Logan longs for adventure. But around Chance Ranch, marriage seems mandatory. So Logan and Bryce, youngest of the Chance men, set out to see what the Lord could have for them in Salt Lick Holler. Plenty of blessings have come out of that town - maybe it was time for someone from Reliable, California, to bless the town folk back. Hattie Thales, widow at twenty-one, knows her place. She delights in being the holler's healer and the companion to aged Widow Hendricks. She could marry again, but who would want a wife who can't bear him sons? Will Logan's chance adventure lead him to love? Could Hattie be facing her first chance at true love?
Kelly Eileen Hake is a reader favorite of Barbour's Heartsong Presents series, where she has released several books. A credentialed Secondary English teacher in California, she is pursing her MA in Writing Popular Fiction. Known for her own style of witty, heartwarming historical romance, Kelly is currently writing the Prairie Promises trilogy, her first full-length novels. She has been writing since she could hold a pen and was first published at the tender age of eighteen.
Chance Adventure was a sweet read. I liked the setting and the romance was nice. I didn't like the writing style 100%, but it was pretty good. I felt like this was part of a series (not sure if it is) and I missed things that had happened previously. That was a little frustrating as it seemed like there was a lot that happened earlier.
Surrounded by married couples and babies on the Chance Ranch, Logan Chance is going a bit stir-crazy. He needs a break, and what better avenue for finding oneself than heading out to Salt Lick Holler, Kentucky, where there are both family relations and an unfamiliar environment. He and the other unwed brother, Bryce, travel to Salt Lick Holler, and spend the summer with healers Miz Willow and young, very pretty widow Hattie Thales. As Logan gets to know the sweet country folk, he grows very attached to Hattie, and she to him. But he's leaving at the end of summer, and even if he wasn't, she's barren, and all men want sons...right?
While I liked both lead characters, this was kind of light on the romance. They don't spend much time alone in this. So I'm shocked this won me over as much as it did. Really, the secondary characters and setting of Salt Lick Holler were the real stars here. The supporting cast is so vibrant. The terrible waspish Clearys, kooky old sweetheart Miz Willow, Nessie and her drunkard father, crotchety-with-a-heart-of-gold Otis...all delightful. It truly got much more fun, cozy, and atmospheric as it went. And there's a great setup for the final book in the series.
Also, the churchiness was not quite as aggressive in this as in Taking a Chance, which I think is for the better.
Logan Chance is the youngest of the Chance brothers and wants adventure but he travels to Salt Lick Holler to stay with his sister-in-law’s relatives. Logan meets Hattie Thales a twenty-one year old widowed healer and he is fascinated with Hattie. Hattie feels it is too early to marry again and is hesitant for romance with Logan. Logan will do anything to prove his love for Hattie. I really enjoyed this inspirational Christian romance novel.
This is actually book #2 and should be read before Chance of a Lifetime. Pretty good. Hattie wasn't quite as enjoyable as Lovejoy from the last book but Logan adds enough fun to the story. At this point you really do need to have started at the beginning of the series to properly understand the characters and their choices.
I enjoyed reading about Logan and Hattie and all the others. These characters wiggled their way into my heart and I miss them already. Definitely recommend!
It was a good story, but I enjoyed the previous short stories in the Brides of Chance series better, but I do love how it took place in Salt Lick Holler this time.

An 'inspirational' fiction novel written by a girl her senior year of college... and I have to say, I'm 'plumb impressed'. It wasn't hokey, fake faith based. It wasn't prettily written Old West. It was a story about a small, poor 'holler' where people were touched by a young man setting out to find his place in the world (and hopefully have a little adventure, on the way).
There were bits that didn't make sense (where'd they get their $$ before? Who in their right mind would've left that trunk? Nobody, that's who.) But I suspended all of that for the sake of a beautiful book. The characterizations were wonderful, the twangy dialogue... it was all delightful.
Logan and his brother left their ranch home in Calfornia to visit some people that lived in the town that their brothers brought their wives from. They found people living in an entire different lifestyle. Their lives changed as they met these folk who lived with little contact out of their village . They wanted to do something to help them to overcome their neediness both physically and spiritually. With, prayers they accomplished that and one them fell in love .
I enjoyed reading this book from the beginning to the end. It covered several things. Hattie was a healer who helped the people in her area. Logan was looking for adventure. I enjoyed following this book and highly recommend it.
