Cain and Abel are transferred to the battleship Sleipnir for a critical mission, and the further they venture into enemy space, the deeper their relationship becomes. As Cain struggles to make a name for himself among his new shipmates, the Commanders assign Abel to a project that may give the Alliance a decisive advantage in the war against the Colterons. The Commanders, however, may not necessarily have Abel's best interests at heart…
It's getting more and more interesting. The plot is thickening and the characters' interactions are becoming more complex. And yummy times. Oh, and Cain gets a caring side? How cool is that...
Still very strong, although I was confused at a couple points. What does Keeler keep looking concerned or anxious about (maybe we're not supposed to know at this point)? Who is the boy that looks like Abel in the scene with the commanding officer, and is this a flashback or the current timeline? Why do the navigators look so much alike? We know Abel has an elite family far away, so it isn't that they're clones or something like that.
Looking forward to getting some answers, hopefully. I had thought looking at the contents page that this was finished but it terms of pacing and amount remaining it doesn't feel like it. I guess we'll see soon enough.
Review: You can find my series review in my review of Ch. 1! Below are my thoughts for this chapter specifically.
First Read Thoughts (Ch. 3):
Well, well, well, I think there was actually more story than sex this time! Still plenty of sex though, so nobody panic. I also liked Abel more---he had more of a backbone---and if only Cain hadn't been so abusive and sociopathic in the beginning, I think I might actually like him. Apparently he likes cuddles (he moved their mattresses next to each other on the floor so they could sleep together instead of in bunk beds), and he even shared his food with Abel at one point. And that scene after the mission when they hugged <3 There were also a couple pages in the beginning that showed how they've been getting along with each other, which was cute, but it was so brief; I wanted more like that. I liked seeing how all the different teams worked together on the mission though. It's still not exactly the deepest thing I've ever read, but this comic is growing on me.
Oh, Chapter 3 was definitely better. So much better than the previous two. I feel like I got to know the characters more in this one, and this was definitely when the relationship started to become more. Cain and Abel spent a lot more time together, and even though we didn't see all of it, the author/artist did a great job of showing us bits and pieces and just the right moments and interactions to make it feel real. Their relationship has also clearly reached a much more healthy and equal place. It's no longer just Cain being a dominant asshole. Cain listened to Abel about things. He worked with him instead of arguing against him. He went over to his lunch table, even though fighters and navigators apparently never sit together, and let Abel try his food. He hugged him, this big attack of a hug, in front of a whole group of people. The relationship has evolved so much, into one I actually ship and like and find cute. And oh gosh, how Abel was the complete opposite of Cain when they switched places in the bedroom was so funny. *SPOILER* *END SPOILER* There was also some mysterious stuff starting to happen with whatever abilities Abel has, and more hints at the higher-ups' bigger machinations.
Recommended For: Anyone who likes erotic comics, manga-style artwork, space battles, m/m romance, and romance that starts a little fucked up but ends cute.
You know, it didn't even take one chapter for my wish to come true. I can't say the same thing for my real life wishes, but oh well, I take what I can get.
To be honest, I'm just surprised at how much these two characters are different from how they were introduced in the first chapter. Is it too obvious that I'm loving this or not?
What that basically means is, "I don't rightly know how in fuck's name that I managed to survive all this time without getting back to this comic and reading the most incredible chapter I have EVER READ. HOW?? HOW????? WHY DID I TAKE ME THIS LONG TO GET BACK TO IT?! IT IS PERFECTION!!!!!!"
Welllllll... I didn't like this one as much as the others but I still liked it.
I gotta be honest. The space war thing is not really my thing, I'm only here for Cain and Abel and how they grow and how they have sex, lol. So this chapter had more space war stuff so I guess that's why it's not my favorite.
I'm still liking it though! Can't wait to read chapter 4 tomorrow!
Take back everything I said about the drawing...it's superb!! Cain and Abel go into battle against the Colterons, and their relationship strengthens but something's not quite right on board the Alliance ship.
I thought I couldn't bear anything with spaceship fights but I'm actually loving those here?! Also immensely enjoyed to see more moments with different characters interacting and the art only keeps getting better!
Cain being a cocky bitch at the cafeteria has been my favourite thing so far
La historia va mejorando poco a poco, los personajes se van desarrollando y la historia va cogiendo fuerza. Estoy definitivamente enganchada a esta historia.
I'm conflicted. I cannot read yaoi anymore. I mean...the story might be good, there's erotica, etc. but...just no. the trope feels way too yaoi for me, which is not bad, it's okay. I used to read a lot of yaoi but it doesn't interest me anymore and makes me feel conflicted cause of all the....things that usually go in the gay literature discussions. So nope.
10/12/14 - Read to Ch. 4 Pg. 29: I wasn't too sure I'd like this in the beginning, but the drawings steadily improved as well as the plot. Bonus points for the explicit content ;) Going with 3.5 stars for now.
Was right in thinking it only gets better as it goes on! For sure my favorite chapter thus far. The dynamic between fighter and navigator is so intriguing. How they're separated into different forms of training and tables in the mess hall, how navigators are fashioned im all white including their hair, black for the fighters, but each character is still so distinctive, their features matching their backgrounds. The art style certainly is one of my favorite things about this webcomic, which is funny how my opinion about it changed so fast. And the banter between characters is just fkn hilarious. I feel invested in these characters and their relations, how it's progressing so far. And honestly, we haven't even gotten to the major space battle, but it was already intense asf. Really nothing to hate here. Especially since the mc's aren't afraid to switch, which I've been waiting to discover in a yaoi! The more I keep reading, the hotter these scenes become tbh. I just wish we had more than five chapters!
At the median point of this space erotica, things are starting to heat up, to spark and ignite and flare.
Cain and Abel are tested like they haven't been before: how well can their Navigator/Fighter skills hold up in the immense pressure of battle? For anyone who's been worried that Abel seems spineless, everything you read in Chapter 3 (and honestly, well before that) should rout that.
The ways the reader is allowed to see Cain through Abel's eyes linger longer the more time you allow yourself to treat the art as vital to the storytelling: the contours of a jaw, the curl of a smile, the snarl of a mouth are as important as anything Hamlet Machine is doing with the text. Often more so. Through Abel's eyes, Cain is profoundly *seen*: sharply, intensely, at rest and play and war. What could be more intimate? What could be more terrifying?
This volume is more action based, but it includes serious character development. That hug between Abel and Cain after destroying some 'teron's ships was really significant. Finally, we're getting somewhere: the plot his turning interesting with all of that scheming on part of Bering and Cook --ugh, that son of a b*tch!-- and new important characters were introduced (Encke and Keeler).
But don't get alarmed, there are still very descriptive porn scenes!
Once again lovely seeing some character development and the progress Cain and Abel are making to work together as a team. Some of the physical scenes which the other character imagined I got fooled by because I was literally like ABEL NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING? The ending though what?
For someone who devoured the whole comic online in less than 3 hours, I can definitely see the development of the plot and storyline, and I think the concept is fantastic! It’s so interesting and I love the art style.
