Elena and Raphael return for the hauntingly poignant conclusion to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s genre-defining Guild Hunter series.
A thousand years.
It’s been a millennium since Elena’s fateful first meeting with Archangel Raphael. She has survived war and loss, experienced beauty and cruelty. But no matter what, she has always held on to her mortal heart, as she and Raphael have held on to each other. Passionate and vibrant, they’ve built a life that has stood the test of time, growing ever stronger with each turn of the sun.
But change is coming—of a magnitude they could have never imagined—and it will forever alter the trajectory of their existence.
Even as they grapple with the cataclysmic shift in their personal lives, the Cadre of Ten, which has maintained a hard-won peace for centuries, begins to simmer with dangerous fault lines. The specter of madness looms in one archangel, the promise of war burns between two others, and in darkness far from mortal and immortal eyes stirs an ancient, slumbering power.
Suddenly, the future is terrifyingly uncertain . . . at the very moment that Elena and her archangel need to protect a treasure infinitely more precious than eternity.
I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.
I’ve been reading this series for more than a decade, it’s one of my favorites ever, it will always have a special place in my heart; Elena and Raphael are amongst my favorite book ships of all time, I love them, I followed their relationship for years, watched them find their balance as a couple, and now they are going to have a baby! And we’ll say goodbye to these characters that are such comfort characters for me. Story wise it’s time but I’m gonna cry all of my tears. A BABY!!!
I KNOW THAT NALINI WILL GIVE US A FINAL BOOK WITH ELENA AND RAPHAEL 💕💕💕 I’M READY FOR CRYING ALL MY TEARS (Illium and Adohan book give me last one book vibes, but knowing Nalini she couldn’t finish this series without a last one with the main couple)
Me reading the synopsis to this and then bursting into tears because it means Sara, Deacon and Zoe will have died and poor Elena... gahh!! I am not ready for this to be over!
I have so many feelings about this series 🥹 Both sad and excited to get to the end especially with Elena and Raphael who are my absolute favourite couple. I have been reading this series since 2012 🫨 and I have looked forward to reading each addition to the series every single year. It's going to be weird not having a new Guild Hunter novel waiting for me after 2026.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book!
I devoured the Guild Hunter series in the frame of two weeks (and I am currently re-reading for the hundredth time), and having the opportunity to read the final book months in advance was such a pleasure!
This was a perfect ending to such an amazing series. Although, it was not as action packed and suspenseful as the previous books, this story wrapped up an adventure that spanned 18 books and multiple lives - I enjoyed every word and emotion.
In the interest of not spoiling anything, I will not go into too much detail regarding the book. However, there are a few characters that I have written about below.
Semi-spoilers (nothing drastic)
This series is among my favorites and continued to keep me engaged until the bittersweet end. The final book took place 1000 years later. I most enjoyed seeing my two favorite characters, Elena and Raphael, develop throughout the series. Reading about their relationship in the final Guild Hunter book was wonderful, but the icing on the cake for me, was getting to read about all the side characters that I fell in love with throughout the series. The Seven are such important characters to me and reading about their relationships and seeing how close Illium remains close to all of them was such a gift.
Although Michaela is a character that took me by surprise in the later books (the jury is still out), she wound up being a character that I hoped to see again. This book did not disappoint. Her development was beautiful and her reunion with Gavriel was extremely emotional.
If you enjoyed the previous books in this series, then there is no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy this book as well!!
I really loved Elena and Raphael, and all the wonderful (side) characters. One of my favorite series, so I’m gutted to find that this is the last book, but also really looking forward to it.
Oh, the sadness of saying goodbye to this beloved series. Thank you, Nalini Singh, for giving us the perfect farewell.
As we have all been waiting for all these years, our favorite Archangel and his Hunter/Angel Made consort are finally going to have a super-parasite a/k/a a baby. It was nice to see that two millennia-old beings were plagued with fears and concerns about becoming parents just like the rest of us. Elena hasn't had nightmares about her mother and sisters for centuries but since she has become pregnant, her thoughts keep going back to her worst fear. Same with Raphael, his concern goes back to both is parents succumbing to madness. First his mother had to kill his crazed father and then she eventually left a young Raphael broken and bloody in a field. His concern is what if he too goes mad like his parents, who would be able to protect his child from a mad archangel?
While Elena and Raphael fret about what kind of parents they will be, the story bops around between the past and the future where Elena reminisces about the mortals in her life who are gone, especially her mother and her best friend, Sarah. We also spend time visiting those millennia-long friendships she has developed with vampire and angels over the course of the series. It becomes a nice blend of memories of old friends and those currently most important to Elena and Raphael. We also have some characters who will leave us and some who return for one last bow before the end.
The story isn't all kittens and rainbows and catching up with old friends. There are some tension-filled issues to be dealt with as well. The baby is showing mortal cells in their blood test so will the baby be mortal or immortal? Things between Illium and his father are becoming unbearable with his father threatening a war between the two. Will war break out? While everyone will certainly step in and back Illium, they can't step in until Aegaeon makes a move and as a much older archangel, he could do serious damage or even kill Illium before Raphael and the Cadre step in. And while Elena and Raphael are celebrating their bundle of joy, we also have the downside of immortality. Elena's brother-in-law has shown up--remember Beth's husband who changed to vampire before he knew Beth was incompatible--Harrison is now as old as Elena but he is succumbing to depression. He has been alive for centuries but no longer feels any desire to go on. His wife is long-dead as are his children and he no longer feels any connection to their descendants. Immortality seems like a great idea but days get longer and longer when there is nothing to look forward to. There aren't many ways for a suicidal vampire to die at his age and he seeks out Elena's help. Elena promised her sister to watch out for Harrison so she is doing everything she can think of to save him.
I also really liked that we also have the child being born about two-thirds into the story which allows us to spend a nice portion of this final story seeing how their baby grows into an adult and how Elena and Raphael take to parenting and how their extended family supports their family unit.
With 77 chapter, I had hoped this story would never end but too many of them told their part with only a few pages, and in the end, the end came way too soon. I did appreciate how each Chapter started with a quote from the various novels of the series, most of which I remembered.
This was our final time with our beloved characters and this story is definitely a love letter to the fans taking us back through the past and into an amazing future with our favorite couple as they become the perfect little family.
Received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Archangel's Eternity is the eighteenth and final instalment in the adult urban fantasy romance series, Guild Hunter. Written in third person POV the story brings Raphael and Elena, our Archangel of New York and human Guild Hunter turned angel Guild Hunter, to a close as a thousand years have passed and Elena and Raphael find themselves confronting one of the biggest journeys a family can take. Yet while a hard fought peace has graced their lives for so long there is something precarious on the horizon and together they must fight for a future uncertain...but one they are desperate to keep.
Okay I'm going to put this in spoilers right up front - for those wondering this book does have a large plot. I mean the synopsis alludes to it quite clearly but just in case.
This final journey is one of beauty and feels. Elena and Raphael may have lived over a thousand years together but the beauty of their passion and humanity comes from Elena's deep need to keep connected to her previous mortality. I loved exploring that with them as Elena has to face some of her traumas again while also dealing with an uncertainty immortality rarely offers. Raphael, too, must deal with something wholly out of his control and we can see how it taps into his past in ways he did not expect. They are there for each other throughout this journey and watching them together gave me all the feels. You will fall in love with them again.
His entire being pulsed with a love so deep that it had no name, no beginning, no ending. It just was.
In terms of spice I would place this book around 2 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. There are about 7 scenes that lead to spice with the first at around the 4% mark BUT there is a caveat. Some of the spice is very short and more of a reference to it. When spice does go into a bit more detail is it more romantic than explicit. I loved the passion of our two characters and the fun that their spice leads to. This couple is very happy and still in love after all the years. The casual intimacy also just had me each time!
Okay, the story. THE STORY! This book has probably little to no combat which is somewhat at odds with the rest of the whole series. There is still tension with archangels over territory and Sleep but the primary focus is a reflection of life and preparation of the future. Elena makes a lot of connections back to memories of her past, the past we know, but also moments in between the years that shows us a life lived. I liked seeing her process of coming to grips with things. I also really loved being able to connect with all the characters and their journeys to this point. We get to see references to all our beloved cast over the years and some character I truly wasn't expecting to see again but hit me with the feels in ways that led me to tear up. Family, both blood and found, are at the core of this book and that is something we see being tapped into again and again during periods of uncertainty. I would say I cried about twice while reading this. I felt for each moment of the journey and it went places I truly did not anticipate which was amazing because of the main trope. This is a book that really pays homage to this series with each POV we tap into and each moment of connection. The ending is bittersweet. I loved how it came together but I also am sad to see Raphael and Elena's journey come to a close. I truly hope to come back to this world in the future!
This book was truly a moving and emotional conclusion to a series that grips your heart long after you close the book. I am ever so grateful to have read Elena and Raphael and I will never forget.
Thank you so much Berkley Romance for sending me this e-ARC.
Although I was aware of this series since it came out around 2009 (I was immersed in the Christine Feehan Dark world and this series always was recommend to fans of that), I came to it late, and only started my Guild Hunter journey 2 years ago. I haven’t been here for the full 20-year journey, but I caught up quickly and completely fell in love with this world, reading every single book including the newsletter in-between shorts. This is a series I’ve genuinely enjoyed, and coming into this book therefore, felt bittersweet in the most beautiful way. I recognise that it’s time but also don’t necessarily feel ready to say goodbye to this world.
This book is absolutely one for the fans. What it lacks in the high drama of the rest of the series- no cataclysmic epic wars, no sweeping new conflicts, no explosive new relationships, no dramatic reckonings and misunderstandings- it more than makes up for in softness, intimacy, healing and heart. This story feels like a love letter to the series, to the guild hunter world, to the characters past and present, and to the readers who have walked beside them.
In thjs book, we get to see what becomes of our favourite characters. While this is a very Raphael and Elena- focused book (my favourite kind), the rest of the Cadre features and we’re given space to sit with everything they’ve endured through centuries of history, the Cascade, the wars, and see how it’s shaped them all a thousand years later. There is a sense of reflection and emotional resolution that wraps everything up in a way that feels earned and deeply satisfying after 18 books of action-packed drama.
I wouldn’t call this essential reading for someone new to the series, definitely don’t start here. Without the context of the long journey, it might feel too pastoral, as though nothing much happens. But for those of us who have loved these characters from book 1 especially the Raphael and Elena fans, this feels like the most beautiful extended epilogue to ever exist. Technically, you could read the first 3 books of this series and read this as an epilogue and it would I suppose work, but you would miss a lot of the nuance and the weight of certain references and characters, the Seven’s partners, the weight of what happened with Michaela, Cassandra, Caliane, and She Who Will Not Be Named, the war, and the Cascade that changed everything. The things that for longtime readers, make this novel such a joy to read.
Personally, I smiled almost the entire way through. This unusually breezy (for this series) read made my heart happy while still having enough depth, healing, nuance, wells-building to it that it felt consistent with the rest of the series. It almost made me grateful to the author for indulging mega fans of this series and writing this sort of conclusion to it. I can already see myself rereading it when it officially releases in May. It has automatic comfort read status, no notes, nothing I would change. It’s exactly what this series needed as a conclusion and I’m so glad we got it. This was such a pleasure to read.
I received an advanced reader copy of Archangel’s Eternity from the publisher via NetGalley, with no expectation of a favourable review. All opinions are genuine and my own.
I loved this book, as I do the entire series. This book is for the readers who’ve read the other entries in the series, because otherwise you’re missing out on the lovely connections and call backs to moments from those books. You’ll be missing out on why this book works the way it is if you haven’t read at least the Elena and Raphael books. Thank you so much Nalini for this series and these characters, I’ve loved their journeys from Angel’s Blood in 2009, no matter how bittersweet. Spoiler:
Nalini has a lovely note at the end of the book that really loved reading. Thank you so much Nalini.
Five stars for Archangel’s Eternity, the perfect conclusion to the stunning and captivating 18 book Guild Hunter series. This is a book written for Nalini Singh’s fans who have been with her on the journey in this world since the very first book, Angel’s Blood. This book provides a beautiful final tale in Elena and Raphael’s story that revisits old relationships, provides incredible insights into the lives and families of favorite characters, and fills your heart with happiness from the first page to the last.
Similar to the last several books in this series, Archangel’s Eternity opens with a large time jump from the last book, but small pieces of those missing years are provided in flashbacks and memories through the tale at the center of this book. Nalini Singh is a master at providing just the right glimpses into her various characters’ lives during those missing years, that the reader feels connected to that time and the characters in spite of this large jump.
Ultimately, I can’t say too much about the central story as it will immediately spoil several surprises the author has in store, so I will content myself with saying that if you are a long time fan of this series and love these characters as much as I do, you are sure to love this book. It’s sad to say goodbye to this world that has become so rich and vibrant over 18 books, but if ever a book said goodbye in the right way, this is that book. I hope Nalini Singh will continue to provide some short stories and glimpses of these beloved characters in the future, but if this is truly goodbye, then I feel happy with the journey we’ve had and am left imaging great things for our favorite characters off the page.
A huge thank you to Nalini Singh, Berkley, and NetGalley for the ARC.
Oh My God! OH MY GOD! If they are having a baby, this book can be the last book but Nalini needs to at least give us one more book. Even a short book of 100 pages will be good, like Book #18.5 , for looking into the future with Raphael and Elena with a Baby!! I want to see how Raphael handles a child as the warrior he is. I have not read the last two books that was released just so that I will have a bulk of books to read this holiday break, but now I am going to wait again for this to come out. I have been reading this series for basically 10 years now and it has been amazing. Everything makes me so happy. The whole dynamic is absolutely mind blowing and heart warming. I know the Guild hunter series needs to come to an end, but I’m not looking forward to it but if they are really having a baby pleasseeee!! Nalini don’t end this book on a cliffhanger because I might actually fling myself off a cliff, if I have to imagine what might or could happen.
This book has to be very long and has to end really well for it to be the last book but if it’s not the last book, I would be absolutely ecstatic . I really can’t wait now!!! I wanna see what’s gonna happen cause I have been patiently waiting to gather up enough pages to read during my free time and I have two books waiting. It hurts just waiting for books to be released but I know it’s gonna be worth it to have three books to cry my heart out if this series ends on this specific book.
Amazing. Brilliant. 10/10. No notes. THIS is how you end a series. A series that was already amazing book after book. But wow! Absolutely beautifully done. Easily one of, if not, the best of the series. I was so happy to get an early copy of this book and I literally spent the day reading it, I couldn’t put it down! The conclusion to Elena and Raphael’s story has arrived. And it’s everything you could want in a final story for them. If you can guess what this story is about based on the hints of the blurb, then know it’s so much more and even better. We truly follow their happy ending for a while and I loved seeing how so much played out. Elena and Raphael are on a whole new journey a thousand years after their story began. We see it all. We see everyone. You’ll laugh and cry and simply be unable to stop smiling. I loved this world from day one and as sad as I am to see it end. I will be thinking about this one for a while and will have to do a reread of the entire series in the near future. It was such a bittersweet read to know we were at the end yet so much happens in this story and I loved every moment of it. We catch up with all those we love and see countless happy endings while Elena and Raphael enter this new chapter in their lives. I think anyone who has loved this series from the beginning will be satisfied with its conclusion!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I remember starting this series when I first discovered the Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance genres. I was still in college and was using my library to borrow audiobooks. I fell in love with Elena and her badass self. I loved the rich world that Singh created with angels and vampires. Every time a new book came out, it would ramp up the tension, and I didn't think it was possible for things to get worse. Honestly, I wasn't sure where she was going to go after Archangel's War because that was the end of the major Big Bad, but she was able to give us interesting books dealing with the aftermath of war.
This book is nothing like her previous books. This a truly a novel-length epilogue and a love letter to her fans. This wraps up everything and gives us some closure. She may one day revisit the world, but for now, she gifted us with Raphael and Elena's happily ever after. I cried during parts because I have grown so attached to these characters, and I'm really sad to say goodbye.
My hope is that Singh revisits the Guild Hunter World with Marduke's era or with Phoenix as an archangel. I know she has wrapped up the story of Elena and Raphael, but I would love more side-character books. That's what has made this so difficult. You don't just love the main characters; you love everyone because Singh gave us incredible books, including the others. I haven't felt so sad about a series ending since Kate Daniels main series ended.
First, I have loved the GH series right from jump street. Nalini's invention of the angelic race with Arcs running the show and vampires as part of the world to keep angels sane, etc., is one of the greatest takes on the subject I've ever read. I hate that it's ending and would love a hundred more in the series.
I'm posting this just from the blurb we got in email a couple days ago and I have a question. She mentions there's some war simmering after a 1000 years have gone by and I'm curious about that. Didn't they end that need with the relic hunt and resynching with the help of the Aeclari couple with Raphael's ancestor pointing them in the right direction? It's been a while, of course so I could be misremembering some of it. Was that just to take away the nearly constant fighting between the archangels, and they'll still fight sometimes? But like this book's timing states, there can be a thousand years or more between archangelic wars? Or was finding the artifacts and going through that resynching "ceremony" just to halt the nightmare that was the most recent cascade?
I'm not looking for a ton of spoilers or anything - just a little clarification to help me remember more about Archangel's Resurrection. Thanks in advance!
Not only is this the 18th book in this series, it is the series finale. I did not know that until I received this ARC and saw it in the summary. This book also jumps forward in time 1000 years. Yep, you read that right.....one thousand years. That can definitely mess with your mind.
Anyway, this entire book felt like a present to loyal readers, giving us an ending to the storyline of Elena (Ellie) and the Archangel Raphael. We also get to see them become parents.
There really isn't a particular plot line, at least not like in the past like when there was a crazed, mad angel, or a cascade, or a war. No, this is really a long goodbye, tying up loose ends and setting the stage for the two of them to walk into the sunset.
I think that if this was someone's first entry into this series, it might not resonate as well, but for long time readers, it was perfect. Yes, a little mushy at times, but heck, for anyone who has followed along loyally for 18 books, it was just right.
Thank you Ms. Singh for an absolutely wonderful series.
Thank you also to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group | Berkley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This book will be out for publication on May 5, 2026.
