Lifelong friends Sophie and Violet were practically sisters. Now at college, they’ve been slowly drifting apart. But when Violet accidentally drowns at a sorority hazing, a devastated Sophie pleads with the psychic SISTER HOOD to contact her dead friend. Sometimes you get what you wish for…but on Hyde Street, there’s always a cost…and it’s a killer.
MAYTAL ZCHUT is a queer, first generation Israeli-American writer, known for her character-driven drama and genre television work, including the DC’s Stargirl. DEVOUR, her first comic for Ghost Machine, arrives October 2024.
Devour showed that Maytal belonged in the Machine. Sisterhood #1 has solidified that statement. I’m really loving Hyde Street and its adjacent titles (and I had never read a horror comic book in my 50 years of existence).
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for providing me a copy in exchange for my honest thoughts. I read issues 1-5 for this review. This was wonderfully creepy but also very sad. We follow best friends Sophie and Violet who have suffered through a great trauma together as they grow up and go to the same college. Violet wants to rush a sorority and Sophie does not. Unfortunately, Violet perishes in the rushing process. But not all that dies stays dead. This gets increasingly crazier as the story goes on. I loved the friendship aspect but also watching Sophie come into her own and find her voice. The copy I received also included a bonus story titled Devour which offered an interesting commentary on diet culture and society's expectations surrounding weight and thinness. I really, really enjoyed that one perhaps more than sisterhood but both were very good and I would highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley and Image comics for the chance to read this for an honest review .
It’s gruesome, almost sends me back to the creepshow or goosebumps era of the 80s/90s
I really enjoyed this I’ve read other Hyde street stories a found this fun horror with excellent illustrations storytelling and a unique twist on horror.
For those who like the ice cream man , wicked and divine something is killing the children or if you like it slightly darker but small town revival is excellent this is just more tongue and cheek.
