This review is for all the books in the series up to and including this one.
Since I'm still reading, I obviously like something about this series. But I'm sorry to say it's not the characterization. Most of the time, I find Rebecca annoying at best and ridiculous at worst. What's really disappointing, however, is that I barely know the supporting cast at all. Kenji is a black box most of the time, and other than assuming he's going to be heroic, I have no idea how he will react or how he feels about anything (including Rebecca). Similarly, Jack and Maria are predictably consistent in being cowardly unless it involves saving one of their own, in which case they become inexplicably brave.
What is interesting, however, is how the as time goes on. I think that's the real reason I keep coming back for more. I'm dying for some kind of explanation as to how the virus is .
My last observation is that you can tell this book is not written by an American or a woman, despite the fact that the main character is supposed to be both of those things. In American, we don't call a flashlight a torch. Never have; never will. Also, the idea that we've made it through six books without Rebecca reading the letter Kenji gave her is simply ridiculous. Teenage girls are obsessive about the boys they like. There is no way anyone will ever convince me she wouldn't have read the letter, reread the letter, and read it over and over again until it disintegrated while she dissected every possible meaning of every possible word in it...
This story has you hook line and sinker! I have read a lot of cliff hangers but the cliffhanger at the end of this one has me gripping my seat. Can’t wait to read the next one
