Cassie Blake has spent her whole life building walls—around her heart, her dreams, and her future. With a mom lost to addiction and a father who walked out before she learned how to ride a bike, Cassie’s learned the hard way that relying on anyone but herself only leads to disappointment. She’s determined to carve out a better life, even if that means pushing everyone away—especially guys like Jace McKinley.
Jace has a reputation—reckless choices and no strings attached. But behind the charm and bad-boy smile is someone who sees Cassie for who she is. He sees past her guarded exterior and wants more than just a chance—he wants all of her. But Jace is hiding something. A secret that could break the fragile trust Cassie is starting to give him—or finally set them both free.

She lives in Arkansas with her high-school sweetheart and their three children. When she isn’t spending time with her family, you can find her scrolling through Pinterest for her next book idea or reading on her Kindle. As the mom of an autistic son, Mackenzie is a fierce advocate for special education rights and for creating inclusive environments for all children.
Mackenzie Hart did it again! Jace and Cassie are a power couple. Their back and forth banter kept me laughing. The past traumas brought up throughout this book goes to show that you can get past it and move forward even if there are challenges. It goes to show that sometimes family isn’t just blood. It’s the ones who choose to be there when you need them!
10/10 recommend this book to EVERYONE! And just like Cowgirls Don’t Cry- I most definitely binged this book!
I received this as an ARC and am so happy I did! I love the this book which isn’t surprising because I also loved the first one and can’t wait to read the next! Cassie and Jaces stories are very inspirational on what they both overcame both together and solo. This book really shows that your past dosnt define you!
Jace crushed hard since the day Cassie strolled into town, even though she wouldn’t give him the time of day. Will Jace and Cassie be able to push through their traumas and demons and fall for each other in the process?
If I’m being honest, the first thing that drew me to this series was the covers. I know that sounds a little silly, but they’re so cute I couldn’t resist. The other thing that pulled me in? Mackenzie’s TikTok. My FYP is basically books and dark humor, so Cassie immediately felt like my kind of girl.
Cassie is such a strong FMC. She’s a business owner with a sharp tongue, fiercely loyal to the people she loves—especially her best friends and June. But she’s also incredibly caring, and you can see that in the way she shows up for the people around her.
Jace…well, we learn pretty early on he has a bit of a past as a ladies’ man. One of my favorite moments is at the beginning when he tells his niece June (yes, the same June Cassie absolutely adores) that he really likes Cassie. When Cassie is going on a date, he asks June to put in a good word for him, which was honestly adorable.
This book has so many funny moments—drunken confessions, chaotic situations, and even a vehicle mishap that lands someone in the hospital. But it also has some really hard moments. There are definitely some heavier themes here, and if addiction is a trigger for you, it’s worth checking the author’s content notes.
What I appreciated most is how real the characters feel. Not every FMC or MMC is perfect, and when authors write complicated issues with care and realism, it makes you want to keep reading their work.
I absolutely enjoyed the heck out of this one and will definitely be reading the rest of the series. These are interconnected standalones, and the next sibling’s story comes out later this month—and I’m already excited for it.
Cowgirl Up is the second (#2) book in the SILVER CREEK series
Cassie Blake keeps herself closed off from those around her. It’s the only way she can cope with the many tragedies in her life - an absent father, an addict mother and recovering from physical trauma. Determined to make herself a better life, guarding her heart is her way of protecting herself. That is until Jace McKinley barrels his way through her walls, determined to get Cassie to see him for who he really is….
———————————
With Thanks to Mackenzie Hart for an early read of this delightful book! This was my first read by Mackenzie and I’m so glad to be introduced to her lovely work!
** PLEASE CHECK FOR TRIGGERS BEFORE READING THIS BOOK**
Cowgirl Up is a wonderful, thoughtful and emotional read. Both Cassie and Jace struggle with issues but both are strong characters in their own way. I really felt for Jace, when he was desperately trying to do everything in his power to get Cassie to see past his reputation and give him a chance. Cassie is stubborn, closed off but still clearly cares deeply about those around her but her insecurities about her self worth are evident. Their connection was well written and you can’t help but urge this pair towards their HEA.
I read an ebook version of this book at just over 230 pages and with an enticing cover, I highly recommend this book. I will certainly be looking out for more reads by this author.
🤠 Cowboy Romance 🤠Small Town Romance 🤠 Swoonworthy Hero 🤠 He Falls First
Some likeable characters in this small town cowboy romance. Cassie has had quite a tough start in life but her tenacity has meant that she’s built an amazing life for herself. Jace McKinley is ranch royalty. …considered to be a bit of a playboy drinker his reputation precedes him. But a rude awakening two years previous set Jace on a completely different path but how will he ever live his reputation down!
Pining for Cassie, he finally sets out to prove his worth to her but can he convince her that he’s everything that she needs and not just the boy toy she keeps accusing him of being whilst still keeping himself on track.
I did like these two very much however there were some inconsistencies for me. I also struggled with Cassie a couple of times…after hating on him for years, she suddenly gives in to the temptation of him bare chested in her kitchen….not because she’s been craving him or anything but simply because he was there….However when he does the honourable thing and slows things down, for his own reasons I might add….she suddenly decides he’s broken her heart….? I couldn’t quite figure that one out…she didn’t respect his feelings at all! So I was a little frustrated with her to say the least!! There were a couple of other little things that I’m sure the final round of editing will pick up. I still enjoyed this new to me, small town and I’ll be looking out for Molly and Liam’s story up next.
Where do I even begin with this one? I love a good cowboy romance, but Cowgirl Up hit completely differently, in the best way.
Before anything else, definitely check the trigger warnings. This story goes deep, and it tackles some heavy realities with so much care.
Cassie absolutely stole my heart. She’s strong, fiercely independent, and has spent most of her life taking care of herself and her mom, who struggles with addiction. That piece hit close to home for me, and I truly feel like Mackenzie Hart captured the emotional rollercoaster of loving someone who battles addiction. Raw, honest, and so real.
And then there’s Jace. My guy. He’s the redemption arc I didn’t know I needed. Beneath the reputation and charm is someone with such a good heart. I loved how he let Cassie set the pace, how he respected her boundaries, and how open he was about his own sobriety and struggles. His vulnerability made this story for me.
The last part of the book? I was literally on edge and yelling at my Kindle. 🤣 I needed Jace to make the right choice and he did. The ending wrapped up in a way that felt both emotional and earned.
Mackenzie Hart wrote these characters with so much tenderness and authenticity. It was raw, heartfelt, and beautifully done. This book really stuck with me, and I cannot wait for the next book!
✨Summary✨ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ HEA: Yes, no 3rd act breakup POV: dual Tropes: Cowboy, Friends to Lovers, Slow Burn, DV Survivor, “It’s Always Been You”, Small Town, Found Family, Pregnancy
Ellie left her hometown and her best friend Colt 2 years ago after her parents passed away, believing there was nothing left for her there. Now she’s back after fleeing an abusive relationship. Colt let Ellie go when she needed space after her loss, even though it was the hardest thing he had ever done. He was in love with her. What he never realized was that she had always loved him too. Now that she’s back, he’s determined not to lose her again.
Colt and Ellie were really sweet together. Their banter was easy and their shared history made their moments feel warm and familiar. There were some tension filled scenes, but once they finally confronted their feelings the relationship moved forward naturally in the comfortable way only a friends to lovers story really can.
I did struggle a bit with some timeline and continuity issues. There were a few moments where I found myself confused trying to figure out when certain events had happened. Once I stopped focusing on the details so much I was able to settle in and enjoy the story more. I think this night’s be the author’s debut, so I know there can often be some kinks to work out in the early books.
Overall this was a cute, easy read with fun characters and a lower spice level that still delivered on the romance.
I adored this. I also fell in love with MC's so fast! Both characters have a lot of trauma healing within this story. Overcoming your past and not letting it define who you are.
Cassies history and current family drama will make your heart break piece by piece. Jace will have you absolutely swooning with how he treats Cassie. His persistence and patience is just ♥️ he has demons and secrets of his own. Unraveling those makes this a real page turner. Two flawed people carrying a lot of baggage finding love in each other. Their chemistry is amazing and undeniable 😍
The author did a great job at sprinkling a little bit of mystery in the beginning! Immediately I was like wait what happened?!?! Which made this book impossible to put down.
I laughed, I swooned... Their relationship was not only real and raw the entire premise around addiction. I absolutely loved everything about this story.
This is part of an interconnected series. I personally haven't read the first one but will definitely be going back to do so!

Thank you for my ARC! I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
I don't know how she did it, but this book is even better than Cowgirls Don't Cry which I loved so much!
The way these characters stories unfold was pure beauty - through heartaches, triumph, secrets and confessions - I couldn't get enough of them.
Cassie owns the local coffee shop and spends after hours dealing with her mom who has an addiction problem - her walls are as high as they get with no plans to let them crumble especially after surviving an apartment fire 2 years ago.
Jace is the fun-loving, trouble making middle child of the McKinley crew who has his own demons kept at bay, but his heart belongs to Cassie - even if she has no clue.
I knew by the way these two were bantering in the beginning I wouldn't be able to put this book down!
The chemistry between Jace and Cassie is HOT! I mean these two were meant for each other in all the ways!
They saved each other without even knowing it - just absolutely beautiful storytelling here.
The way Mackenzie wrote about addiction, sobriety and trauma is so well done and leaves you with tears, smiles and healing feelings by the end of this book.
I am so thankful Mackenzie selected me as an ARC reader for this one in exchange for my honest review! I cannot wait for the next one!
I wanted to like this one…I really did, but it was a miss. The bones of an amazing book were there, but it got lost in the way the story was structured.
The banter between Cassie and Jace was fun and flirty at the start, but after one date where things got heated and Jace left, Cassie’s character shift became a bit frustrating. She completely iced him out without giving him a chance to explain himself. I also found her reaction to the situation confusing, she kept referring to herself as “heartbroken,” which didn’t quite land for me. Up until that point, they felt more like acquaintances (friends at a stretch), so it came across as a bit of an overreaction, especially since the secret pining was one-sided on Jace’s part.
It’s such a shame because there were elements of this story that were really strong, especially with Jace’s sobriety storyline and Cassie’s mum dealing with addiction. But the structure felt clunky, and those important threads ended up getting lost.
Even the ending felt abrupt and a little unfinished, which was disappointing. This book had so much potential, it just didn’t quite deliver in the execution.
Tropes, Enemies to Lovers Snowed In / Cabin Found Family Tattooed Cowboy Reformed Playboy Trauma Healing Small Town He Falls First ✨Wear the hat, ride the Cowboy✨
Oh my god this book?! This is my favourite read so far since I got back into reading!! We follow feisty red-head Cassie and tattooed cowboy Jace as they grow from enemies to lovers, in a small town that shoves their nose into everything. Cassie has her walls up way up high to protect herself after suffering from past issues such as a mum with addiction problems and an absent dad. Jace is trying his hardest to win her over and determineed to show his true self after being a past f*ck boy. Both main characters have secrets/issues that cause them trauma, insecurities and struggles in day to day life, and the both of them learn to work through it together (even with Cassie's major stubbornness). 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5!!!
Cowgirl Up was such a fun, fast-paced read that roped me in from the very first chapter. This was my first book by Mackenzie Hart, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I connected with her writing style and characters.
The story of Cassie and Jace flows effortlessly, making it incredibly easy to read in one sitting, and the blend of heart, humor, and small-town charm kept me turning the pages. You find your wanting more by the end of the story. The spice level is a 3. Towards the end you get some great spicy scenes but nothing too spicy. I thought of it more as spice with class
I genuinely enjoyed every moment and found myself fully invested in the journey of overcoming fears from their past and moving on. Mackenzie Hart has officially earned a spot on my must-read author list, and I can’t wait to go back and explore more of her books. If you’re looking for a quick, engaging read with plenty of personality, Cowgirl Up is definitely worth picking up!
I devoured Jace and Cassie in less than a day. I knew from book one I was gonna love their story, but I seriously underestimated how obsessed I’d be.
Cassie? A fiery, strong, independent red-headed goddess. Jace? A hot, tattooed, ornery cowboy who is so down bad for the girl who won’t give him the time of day. Gimme it all day every day, please and thank you.
The banter? Top tier. Their connection? Everything. The way Jace loved her—ugh, swoon city. And Cassie being so supportive of him despite everything she’s been through? I ate that up.
Add this to your TBR immediately.
And now I’m over here dying for Molly and Liam 👀🔥
Tropes: 🦋 Cowboy Romance 🤠 He Falls First 🦋 Enemies to Lovers 🤠 Snowed In
Thank you to Mackenzie Hart for the opportunity to review this, all opinions are my own!
Well this was a delight! A solid 4 star cowboy romance.
Cassie is a headstrong and determined FMC who protects her heart and her business at all costs. She is determined not to repeat history and fall into substance abuse and multiple relationships like her mother did when she was a child. The walls she creates are about to be bulldozed down by the golden retriever of cowboys, Jace. This former playboy has more about that the town gives him credit for and is protecting his heart with a secret of his own.
He falls first and it is delicious. I loved their secret spot, gazing at the stars together and how he looks out for her even when she is pushing him away at every opportunity she can.
Really look forward to reading the rest of this series.
Thank you to Mackenzie Hart for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Selfishly I wanted it to be longer, but also it kinda needed it as well. I think this author does a great job of handling really heavy topics with sensitivity. The author gives layers and depth to characters and romance isn’t the main plot, but rather part of a bigger picture. A lot was packed in 281 pages. This easily could’ve been another 40.
I groaned in frustration the moment Cassie gave in to Jace the first time because it was so sudden and out of left field after just hating on him for no real reason. When he slowed it down for good reasons she became awful. I actually started to question if she had a drinking problem with how heavy she drank. She frustrated me in that she used her trauma as an excuse to just be hateful.
I look forward to the next book and do hope it’s a tad longer since I do enjoy how she tells a story.
I’m normally not a romance reader, but when I saw Mackenzie Hart was publishing a western romance, I had to see what the buzz was. This was the first book I’ve read from Makenzie and it was a great intro for me! I enjoyed the depth of the characters and the meaning behind the book!
I do feel it was a little rushed in some parts, but that may just be me. Also, I feel it could have used one more round of editing (not really that many issues with edits, just here and there).
I will definitely be following along on Makenzie’s publications!
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫 Cowgirl Up (4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5)
I’ve fallen in love with the McKinley family and Makenzie Hart’s writing for some Cowboy/Cowgirl Romance.
This story is about Jace McKinley and Cassie Blake. Cassie is a strong independent business owner who is super annoyed by Jace who is a good ole cowboy that is super ornery but head over heels for Cassie. (Check trigger warnings) Cassie and Jace both have dealt with some tough stuff but the healing journey and snow storm love story is well worth the read. Not to mention, I love a good he falls first book 😍
Thank you so much for the early arc of this book. I highly recommend this series and can’t wait for the third book.
A spicy small-town cowboy romance, found family, a sprinkling of trauma and he falls first?! Sign. Me. Up!
Our MCs are feisty fellow redhead (we love the representation), Cass who had a tough childhood, came from nothing but now owns and runs the local coffee shop and Jace our former playboy tattooed cowboy, who has his own demons to fight but is obsessed with Cass. The chemistry between these two is so good and we love when the fighting is foreplay!
I received an ARC copy of this and am now going to need to go back and read Colt and Ellie’s story before book 3 comes out! Absolutely loved it.
Mackenzie Hart does it again—absolutely amazing! Cowgirl Up is the second book in the Silver Creek series, and it did not disappoint. This story takes us on the journey of Jace and Cassie, and wow… their chemistry is undeniable. Their energy, banter, and deep love for one another radiate off every page—especially Jace. My goodness, that man adores Cassie.
They each carry their own battles, different yet similar, and they support each other through it all in the most beautiful way. I truly couldn’t put this one down. Do yourself a favor and move this straight to the top of your TBR. Now I’m counting down the days for Molly’s story!
Honestly, another okay book. This didn’t have as much winking as the first book but I still don’t think people wink that much in real life. Jace’s alcoholism was kind of out of left field. In the first book it more alluded to him being a playboy. No one mentioned being worried about his drinking. I’m also a little confused about how old the characters are. In the first book Ellie and colt were about 21 years old. This is 4 years later so they’re about 25ish. Jace is the younger brother so that means he can only be around 24 if not younger but it kept alluding to the fact that he’s pushing 30. It’s one thing I really hate in books. I like consistency.
Cowgirl Up is an emotional, small-town cowboy romance that hit me right in the feels 🤠❤️ Cassie is guarded, stubborn, and shaped by a painful past, while Jace is patient, determined, and completely swoon-worthy. Watching him fight to be seen beyond his reputation—and gently push Cassie to see her own worth—was everything 😭✨
Their connection is raw, heartfelt, and beautifully written, with a hero who falls first (yes please 🥹). You can’t help but root for their HEA. this book packs a big emotional punch and left me wanting more from this author.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🤠 Cowboy Romance 🏡 Small Town 💘 Swoonworthy Hero 🔥 He Falls First
WOW! I fell head over heels for Jace. This book was soo good. The MMC and FMC both have their own struggles and trauma that they are overcoming, and they realize they need each other more than thought they did. Cassie is so strong and empowering, while Jace is the reformed bad boy cowboy that melts your heart. The emotions I felt while reading this were intense. I can't wait to see if we get a little more info about how their relationship turns out in Molly's book. I would definitely recommend this book as long as your are okay with the TWs.
This is my second ARC of Mackenzie’s and I’m in love just as I was with Cowgirls Don’t cry. This is the second book in the Silver Creek series and it was sooo good. I couldn’t put it down and I finished it in a day! Cassie is a strong willed girl because she had to be she didn’t have an easy upbringing so she was protecting herself. Jace is a man that doesn’t back down when he wants something and his heart was set on Cass. Truly obsessing over their love story and I wish I could reread it again for the first time!
I absolutely loved this one. Which was no surprise, considering I loved her first one! I loved Cassie and Jace’s stories and the struggles they went through together but also solo. I loved how the author wrote these characters and how yes it’s a wonderful story, but it’s also some really advice, comfort, examples, and inspiration for people who have dealt with or had a loved one that had substance abuse of some kind. I would definitely recommend this and I cannot wait for the 3rd one to come out as well! Check out her first one on Kindle Unlimited (Cowgirls Don’t Cry). You won’t be sorry!
Cassie is a strong FMC even when she didn’t have the greatest childhood, Jace oh Jace I loved everything about him. Both Cassie and Jace have their own struggles but I feel like they’re the perfect match. Since the first time Jace saw Cassie he just knew she was the one for him even if Cassie couldn’t stand him. I just wish there was a bonus epilogue so i can read more about there relationship lol. I can’t wait for the next book i need it like yesterday lol. This is definitely a must read and I highly recommend it.
Thank You Mackenzie for letting me be part of this ARC team.
5⭐️!!!! The way this book had me kicking my feet!! He secretly saved her life, went to rehab to better himself for her, showed her his secret spot for calming his mind(that he has never showed anyone), all while putting up with her shooting him down?! He does not stop showing her that she’s the one for him! Jace, my man my man! Cassie is a bad ass with a big heart! Also glad we got to see a snapshot of Ellie and Colt’s life in this story. One of my favorite series! Can’t wait for book 3 following their best friend and their little sister ❤️
