Elena and Raphael return for the hauntingly poignant conclusion to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s genre-defining Guild Hunter series.

A thousand years.

It’s been a millennium since Elena’s fateful first meeting with Archangel Raphael. She has survived war and loss, experienced beauty and cruelty. But no matter what, she has always held on to her mortal heart, as she and Raphael have held on to each other. Passionate and vibrant, they’ve built a life that has stood the test of time, growing ever stronger with each turn of the sun.

But change is coming—of a magnitude they could have never imagined—and it will forever alter the trajectory of their existence.

Even as they grapple with the cataclysmic shift in their personal lives, the Cadre of Ten, which has maintained a hard-won peace for centuries, begins to simmer with dangerous fault lines. The specter of madness looms in one archangel, the promise of war burns between two others, and in darkness far from mortal and immortal eyes stirs an ancient, slumbering power.

Suddenly, the future is terrifyingly uncertain . . . at the very moment that Elena and her archangel need to protect a treasure infinitely more precious than eternity.

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

I’ve been reading this series for more than a decade, it’s one of my favorites ever, it will always have a special place in my heart; Elena and Raphael are amongst my favorite book ships of all time, I love them, I followed their relationship for years, watched them find their balance as a couple, and now they are going to have a baby! And we’ll say goodbye to these characters that are such comfort characters for me. Story wise it’s time but I’m gonna cry all of my tears. A BABY!!!

P.S. The cover with Elena and Raphael 🥹

Review to come upon release - but be prepared, this one feels like one giant epilogue and doesn't have a very strong plot compared to the rest of the series. It's more... tying up loose ends and making sure we see the fruits of all the labor of the first 17 books and all that time and war and danger.

I have so many feelings about this series 🥹 Both sad and excited to get to the end especially with Elena and Raphael who are my absolute favourite couple. I have been reading this series since 2012 🫨 and I have looked forward to reading each addition to the series every single year. It's going to be weird not having a new Guild Hunter novel waiting for me after 2026.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book!

I devoured the Guild Hunter series in the frame of two weeks (and I am currently re-reading for the hundredth time), and having the opportunity to read the final book months in advance was such a pleasure!

This was a perfect ending to such an amazing series. Although, it was not as action packed and suspenseful as the previous books, this story wrapped up an adventure that spanned 18 books and multiple lives - I enjoyed every word and emotion.

In the interest of not spoiling anything, I will not go into too much detail regarding the book. However, there are a few characters that I have written about below.

Semi-spoilers (nothing drastic)

This series is among my favorites and continued to keep me engaged until the bittersweet end. The final book took place 1000 years later. I most enjoyed seeing my two favorite characters, Elena and Raphael, develop throughout the series. Reading about their relationship in the final Guild Hunter book was wonderful, but the icing on the cake for me, was getting to read about all the side characters that I fell in love with throughout the series. The Seven are such important characters to me and reading about their relationships and seeing how close Illium remains close to all of them was such a gift.

Although Michaela is a character that took me by surprise in the later books (the jury is still out), she wound up being a character that I hoped to see again. This book did not disappoint. Her development was beautiful and her reunion with Gavriel was extremely emotional.

If you enjoyed the previous books in this series, then there is no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy this book as well!!

I don't even know how to begin this review. An epic series with a finale that was so good and honestly, everything a fan of this series could have wanted. We got glimpses of most of the couples in this series but really, this was all about Elena and her beloved Archangel, Raphael. I don't want to give too much away but this book essentially spans a 100 years and also reflects on times gone by. At the start of this book, Elena is a thousand years old. Yep, the badass Guild Hunter we've all come to know and adore over the course of 18 books has spent a millennium as the mortal turned angel turned consort to Raphael. And what a life she has lived. This book is about grief over what's gone before, reveling in the present, and joyful anticipation of what's to come.

Without giving too much away, I want to talk about a couple of things that were standouts for me. First of all, this incredibly vivid world that Nalini built with such specificity and attention to details. It's gorgeous and brilliant and the continuity really works.

Secondly, the sense of found family, especially with Raphael and his Seven, even Illium who is now an Archangel in his own right. Speaking of Illium, is it too much to ask that if Nalini does a spin off series like she did with Psy-Changeling, that she focus on Illium's court. I know several key members of his court get their HEA's in passing in this book but I'd love to read more about him as an Archangel. (If Nalini wants to take a break from this world altogether, I can't begrudge her that either, she has more than earned it). But that sense of found family and the reaction from everyone about Elena and Raphael's news is just, gah, PERFECT. I loved it.

Third, the book doesn't shy away from grief, from the losses Elena has endured, from her family to her best friend Sara, who chose to stay a mortal. This part especially resonated with me because I was introduced to this series by my very good friend Melinda, who passed away 2 years ago. She never got to read the last few books in this series and the fact that she, someone who absolutely adored this series, doesn't get to see how it ends, is absolutely heart wrenching to me.

With this book, Nalini gives her many Guild Hunter fans the perfect ending to an absolutely epic series. This book is thematically lighter - there's some dark moments and the mere threat of war but no real violence and it honestly just feels like a slice of life story about Elena and Raphael, if that slice of life happened to occur over the course of a century. It's soft and tender and romantic and I don't have one single note of complaint about it.

ARC from publisher, review is all mine.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC!
And thank you Nalini Singh for all the tears over the years.

This book might as well be called "Loose Ends? What Loose Ends?" There are very few questions I am left with at the end, the only one I can think of I'll include in the spoiler section. I'll keep this part as spoiler free as possible and leave the spoilers below for freaks like me who like reading them lol.

I cried like the whole way through on this one I won't lie. I don't know how y'all are coping who have been reading since 2009, I've only been here since 2019 and I'm a wreck.

There's a significant time jump from the last time we were in a Elena and Raphael book and a bit of a jump from Illium's and a good chunk of this book is exploring what that looks like; who's around, what the Cadre's up to, who is trying to kill who, all that good stuff. Elena and Raphael go on a "tour" of sorts that felt like a bunch of scenes from a movie catching up on what's going on for both the characters and us the readers.

There is very little drama in Eternity, it is a very light and almost cozy book in comparison to the mutilation caused by Uram and Lijuan's zombies. It can't be easy ending a series you've spent 20 years writing, but I think this was a great send off for the series.

NOW SPOILER TIME DON'T CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS

Anyway this will remain one of my favourite series ever, thank you Nalini for all the entertainment throughout the years, from Blood to Eternity.

Oh, the sadness of saying goodbye to this beloved series. Thank you, Nalini Singh, for giving us the perfect farewell.

As we have all been waiting for all these years, our favorite Archangel and his Hunter/Angel Made consort are finally going to have a super-parasite a/k/a a baby. It was nice to see that two millennia-old beings were plagued with fears and concerns about becoming parents just like the rest of us.  Elena hasn't had nightmares about her mother and sisters for centuries but since she has become pregnant, her thoughts keep going back to her worst fear.  Same with Raphael, his concern goes back to both is parents succumbing to madness.  First his mother had to kill his crazed father and then she eventually left a young Raphael broken and bloody in a field. His concern is what if he too goes mad like his parents, who would be able to protect his child from a mad archangel?

While Elena and Raphael fret about what kind of parents they will be, the story bops around between the past and the future where Elena reminisces about the mortals in her life who are gone, especially her mother and her best friend, Sarah. We also spend time visiting those millennia-long friendships she has developed with vampire and angels over the course of the series. It becomes a nice blend of memories of old friends and those currently most important to Elena and Raphael. We also have some characters who will leave us and some who return for one last bow before the end.

The story isn't all kittens and rainbows and catching up with old friends. There are some tension-filled issues to be dealt with as well. The baby is showing mortal cells in their blood test so will the baby be mortal or immortal? Things between Illium and his father are becoming unbearable with his father threatening a war between the two. Will war break out?  While everyone will certainly step in and back Illium, they can't step in until Aegaeon makes a move and as a much older archangel, he could do serious damage or even kill Illium before Raphael and the Cadre step in. And while Elena and Raphael are celebrating their bundle of joy, we also have the downside of immortality.   Elena's brother-in-law has  shown up--remember Beth's husband who changed to vampire before he knew Beth was incompatible--Harrison is now as old as Elena but he is succumbing to depression. He has been alive for centuries but no longer feels any desire to go on. His wife is long-dead as are his children and he no longer feels any connection to their descendants. Immortality seems like a great idea but days get longer and longer when there is nothing to look forward to. There aren't many ways for a suicidal vampire to die at his age and he seeks out Elena's help. Elena promised her sister to watch out for Harrison so she is doing everything she can think of to save him.

I also really liked that we also have the child being born about two-thirds into the story which allows us to spend a nice portion of this final story seeing how their baby grows into an adult and how Elena and Raphael take to parenting and how their extended family supports their family unit.

With 77 chapter, I had hoped this story would never end but too many of them told their part with only a few pages, and in the end, the end came way too soon. I did appreciate how each Chapter started with a quote from the various novels of the series, most of which I remembered.

This was our final time with our beloved characters and this story is definitely a love letter to the fans taking us back through the past and into an amazing future with our favorite couple as they become the perfect little family.

5 - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"You are the best part of eternity, Elena-mine."

Archangel's Eternity is the eighteenth and final instalment in the adult urban fantasy romance series, Guild Hunter. Written in third person POV the story brings Raphael and Elena, our Archangel of New York and human Guild Hunter turned angel Guild Hunter, to a close as a thousand years have passed and Elena and Raphael find themselves confronting one of the biggest journeys a family can take. Yet while a hard fought peace has graced their lives for so long there is something precarious on the horizon and together they must fight for a future uncertain...but one they are desperate to keep.

Okay I'm going to put this in spoilers right up front - for those wondering this book does have a large plot. I mean the synopsis alludes to it quite clearly but just in case.

This final journey is one of beauty and feels. Elena and Raphael may have lived over a thousand years together but the beauty of their passion and humanity comes from Elena's deep need to keep connected to her previous mortality. I loved exploring that with them as Elena has to face some of her traumas again while also dealing with an uncertainty immortality rarely offers. Raphael, too, must deal with something wholly out of his control and we can see how it taps into his past in ways he did not expect. They are there for each other throughout this journey and watching them together gave me all the feels. You will fall in love with them again.

His entire being pulsed with a love so deep that it had no name, no beginning, no ending. It just was.

In terms of spice I would place this book around 2 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. There are about 7 scenes that lead to spice with the first at around the 4% mark BUT there is a caveat. Some of the spice is very short and more of a reference to it. When spice does go into a bit more detail is it more romantic than explicit. I loved the passion of our two characters and the fun that their spice leads to. This couple is very happy and still in love after all the years. The casual intimacy also just had me each time!

Okay, the story. THE STORY! This book has probably little to no combat which is somewhat at odds with the rest of the whole series. There is still tension with archangels over territory and Sleep but the primary focus is a reflection of life and preparation of the future. Elena makes a lot of connections back to memories of her past, the past we know, but also moments in between the years that shows us a life lived. I liked seeing her process of coming to grips with things. I also really loved being able to connect with all the characters and their journeys to this point. We get to see references to all our beloved cast over the years and some character I truly wasn't expecting to see again but hit me with the feels in ways that led me to tear up. Family, both blood and found, are at the core of this book and that is something we see being tapped into again and again during periods of uncertainty. I would say I cried about twice while reading this. I felt for each moment of the journey and it went places I truly did not anticipate which was amazing because of the main trope. This is a book that really pays homage to this series with each POV we tap into and each moment of connection. The ending is bittersweet. I loved how it came together but I also am sad to see Raphael and Elena's journey come to a close. I truly hope to come back to this world in the future!

This book was truly a moving and emotional conclusion to a series that grips your heart long after you close the book. I am ever so grateful to have read Elena and Raphael and I will never forget.

Thank you so much Berkley Romance for sending me this e-ARC.

Although I was aware of this series since it came out around 2009 (I was immersed in the Christine Feehan Dark world and this series always was recommend to fans of that), I came to it late, and only started my Guild Hunter journey 2 years ago. I haven’t been here for the full 20-year journey, but I caught up quickly and completely fell in love with this world, reading every single book including the newsletter in-between shorts. This is a series I’ve genuinely enjoyed, and coming into this book therefore, felt bittersweet in the most beautiful way. I recognise that it’s time but also don’t necessarily feel ready to say goodbye to this world.

This book is absolutely one for the fans. What it lacks in the high drama of the rest of the series- no cataclysmic epic wars, no sweeping new conflicts, no explosive new relationships, no dramatic reckonings and misunderstandings- it more than makes up for in softness, intimacy, healing and heart. This story feels like a love letter to the series, to the guild hunter world, to the characters past and present, and to the readers who have walked beside them.

In thjs book, we get to see what becomes of our favourite characters. While this is a very Raphael and Elena- focused book (my favourite kind), the rest of the Cadre features and we’re given space to sit with everything they’ve endured through centuries of history, the Cascade, the wars, and see how it’s shaped them all a thousand years later. There is a sense of reflection and emotional resolution that wraps everything up in a way that feels earned and deeply satisfying after 18 books of action-packed drama.

I wouldn’t call this essential reading for someone new to the series, definitely don’t start here. Without the context of the long journey, it might feel too pastoral, as though nothing much happens. But for those of us who have loved these characters from book 1 especially the Raphael and Elena fans, this feels like the most beautiful extended epilogue to ever exist. Technically, you could read the first 3 books of this series and read this as an epilogue and it would I suppose work, but you would miss a lot of the nuance and the weight of certain references and characters, the Seven’s partners, the weight of what happened with Michaela, Cassandra, Caliane, and She Who Will Not Be Named, the war, and the Cascade that changed everything. The things that for longtime readers, make this novel such a joy to read.

Personally, I smiled almost the entire way through. This unusually breezy (for this series) read made my heart happy while still having enough depth, healing, nuance, wells-building to it that it felt consistent with the rest of the series. It almost made me grateful to the author for indulging mega fans of this series and writing this sort of conclusion to it. I can already see myself rereading it when it officially releases in May. It has automatic comfort read status, no notes, nothing I would change. It’s exactly what this series needed as a conclusion and I’m so glad we got it. This was such a pleasure to read.

I received an advanced reader copy of Archangel’s Eternity from the publisher via NetGalley, with no expectation of a favourable review. All opinions are genuine and my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for the arc.

I loved this book, as I do the entire series. This book is for the readers who’ve read the other entries in the series, because otherwise you’re missing out on the lovely connections and call backs to moments from those books. You’ll be missing out on why this book works the way it is if you haven’t read at least the Elena and Raphael books. Thank you so much Nalini for this series and these characters, I’ve loved their journeys from Angel’s Blood in 2009, no matter how bittersweet.
Spoiler:

Nalini has a lovely note at the end of the book that really loved reading. Thank you so much Nalini.

Series: Guild Hunter #18
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

“What a journey we’ve been on, Archangel.”

After 18 books, the Guild Hunter series is at an end and what a beautiful and happy ending this was! Instead of giving us a short happily ever after novella, Singh has given us a 400+ page novel showcasing Raphael and Elena’s futures and the surprises it brings.

This book starts with Elena celebrating her 1000th birthday, which is around 300 years since Illium ascended. So much has changed in the world and we see her reflecting on the changes, the losses, and also the happiness she has experienced. But this birthday will change everything for her and Raphael because they are going through the next phase of their life together. This was a beautiful story that really showcased the strength of Elena and Raphael's love, and to work together to overcome anything, including old traumas and fears.

The world has changed so much since the War of the Death Cascade. The Cadre has been at full capacity for a while now but we see tensions starting to build again. Two Cadre members end up going back to sleep and a war is potentially building again. The thing that I really enjoyed about this book, even if it was sad at times, was seeing how people’s futures played out, not just Raphael and Elena’s. We learn about couples who are still together, their children, and new relationships that have happened. Also who became a vampire and how that is going for them. It was just great seeing how this world and the people within it have changed, or not changed, since the end of the war.

Overall, this was a very happy ending for this long running series. I enjoyed finally seeing Raphael and Elena’s HEA, along with everyone else. My only complaint was that because there was no action, and this was very slice of life at times, it felt like a very long book for me. But I still really enjoyed it. I am sad this series is ending but I think it's a good time for it.

TW: PTSD and nightmares; violent death of siblings and mother referenced; death of family members referenced; grief; suicidal character who requests assisted dying; pregnancy and childbirth; death of a child referenced;

3.5 stars - Reviewed for Wit and Sin

It’s been a thousand years since a human Guild Hunter crossed swords with an enigmatic archangel. Neither Elena nor Raphael could have imagined the turns their lives have taken since that first meeting. And readers, since first picking up Angels’ Blood, could not have guessed the wild ride Nalini Singh would take them on through eighteen full-length novels. Archangel’s Eternity brings the Guild Hunter series to a close in a sweet, satisfying way.

While there have been many wonderful characters and romances throughout this series, Raphael and Elena are at the heart of it all, so it’s fitting that the series end with them. I enjoyed seeing how their love has grown and stays strong over not just decades but a millennium. Now they have a new adventure to face and though it’s not hard to guess what that is, I’ll leave it for readers to discover. Suffice it to say that it’s delightful and brings them new challenges and even greater happiness.

Archangel’s Eternity is light on plot, serving mostly as a love letter to the series and the vast and varied cast of characters Singh brought to life. There is some tension with a potential war brewing between two archangels and simmering madness in another, but nothing like what we’ve seen throughout this series. I admit, the first half of the book was slow for me. As much as I adore all the characters, the step-by-step visits felt a little. Things did pick up in the latter half of the story; it brimmed with life, love, and even a few moments that made me tear up. All in all, I found this to be a lovely end to the Guild Hunter series. Singh started the series with blood and ends it with joy; a wonderful bow to tie up all the angels, vampires, and other beings readers have come to know and love.

Archangel Raphael and his Consort Elena have been together an almost unimaginable one thousand years. They were united in a time of strife and stress while almost losing each other in the period known as the Cascade of Death; the Archangel and his Hunter have only grown closer and vastly happier in these last centuries of peace. Elena has had to deal with the loss of all of her mortal family and friends while welcoming, and working to maintain, a close relationship with each new generation connected to them in the past millennia. Raphael and Elena are living their best lives; however, the passage of time has not been totally devoid of trouble, and now, some Archangels of the Cadre of ten are stirring with one of them on the brink of madness. They and their allies must work against what may become another cataclysmic fallout.

Not only do Raphael and Elena have that to deal with this new worrisome anxiety, but an event occurs in their own lives which will forever alter them and most likely, will make certain readers deliriously happy. The changes in New York and the world are fascinating to imagine. This brave new world is enjoyable to see while catching up on all of our favorites and how their lives are playing out. At the heart of this story, as it has been since the very beginning, is the unshakeable, everlasting love between Raphael and Elena.

Ms. Singh has done a fine job of bringing together multiple elements in this long running series which will greatly satisfy fans and leave them with a heart full of bittersweet love and perhaps, wanting just a little more. In this story, many of readers’ beloved characters from this series are there to offer a glimpse into this eternal future. This book at number eighteen in the series is in some aspects a love letter from Ms. Singh to her fans and the characters who have become an integral part of her life as well as those of her readers. While it may not be quite wild ride of some of the past books with one exception, it is most certainly a heartfelt bookend to the series.

I cannot believe that this series has reached its (amazing, incredible, heartfelt) conclusion. Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series is the one that introduced me to romance as a genre—the first book given to me by my Sara—and literally changed my life.

That’s not hyperbole. Because of this series, I picked up Singh’s other PNR series, Psy-Changeling, and when I ran out of those—there were about nine at the time—I hunted down more and more and more romance books. Before I knew it, I was working for a book blog, writing books, making graphics and formatting books for some truly wonderful authors. Along the way, I made new friends in a new country, friends I cherish and yap to all day, every day. (And my bestie? She still gets every single thought downloaded from half a world away.)

Now, more than a decade later, I have a job I love, friends I adore, and a full heart from reading an exceptional series finale.

Archangel’s Eternity is a love letter. To family, to romance, to friendship, and to the loyal readers of this author. It moves easily through time, reminiscing about adventures and wars past, mortals lost, and new relationships built. Pretty much everyone you can imagine makes an appearance in this book—cameos upon cameos letting us know that the passing of a millennium doesn’t mean forgetting but remembering. Growing and changing and loving in new and different ways. I couldn't put it down.

It’s highly emotional for someone who has lived with this series and these characters for years. Through the highs and the lows. Be prepared to cry multiple times, and over some unexpected things, no less. Read this book with tissues… and then go back to the beginning if you want, because although the series is over, the stories are eternal. And life-changing.
