A wrecked German bomber...key to the secrets of the Third Reich?
All it took was one phone call and TV show host and archaeologist Annja Creed is in mortal danger. Her producer Doug Morrell has been abducted by a greedy treasure hunter who's seeking the lost raubgold, or looted gold of Nazi Germany. The terms are simple: retrieve the bounty and Doug lives. Fail, and he dies...
Now Annja and her friends must find a missing German fighter plane that was shot down over the Alps in 1945. According to legend, the aircraft not only holds a shipment of gold the Nazis had stolen, but also carried the last letters of the führer himself. Letters that point to a more startling treasure buried underwater halfway around the world. But Annja isn't interested in treasure, or even unearthing historic relics. Annja has one agenda: get Doug out alive...even if it means drawing her sword from its otherworldly sheath. Even if it means death.
Because once greed drives a man to violence, nothing will stop him...
A house name for the Rogue Angel series, published by the Harlequin Publishing's Gold Eagle division.
The first eight novels were written by Victor Milan and Mel Odom. New writers joining the series starting with book nine include Jon Merz and Joseph Nassise.
Annja is on vacation with her boyfriend of six months, Paul (minor quibble is why he's never been mentioned before. How much time has passed in the series anyway?) when she gets an urgent call from her producer, Doug. He's been kidnapped by someone who wants her to track down a Nazi plane that crashed at the end of WWII. She pulls in Garin for help, and ends up on a chase for first Nazi gold (the Hungarian gold that may have recently been discovered in a train side-tunnel in the mountains), and then a lost Nazi base.
There were a few quibbles, as expected (I'm sorry, but there is no way that a man in his nineties -- which the Nazi would have to be -- is going to be walking anywhere after being shot), but I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
And now there are only two books left to come before the series disappears forever (presumably)
The Rogue Angel books are like episodes of old television series in that no matter what happens in the current adventure, things are going to be re-set by the end so that the next adventure will pick up with pretty much the same slate. Also like those old shows, there are, of course, very good episodes and really bad episodes. Despite an abrupt ending that was a distinct let down (probably because they all have to be the exact same length, continuing the television comparison), this was one of the best of Annja's adventures I've read. You've got betrayal and Nazis and treasure hunting and an Indiana Jones-paced series of escapades and a submarine and a volcano.... all kinds of cool stuff! A very good couple of hours of pulpy reading.
Good ol' graphic novel goodness. I love these audiobooks because it's so easy to sit back, let your higher brain functions go into standby, and enjoy the ride. This is my first of this series. It wasn't bad, but there are other GA series I'm more interested in.
Gives Tomb Raider vibes! The first I've read of his books, and I loved it! I bought a few more of his books to read, and can't wait! - looks like the books in this series are each a stand alone... you don't have to read them in order...
Pretty good. This story gives a better depiction of Annja's feelings for her boss, Doug. He was kidnapped so that Annja would be forced to find hidden treasures, etc as ransom.
