loved that she just took Nico in. I loved it all.
It was cute but one thing really bothered me: they kept repeating a phrase in Spanish that was totally grammatically incorrect. I honestly have no idea how no one caught this before publishing it but it completely ruined a lot of the moments of the book for me.
Another absolutely fantastic book by Jennifer Moore! At first I did not like Emma. She was whiny and pampered. But her character development was fantastic and I love Sidney and it was all so good!
Lady Emma fell in love with Sidney Fletcher during her teen years, but her older brother’s best friend barely noticed her. Of course, he’s busy being a British naval captain and has resigned himself to remaining a lifelong bachelor at sea. Emma’s heart breaks when she learns that Sidney has been killed in the Napoleonic Wars, but her brother, William soon learns that Sidney is NOT dead, but is secretly being held prisoner in a French fort in Spain. Emma stows away on William’s ship, determined to rescue Sidney, after which, he’ll be so grateful, he’ll propose, right?
But then there’s this treasure hunt, a battle, strangers who may or may not be trusted, and she’s behind enemy lines. Let’s just say that Emma has no idea what she’s getting into.
Emma starts off delightfully naïve, as should be expected from a high society London girl. Her daydreams cannot prepare her for what she’s walking into, and she can’t fathom any danger coming to a young woman of her station. Her character development includes a great amount of toughening up and accepting that social mores aren’t all that practical. It’s fun watching her learn these lessons, and since she doesn’t learn them overnight, it felt very natural. I liked the way she fights against these changes. It makes sense, because when faced with something so frightening, she turns to the few familiar comforts she has left. Her stubbornness is endearing, mostly because she's able to find her inner strength and get the job done. We know early on that Emma is no hot-house orchid, having had experiences that required toughness, so it's interesting watching her dip back into that reserve that she's tried so hard to forget about.
Sidney remains an admirable gentleman, bound by duty and what he sees as a brotherly bond to Emma. He wants to be a protector, but he’s exhausted from his weeks in prison and beginning to show symptoms of PTSD, which wasn’t acknowledged as a disorder at the time. Romance is far from his mind.
Though Emma’s actions are driven by love, this story reads more like a wartime adventure, which holds this book apart from its predecessor, BECOMING LADY LOCKWOOD. These characters have to find safety before they can start thinking about love, and danger is everywhere. So while I totally wanted to see Sidney and Emma sailing off to their happily ever after, I spent most of my reading time wondering how they were going to survive to that point. I enjoyed this break from a traditional romance plot, and I appreciated the theme of the crazy things that love might make a person do.
The historical setting is rich and well researched, transporting me to war-stricken Spain in an effortless fashion. I’m looking forward to future publications from Jennifer Moore!
• Clean read: no harsh language, sexual situations, drug/alcohol use • Violence in a wartime context—injuries and deaths to soldiers and innocent victims

MY TAKE I have not read these books order. That's okay. Moore does a good job of making each book a story into itself. However, I realized that some of the characters I knew, besides Sidney and Emma (and her brother William and his wife Amelia, of course). I didn't realize at first that the soldier and the other woman who came away from the prison after their escape were the princess and her rescuer from Miss Burton Unmasks a Prince. I LOVED that book, and now I want to go back and read it again just because I understand more about those two than I did before.
As for Lady Emma's Campaign. This was a charming story, and I was happy to see Sidney get his own HEA. He's such a fun character from the Becoming Lady Lockwood. It was fun to see Emma go after what she wanted (Sidney). She was a little irritating at first because she was young, incredibly naive, and pretty spoiled. She wanted what she wanted and was so disheartened when the world didn't give it to her the way she wanted it.
But the Colonel recognized the strength in her, and her character arc was a fun journey. She found out so much about herself. The face-to-face with Sidney (which I won't spoil) showed truly how much she had grown. And was poignant, making the ultimate ending very sweet.
