Shadows of Frost

Book two in Angels of Half-light.

The Shadow Master and his conniving apprentice, Elizabeth, have retreated… for now.

With zero time to catch their breath, Tesla and most of her faction find themselves staring down a calamitous nightmare.
Can they wrangle The Snake back into her bag of tricks, fangs and all, before they lose sanity, life and each other?

In a perpetual snow globe abyss where night evades and days are a bleak tundra, unimaginable dangers brew; death has a whole new meaning.

Will the forest welcome them, promising rest and resolution? Or have the talons of darkness reached even this promised safe haven?
No matter how far from the digesting heart of the city they flee; secrets follow, shadows rampage and a monumental betrayal threatens to cleave them into pieces.

The elders have lost all backbone, neighbouring factions remain silent, and Tesla’s emotions are on the verge of shredding her apart. No one said she would have to choose between her “supposed” path, her found family, and the… waiting arms of —
There is no sense, only survival; end Elizabeth before she ends them.

*Trigger warning: frequent violence, brief torture, dark themes.

Emma Karolina

Emma has always lived for words. From a young age, she was creating magical characters across the globe in message-board role-playing games; this was her first taste of the wonders of writing.
She found herself lost in the dance of text and how expressive she could be, delighting in lyrical descriptors that made her heart both sing and melt into tears.
Intrigued by the battle of love, loss and darkness, Emma finds herself drawn to create series that revolve around the complex feelings and traumas that can plague us; unwrapping the coarse lies we tell ourselves to find that inner truth.

When Emma isn’t writing she works in the thriving BC film industry as a background performer, this gives her “extra” time to mull over story ideas and opportunities to experience unique and captivating visual settings -- keeping the inspiration alive!

Like with Emma Karolina's first book, Shadows of Dreams, I couldn't put this second book down. I was captivated and enthralled. The mystery, intrigue, betrayal, and tension kept me voraciously reading.
And of course will Tesla and Daniel finally resolve the tension and obvious attraction they have for one another!? I wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into the two of them!
Emma Karolina is such an excellent writer. And I love also the overall theme of good versus evil, something we all struggle with in one form or another throughout our lives, as well as our confusion with where the line is.....this is also captured so well in this story.
I highly recommend reading this book and of course Emma Karolina's first novel if you haven't already: Shadows of Dreams.

Action, romance, epic views and cozy comforts! A team of heros that kept me laughing and crying with multiple points of view, and a villian I love to hate. Shadows of Frost brought it all! Not only am I excited for the next book, but I can't wait to discover more about these characters who's stories I've fallen in love with.

Shadows of Frost? More like Shadows of Rip-My-Heart-Out. Tesla’s stuck in a frozen hellscape where the Snake lurks, Elizabeth schemes, and betrayal comes gift-wrapped with a big fat bow. Every time I thought I could breathe, Emma Karolina smirked and said, “Nope.”

Tesla is messy and impossible not to root for. She’s torn between protecting her faction and surviving her darkness, and the weight of those choices is shattering. Add the savage winter setting that seeped under my skin, enough to make me shake.

The villains could teach a masterclass in psychological warfare. The Snake coils in the background, patient and calculating, until the exact moment to strike. Elizabeth plays the long game with manipulation. Chapters become lessons on breaking a person without spilling blood.

This book is brutal, beautiful, and addictive. Shadows of Frost hits hard. Emma Karolina takes everything from Shadows of Dreams and raises the stakes. Think darker, colder, and more gut-wrenching.

I can finally take a breath.🥵

Tesla and Daniel are back at it, in this nail biting follow-up adventure. In their plight to free the world of the demon's rampaging it and protect what remains of a crumbling civilization Elizabeth hits them with everything she has. Under the control of her evil master, there are tiny teasing glimpses that Elizabeth might be more than she appears. Alas, my impatient human must wait for the next book for more.

I love the devotion shared between the members of the found angel family, their fierce loyalty forms the backbone of this book. If you love immersive world building, characters who suffer only to rise to the occasion again and again, betrayal, heartbreak and love...pick up Emma's second book in her Angels of Half-light series. It will steal your breath.

Huge praise for Shadows Of Frost, book 2 in the Angels of Half-light series.

The moment I finished Shadows of Dreams, book 1, I was upset because I had to wait for book 2. But the wait was so so worth it.
Shadows of Frost starts where Shadows of Dreams ends, and from page one, I was insta hooked.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The battle scenes between the angels and demons were next level.

One thing this wonderful author does so well is make the reader fall in love with all of her characters, but you can't relax because you never know what was going to happen to them.

Edge of your seat reading. I kid you not!

From book one, there's a budding relationship between the two main characters, Daniel, the MMC, and Tesla, the FMC, and it carries on into book 2. I lived for the scenes between Daniel and Tesla. This is a slow burn romance, and there were times I yelled at the book saying, "OMG, just kiss already."
😆 That's how invested I was in this book--in these characters.

We also learn more about Elizabeth, the villianess. We find out who she's really after and why. This was absolutely fantastic, and added yet another layer to this awesome book--this series.

I won't spoil the story, but just know, I wish I could talk about specific scenes.
😆 But I can't and I won't.

The ghost child from Shadows of Dreams makes an appearance in Shadows of Frost, and we find out more of who she is to Tesla.

This is a massive 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 read for me. And I highly recommend this series to all.

“Shadows of Frost”author Emma Karolina’s Second book in the “Angels of Half-light” series is an exciting urban fantasy/paranormal fantasy. Beautifully descriptive and powerful writing while the story is a heart-pounding and emotional read that will have you holding your breath.

To explain, Tesla, the main female character, is a re-incarnated earth-bound angel who awakens in this world, tasked with being a warrior against the dark forces. She fights alongside the other earth angels who are her found family. In book two the fight continues (is greatly amped up!) with the demonic forces still on a rampage and a threat to all in existence. However, there is a specific villain who is truly horrifying and honestly makes my blood boil! I was on the edge of my seat, so to speak, with this one. I also enjoyed the romance being amped up too. Emma is a truly exceptional writer. There’s so much more I could say but I don’t want to add spoilers, so I’ll leave it here and simply say: Wow! You did it again! If you haven’t read this series yet and you enjoy paranormal fantasy/urban fantasy, I highly recommend it.

Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I am in awe of Emma Karolina's second book, Shadows of Frost. Book two picks up where we left our heroes in book one. Tesla has become ensnared in a clever scheme of Elizabeth's and has to find her way to escape. This book is not only action-packed, but it draws beautifully on the themes of friendship, emotions and love.

Emma has a poetic flair for world building. Her descriptions of time and place lend beautifully to the over all feel of the novel, the angels vs demons, the cold, hellish landscape of the the dreamscape and the difference of the cold wintry beauty of the earthly landscape. The differences are as stark as night and day.

The action is epic. The fight and battle scenes draw you into a tension filled arena, leaving you wondering who will make it and who will survive. The emotional toll and the discovery, along with an angsty, 'will-they-wont-they' romance, had me enraptured and ensnared from the beginning.

Be prepared for some shocks. But what an amazing and thrilling second book in this series. I can't wait for book three!

If you thought Book 1 - Shadows of Dreams was action-packed, you've seen nothing yet! Shadows of Frost kept me on my toes from start to finish. I finished it yesterday morning, and I'm still thinking about it. Haven't been able to start another book yet. We get answers to so many questions this time around, but there's still so much left unanswered. I NEED BOOK 3 LIKE... YESTERDAY! Shadows of Frost made me feel so many emotions at once, and I can't believe how quickly I read it. I want more!

I loved the first book and had been waiting what felt like forever for the second, and it exceeded all my expectations! From the very first page, I was swept into the whirlwind of danger, tension, and raw emotion surrounding Tesla and her found family. The stakes feel higher, the world darker, and the twists and turns in this second book are exploding.

The arch of Tesla, is mesmerizing, she shine even brighter amidst the chaos. Tesla’s growth, her resilience, and her quiet moments of vulnerability make her journey unforgettable. Her courage, vulnerability, and fierce loyalty make every choice she faces feel deeply personal, and I found myself holding my breath through every confrontation, every whispered secret, every impossible moment threatening to tear them apart.

The relationship dynamics in this book are electric, layered, and heart-wrenching. You feel the weight of trust and betrayal and the fragility of bonds tested under pressure. The emotional depth is staggering; I laughed, I was surprised, mad, and I sat on the edge of my seat wondering how Tesla would navigate yet another impossible situation.

I have to confess that slow-burn romance isn’t usually my preference, I read fast-paced stories. However, Emma Karolina masterfully executes it here! The tension between Tesla and Daniel kept me on edge, and the unexpected interruptions whenever they seemed about to take one more step only added to the excitement. The inner battles of these characters intertwine seamlessly with the external quest, creating a world of shadows where every relationship, every choice, carries weight. Their connection is so engaging and captivating that I couldn’t put the book down until I devoured it.

Emma Karolina’s writing style is lyrical, and some descriptions feel almost like poetry. Her narrative is clear yet immersive, making it easy for the reader to visualize every setting and each character as if watching a movie. The world-building is dark, unforgiving, and hauntingly beautiful. This level of detail brings the story to life in a way that is both vivid and deeply emotional.

The ending delivered plenty of surprises, closing some subplots while leaving many questions that make me desperate for the next book.

I highly recommend Shadows of Frost to all who love a story that keeps your heart racing. Dark romance readers, lovers of demons and angels, strong female main character and unexpected twits this book is for you!
