In a world where angels and demons walk among us, Natalie Zeniek believed she was just an ordinary girl. As her 18th birthday approaches, mysterious events begin to unfold in her life. With her eyes opened to a hidden reality, she finds herself in the midst of a war that has raged for over four hundred years. Malevolent beings bring chaos, while angels risk their very existence to protect her. Receiving unexpected help from an angel hunter, who battles against his own nature to stand by her side, she must seek the truth. This is the beginning of a saga where everything you know pales in comparison to what exists beyond heaven and hell.
Dan Vecchi, a Brazilian author born in Londrina, began his literary journey while working as an English teacher. In 2012, he published the first edition of his debut novel with a Brazilian publisher, later releasing a second edition through Kindle Direct Publishing in 2015.
Now based in London, Dan is preparing to launch the third edition of Beyond Heaven and Hell in both English and Portuguese, making it available worldwide via KDP. This newly revised version invites new readers into the captivating universe he created, while allowing longtime fans to revisit and relive the story they have cherished for years.
A young adult book about a young woman who falls in love with a demon. Demons are outraged at their relationship, and two cruel demons hunt Natalie and her Carsten relentlessly. Angels are protecting Natalie; they try to block the demons' devious plans.
The book is enjoyable, and the plot moves well. Secondary characters could be developed more.

This book follows the FMC Natalie, who is more often than not seen with her friend Kelly. Unbeknownst to Natalie, she discovers she can see Angels, and no-one else around her can. Do they think shes crazy? Sick? Maybe. She constantly keeps fainting and is worrying her mother. I had my suspicions from the beginning, was Natalie a Nephilim?..
Her father is dead, was he perhaps and Angel? If so, does her mother know, or did her mother never know? So many questions. From my assumptions at the beginning Carsten was the baby boy from the start of the book? And clearly knew nothing about his past. But does others? I had an instant dislike to Kathrine (what is it about everything Kathrine? I even hated Kathrine from the vampire diaries 🥷🤣) ...
Throughout the book Dan's descriptions and writing are done impeccably, everything is so vividly descripted, and you really can visualise what you are reading!! Doctor Reik, seemed abit off to me from his first introduction...fishy.. okay then its explained further in. So i was right to be suspicious 🤷♀️😮💨🤣
Also. The trauma Natalie must feel with everything that happens around her, it makes you feel so bad for the FMC, you just wanna cuddle her and tell her wtfs going on.
Plot 5/5 Character building 5/5 World building 5/5
Overall, this did take me longer than usual to read due to migraine issues. But when I did read it. I binged so much of it at once it actually only took 2 or 3 sittings which usually would have been 1 whole sitting!! Im super excited and hope there is more books to come.
Thank you do the Author - Dan, and Beth from the Wings & Words community for giving me access to this re-release of Beyond Heaven and Hell.
The nostalgia I got from this book.... I LOVED it!
In the story of Beyond Heaven and Hell, you follow Natalie a young girl approaching the age of 18, but the closer she gets to her birthday, the more mysterious things happen, and it has her questioning if the world she grew up in is really what it seems to be. With the help of her friends, and a stranger who shows up in her time of need. Can Natalie over come the obsticals standing in her way to unvail the truth behind this war between heaven and hell.
“Close to you, I feel like I can’t control my body.” and “I am being punished...... because I cannot stay away from you.” are some of my favourite quotes from the book.
If you love books about Angels, demons and all things celestial you need to read this book, I read it in 1 day, only reason I put it down was to make food, even then all I could think about was my theories of what I thought was going to happen next.
Dan! Really? Another story that is leaving me with so much action and no more roadway to put my feet down on. How long are you going to keep me waiting because I'm ready to reading now.
There is a large cast of characters in this battle between heaven and hell with Natalie leading the way. Apparently, no one is safe and Dan enjoys keeping us guessing. Just when you think there's going to be a lull, the story gets wound back up again. There is so much happening and unfolding. I look forward to the continuation of Natalie, Carsten, and the gangs' story.
omg this book was not what I was expecting i loved all the angels and demons this book follows Natalie who turns 18 and starts to see demons and angels after a death at a petrol station one night she meets Carsten who feels a pull towards Natalie he begins to be were ever Natalie is the deaths in this book is ment to break Natalie who in the end finds out she is something devin carsten is charged with taking her away to Dolton brother to keep her safe when they are attacked and the last thing is Natalie screaming for carsten
Thank you to Beth at Wings & Words for sending me the e-arc book of Beyond Heaven and Hell by Dan Vecchi.
I did like the storyline of the book however I did feel like the pacing was abit slow up until about 60% of the book then the action definitely picked up! There are still a lot of unanswered questions like what kind of power did Natalie have? Was she an angel or just a human? And Where did her brother, Nick, Johnathan and Lily disappear to?
I did also like the character art within the book! 🪽🐈⬛
It is a young adult novel that I enjoyed reading. It kept me entertained on my break at work. And at home in between life. I enjoyed the plot the most, it is fast paced and it is well written. I like the characters too. You may enjoy it as well.
4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 0 🫑. As one of the original version readers I rated this 3.5 stars. The story had real potential and I wanted primarily more descriptions and character relationship depth for improvement.
Dan went away and achieved exactly this! From as soon as chapter 5 I could see a huge improvement to the writing flow, environmental and character descriptors and world building.
The atmosphere from these changes was much improved and we still had that underlying mystery and intrigue that I loved from the first time reading. I even liked Dorah, Natalie’s mum much more in this version! 🤣
I am truly excited to see where this series is headed and I commend author Dan Vecchi for his dedication and hard work to polish this unique take on heaven and hell.
I am so excited for the next book: Exodus! That cliffhanger has me itching for more.
This book was kindly sent via a review campaign from the author and the Wings & Words community. All views are honest, my own and have been left voluntarily.
this was such an amazing read the characters were original and fabulous i could not stop reading i had to find out what happend next was even holding my breathe was that great highly recommend
Wow I really loved this book if you get captivated by the ethereal romance and ancient rivalries of Fallen, then Natalie Zeniek’s story is your next obsession. It’s time to trade the shadows of Sword & Cross for a world where the stakes are even higher. When Natalie is thrust into a 400-year-old celestial war, her greatest ally isn't just a protector—he’s an Angel Hunter fighting his own lethal instincts to keep her alive. Natalie’s 18th birthday isn't bringing gifts; it’s bringing a hidden reality where malevolent forces are hunting her down. This isn't your standard mythology. The saga dives deeper into a lore that makes traditional legends pale in comparison. Angels risking their very existence" trope dialed up to eleven. In a world where angels and demons walk among us, the truth is more dangerous than the war itself."If you crave that perfect blend of supernatural mystery, gothic atmosphere, and a romance that defies the laws of nature, Natalie Zeniek is waiting for you. This isn't just a story; it's the beginning of a saga that will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the divine.trust me you definitely won’t be disappointed in reading this outstanding story line I know I was hooked in reading this fabulous book I can not wait to buy the signed book and I’m looking forward to reading more of Dans books ~Thank you, Beth, and the rest of the Wings and Words Arc Community for the free Arc of this book. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.~
I really enjoyed this take on Angels and demons and the war between the above and the underworld with lots of other beings involved. I really enjoying this journey and Dan’s writing style, I felt gripped the whole way through and there was always something that had you asking questions along the way. It was evenly paced throughout the book for me and I liked that each chapter had a light and a dark section. Don’t get me wrong, I am still left with a lot of questions but hay, that’s what you want from a first in a series isn’t it?!
My only criticism is I did feel like the characters were very mature for their ages being only 18 and I definitely wouldn’t have acted like that at 18 but I also wasn’t speaking to the dead and being attacked by demons left right and centre.
A few quotes I really liked ‘Because this time, the blood would not stay buried’ ‘“It was never a choice” he said, “choices imply freedom” His gazed hardened “This is her fate” ‘Strength isn’t about avoiding pain. It’s about carrying it. You will face darkness, yes, but you will also see light again.”
Thank you to Dan Vecchi and the amazing community at wings and words for the opportunity to read this rerelease! It did not disappoint.
I want to start this off by saying, I absolutely adore this author. This book just needs the right and unfortunately it's not me. As always, just because this isn't a review for me doesn't mean you won't love this book. Overall, I gave this a 3 star. I loved the characters in this book and the plot was well planned. However it was a slow read for me.I would say it read slow for me because there wasn't enough suspense or anticipation of what might happen next. It wasn't keeping my attention the way I like books to. Don't get me wrong, there are some intense scenes! The writing style isn't bad. And the ending was pretty good.
Beyond Heaven and Hell is a thrilling supernatural debut that pulls readers straight into a hidden war between angels and demons. Dan Vecchi crafts a world brimming with tension and celestial intrigue, where eighteen-year-old Natalie discovers she’s far more than ordinary. The story wastes no time diving into action, with each chapter revealing more of the ancient conflict she’s suddenly entangled in.
The author’s take on angelic and demonic lore feels fresh and immersive, with vivid descriptions that make every confrontation pulse with energy. The emotional depth stands out, especially in the forbidden connection between Natalie and the angel hunter who risks everything to protect her. Their bond gives the story weight and humanity amid the chaos of battle and divine power.
Natalie is turning 18 & her life is about to get a lot more complicated. Angels & demons are real, & she’s the only person who can see them… there’s a war raging between the ethereal beings; a war that Natalie, & her friends & family, are suddenly thrust into.
Bringing in Dan’s take on the lore of heaven & hell, angels & demons was such an interesting take. The characters are likeable & relatable, & their character arcs develop in some unexpected ways which holds the readers interest.
This book felt fast paced & jumped straight into the storyline; it was straight into the action, instantly bringing that air of mystery & intensity. It gave a sense of urgency which played extremely well into the storyline but didn’t feel rushed at all which I think is the sign of a great writer.
The forbidden love has really well written emotional depth, not just surface level attraction & the world building draws you in, bringing the world to the reader & immersing them within it.
That cliffhanger ending definitely left me wanting more. I can’t wait to see how things play out in the next book…
This book follows Natalie on a journey to find out what she is. On her 18th birthday everything changes for her. She loses so many people and doesnt understand what is happening or why. She falls for the angel hunter Carsten and all hell breaks lose at their devotion to one another. I loved the characters, I loved the plot. I wish their was more action but all in all it was a good read. I hope their is a book that goes more into Carstens story.
Beyond Heaven and Hell has an interesting premise, bringing together angels, demons, and a hidden war happening alongside the human world. The idea of Natalie discovering that her life is tied to something much bigger than she ever imagined was a compelling starting point, and the concept of an angel hunter torn between his own nature and protecting her added an intriguing dynamic to the story.
There’s a lot of imagination behind this world, and readers who enjoy supernatural conflicts between angels and demons will likely find plenty to enjoy here. The larger mythology and the centuries-long war create a sense of scale that hints at a bigger saga still to unfold.
For me personally, though, this one just didn’t fully click. While I could appreciate the ideas and the effort that went into building the story, I found it a little harder to connect with overall. It ultimately ended up being one of those books that I can see others loving, even though it wasn’t quite the right fit for my reading taste.
That said, if you enjoy stories centered around angelic lore, supernatural battles, and a young protagonist discovering a hidden world, this might be worth checking out.
Beyond Heaven and Hell drops you straight into a world where angels and demons walk among us—and poor Natalie has no idea she’s about to become the center of it all. As her eighteenth birthday approaches, reality cracks wide open, and the ordinary turns absolutely celestial. This story is a fast-moving pace YA fantasy, with hidden-world vibes that give me Fallen meets Supernatural feels and I really had a good time reading it.
If you love an Angel & Demon setting then this book is for you. The author gives some nice twists to the age old rivalry and includes plenty of action scenes.
There was suspense waiting to see what was going to happen to the characters and a few ‘oh no!’ moments. I was hooked from the prologue and kept intrigued through out. Overall a quick pace and I appreciate each scene is purposeful and leading you through the book.
The ending, chef’s kiss. Great debut, nice job, Dan!
The mix of action, mystery, and supernatural twists kept me reading the whole way through. Natalie is such a strong and relatable main character — I loved seeing her grow and face her destiny. Every chapter had me wanting to read “just one more.” The ending left me eager for the next book. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves fast-paced fantasy. It was a good read.
This book.... had me engrossed in the first few pages. Definitely started a little slower, building up the story, the anticipation, where was it going, what's going to happen and then BAM demons and angels everywhere!
I really feel for Natalie, no idea what's happening and why she's different and she loses so much. Really hope her happy ending comes in the next book.
Would really recommend giving this a read.
Thanks as always to Wings and Words for letting me have ARC.
Beyond Heaven and Hell is an interesting start to a supernatural series. I liked the mix of angels, demons, and hidden battles. Natalie is a solid main character, and the relationship between her and the angel hunter adds some nice emotional depth. The pacing felt a little slow in places, but the story picks up and ends on a strong note.
I was a little confused in the beginning, but then once the story started to develop I loved the fight between Good and evil in the form of light a dark angels. Natalie is awakening of who she is and where she came from a slowly revealed to her and of how where and what happened to her father and how his sacrifice kept her hidden. Story is amazing. and once it start going, there are loads of adventure. There is conflict, test of faith and sadness in the book, but the story is told brilliantly and I would recommend reading this book.
This story was a refreshing and unexpected twist on the angels-and-demons genre. While there is no spice, the slow-burn romance is beautifully crafted and deeply compelling. Natalie, the FMC, is human, yet her powers remain a mystery not only to herself, but to both demons and angels alike. Opposite her is Carsten, a demon whose sole purpose has always been to hunt angels and kill humans… until Natalie upends everything he believes he is.
Carsten cannot explain the irrational pull he feels toward her, nor the instinctive need to protect her, even when it means standing against his own kind. Watching Natalie’s quiet influence unravel and reshape him was one of the most satisfying elements of the story. Despite the absence of spice, I found myself fully invested, not only in the romance, but in the emotional tension and the question of how their love story could possibly survive in a world divided by heaven and hell.
The book concludes on a soft cliffhanger, leaving Natalie’s true purpose and potential tantalizingly unresolved. That lingering mystery only heightens the anticipation for book two, Exodus, which I have no doubt is going to be epic. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next and how it ultimately unfolds.
Some of my favorite lines from the book perfectly capture the emotional core of the romance: “Close to you, I feel like I can’t control my body.” “Meeting you has left me uncertain of my identity.” “I am being punished, because I cannot stay away from you.”
If you love stories that explore angels and demons, moral conflict, and the slow, aching pull of forbidden connection set against an epic battle between heaven and hell, this book is absolutely worth your time.
The story has great potential, and the core concept is genuinely brilliant. The author clearly has an imaginative idea at the heart of this book. However, as a reader who values consistency and a bit of descriptive background, I found myself struggling at times.
In the first few chapters, there were noticeable inconsistencies that made me pause and reread sections to check whether I had misunderstood something. Fortunately, these issues became less frequent as the story progressed. Still, the author often jumped straight into character conversations without any prior context, leaving me feeling like a part of the narrative was missing—almost as if a scene explaining the setup for the dialogue had been cut out.
There were also several name and place changes throughout the book—Doroth becoming Dorothy, Amber turning into Ember, for example—that were likely simple typos but should have been caught during proofreading. Additionally, the timeline became somewhat muddled around pages 249–252, which disrupted the flow and was quite frustrating.
Overall, while the story itself is strong and full of promise, the execution would benefit from tighter editing, clearer continuity, and more attention to detail. With a bit more polish, this could easily become an excellent read.
A Supernatural Page-Turner Beyond Heaven and Hell is a fantasy book that takes you into a secret world filled with angels, demons, and hidden truths. Dan Vecchi keeps the suspense high, blending mystery, action, and emotion together. The story describes the main character whose life is turning upside down at a specific point in life. What makes the story more interesting is that it's hard to know who to trust. Although it is fantasy, the characters and story feel real. It is the type of book that is easy to read and keeps you alert. My favourite thing about the book is that it is so close to really . "Everything happens for a reason." I can't wait for book 2.
Beyond Heaven and Hell by Dan Vecchi pulled me in from the very first chapter. The story balances tension, mystery, and emotion in a way that kept me turning the pages way past my bedtime. I loved how the characters were written—flawed, real, and easy to connect with—and the twists were actually surprising, not predictable like so many books in this genre.
The pacing was tight, the world-building was vivid, and the ending left me thinking about it long after I finished. Dan Vecchi really knows how to craft a story that feels fresh and fully immersive. This one definitely stands out as one of my favorites from him. Highly recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed this angel-versus-demon fantasy. Natalie's journey from ordinary teen to participant in a celestial war was an interesting and engaging read. The pacing hooked me early with quick chapters and enough mystery to keep me turning pages. Carsten's tragic backstory added real depth, and the final section saw some good action. That ending has me keen to see the sequel!
(Small notes:) I usually avoid reading on devices as I find it harder to imagine with them, for this reason it takes me longer to read on them.
As this is a self published ARC review, I will not be rating it officially as I would be rating lower than 3 stars. DNF at chapter 11. Would currently rate this at: 2 stars. ⭐⭐ With potential to be 4/5 stars.
THOUGHTS:
I have been eager to get my hands on this book since December and when I was gonna buy it on pay day in January, it was taken off sale by the author for some revision work. So when he did ARC requests for it's new release I jumped at the opportunity. However, I really struggled to like Nats chapters/ sections... They felt.... Too forced, and very mundane... And it felt to me like two different people writing the story. With the demons perspective way more interesting and better written. I think this book would do better with it's main focus as them and make Nat a minor character. Nat has too much nothing happening, we don't need to see her washing her hair, and eating breakfast.
The concept and direction the story has is really good, I just feel it's too stiff and formal (may be the writing style??) for me to really engage fully and while Carsten, Victor and Katherine all hold really good scenes and potential I can't fully dive into the story because I just skim read Natalie's chapters/sections because they hold no interest. For this reason I am DNF at chapter 11.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this story. I hope this review helps the author, and I'm sorry I couldn't finish the story. With more work this story and it's direction has potential to be 4-5 stars.
WHAT WORKS:
+ The prologue was interesting and sets up a little bit of lore behind what's to come.
+ Really like the demons perspective, it flows more naturally than the human interaction and held my attention more. It was well written and easier to visualise.
+ Realllly liking Carsten as a character and I think the connection with him and Nat will be interesting to see progress.
WHAT DOESN'T:
-overly formal writing, it works with the angels and demons but it is making Natalie and her friends very robotic. Lines like "I am not going to do that." Could be made into: "I'm not going to do that.' for smoother dialogue. (This could be a style thing. But as a reader it didn't work for me.) And it made the chapters stiff and awkward, which probably leads to their interactions feeling unnatural and forced as mentioned next.
- the characters interraction (Nat and her friends) feel forced and unnatural, I can't imagine any 18year olds talking and interacting like this.
- the perspectives hop too jarringly and too quickly between the characters... You're getting like 5 lines inside one head then you're inside someone else's with no ease into it. Sometimes it's just for a sentence before going back to the original mind... Making me back read to understand what just happened.
-/+ it reads like the author is writing it as a cinematic... (I dunno if this will make sense...) But it's like he's visualising it as a movie and writing it as such which would explain the jarring head and scene hopping.
+/- (personal guess / could be wrong:) the story feels like it is co-written with AI, I personally don't mind work written with AI help (NOT fully AI prompted work) but it becomes obvious with certain uses of metaphors that I see used in many ai written content, thus taking away the authors own unique voice. Try change the metaphors with something similar / cut them completely in exchange for prose and/or detail. Things like: "He didn't speak, didn't have to." Are very common in ai use and could be changed to: "his silence was the only response needed, he let it hang in the air." "She didn't look at him, didn't acknowledge him." Is reinforcing the same thing. Drop one of them and have a descriptive instead. "She didn't look at him, her eyes shot past him towards the picture on the wall behind him."
With more work on these points, readers who enjoyed: Susan Ee- Angelfall trilogy along with people who enjoy Supernatural series, Angel series would enjoy this books plot.
----
One example of head hopping, the perspective is Carsten 3rd person perspective, Natalie, should be observed from him being stressed, we shouldn't be entering her emotions for a moment to hop back to Carsten. (If this makes sense??) :
Still, he watched, studying her. Trying to understand the impossible pull he felt. The band had just finished a song when two police officers entered. The officer’s voice cut through the music: “Seven dead in the southern forest. Locals describe something with massive teeth and claws. We don’t yet know what it is, but it isn’t safe to travel alone.” The pub fell into uneasy silence, the guitar’s last chord hanging in the air. Despite the grim news, most patrons remained. 👉Natalie, however, could think of nothing but her brother, who wasn’t home. Unease coiled in her chest, her worry sharpening the tension that already hung in the air. The moment he heard the news, Carsten left the pub, abandoning his half-finished beer. He didn’t notice Katherine watching from the shadows as he slipped away. “So, he’s shown himself to humans
