these lil issues always shock me with how quick and twisty and good they are. this one continues to live up to expectations!!

monica is running off the rails with this one! i was shocked that she really ended up dressing up as a home inspector to get into nigel’s old house and just maybe find stuff that would lead to her finding her brother. i thought she would have more sense than that. she is insane committed

then we got this spry turtle character that is actually 72… what direction are we going when we keep flashing back to him?

all in all samantha is truly coming out like an evil genius, but this isn’t in a likable way for me. samantha just has the urge to kill. for fun for boredom for inherent desire? idk. but im glad the focus is more on monica now because im so rooting for her. her struggle is one of redemption and revenge and justice. samantha can save it with all her orchestrating people to act certain ways or do certain things.

This issue didn’t have any action till the ending. I still don’t get Samantha’s angle with Monica. Is she just toying with her for the fun of it?

Searching inside a home for something left behind by a killer but will it lead to victims bodies or buried treasure?

Monica, what the hell are you doing.

This quote largely sums up Monica's portion of the plot line for this issue. She's been manipulated by Sam to enter the former home of Nigel to search for clues, and this act has disastrous consequences for the homeowners.

Meanwhile Sam is cool as a cucumber and hanging out birdwatching (both actual birds and Monica the duck), and calmly seeing what she's managed to set in motion. She lucks out when Monica overlooks a key clue to who actually killed Daniel.

Elsewhere we see Bertie getting addicted to internet chatrooms, the seniors at the old folks home being neglected, and Pauline struggling with depression induced drug abuse.

Horvath doesn't waste his panels on superfluous details, so I know that whatever is going on with the groups outside of the Sam vs. Monica plot line will come into play in the final two issues. I eagerly await the reveal.

Issue four of the spinoff Rite of Passage to the original series Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is simply genius in the way that all of the others. Samantha is calm, cool, and collected so even when she's alongside Monica, the duck trying to figure out what happened to her brother, it's the thrill and the game that is what keeps her going. Monica screws up in searching for clues but Samantha knows exactly the kinds of moves to make.

This series is the absolute most intelligent, creative, dark, and visceral comic in the same way I fell for Swan Song.

Rite of Spring #4 tightens the screws on an already tense sequel, pushing the “cozy horror” vibe into something rawer and more desperate without losing the soft, storybook surface that makes this series so unsettling. The issue really leans into the idea that the scariest person in Woodbrook is also the calmest one in the room, which makes every page feel like a quiet threat.

A flash read, this one. Somehow it felt shorter than before but it still packed a punch.
It was mostly me screaming and banging the car window as I saw everything unfurl in front of my eyes.

As always I'm kept at the edge of my seat, so I hope everyone else is too.

So Monica is ready to maybe kill someone and then flee to keep the box she just find in the house but after that she doesn’t take the time to look closely at what’s inside ? Sorry but this was implausible for me

The game goes on

Samantha flirts with being found out by leading her victim's sister to one clue after another. Is she self destructive or is it just a game? In other ways she's still the same stone cold killer hiding in plain sight.

Another great issue. This got tense right at the end! Our little plan almost got ruined! But it seems we finally have a lead on the next step. Can't wait for more!

Samantha is taking to psychological torture pretty easily. I fear she’s unlocked a new mode of terror! The scariest part is the old turtle guy getting addicted to the Internet.

Really good.

It just gets crazier and crazier. I don't know how this is going to end, but I can't take the suspense! I love this character so much. Give me more and more!

I'm facing a moral quandary. On one hand, this psycho bear b*tch is stressing me and I want her caught. On the other, I want more mini-series of "Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees".
