But some things haven't changed... and when two old friends become involved in a life-threatening situation, they start to realize that maybe there is more to their friendship than just memories… Luke Desmond broke off his engagement and left town when he realized he was about to marry the wrong sister. Marisa Bengotti couldn’t forgive him for breaking her sister’s heart…and for not knowing that he’d always held hers. When Luke reappears, in danger and on the run from bounty hunters, Marisa finds herself caught in a web of danger and deceit, putting at risk not only a secret collection she has sworn to protect, but also her bruised heart. With the bounty hunters closing in, Marisa and Luke join together in a dangerous game that could keep their world from being destroyed…but will their hearts survive?

English Review

I’ve read the first two volumes of this series in French and the following four in English as the French translation did not follow (which is unfortunate). With Tempted by the Night, I found out that Joss Ware is none other than Colleen Gleason. I enjoy this series because it combines two of my favorite genres: romance and apocalyptic.

I regret to say that I was disappointed by this novella. Indeed, the romance between Marisa and Luke seemed sloppy to me in the end, as if the author was in a hurry to finish it. In addition, this brings nothing new to the frame of the main story.

Love this series. Think I would have liked this novella more as a full length novel, but it was fun to be able to dive back into the world!

Marisa is a sweet nerdish girl who is keeper of the library in River Vale. Luke broke off his engagement to Marisa's sister and left town and he's back... back at the same time MITs (Men in Trucks) also pay a visit to River Vale. Both have secrets they are trying to protect, ones of the heart and ones that can get them kill.

Just when I was having withdrawals from the Envy series, Tempted by the Night pops up and gives me a exciting moment to step back into this dystopian society I have come to love. Marisa is just a sweetie and yet there's this feisty kitten side when it comes to Luke. He, on the other hand, I was expecting to be a jerk since he ditched her sister on their wedding day. Nope, he's actually comes off as being very noble...once you get the full story. There's a daring side to her that comes out when she and Luke work together to further the Resistance and yes, there's just enough time for some romance along the way.

Bonus points for a revisit of some past characters, including one of my favorite bad (but not evil!) MITs, that can make a first time reader to this series curious. For those of us who been following the series all along very happy and leave us begging for more. And more there will be because if you read the book to the very end, you will see a note from Ms. Gleason stating there will be four more Envy books. I personally cannot wait!

Tempted by the Night reads well as a stand-alone and is a great taste into this series. I, however recommend reading the whole series from the very beginning. With all the world building and interesting characters, it's sure to please everyone's palette. If you're going to try out a dystopian series for the very first time, the Envy Chronicles is a great place to start.

I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.

This was a fun, short read set in this series. I enjoyed some of the cameos (whether in person or name being mentioned) in this one. My big takeaway was finding out there are more Envy books planned. Not sure if they will be self-published/small press. So, here's to hoping that happens!

Interesting premise, okay romance. Will see if the rest of the series is available through the library or Kindle Unlimited.

Great read! It's my understanding that this "short novel" (and it only took me a little over an hour to read, and I am not a fast reader) is designed as a stand-alone story to introduce and re-introduce characters for the next set of books set within this same world.

I have not read any of the books in The Envy Chronicles, but now I most definitely will! This book packed a lot of good stuff within it's thin covers (and oh, what a sexy cover that is!) There was action, romance, mystery, and even a few little scares!

My only disappointment is that it ended! I want to continue on the journey with Marisa and Luke. I want to find out Ian's story and who was cut out of the picture. I need to know about the zombies, what they are searching for, and what they do with the blonds!

For a short book, there was a surprising amount of character development and intricate plot development. The descriptions and details of this post-apocolyptic world really came to life. There was never a dull moment. This book left me wanting to find out more about the world that has already been developed in the previous books, but never left me frustrated or confused because I hadn't read the previous titles. It takes a talented author to do that!

Recommended for fans of the Envy Chronicles. All others, skip this. I thought this was full of too many convenient circumstances that allowed the H/h to escape the bad guys, and that took away from my enjoyment of this very short novella. I still enjoyed the world-building and the setting for the series, but this installment didn't do much for me.

Loved being plunged back into this world, but the story was WAY TOO SHORT! I could barely remember who Luke was as it's been a while since I have read the series. Still an enjoyable, if not short, read and I can not wait until the next book is out.

A good short book, just missing a little something. And not clear where it is in the sequence, what should I read next to see what happens to the characters?
